IMPORTANT UPDATE -- NOVEMBER 22nd
General | Posted 12 years agoThis is an important message for anybody interested in my work, and the work of the talented
nimroderick
In a few short weeks, the two of us will be collaborating on a huge livestream blow-out where we will be taking commissions and working on them over the night at the same time, together! There will be two livestream channels, one for each of us.
We are trying to build up some excitement for the event now, so if you're interested in getting a live commission, or just interested to see the two of us work, you should definitely come visit us on NOVEMBER 22, 2013!
I'll be posting example works of our paintings soon. A half-finished sketch can be seen in my scraps.
Tell your friends! And have a wonderful weekend!

New Ideas for Future Commissions?
General | Posted 12 years agoHello all! I hope you've collectively been having a wonderful week~
Due to recent expenditures, I have been watching the balance in my account slowly blowing away, much like the leaves on the trees in this fall weather. I am in no danger, whatsoever, financially, or otherwise, but it got me thinking that I should get back on top of commissions soon, and seeing as my commission cue is currently empty, I figured now would be as good a time as any to ask the general public about any alternative methods for commissions.
I know some of my friends here do YCH paintings, and auction slots, where they paint a generic scene and leave space for a body, or set of bodies, set a buy-in price for the character slot, and allow guests to comment the price they are willing to pay for the slot. Maybe if there is some general interest for this type of commission, I could give it a try? I don't know what it would be yet, mature work is difficult to complete with the presence of a roommate.
I am also interested in doing some bulk work of simple, sketch-paint-y commissions. I don't quite know how they would work, but I imagine that they would be like any of my other paintings, except more rough and less detailed, and therefore cheaper. I know people have jobs, and need to work for their money, so I think it would be nice to open up to do some commissions at a much more easy-to-pay price of like 25 dollars. Again, if there seems to be any interest in this, just throw me a Personal Note and I'd love to discuss what the paintings would be like, and what price range seems acceptable for whatever quality. I need to do a lot more painting, so quick, loose works for cheap seem really appealing to me right now, as well as expensive 80 dollar paintings.
Third item on today's list: I have been talking a bunch with my good friend
nimroderick, and we are becoming interested in creating a series of collaboration works together. I'm not sure if there are any plans for this yet, but it would be interesting if we could accept commissions to be done by the both of us together, generally with him sketching out the piece and me painting over it. I have an example of this mixed style around here somewhere, so I'll post it soon. I think it might be cool if people wanted some unique work created by both Roderick and I together.
Finally, I know there are plenty of other ways to handle commissioning, and I'd love to hear your ideas on variations of how I could sell my art, and further, I'd love to just get some buyers interested in anything that's listed here OR anything NOT listed here to come send me a note and try and set up a commission cue! No pressure :3 it's just nice to stay busy.
I hope you all continue to have a wonderful week, and please, share with me some ideas in the comments about how I can go about selling my art in other ways! Cheaper commissions, auction pieces, selling originals, YCH~ I'm new to all of it, so share share share!

General | Posted 12 years agoHello all!
Just a quick note to thank all the new watchers that have poured in over the last week or two, as well as to mention that I'm finally up and running here in my dorm, and therefore ready to start accepting commissions again!
My current commission cue is EMPTY! Let's fix that :D

You get a thank you, and YOU get a thank you...
General | Posted 12 years agoI went on vacation and got home a few days back. Accidentally let my new watchers number soar over 150, and I just couldn't keep up with responding to that many people at oe time, seeing as school is coming up in a few days and I've got stuff to do before then.
SO! I'm resorting to giving a single, generic thank you to EVERYONE who has started watching me recently. Your support is much appreciated and I value your comments and your kindness.
Thank you all very much :3

