November Update #3 (TROUBLE IN THE DUNGEON YCH #2 IS CLOSED)
Posted 5 days agoWow! Its now Thursday evening and Im finally ready to post this weeks YCH up! Its been a heck of a week because of the changing of seasons making things super cold! I'm a hibernating tiger now! Who else is goin a bit slow with the change of weather in this hemisphere?
Also, a bit of good news on my end, I've finally paid off some debts I had to the IRS because of income tax silliness last year. Not having to deal with that will be a huge burden lifted off of me, I've had to put off so many things so that I could have the money to pay this nonsense up -w- This next year shouldn't be nearly as much of an issue, so glad about that!

Posted a week agoSooo I ended up getting what Im pretty sure was a sinus infection, right after getting a covid and flu shot. Sooooo...That's put me back quite a bit. With how busy December is going to be with MFF and other things, getting sick was not supposed to be in the cards. But I guess unless you become a hermit for months at a time you can't avoid someone else getting you sick.
It's been like...two weeks of feeling like crud, but Im here now I guess! I'm gonna have to really push myself to get through the things I need to do between now and December 4th.

Quick Update!
Posted 3 weeks agoLast week was probably one of the busiest weeks I've had for work in months! That's definitely a great thing in my book! Buuut this does mean that Im behind at the moment, but I do have the piece of mind from all the work to be able to not force myself to do a YCH this week!
So that means no YCH this week! Its just gonna be commissions and YCH slots worked on!

OCTOBER UPDATE #5 (FREE FOR ALL YCH IS CLOSED)
Posted 4 weeks agoSo, thankfully for this week, I have been able to get past some very irritating family drama, as well as some friend drama. I'm free from that nonsense, though I am quite emotionally dead after all of that. I strongly desire to just slip back into work mode instead of dealing with any more of that. Though, it being the holiday season means that everybody and their mother wants my household around. >w>
Outside of all of that, I'm nearly finished dealing with paying off the IRS for some taxes that were owed, due to some errors that happened last year with the people who help me with my tax prep. Unless something absolutely batshit happens to the USA next year, I'll be in a HUGELY better spot financially, and can actually start planning ahead for leaving the state I'm in. Maybe move to the west coast, where I can suffer financially without worrying that a red state politician will want people like myself in a prison camp, dead, or both.

Posted a month agoLast week was even worse than the one before it, being sick and busy was nice and capped off by a whole lot of parental drama that I'm hoping gets to be dropped sooner rather than later. It's not much that I'm wanting to talk about, and thankfully isn't anything that'd cause me direct grief as I live VERY far away from any of my family.

October Update #2 (MIDNIGHT PUMPKIN RIDE YCH IS OPEN)
Posted a month agoOuph, its been quite the few weeks for me. Between my car being out of commission due to a VERY broken exhaust pipe, getting sick, and just being all out of sorts with my current sleeping schedule, I've been pretty out of it. I'm still doing everything I can, but gosh do I wish I could take a proper break. That won't be possible until a few weeks after MFF though, when I won't be having to be worried about finances and being busy with a million different things. I can't wait for then, when its nice and cold and I can enjoy not being boiled alive in my office when working -w-

Also, I'll be posting YCHs mostly as single image posts from now on, as I've realized that my upload schedule basically is ONE post a week, and that probably leaves things a bit barren. So each individual YCH will be posted up each weekday! (if I can manage it that week)

Posted 2 months agoWowsers last week was nuts. Since things have been so crazy the last 7 days, I don't really have a whole lot of energy today to whip up a full YCH! We'll be doing a Free For All YCH a week earlier, so I don't have to feel rushed today.
As for other news, I'm finally getting really close to having my office fixed up. The roof on my house has been dealt with, and the ceiling is mostly patched up to keep any gunk from entering from the attic. Now all that remains is getting all the dust cleaned out slowly but surely, and then it'll be clear for me to be back in my proper space instead of dealing with a very uncomfortable spot at a dining table >w>

