Posted 14 years agoToday I got something in the mail from the Census Bureau saying I'm going to get something in the mail from the Census Bureau.
It came with a pamphlet that was translated into, besides Spanish, Japanese, some form of Chinese, (I think) Vietnamese, and Russian. What.

Posted 14 years agoSo I just logged into FurryMuck for the first time in like six months and decided to give a glance at recent WCotP strips. I haven't looked at it in a while.

1750: J.S. Bach dies.
Posted 14 years agoHe fades into obscurity and his place of burial is forgotten until the 1890s.
1791: Mozart dies at a ridiculously young age. His place of burial remains unknown.
2011: Steve Jobs dies. The whole world shits its pants.
Take this as you will.

I understand why...
Posted 14 years ago...an artist might want to refresh their style, start from a new approach, and all that.
What I don't understand is why those artists feel an urge to OBLITERATE EVERYTHING THAT HAS COME BEFORE.
I'm looking at you, MrK-9. I mean, it's like you're Brahms or something, burning absolutely everything every time you have an epiphany.
And we'd really like to get a chance to look at the stuff Brahms wrote when he was young.
But he got rid of it.
And posterity has regretted it.
Not that you're Brahms.
I mean, I don't really like Brahms.
But a lot of Bach's stuff has gone the way of the garbage heap, too, because composers at the time didn't think to preserve their work for posterity.
STOP IT.

Posted 14 years agoMah new blawg: Twilight Re-Write
Posted 14 years agoCross-posted from my new blog, Twilight Re-Write
--
So here's the deal. The Twilight saga fascinates me. It's 2,500 pages and four books made almost entirely out of filler, hailed by its fans as a great, epic romance, when in reality it's a bloated, poorly-written heap of sexist, misogynist slog.
I wrote about this in my other blog, The (Adjective) Reviewer Person, attempting to justify my interest and explain why this series is the most popular thing since gaffer tape. You can see that entry here, if you want to read it.
In that entry, I mused about re-writing the first book, as a creative writing exercise, and I decided to go ahead and give it a go.
These are my goals:
1) Condense, condense, condense. You could chop off several pages simply by removing every instance of the word "perfect", for example.
2) Obliterate the misogyny and sexism. I suspect a lot of this can be fixed simply by giving the characters personalities.
3) Turn up the plot. There is something kind-of like a plot in this book, but it's stretched to the breaking point and smothered in filler.
4) Turn up the heat. This book is supposed to be romantic and at least somewhat erotic. It's neither.
So there you go. I'll be posting it in installments. The first one will go up sometime today.

Chester Magreer
Posted 14 years agoSo there's this character named Chester and he's gay and he's a cacomistle and he's gay and he's swishy and this doesn't align with my idea of what a fictional gay furry anthropomorphic non-existent talking animal character should be like so I'm gonna draw really nasty violent pictures of him getting the shit beat out of him because then my e-penis and digital confidence about my own sexuality will grow I hate my life and myself why did I have to be gay oh God have mercy on me ;.;

oh hay
Posted 14 years agoIt's a comic illustrated by Krahnos. That's pretty cool.
Oh. It's written by the same guy who does Carpe Diem.
Nevermind.