Back from vacation, on to ART!
General | Posted 12 years agoHello, all!
I am very pleased to announce that I am back from my vacation up in the beautiful province of British Columbia, Canada! I spent a week on Victoria Isle enjoying the sights and sounds from all the local and not-so-local areas up there. Did some zip-lining, saw one of the worlds best and most beautiful gardens, and drank plenty of beer, because in Canada, 19 is legal! :D WHAT NEWS! I'm still not big on alcohol though, haha.
Now that I am home again, I plan on spending this week doing a LOT (hopefully) ((fingers crossed)) of painting for myself. I don't think I'm going to be accepting any big commissions this week, as I have a number of things promised to people and some paintings I really want to get done, myself, including a MASSIVE reference for my tiger in like... 20 outfits I thought he'd look good in, so that's gonna take a while.
To Werethrope! If you're reading this, I am home now, so let's get this show on the road!
To M.McAllister! I'm sorry I didn't get to your painting before I left so I'm gonna take today to paint it special~
To Rai Inuzuma! *beeps your nose*
I'm very excited for all I have planned for the week, and hopefully I get it done and don't succumb to being a lazy cat thing.
ADDITIONAL NEWS!
I'm going to be back at school starting next Monday, which is coming up pretty fast. The first week or two of school is usually boring as ever and not a lot gets done other than syllabus papers and class schedules, so I'll be fine then, but once school picks up, I'll have to downsize the number of commissions I take on. I'll still be drawing them, but I'll have to find time to work on them. I'm not very partial to having a new roommate I haven't gotten to know peering over my shoulder to see that I'm painting a human-lion hybrid creature's superhuman six pack and package~
SO, if you'll forgive the slowness that might come about from me trying to find time to paint in the room alone, I'd still be happy to do more commission work through the rest of the year.
I look forward to relaxing back home with my tablet and cranking out some new art for you all to enjoy! Have a wonderful week, all of you~

Not home
General | Posted 12 years agoI forgot to mention!!! I'm in CANADA for the next week or so!! I'll be back in a while, so no art until then~
Thanks for the new 100 watchers!
General | Posted 12 years agoIn true Tru fashion, I allowed my watchers list to break above 100 again which makes me lazy and then I fail to respond to everyone with a personal message, so it looks like I'm back to thanking everyone in a journal.
For everyone who's come to watch me in more or less the last week, THANK YOU for your support! I have read through all your names and I'm grateful to every one of you for clicking that little button on my page. It means a lot to me :3

Adventures in Acrilics
General | Posted 12 years agoIt's official. I do truly suck at painting in real life~
My mother came home about a month ago with some beginners set of brushes and small tubes of acrilic paints, and I've been meaning to break into them and start learning what it's like to be a real artist. Unfortunately, I've been too timid to pick up a brush and give it a try, knowing that I was going to have expectations of grandeur thanks to my digital experience and then get shot down by reality when I try putting paint on canvas. Today was the day! I had done nothing with my life, filled myself with donut holes and milk, and was ready to explore the unknown world hidden beneath my blank white canvas.
It stunk *derp*
I had hopes of returning each day, knowing I'd stink at the beginning and would improve each day over the rest of my summer, but I find myself wearily unmotivated to give it another go... I know I will anyway X3 I have wanted to know how to paint for just about my whole life, but the level of difference between my digital painting and my traditional understanding is astounding!
I think I managed to get about 2/3 of the way through blending blue to yellow, but I think I missed green, and the paint dried out before I got the last of the yellow on, so there's a chunk of brick color at the end.
I HAVE GOALS THOUGH!!
By the end of this week, I want to make a tree... a very, basic, non exciting uncolorful straight-out-of-the-tube color green tree.

Birthday Thoughts?
General | Posted 12 years agoAs some of you may know from my previous journals, I'm looking to celebrate my birthday this week! :D However, I have no plans whatsoever and not a lot to do... I plan on drawing some gift art from me to myself, and that's about all >w<
Anybody got any ideas?

Breaking down barriers
General | Posted 12 years agoI am so ridiculously pleased with things right now --
What started off as a absent minded test to experiment with a new way of painting ended up being one of my greatest mental achievements in my artistic career :D *overselling himself at this point*
For years I have admired Blotch and other artists that could achieve such a fine level of detail, or lack there of, and fill each painting with a full range of colors and textures to express their work, and now, with this painting I feel as though I am finally on my way to achieving that level of detail and success! I am slowly understanding colors, and with practice I have improved my texturing, and now I feel confident that it's within my reach to become like the artists I admire so much.
I have to give an abundant amount of credit to all the other artists who have helped and inspired me thus-far. I've learned a LOT in one year, and I am very much excited to look back and see how much I improve over this next year.
I don't have much to show for this achievement now, but in the future I hope that I can expand myself in later works and really push myself to the next level of painting.
In other news, it's my birthday next week and I'm turning 19!
Cheers~

