Why do I get so damn worked up by a video game?
Posted 15 years agoSo, just finished Mass Effect 2 with my transfer from ME1. Y'all know how it goes.
Anyway, I was a total bitch and sent Kaiden to his death on purpose because he was hitting on me. "Why play a female at all?" You might ask. Simple answer:
As a male character, ME1 gives you:
Religious, army-brat with guns (+)
Freakin' whimp-ass Asari archeologist (meh)
While ME2 gives you:
Sexy Bitch (++)
Psycho Bitch (who would have just as much fun fucking your brains out as she would beating it out of your skull with her fists)
Sex-the-life-out-of-you Bitch (again, not a great way to go)
or Tali... (meh)
With options like these, the solution was simple: Garrus. He's kinda got the whole "borderline badass" thing going on -- "borderline" because he gets seriously obsessed with shit, plus when you get all friendly with him in the second game, he trips over himself so many times that he's just too adorable to take seriously.
'course, if you could get your hands on a Krogan, then hot damn... but anyways, moving on.
I got through the last mission with everybody except Legion alive, and I was freakin' out the whole fuckin' time, trying to make sure nobody died. My brother thought it was hilarious.
The one real hang-up I have is not figuring out how to keep Legion from taking a rocket to the face without sacrificing the another character... oh, and the whole "Paragon/Renegade" bullshit. I mean, just how many people do you have to piss off, anyway? I was being all kinds of bitch, and I ended the game with 100% Paragon, 50% Renegade... wtf. Well... I mean, that's not the ONLY other problem. Anybody notice how BioWare uses the exact same stuff, and it's still awesome? How the hell do they do that? Every game, you start out as some random dude or dudette, who just happens to be the only hope of defeating a massive Big Bad, or you're all screwed. Throw in some romance options, a Good/Bad scale, a couple different classes, gathering up party members, and a bunch of side quests, and it's a BioWare game. I'll tell you what it is: the games involve the players. The dialogue is well-written, and as cliche as the stories are, sometimes, they're well-written, too. Most of the characters are interesting, and they've really done a great job developing the "cause and effect" in their games. Man... I swear those guys are the devil. ~<3

Posted 15 years agoI don't know what I'm going to say here, so I'm just typing.
It's like the wallpaper of my world is ripping and falling to reveal something I know can't exist. I see. I feel. I smell. I hear. I know it's not real, but it won't leave me alone.
How do I function? Knowing I'm human; seeing and smelling and touching the world -- while the dark twisting shadows take form behind me, and tell me I'm something impossibly "other". Some mix-matching creature inside of the truth.
I know that I'm human, and I know that I'm not, but I don't want to know what I am when I'm not. I want to be me, whatever "me" is, so I'll wear human skin for as long as I have to, and deal with the monster-shaped bridge when I get there... if I get there... if my road even goes down that far.
But the monster-shaped bridge isn't always so patient -- it huffs and it puffs and it knocks the world over and I fall down. Down, to the earth that never existed, in my head.
And the monster-shaped bridge has such beautiful eyes, and such cold, hungry fangs, and such a beautiful broken heart. And the tears become the stream that flows down to my dreams and fills me up with the nonsense taking over my life.
And the monster-shaped bridge can cry tears that are gold, and give me hope, and shine bright like a sea full of diamonds, or the bridge can cry cold, black tears that take hold and drag me down to the world that never existed, in my head.
That world is full of people, and places no one's ever been, and they're good and they're bad, just like you. And the world can be beautiful, and the world can be ugly, and I can sing, or I can scream, or I can love, or I can hate you. But that's not your fault.
I'm a beast in my heart -- locked away, so no one can break the curse I've put on myself. So I'll kill, and destroy everything I enjoy, even before I open my eyes. And I'll see, but not feel, anything that is real, as the blackest tears swallow me, pull me down... I can't breathe.
Then I wake up and face the day, and that monster inside me that won't go away. I do what I can to be just like every other fake person I see, so they only see the good that I can't see in myself. And everything's beautiful, and we're all okay, until we go back to our little black box, full of little black tears, and go back to places we don't belong.
. . . The words have stopped. Please, don't take this too seriously, or copy any of these words without permission.