Posted 2 months agoI will not tolerate any sort of fascist or right wing apologia on my posts.
I don't post about it often on here as I don't aim to put myself out there, but I need all of you who watch this account to understand that I am a leftist. I don't have patience for right wing or centrist nonsense, and you won't get to have a platform on this account. I am more than fine with deleting comments and blocking people if I see things swerve towards any sort of centrist or right wing ideology. You won't get a platform on any of my posts, I am uninterested with dealing with bad faith actors.
I will always believe in the rights of marginalized people and I have nothing but hate for those who'd take away those rights.
(This post isn't made to target any specific actions that have happened, but I figured that this needed said what with current events bringing out a lot of neo-nazi sympathies from even more "centrist" people.)
September Update (I'm not doin great)
Posted 2 months agoI've tried to take a break from YCH work to do commissions but things have been slowly piling up in my life. It's gotten to the point where I'm having issues just doing anything during the day. I've spent the last week just blankly staring at my PC and occasionally driving wherever I'm needed.
Otherwise, it's just been blankness for what feels like forever. There's so much that needs done but trying to tackle it has started to feel insurmountable. I can't even do what seems to be every last persons response to this: Taking a break.
I literally depend on doing art to survive, but there's so much other stuff on my plate that if I took a break, I'd starve. And to top it off, I've already spent weeks just sitting here feeling like a zombie. How the heck am I supposed to take a break?
I want off of everything going on in my life right now.
Otherwise, it's just been blankness for what feels like forever. There's so much that needs done but trying to tackle it has started to feel insurmountable. I can't even do what seems to be every last persons response to this: Taking a break.

Posted 3 months agoThis week I've begun physical therapy to deal with my shoulder issues and shrimp posture! First day down, 7 more days over the next two months to go! I have a feeling it'll mostly just be lots of stretching exercises and such, but it'll probably help in the long run!

Posted a year agoI quite like this addition to the site! While a lot of people say that this was needed for a long time, I can say for certain that I've not ever seen it crop up on other sites, so unless I'm really wrong, it's the first I've seen it pop up!
Moderation tools like that should really help things out, even if there's not much to be done about minors lying about their age on their accounts. On the flip side, seeing that Twitter announced those changes to how blocking someone works, which I think is complete nonsense to do. Having the ability to curate your online space goes a long way to keeping things from going absolutely crazy.
Also, I totally forgot to name the last journal, so apologies to those who may have wanted to get in on this weeks YCH but didn't see the notice! There's still two slots left, so feel free to nab them up if you'd like!

Posted a year agoI've watched how his condition worsened over time as he posted over on Blusky, and I can say that it was pretty heartbreaking seeing how things progressed. I hope he's in a better place now.
Now that he's gone, it does feel like the site lost a huge presence in it. Man went into serious debt to keep this place as a sanctuary for our community, and it's honestly a bit scary to think about the future now. For me, this has been my online home base for nearly 20 years. I've managed to become self employed pretty much entirely through this site, and have grown as an artist since creating my first (now defunct and buried) account here in like...2008?
It's definitely going to be interesting seeing how things go after this. This place is definitely his and the staffs legacy, and I for one am hoping that it continues on for many many years to come. That said, I'm probably going to start throwing money at the site to at least do my part. All that said...

But first my thoughts on things:
I don't really do a lot of commission work as part of my day to day, and looking at a queue which I HAVE to complete before I can take more work just kinda feels daunting. I really enjoy just getting commissions here and there and being able to jam on them at my leisure. It took me nearly 6 months to finish the last commission queue, so obviously it isnt like my main source of income. I'm not worried about getting commissions. YCHs are my bread and butter and I enjoy that constant in my life, but commissions are more of a fun thing to do so folks can get the really kinky stuff done up!

Posted 2 years agoI've felt very lost this year when it comes to my journey as an artist, especially as I navigate being relatively unknown on social media. Posting and doing business online can often be a thankless job especially as a freelance artist, and this year has been no exception to that. As 2024 looms on the horizon, I've had to give myself pause to think about exactly what I want to do going forward.
While one of my main goals is to get my art seen by as many people as possible, I've realized that just chasing that dream by trying to do what other artists and posters say isn't enough for both me or my audience. I can't just follow trends or some jaded technique to make my work more popular. Success online is often due to sheer luck and the invisible hand of algorithms.
I now think that sort of thing is crap. I want to know my audience better. I want to hone in on what I'm good at. I want to make stuff that is actually BETTER.
I've no experience with marketing or any of that sort of stuff but regardless, I've made a questionnaire for you all so that I can learn a few things about the people I interact with online and how my art factors into that.
It's not the most amazing poll, but I ask that you take some time to fill it out! I'm interested to see what you all have to say!
