MY HAIR IS GONE :O
General | Posted 12 years agoSo the deed has been done. My long hair is officially gone I'm looking a fair amount like Michael Poulsen of Volbeat now hehe. It's actually not that bad, but it's REALLY weird not having long hair for the first time in nearly 10 years
Getting my hair cut this weekend :'(
General | Posted 12 years agoAs a metalhead, there are few things scarier than going bald. But thanks to some shitty genes inherited from my mom's side of the family, my hair has gotten noticeably thin on top despite only being 21. So after a long process of thinking about it, I've decided to get my hair cut short this weekend for the first time in nearly 10 years...
Goodbye my lovely flowing locks... Parting is such sweet sorrow

R.I.P. Grandpa
General | Posted 12 years agoAfter being in the hospital for quite some time battling cancer, my grandpa passed away at 8:30 tonight. He was a great man who was one of the funniest and most generous people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. It has always been a tradition in my family to visit he and my grandma every Christmas eve so it's needless to say that Christmas is going to be very different this year...
Rest in peace Grandpa... I love you.
Until we meet again on the other side...

3 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!
General | Posted 12 years agoIt's that time of year again where a metal dragon gets all sappy. 3 years ago today, I was granted the best thing that's ever happened to me...
kodisnowpup and I have been together for 3 years today! Over that time, he's helped me change so much and help me gain the courage and confidence to accomplish things that I would have never thought possible at this stage of my life. Looking at us now, we've both moved to Toronto, have a fairly nice apartment, and we're doing just fine :). Unfortunately, I have to be at school and work most of today, but the upside is our roommates are gone all weekend so we have free reign of the place hehe.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY PUP!!! I LOVE YOU!

YAAAAAAAY Back for real now :D
General | Posted 12 years agoAfter waiting months, I finally got my internet back up and running today! :D So now that things are finally back to normal, I'll be back to checking stuff regularly again.
So anyway, so I guess the only things that happened were school has started up again for me and it's been going fairly well so far. Also Kamelot was amazing. Got VIP so we got a chance to meet them, which they were all super cool. Sean Tibbetts (their bass player) recognized me from when we saw them with Nightwish last year so that was really cool. They put on probably the best show I've seen all year. I didn't think topping Wintersun was possible, but they did it. Also during March of Mephisto, Thomas Youngblood (their guitar player) took my phone and filmed a bit from onstage. Next up is Trivium and DevilDriver next Tuesday at the Phoenix. They better bring their A game if they want to top Kamelot haha.
Again, it's good to be back... again... for real this time haha :3

Guess who's back (sort of)?
General | Posted 12 years agoIf you haven't guessed, it's me hehe. For those who didn't see my last journal a while back, I was in the midst of some very big internet issues since May, so I basically gave up FA for quite a while, with the occasional popping in and out on my phone. Actually our issues are technically still ongoing (because of the stupidity of our new provider), but I've come home to Kingston for the week and hopefully by the time I return to Toronto, things should be back up and running hopefully.
So what have I been up to for the last few months? Pretty much working non-stop and working on music stuff. My band has invested in a decent guitar recording rig and EZDrummer, so we've been finally getting to work on our demo work. We are in the midst of tracking a 7 and a half minute Egyptian influenced piece that's fucking deadly. We've also welcomed my brother into the band who is an amazing bassist and I'm really looking forward to writing for real with him. I've also been in the midst of working on two covers: a vocal cover of Sons of Winter and Stars by Wintersun, and a full cover of Beyond the Dark Sun also by Wintersun.
That brings me to the highlights of the last few months... I have a trifecta of guitar heroes - Jari Maenpaa of Wintersun, Devin Townsend, and Jeff Loomis. I've had the pleasure of meeting two of them since June. I met Jeff at a guitar clinic he had at Steve's Music and then I met Jari (and the rest of Wintersun) after their show at the Opera House earlier this month. I've also had the pleasure of meeting the incredibly talented Elize Ryd of Amaranthe and the amazing Kobra Paige, Jasio Kulakowski, and Rob Steele of Canadian up-and-comers Kobra and the Lotus; if you've never heard of them, I definitely recommend them. And the excitement doesn't end there; when I head back to Toronto, I have a meet and greet with the mighty Kamelot and my dad's band managed to score an opening slot for Anvil in October, so I'll have the chance to hang out with them as well :D
Anyway, I'm heading out to a friend's place soon so I'll be gone again for a bit, but I'll be on Skype later on. If you see me, say hi! :D
It's good to be back, and hopefully I can stay back. Now it's time to go through 3 months worth of art...