Back from holidays and status blablabla + 358/2 Days Review
Posted 16 years agoOkay, so, just got back from the family's for Xmas, and what-not, I'm out of paper, so there will be no new art for a while, sadly.
As for stories, I'm gonna finish up the current arc, and call that baby done, and then we'll see if I come up with more, I guess.
I'll be around, I think, but probably a touch less than usual.
Okay, now on with the show.
So, if you haven't played 358 yet, and you like the Kingdom Hearts series at all, you should get it.
My two major concerns with the DS were control scheme and world layout -- because heads were gonna roll if we got the half-assed "room" setup from Chain of Memories, y'know?
Thankfully, the eight worlds you go to in the game are done pretty well, considering it's a DS game. Twilight Town is only missing like, one or two areas, and they even revamped Neverland so you don't spend the whole time on Captain Hook's ship. It's great. Anyway, so the world areas are a good adaptation of the original world designs, minus a few unnecessary zones, like Aladin's house in Agrabah, or inside the train station in Twilight Town. Very close to the original, I think.
The only thing I didn't like about the controls was the targeting; it could be a player malfunction, and not the fame being dumb, but y'know, I'd be fighting some major boss, and a Shadow would pop up and get in the way before I could lock on a boss. It's not like it doesn't work, but I think the targeting and camera are the two largest problems with the gameplay.
The story itself begins as soon as Roxas is created, which was when Sora became a heartless in the first game, and it literally ends where KHII begins -- Day 1, Twilight Town -- and yes, that means you get to fight Riku in The World that Never Was, like in the "Another Side, Another Story" clip. I won't say too much on Xion's story, for those of you who haven't played through it, but I will say that the story is definitely worth playing through, though my favorite part was seeing the Organization members interract with each other, not so much with Roxas.
You play as Roxas in story mode, but the game also offers Mission mode, where you can play through most levels as the various Organization XIII members. Now, I'm not gonna lie, I kinda expected the Org members to play pretty much the same, and hack-n'-slash my way through a level with Xigbar, just like I had with Roxas in story. That um... that didn't work out very well, for a few reasons: 1. all the bad guys have more health, and higher overall level -- it was designed for multiple players to go in and take them down. 2. Half of Xigbar's attacks didn't even connect while in melee range. 3. Xigbar's guns, along with all the other weapons in the game, have various gear you can equip that change the way he fires, how many shots he has, as well as his stats -- the shot number was really the major downside to Xiggy (none of the other characters have that restriction, fyi), also that some of his gear's air combos shoot only at ground targets.
Speaking of equipment, welcome to the major hassle in this game! Bet you thought since I am a major fan of the series, it would all be good reviews from the wolfie, huh? Or maybe you didn't even know that... either way, equipping stuff in 358 sucks balls... and not in the fun way. You get a grid, and all your use-items (potions, ethers, etc.), gear (weapons and rings), spells (do I really have to explain this one?), and even your levels go on that thing. So, whenever you level up, you get a "level panel", and you aren't lvl. 2 until you stick the panel on your grid, taking space away from your lvl. 3 High Jump and Auto Life. Realistically, though, there are plenty of items that you get throughout the game to give you more slots, so by the time you have to worry about running out of space, the main story might be over already, and you've either moved on to another game, or are working on getting your Ultima Weapon... which I still haven't gotten yet. Anyways, there were a few times when the panel system just sucked, like when I went into a mission, and discovered that equipping a "Firaga" panel gave me exactly one shot of Firaga. That's right... if you want to shoot fireballs, you have to equip one panel for every fireball you shoot. Same goes for items, the difference being that items will disappear from your grid once they're used, while spells will recharge at the start of your next mission, or if you use an ether. Thank God for "Link Panels", though, man. Link Panels let you consolidate your grid a little, like instead of stacking four "fire" panels, taking up four squares on the grid, you can get a "doublecast" panel, which takes up the same space, but gives you two spells per panel, so a single "cure" linked to a double-, triple-, or quad-cast panel will give you the appropriate increase in uses. Most of the weapons are also link panels, and you get special panels that increase stats or unlock gear-specific abilities to help you out. You also get level up modifiers, and link panels that increase the number of items you can pick up while on missions.
It takes some getting used to, is a total hassle when you want to change your weapon, which will inevitably have a different Tetris-esque shape than the previous one -- requiring you to rearrange pretty much everything, and pisses people off when they're waiting to go smash Heartless, and you're holding everyone up because somebody decided to switch to a Magic-type character, and has to redo their grid from scratch... *ahem*, but once you get used to it... it's slightly less of a pain.
So, on-the-whole, I'd give 358/2 Days a pretty solid 9. Control scheme works smoothly, gameplay is good in Story and Multiplayer, the Story is on-par with KHII, the graphics for the major cutscenes are fantastic, for a DS game, and the new musical pieces and arrangements (I would argue) are some of Shimomura's best yet.
And, in case anyone was wondering, Zexion and Marluxia are my homies.
Zexion is a high-Magic character, who really shouldn't even try melee, if he can avoid it -- invest in lots of splash damage spells and research enemy weaknesses before the mission, and you'll have an easier time beating your team members in points. If you find yourself short on spells, either the ground combo or defense weapons would be my recommendation.
Marluxia has high crit % and crit modifier already, so stacking strength and combo speed on your weapon, and equipping a crit ring let me hack through three or four Heartless at a time, given the long reach of his scythe. Marly's fourth-highest stat is Magic, but it's still pretty high among melee characters, so while he's not as powerful in Magic as some of the others, it does give you the ability to offer up respectable spell damage, without having to equip a Magic-boosting weapon.
That's how I play them, anyway. Once you have enough gear and slots to choose from, you can really play them however you want, just remember that daggers and shields will never have the melee range of scythes and swords.
Anywho, hope y'all had great holidays and everything! Peace.

