Till we meet again
Posted 11 years agoAs some (not many, I'm sure XD) may have noticed, I've not been around much. To be honest, often weeks, sometimes months, go by without me checking FA once. I'm just not that interested anymore.
I mean, I'm grateful for the folks I've met here, and there were some really good times, but...well, that was a long time ago. The last few *years* I've felt a growing distance between myself and those I once felt so close to - shoot, most have simply disappeared. Secondly, I've felt absolutely no urge to continue drawing - it was amusing for a while, but I was not really improving, and didn't care enough to put in the work required to do so. Besides, what's an old fart doing, spending all day drawing little doodly-doos that never really turn out? I didn't and still do not see any future for myself in it. Call it a failed experiment.
That said, I have warm memories of FA, and I'll always have them...but it's time to move on. There are likely only one or two people who might read this, and to those people I want to give my thanks and appreciation *hug* :3
I wish you all the best in your endeavors. I'll see you around. Bye! =^^=

Coffee Mug Philosophy
Posted 11 years agoAs I was sitting around at work, I happened to look up and spot a little white coffee cup, sitting on the shelf in front of me. Emblazoned across the side of the mug, in bright, rainbow - coloured script, was the phrase, "Life isn't about finding yourself - Life is about CREATING yourself. "
At first, I simply thought, "Yay, another banal affirmation! Maybe the other side assures you that 'There is nothing to it but to do it!'" But then I thought about it, and dang it-
It's true. ...and what better place to ponder self-determination than this bastion of creativity, where so many seem to be living examples of this saying.
I mean, how many of us hold off on moving forward, waiting for that one thing we are meant to do? Always searching, but never finding, that purpose, that perfect fit, that thing that we can do better than anyone, that hopefully will prove that we have a reason to exist. The problem is, it's near - impossible to find it simply by waiting for it to eventually come to you. You have to go out and get it.
...and that means trying tons and tons of things that are uncomfortable, soul-sucking, tedious, frightening, and/or seemingly pointless. Things that are the direct opposite of what we *think* we'd like to do. It's only through these experiences that we find out what our true abilities are, where are passions lie.
...and we find out exactly what we DON'T want to do. Which, sometimes, turns out to be the very thing that we thought we were destined to do. Life is surprising like that.
So, fellow furs, are you doing that thing that you feel you were born to do? Do you do it well? Are you HAPPY?
If so, congrats! You lucky soul, you!
If not, it's time to get out there and mix it up, don't you think?

Posted 13 years agoSome local gang sent the local police a letter saying that tonight would be a "night of retaliation", so they told everyone to stay at home, or risk getting shot. Sooooooooo...all the parties were cancelled, most of the haunted houses closed early, and the trick-or-treaters stayed home.
Yay for you, you overgrown children - you killed the best night of the year with your stupidity.

Posted 13 years agoUgh...this area is so weird - it was cold and foggy all summer, but now it's 90 degrees with no wind =@.@=
It doesn' t help that I'm stuck at work, so there's no fan, no A/C, no operable windows, and I have to sit here and sweat in two cotton shirts, heavy khakis and work boots =x.x=

Mid-morning today I was sitting at work, looking at the nearby hills...the slight breeze...the absolutely clear, blue sky...and I had a feeling I haven't felt in literally *years*: I wanted to just bolt - to throw open the door, run outside and scamper about. Shoot, I wanted to *climb* those hills! Of course, I didn't...but still, it was a nice feeling - far better than my usual, "ugh...tired...creaky...bleh" feeling I usually have at work in the morning. XD
I'm not really going anywhere with this - I just felt great for a while, which means something to me, and simply wanted to share it with y'all. I guess I feel I've been a bit distant to everyone as of late, and I want to get back into the swing of things, y'know? :3

Posted 14 years agoHas it really been 3 months since my last journal? Wow...goes to show that being a working stiff, where every day is pretty much the same as the last, kinda leaves you with a lack of things to talk about, nya?