A leave of absence
General | Posted 12 years agoAs I've told many of you over Skype, the pup and I have been having some major internet issues and until we find out what our situation is, we're going to be without internet for at least a month... So needless to say I'm forced to leave FA for a while...
See ya around,

Upcoming Stuff/Coming Home
General | Posted 12 years agoMy marathon may be over for now, but that doesn't mean this draggy has slowed down at all. Working pretty much all week, then next week I've got another jam session booked with my brother and my dad, and the week after I'm heading back home to Kingston for a while. And of course, the metalness doesn't end either. Jeff Loomis clinic in June, VIP show with Kamelot in September, and just recently added to the list is the mighty WINTERSUN once again in August!
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! :D *bounces up and down*
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! :D *bounces up and down*
So ends the Concert Marathon
General | Posted 12 years agoAnd it ended with perhaps the best show of them all: the mighty GHOST. Absolutely fantastic show! Not to mention I also caught a drum stick which I'm pretty happy about :D.
If you're not familiar with Ghost, familiarize yourself: https://youtu.be/afvx9qqLYCU

HAD TO POST BEFORE BED
General | Posted 12 years agoI couldn't help but notice an ad on Facebook before I went to bed. JEFF FUCKING LOOMIS of Nevermore, my guitar idol and the guitarist that got me playing 7 string, is going to be doing a signing and guitar clinic here int Toronto on June 21st. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D *flails wildly in excitement*
Done School!/Imaginaerum
General | Posted 12 years agoSo yeah, finally finished school! I absolutely destroyed my archaeology exam this afternoon. And I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate the end of the school year but finally getting the chance to see a movie I've been waiting forever to see: Nightwish's IMAGINAERUM.
I'll admit I was skeptical to see if they could actually pull it off, but I really loved it. It was a very pretty looking movie and there are all kinds of things you'll be able to pick up on if you're a Nightwish fan. But I really think it was worth the wait. Bravo Nightwish! Fantastic work! :D

Last day of exams!
General | Posted 12 years agoAnd how it can't end soon enough! Up at 5:30 to catch the bus for 6:30. First exam is at 9 this morning, and the second is at 5 this afternoon
FUCKIN OPETH!!!
General | Posted 12 years agoWas one of, if not the best show on this concert marathon! Both Katatonia and Opeth were amazing, the venue was amazing sounding, the crowd was intense, the set was nice and long, the merch was cheap, Mikael was hilarious as usual, and best of all: I LEFT WITH 2 PICKS!!! One from the god himself: Mikael Akerfeldt, and a second from Anders Nystrom of Katatonia! :D
Opeth Tomorrow!
General | Posted 12 years agoStop number 3 on my concert marathon! Heading off to Guelph tomorrow morning to see the almighty OPETH and KATATONIA!!!
Paganfest!
General | Posted 12 years agoTomorrow night I get to unleash my inner viking with the mighty ENSIFERUM, TYR, HEIDEVOLK, TROLLFEST, and HELSOTT!

Just an awful night
General | Posted 12 years agoWell what was supposed to be a fun night culminated into one of the biggest clusterfucks I've had in recent memory that has left me angry, bitter, upset, worried, and exhausted all at once. I'm not looking for attention or anything, just needed to get it out.
VOLBEAT!
General | Posted 12 years agoWell I realize I'm a couple days late with the update but... VOLBEAT WAS SPECTACULAR!!! They are no doubt one of the best bands I've ever seen live and they have an energy like no other. I managed to hi-five Anders (their bass player) and Rob (their guitar player) and I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO close to getting a pick from Michael (their vocalist/other guitarist). He tossed one at me but I didn't quite get close enough so it fell somewhere under my feet and I spent a good 5 minutes on the ground, but no luck... Ah well... Anyway I know most (if anybody) reading this already has me on Facebook, but I uploaded all my pictures and a few videos from the show on there if you wanna check them out. If you don't have my Facebook, feel free to note me and I'll add you so you can check them out! Plus I'll be uploading more in the upcoming weeks when my concert marathon continues!
APRIL 17 - Ensiferum, Tyr, Heidevolk, Trollfest, Helsott
APRIL 26 - Opeth, Katatonia
MAY 6 - Ghost, Ides of Gemini

VOLBEAT Tomorrow!
General | Posted 12 years agoOff to see the mighty Volbeat tomorrow night at Sound Academy on the eve of the release of their new album 'Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies'! Should be an amazing show! And now that I've got a decent phone, I can finally get some good pictures and some video :3