The Captain's Song Meme.
Posted 16 years agoSo, CaptainGerBear put out a dare, and I'm totally going for it. Here's how it works:
I'm gonna sing the first three songs that get posted as a reply to this journal.
That's all there is to it. Now post, and if you feel up to it, get your own going. That's kinda how memes work, y'know. ^_^
Oh yeah, and if you don't really have any ideas, you can check out my last.fm to see what kinda music I listen to.

- What is your sexiest outfit?: Good question... probably my black button down shirt (worn open, of course), the right sleeve rolled up (not the left). Black slacks, a belt slung through one belt loop, my collar, and a fingerless glove on the left hand. Character Stuff
Posted 16 years agoStole this from thewielder, because he's awesome, and I'm bored.
1. What is your character's name?
Let's go with Avalon for this one. He's one of my favorites.
2. What is your character's name in another language?
Hmm... good question. I guess maybe in Japan they might call him アヴァロン, perhaps. His Grandfather's name was PROJECT BENJAMIN, so perhaps a derivative of that, might be appropriate, as well.
3. How old is he/she?
Avalon is considered to be in his mid 30s, though in truth, he is almost 60.
4. What is your character's race/species?
Unicorn. In actuality, Avalon is a descendant of a race created through biological engineering, some 1800 years from present day.
5. Do they have a crush?
I've been toying around with a few ideas, and certainly, a few of his students find him attractive, but he has no particular crush, at the moment.
6. Do they have many friends?
Avalon lives in the wreckage of his time-traveling vessel, EON, along with Fenix, Dragoon, Burss, Kenneth, and Robyn. He has recently hired a "grooming aid", named Tyr, and often socializes with a large Sharpe dog, named Marche, who owns the local coffee shop, and occasionally, the barkeep, Leon, will stop by for a chat, though Avalon does not consider him a friend so much as an acquaintance.
7. What planet is your character from?
Av's from Earth, but way in the future.
8. Does your character like to eat?
He doesn't enjoy eating, though he realizes it is necessary. Without hands, and with his muzzle the way it is, he often finds eating with human utensils to be awkward and annoying, though he refuses to stoop to eating grass or oats, like his "ancestors". He often will eat privately.
9. What's his/her favorite food?
Rice.
10. What's his/her favorite drink?
Avalon likes his mojitos.
11. Is your character annoying?
He tends to like to explore and explain the intricacies of anything they might encounter. Even such day-to-day things as the contents of the cereal Kenneth was enjoying, or the exact volume of a shampoo bottle. This is often found annoying. Other than that, he's pretty likable.
13. Is your character loved?
By all.
14. Is your character hated?
Nobody hates Avalon, really.
15. Is he/she emo/goth?
Not at all. "And might I point out that 'goth' is a rather fantastic from of architecture, not a social stigma. I believe some humans refer to it as 'gothy', to avoid this unfortunately common error. Mayhap, you would try it, sometime."
16. Is he/she straight, bisexual, or gay?
If Avalon is ever sexually attracted to someone, no one knows it. Rumors started that he was gelded, but such rumors are quickly dispelled with a visit to his house.
17. Is he/she a virgin?
This is unknown. Most likely not, but he's never revealed such information.
18. Name 3 hobbies
Being naked, grooming (it can take hours), tending the garden.
19. Is your character normal?
Mmm... not particularly, no.
20. Is your character attractive?
"Some find the muzzle... rather off-putting. But, on the whole, I seem to fit the standard requirements of attractive males in the current culture."
In ley-man's terms, he's a hottie.
21. How does your character handle emotions?
He seems to be rather unshakable, and rather easy going about... pretty much everything.
22. Does your character have other forms?
No
23. Does your character overreact?
Nope. If he gets noticeably excited at all, then something's up. Generally, he underreacts, if anything.
24. Is your character a criminal?
No
25. Does your character go to school?
He teaches a physics class