It's OVER NINE-THOU----Two thousand!!
General | Posted 12 years agoHow can these things happen so fast!? I posted a commemorative thank you picture celebrating my achievement of 1500 watchers just TWO months ago! And suddenly, I am being informed that I have over 2000 now?? That's incredible!!
Thank you all so much for your support! I never would have been able to come this far without you guys :3 ...no...but really, without you those numbers wouldn't do diddly-squat~
BUT ALSO your encouragement and ideas! Since I moved here to FurAffinity I have met so many wonderful and kind people that have supported me and critiqued me, thrown me ideas and money, thoughts and comments and I have become a better artist because of it.
I took a moment to run through my whole gallery again, and I really must say, a LOT has changed since I got here~ I remember drawing "It's Not That Funny" during March of 2011. It took me ALL of my spring break, I worked on it a few hours each day for a whole five days to come up with what I thought was the greatest masterpiece in the whole world!! (Hence why I keep it as my featured image -- It's what started my climb to success!) But as I move through time, represented in my gallery, I can see my own progression. I see my style change, and my skill, and in just one year I have achieved so much more than I could ever have hoped to~
In the end, I owe it to all of you for keeping me motivated and driven to achieve more with my art. Thank you all for clicking that one little button on my page and +watching me X3 It means more than you think

Line art -- No color: $20 / With color: $30, $35 for basic cell shading -- +$10 dollars for each additional character
Icons -- Basic bust of the character: $25-35
Reference sheets -- $40 dollars for basic front and back of character, with added description of character provided by commissioner -- +$5 for each additional add on, head, groin, eye close-up or whatever / +$10 for additional view of character
-- I also do reference sheets as fully textured and shaded master works, though I only have one showing in my gallery.
These start at $60 for the standard front and back view, +20 for additional views, still +5 for added closeups.
Master work -- Fully shaded and textured digital painting: $50 (includes a basic color/texture background / $75 for added environment -- +20 dollars for each additional character
My definitions can be rather flexible, so just send me a note explaining what you are thinking of and I'll help categorize it, such as a crowd scene not counting as +1-bdjillion dollars if they are part of an environment.
If you want examples of any of the listings, just let me know or parooze my gallery, I should have a few examples of each to share.
Thank you, and I hope to hear from you soon!
More Thanks and Appreciation! (new watchers please read)
General | Posted 13 years agoJust another journal to make up for my laziness and my tardiness at responding to all the new friends that have watched my page over the last few weeks~ To all that have recently watched me and are supportive of my work, thank you very much! I appreciate your kind words and your enthusiasm does a lot to encourage me further. It means a lot to me that in less than one year I could have gained the respect and attention of so many kind and wonderful people!
Thank you

In addition, keep your eyes out for my updated commission pricing. I am trying to get that all sorted out right now so I might have a concrete pricing for my work, rather than just tossing around numbers when they feel appropriate and agreeable.

New Account formed on Weasly!
General | Posted 13 years agoHey all!
I have seen a number of journals floating around mentioning a new website called Weasyl, and so I decided I might as well check it out. It seems to have a nice structure and some useful features, so just for kicks, I created an alternate account there under the same name (TruNorth) and resubmitted a large portion of my art.
I AM NOT IN ANY WAY leaving FurAffinity!!! This place is my home :3
But I thought it would be fun to try this other site as well~ so anybody who has an account already, I would appreciate some help in bulking up my 'followers' list~ Or for anybody else, maybe just check the site out! It's pretty nice :3

In other news! I will need to update my commission information very soon. The current price listings and examples are simply out of date, and have been leading to a minor deal of confusion with some customers. Therefore I will be reconstructing my commission sheet and updating all the pricing and examples to be more accurate!
Does anybody know how to do that thing...that thing here where people can make words into hyperlinks, so I don't have to post this crazy long annoying url and instead can just say example: HERE and make that a link to my painting~?
