A day to remember... for the worst of reasons.
Posted 7 years agoOn Sunday 4th November at ScotiaCon 2018, A thief broke into two rooms of the hotel and stole two items. Despite these items having no resale value, they had sentimental value and having them taken away was like a personal attack.
One item being a fursuit tail belonging to a good friend of mine, the other was... My fursuit head. Holden the Australian Shepherd, an extremely rare First generation Made by Mercury fursuit that I have owned and cared for for nearly 5 1/2 years now was taken from my own hotel room.
This has been reported to the police and the hotel and convention staff are investigating too but for now I have very mixed emotions about this. All I can say is that I am glad that so many people so far have actually shared the twitter post I made about this https://twitter.com/Dalesly1/status.....005158405?s=09 and I am incredibly gracious that fursuit makers have offered to make me a new head however, this should have not happened in the first place and I am disgusted that somebody would do this. It's like that feeling you get when somebody breaks into your house and steals a family heirloom or a precious keepsake.
Personally, I don't know what more to do but all I can say to anybody reading this is to be on the look out If you see Holden appear anywhere online.

Posted 8 years agoThe 18th of June 2016 will be a day that will be ingrained in my memory for a while to come now. Today, I recieved a commendation from the British Transport Police for assisting in the arrest of an armed individual who was fleeing from police. He was carrying a claw ended axe roughly 18 inches in length but whilst he was running, He had concealed it under his jacket.
He came running in my direction and the police could not catch up whilst wearing all their gear, I noticed this therefore, without hesitation, I took it upon myself to tackle and restrain the man until they did. Tasers drawn, the officers shouted "GET ON THE FLOOR NOW" to him, I released him thinking (like any sane person) that he would comply to avoid getting tasered but he kept on running desperate to get away, 20 yards further up he was shot and fell straight to the floor in the centre of the Bull Ring, the main city centre shopping centre in Birmingham, hundreds of people gathered to gawk and film the incident and generally get in the way.
After the commotion died down and the man was arrested and taken away in a van, my details were taken and I didn't hear anything more of it until 11 months later. I only just found out that the incident was reported on by Sky News and (unfortunately, but at least they did a good job) The Sun where they keep referring to me as a "Have a go hero" the article and CCTV footage from the incident can be found here https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/29583.....gham-shoppers/ and this is the certificate I recieved https://twitter.com/Dalesly1/status.....73233500008448
In the article, the Police said that "While we are extremely grateful to the member of public who intervened, this is not something we would advise people do because, as this incident shows, you never know what a fleeing suspect might have on them." Which is 100% true but it only takes one person's actions to potentially save multiple people from harm and I'm glad I was that person.

2016 is finally here!
Posted 10 years ago2015 was a rollercoaster year full of ups and downs for me. I found it quite a challenge in many ways with only few redeeming features. In fact, I think I'll just list them out to make it easier to see what I mean.
Bad things first: My Mother rejecting my sexuality and ruining my relationship with my BF shaka-snow after I came out (but me and him still love each other to bits) My beloved Father passing away, having almost no money to my name as a result of unemployment, having our first Christmas without my Father and having to witness my Mother and Brother going through states of depression.
However, good things included: Getting my first car, Attending CF for the 3rd time, driving on a drag strip for the first time, passing my advanced motoring course, finally getting in touch with my half-sister whom I have never seen, Going to Scotland for the first time, attending ScotiaCon for the first time, eventually getting proper part-time employment and making many new friends.
So after saying that, hopefully 2016 is going to be one of the best years yet for me as I already have many things planned so let's get this show on the road!

ScotiaCon is a go!
Posted 10 years agoThis will be great! Everything is paid for so ScotiaCon is definitely gonna happen for me next month. This will be my first ScotiaCon and my first time in Scotland too. Despite it being a small con, I've heard many good things about it from previous attendees and quite a few people going are folks that I already know well so it should avoid that element of not knowing anybody. It should also be a fantastic way of keeping my spirits up after my recent bad news (see previous journal)
Only derp on my behalf is that because I booked it so late, room partners are now nonexistent so I've had to pay a bit more for a single room but tbh, I don't care! I'm going and that's all that counts! It should be a fun drive up to Scotland from Birmingham in my tiny little Citroën, that'll be the furthest I've ever been in it that's for sure XD
On a final note, to anyone else who's reading this and also going, I can't wait to see you there!