26. What's his/her IQ?
"I find the concept of 'IQ' to be rather... unnecessary. Let's just say I'm smarter than you, and call it good, hmm?"
27. Does your character have a disease/curse?
The time-travel tech on board EON is... less than perfect. As a result, Avalon was exposed to the time stream, which destroyed most of his memories. He also can't discern the concept of time anymore, so he gets these nasty headaches when he tries to understand a clock.
28. Is your character dead?
Is this question necessary?
29. Does your character have a family?
Somewhere, his race's creator's great grandparents might be riding on training wheels, but any family is unknown.
30. Has he/she encountered any tragic times in life?
He's seen a future where everyone he loves dies... but it's okay, he used EON to go back and change it.
31. What's the best time in your character's life?
When he successfully creates the cold-fusion generator that powers EON. Again, he's from the f'in' future.
32. If you could name 1 friend, which would you relate to your character?
Most of my characters relate more to me, than my friends...
33. Is your character single?
at the moment.
34. Has he/she developed any relationships?
He has a close friendship with his groomer, Tyr, and he cares for his "family" aboard the EON more than anything in the world.
35. Does she/he have an element?
Like... geez, he's not a fuckin' airbender, if that's what you mean. He can use telekinesis, but I threw that in just because he doesn't have hands. His combat ability is pretty low.
36. Do you role-play your character?
I haven't, no...
37. Do you write about your character?
He was in my After Dark story, and I'm hoping to do another story in comic format later on.
38. Does your character have a bad temper at times?
He has the power to demoralize his opponent with a compliment, but that's really the only way you can tell that he's pissed.
39. Does your character get depressed?
Nope.
40. What's your characters favorite animal?
He enjoys the company of the "normal" birds that come to his garden.
41. Does your character have any fears?
He has a recurring nightmare of the future where everyone he loves dies, but his memories were nearly all lost when he used the time machine, so he doesn't know it's a possible future.
42. Does your character have any weaknesses?
His telekinetic power is not nearly powerful enough for combat, and his own skill in such things is rather limited. Also, he can't comprehend time.
43. Does your character look up to anyone?
He has a certain respect for the geniuses of the past, but he doesn't really look up to anyone. Except for the few anthros around town who are taller than him.
44. Does your character like music?
Yes, absolutely. He's very supportive of his friends-and-housemates' band, and enjoys listening to classic and contemporary composers.
45. What's your character's favorite type of music?
He really like movie and video game soundtracks. Shimomura Youko, Koji Kondo, Howard Shore, that kinda stuff.
46. Is he/she impatient?
A little, but he tries not to show it.
47. What's something funny about your character?
He's a genius/amnesiac/nudist/college professor from the future. What more do you want?
48. Name 5 nicknames
"Av" is the only acceptable nickname, in his book. Many others were ruled out long ago.
49. Does your character curse?
Maybe lightly, if ever, but he isn't prone to it.
50. This test is over, what does your character have to say?
"Well, I must say, this was not as enjoyable as I had hoped, but still, it may be appreciated by some who wish to know more about me. Although, if one truly wished to know me better, I believe a social engagement, such as coffee, or perhaps an instant message chat, would be more affective, and enjoyable. Although, I doubt you could've gotten the others to take it, anyway. Kenneth would've ignored it until it went away. Robyn might enjoy it, perhaps. Burss would forget to do it, and then we'd find out about it a week later. Dragoon would refuse out-right, and Fenix... well, he's a sweetheart, really, and he'd do it, too, but we wouldn't want to crush his faith in human intelligence, now would we?"
1. What is your character's name?
Let's go with Avalon for this one. He's one of my favorites.