Seriously, the only thing I talk about with other people is work and inane facts about my cats - that's pretty much my entire world right now. I suppose that's how it is with life, though - when you're living the "adult life", the only new things you have to look forward to are little things like an upcoming holiday, or "Hey, let's go to Chili's tonight, instead of baking chicken at home! How exciting!" Considering that "retirement" no longer exists, there's not even that dim light at the end of the tunnel anymore.
So, yeah - all of you young folks out there, as much as life sucks right now, at least you get to experience new things on a regular basis. I suppose that's why old folks pine to be younger again, as ridiculous as that sounds - it's not because being young was fun, but simply because it actually had some *excitement* to it, with the possibility of something new on the horizon now and then.
I think I just realized why I stopped drawing: work. It just kinda drains the color and spark from life...well, that and now I don't have the free time to draw (I can't draw while anyone's around, 'cause i'm weird, and now I'm either at work or at home, where I'm NEVER alone). I know, I know...when I wasn't working, all I did was whine about *that* - but you know kitties...we're never satisfied.

Changes of pace
Posted 14 years agoFinally broke down and joined that gym-type place near here...it's pretty amazing - all of the machines are connected to this computer system, which tracks what you've been doing, telling you how many calories you've burned today, and suggesting exercises you need to do or machines you need to use to keep things in balance, or to achieve whatever goals you've set and entered into the system. It also has a pool, sauna, on-site massage, trainers...of course most of that will cost you extra. I kid you not, if you want 40 45-minute trainer sessions, it'll run you $1,600...1600 bucks! Yikes! But, hey, the pool is free, so I'm happy.

I had to go in today for my new-member evaluation - they weighed me, had me hold this contraption which calculated my body fat percentage, then I squeezed this metal thing which measured my grip strength, then I was supposed to do 60 seconds of push-ups then sit-ups...but I showed how my one arm doesn't go quite straight anymore (wicked trampoline accident), and that my tailbone was broken a while ago (musical chairs mishap - I kid you not XD)...so she decided to just skip those, since push-ups that aren't full extension don't count, and the floor was cement, which wouldn't work with my wonky busted tail. I felt a bit cheated, since these tests will determine my exercise program, and with these huge gaps in my stats, I'm worried that my regimen will be totally askew.
Oh yeah, I also had to use this machine to test my flexibility (the whole "touch your toes" bit) - I think I did okay with that - my back is fine, but I definitely felt the tension in my hamstrings and leg tendons, though. I was surprised that they didn't take my blood pressure - that seems like a pretty basic thing to measure, right? Oh well...
...and they took some blood - I guess they'll tell me my cholesterol and blood sugar or something...those numbers should be back in a week or so. I must admit, I'm really curious as to what my total results will be - I mean, I know that I'm pretty dinged-up and run-down right now - I've not really taken the best care of myself, like, *ever*...and I was really hard on my body in my younger days, so lots of things are more broken than they should be....but all in all, I don't think I'm a lost cause. I guess we'll see, nya?

On another note, I've seriously been pulling a quick-fade concerning all things internet...I used to be able to sit here for DAYS, checking all of my sites, chatting away...but I've simply not been feeling it at all as of late. I mean, it took a ton of self-convincing just to get myself online to type this up. I've been wondering if I'm slipping into another of my occasional quasi-depressive phases - I just don't have the energy or concern to bother with communicating with other people...it just takes *so much* energy that I don't really have, and I don't feel that I really have much to offer, anyway.
Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh...somebody smack me and tell me to quit my whinin', nya?

Posted 14 years agoIn a haphazard attempt to whip myself into shape, I started on a diet. Nothing harsh, mind you, but one that was supposedly really effective. Y'know, one of those low carb/calorie/fat things. I mean, I looooooove meat, so it's really quite the easy transition for me.
I did a lot of research, gathered together a bunch of suggested menus and requirement lists, and have been religiously living off of water, diet soda, tuna, lean steaks, chicken and veggies since, like, MARCH. I even take the stairs when available, and my job requires me to walk all day, so I figured I had the aerobic requirements well within range...

Yay! For the first time EVER, I'm finally getting my own insurance! It hasn't been easy, having no coverage and paying out of pocket all of these years. Everyone is amazed that I've never had insurance, but the simple truth is that I've never had a job that *offered* any. Go, go retail!