A sad day in my life
Posted 10 years agoOn the 8th October 2015 at 6:53pm, my father Laurence Leslie Sly passed away at the age of 80. He died due to a cardiac arrest causing brain damage.
He was an exceptional man; very intelligent, well travelled, a very high knowledge of politics and how the economy works. If you ever needed any question answering, he was the man to ask. Born on 25th September 1935, he survived bombings in the Second world war, he served in the army for five years as a Corporal before moving to Adelaide in Australia where he and his first wife had their first child and my half-sister: Mary-lee Sly.
He stayed there for ten years working in a bauxite mine and driving Mack trucks on the roads before moving back to Britain where he eventually became one of the most successful travelling stationary salesmen in the country despite falling for the gold-digging temptress that was his second wife who almost bled him dry of his assets until their divorce in the early eighties.
After that debacle, he decided to spend some time in Jamaica where he met his third wife and my mother: Sharon Elizabeth Sly. She was just 21 and he was 48 when they met in 1984 but despite there still being high disproval in Jamaica over mixed marriages (especially when a white man marries a black woman) they married just a few months later until death did them part, 31 years later. The result was his survival of prostate cancer, my loving brother Ryan and myself and a battle with Parkinson’s Disease over the last 20 years.
You were an incredible person Dad, you have been my emotional rock, my life role model, you've helped me fully conquer the social problems of Asperger's syndrome, you taught me to cook, to be strong, fight for what I believe in, you taught me the ways of the world but most importantly, you've helped me to make the most of my life and for that, I thank you. You were an exceptional father, truly one of a kind and cannot be replaced and on that note, I and indeed all of our family and friends will never forget you.
I love you Dad, and I always will.

Posted 10 years agoConfuzzled this year was absolutely fantastic! Definitely had the most fun at this con so far and managed to get lots of pictures and fursuiting in. Met loads of friends from other meets/previous cons and from the internet and made loads of new friends in the process!
To every fur who I met, hugged, talked to, fursuited with and took pictures of, I love you all and of course the con wouldn't be anywhere near as good without you ^^ (Also, I must put in an extra special mention for

ConFuzzled soon!
Posted 10 years agoIn just 10 days time, ConFuzzled will be here again! I can't say anything apart from I'm so damn excited :D This will be the 3rd time I've been to CF or indeed any convention for that matter and the even better thing is that its just over 20 minutes away from my house!
Anyway, at the moment I'm just still trying to get myself prepared, trying to fine tune my dance routine for the competition and trying to think what to bring along (obviously booze is on the list :P) but most of all what I want to get out of it of course is to have a shit load of fun and to meet all my friends and make some new ones too :D All I can say is that I'll be counting the days until I'm there with all you other fantastic furries ^^

Time does fly when you're having fun! 2 decades on the planet and I'm still going strong, I'm no longer a teenager yet I don't feel a day over 17 XD hopefully this year will be just as fun as the last because with all the furry goings-on last year, it just made it totally fly by ^^ I wish everyone a great new year too and let's make 2015 count!

Posted 11 years agoJust wanted to say that this year has a brilliant year, mostly because I've made so many new friends and travelled to parts of the country I've never been to before :) I hope 2015 will be an even bigger improvement over 2014 and I hope everybody else has a fantastic year too!

Back from Confuzzled
Posted 11 years agoWow, what a con. So many people, so many fursuiters, so many friends and so many new friends too :) I have to admit I perfered last year's hotel but apart from that it was mega fantastic ^^
It was also the first time I have gone to a con with a fursuit too so I took part in the parade and decided to take part in the dance competion as well, I have been told I did awesomely by all mah homies, I came 7th out of 11 entrants, not bad for a first try I suppose :)
I'd also like to say thank you to all of my furry bro's and ho's (you know who you are;)) for keeping me company and helping me out at this con, you are all just awesome.
Overall, this con was just one massive party, the likes of which I have never experienced to this scale so CF2015, watch out, because you can be 100% certain that I'll be back for the truly unique fun that only a furry con can provide :D

Christmas Time!
Posted 12 years agoHello everyone! I don't usually do many journals but since its THAT time of the year again it is pretty much mandatory that I say MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! And to those who aren't as cheerful, remember the food :D
My first fursuit
Posted 12 years agoOn the 21st June 2013 I received my first fursuit. I had won him in the auction at Confuzzled and he is an Aussie shep partial made by 
madebymercury (shout out to mah gurrrl, she got skills :P) and I have got to say I am so pleased with him :D I have decided to call him Holden (any car fans will understand why) and I gave him a little test run in Birmingham city centre earlier today with a few other furs.
The result of that was lots of questions about "How do you fit your hair in there?", several pictures with the public, lots of hugs, a couple of cheered up emos and getting mobbed by about 15 over-excitable teenagers but yeah, it was great fun :) However, the best part is that I have still yet to get the feet, legs and arms for him so if I managed all that with half a suit, I wonder what it'll be like when he's complete? I'll just have to wait and see. Pictures will be coming soon so stay tuned!

Slightly belated CF2013 journal
Posted 12 years agoWell, my first ever convention is over and it was one of the most entertaining and enriching experiences of my life! Everyone as so open and friendly it hurt not to go over and talk to/hug someone!
Some of the fursuits I saw were absolutely amazing along with the cars at motofurs and the events that were set up. Now the convention is moving to just outside the NEC in the Hilton, I hardly even have to leave home to go next year, which will no doubt be a mark an my calendar BRUMCON 2014!
I must thank all of my friends for showing me the ropes as well as all the new friends I made, I love you all!