Art Wish List
Posted 16 years agoYou can blame Yaoi_Dealer for the good idea. What you do, is put up a list of stuff you'd like drawn, and then if somebody's bored, or has time, or just likes the idea, they can draw it. Simple, right?
Oh, and if somebody does a piece for you, it would be cool to do some kind of 'thank you', whether you draw or not. So I guess it's sort of like an opportunity for an art trade, if you want to think of it that way. I kinda like the "just for fun, and I'm that nice of a guy" reasoning, myself.
So I guess here's what I'd like:
--Any pics of my EON characters, especially pics for the "After Dark" story, or anything else y'all wanna draw them doing. (Nothing too sexual without permission first, if you please.)
--Pics of Tyr and me and any other characters or whatever, doin' whatever (no sweet lovin's, though, please!)
Guess that's it, then. Not expecting too much, since I'm not y'know... real well-known, or anything, but hey, I liked the idea, and I'm throwing it out there.

Newish tablet... needs help.
Posted 16 years agoI got an old tablet from a pal of mine, and it worked fine on his compy. I got the driver and everything, but for some reason, on my computer, the sensitivty is shot to hell, and it does this weird thing, that looks like I tried to draw a straight line by placing my paper over a brick wall (basically, it gets all zig-zaggy for no reason).
Anyone with some tablety know-how, I need help!

In Case You Were Wondering...
Posted 16 years agoJust thought I'd put some info about me up, at long last. Um... I think age and stuff is already on my profile, so I'll skip that and go to the weird stuff.
I guess the whole wolf thing started when I was like, 15ish. As a would-be writer, I often talk to some of my characters, to get a little inspiration -- imagining them in my head as if they were real. Her name was Aibou, and she kinda acted like my mother, when I went camping and stuff... or maybe my very own, big, fluffy, white Jiminy Cricket.
16, I'm at a Boy Scout Camp (Yeah, I made Eagle, so don't laugh) with a harvest moon out. I didn't sleep that night until like, four in the morning, and a few other people had trouble sleeping, because I was running around, looking at pretty much everything. The night was so clear, it was all so cool -- I could see everything. Anyway, some people decided I was high, and when I woke up with a massive headache, they dubbed it a lunar hangover, and my fate was sealed as "The Werewolf" for the last few years of Boy Scouts.
So now we come to community college, during my last two years of high school (running start, and stuff). Nobody at the college knows about my little werewolf nickname, and Aibou is long gone, but I get a new nickname here, don't worry. This time it's "Puppy". Mostly on account of me bein' all cute, and only slightly overprotective of my peeps, so they say. Then one day a guy snuck up behind me and scratched the top of my head, and I kinda melted like butter, which kinda solidified "Puppy" as my name.
Somewhere along the way I got pretty sick and stopped eating, and that's about when Tyr showed up. Some part of my mind made a wall between the "me" that got picked on as a kid, couldn't seem to get things right, is often depressed, is a hopeless romantic, loves to sing and dance and act and draw, and just wants to be happy, and the "me" that was responsible, strong, brave, likes to fight and run and howl, and also wants to be happy, but understands that happiness is not just served to you on a platter. The latter of the two "me"s, we named Tyr, and he helped keep me from starving myself for too long.
There have been times when Tyr and I are synced up, and act as one. Any transitions between he and I are subtle. Other times, the difference between us seems drastic. It's even gotten so weird that my brother asked if I had multiple personalities, but that was a while ago. Now-a-days, he's just a wolf who lives in my head, and keeps me from doing stupid stuff.
So that's pretty much the life-story of Tyr... the highlights, anyway. I know this whole thing is probably crazy to some people, but I just felt like typing it all out. Might base a story off it one day... who knows.

Summer Caption Contest: Round 2 [CLOSED]
Posted 16 years agoAlright guys, it's time for the next Caption Contest!
Picture is found here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2451370/
Come up with something for this pic and post it here, NOT THE SUBMISSION PAGE!
If I like yours best, I'll sketch almost anything you'd like. Sketches will be colorless, basic sketches, just in case I didn't make that clear last time.
Entries can be up to one paragraph in length, this time, if you guys get creative, and I'm really not picky about the content -- whatever you guys wanna post is fine by me, no matter how crude or ridiculous.

They all come here... how do they find me?
Posted 16 years agoSo I'm at the cast party for the show I was in recently, and one of my friends' 12-year-old sister walks up and pets my head while I'm conked-out with my head on the table...
That, and she's been way too friendly with me lately...
But seriously, I seem to have the misfortune of getting crushed on by 12-16 year old girls. I don't get it. A pal of mine said it's because I'm pretty, and have that kind of "Jonas Brothers" quality to me, but I'm like, "So?!? That doesn't mean I drive up to little girls with trucks full of candy! God!"

Fursona Meme
Posted 16 years ago1 – Do you and your "fursona" look alike?
Not especially.
2 – Do you and your "fursona" share attires?
Yeah, usually.
3 – Do you share the same sexuality as your fursona?
Nope. He's not as gay as I am.
4 – If you hadn’t already made your fursona look like you, if you would to change how he/she looked like to make him/her look more like you, how would you think he/she would look like?
Well, it just wouldn't be Tyr. It'd look like Tyr's little brother (which is not a bad idea...)
5 – Did you work hard to develop your fursona? What is the (brief) history of your fursona?
Tyr is an actual persona of mine. He's become different enough from my 'normal' behavior that we gave him a separate name from mine. The wolf part is just what my mind pictures him as.
6 – Do you and your fursona share relationship status?
Nope. I'm currently in a relationship. He considers himself single, atm.
7 – Do you find yourself jealous or upset if you get paired with someone you don’t like or your partner does?
Nobody draws Tyr, so I haven't had that problem.
8 – How would you like your character not to be used?
I have my limits, of course, but if you get permission first, I'd like to think I'm pretty lenient.
9 – What’s your fursona’s specialty?
He protects me (from myself, if need-be). It's sorta his job.
10 – At a score of 1-10 how much are you and your fursona alike?
4 or 5 maybe.
Not especially.

SakuraCon '09
Posted 16 years agoSo I went to my very first Con ever, which was SakuraCon, in Seattle. It was pretty awesome. Did the Hare Hare Yukai and Moetteke! Sailor Uniform dances, and was officially declared the best glomper by the glomp circle, but I think the best part may have been the raves. I'd never been to one, and despite there being way more skilled people dancing there, I found I could do a lot more amazing things than I thought I could when I let myself off my leash. It was friggin' awesome.
Oh, and due to the nature of SakuraCon, no there weren't drugs at this rave... that I know of, anyway. It was all sweat, adrenaline, music, and glowing shit. A lot more furries at SakuraCon than I'd expected, too. The whole first night had a bunch of 'em, and was even themed toward it, to a certain extent.
