Looking to free up some space. Pokemon items
Posted 12 years agoI have a bunch of old Pokemon stuff that I'd like to get rid of. Wondering if anyone would be remotely interested. Mostly Pikachu stuff, some mew, and those old Gold Pokemon cards with pokeball and certificates. Dont want them to go to waste when someone else could be enjoying them.
Need a better camera

So know what sucks?
Posted 13 years agoTrying to cast thing in clear resin and then finding out your floor/entire house is at a slight enough incline/decline that anything put into the resin, if not watched for hours, slowly drifts in the resin before it hardens. Ill be having fun trying to make a even surface for which to place the wet resin on so that it may set without items inside drifting...
Ill be posting a small crab in resin soon.

Taxidermy type things
Posted 13 years agoSo I'm getting back into creepy things. I may post bugs in resin soon and may get back into doing wet specimens.
Anyone local to Cape Cod know of any taxidermists that may be able to tan a few squirrel skins I have obtained myself?
I am also helping my bf
najuk with his chainmaille stuff so I may end up posting some cheap, discounted, reject pieces that have scratched rings.

Posted 14 years agoSo far today has been bad.
First thing that happened, I put my rat, Tobias, in my sweater pocket to go outside to my car to bring my boyfriend to work. He jumped out of the pocket the minute or so my hand wasnt touching him and I felt no difference in weight in my pocket for when he jumped. Mind you this is not normal for him to jump away from me. Panic and anxiety fled through me and I ran back to the area where I first took my hand out of my pocket searching around everywhere.
I live in an apartment complex where there are a lot of parked cars, bushes, and decks to hide under.
I felt like I was a mother who lost her child in the grocery store. Luckily for me my boyfriend spotted him as he poked his head out briefly from under a deck where there was a hole. I had my boyfriend wait there after my rat went to hide further in to go grab some things from the house that might lure him out. My boyfriend came a minute later saying he caught him. THANK GOD. I thought I would have been there, in the wetness for a few hours trying to get him out. I was almost in tears because I thought I lost him forever as rats dont know to go back to the house, they dont have that type of homing instinct.
Now, while cleaning the house to make it pretty for boyfriend who caught and found my dear critter I was putting glass cups inside mugs to make it easier to transport them to the sink. One cup, the only cup that got stuck, got stuck in my Yellowstone Mug that I got when I was 17 during my trip to Yellowstone National Park. In the process of trying to pull the stuck glass out I broke the mug so its no longer usable.... I use that mug a lot, its my favorite mug. I wanted to cry and almost did.
Top it off its raining out and my only day off this week besides Thanksgiving and I was planing to clean my porch area off which is currently full of leaves and crap and people trail dirt and leaves into the house... havent had the opportunity to do so as I've work a lot of mornings and dont get out until around 5pm at which point its gotten too dark to work.
I shouldnt complain, other people have worse things to complain about but this just got me in a funk now....

Cage!
Posted 14 years agoI have a used Ferret Nation 142 cage that I am trying to get rid of for my move. Im looking to get 140$ for it since its still in great condition. If anyone knows of anyone who wants this type of cage let me know or let them know of my post.. usually you can buy this cage for 230 so its a steal for most people.
Need a home for 2 or 3 male rats.
Posted 14 years agoSo I've been trying to find a home a few rats that I have. I love them but I really need to downsize due to a move that will be happening soon and due to the size of the place I need to downsize my cage. I have 2 groups of rats, a duo and a trio.
The duo are two Rex Agouti Selfs that will be a year in May. These two seem to stick together a lot and I tend to call them the Twins. Their real names are Skoll and Hati but I doubt they know it. These two are VERY friendly, handleable, and will generally sit with you. They are distinguishable by a small difference in color, size, temperment, and curliness of their fur; one is a little skittish at times but calms down quickly after being startled. These two have been housed with 5 other male rats.
The trio are rescues but are from the same litter; the person who had taken them were not taking care of them properly and were reclaimed due to our agreement. These guys are small for males due to malnourishment from their previous owner but are putting on weight at a steady pace and they have a clean bill of health. These guys need to go together. Their colors are Agouti Hooded, smokey Grey Self, and Agouti; they dont have much for curls but that may be due to lack of food so they may be Rex also, if they dont ever develop curls then they are carriers of the gene.
Male rats are extremely cuddly and sweet. Great for those who like to relax with a buddy who will doze off on you.
I am hoping people can pass this around!
I need to know what type of cage and how big, what type of bedding, food, and other animals that people own before giving them to a home.
Does anyone know if MassFurs group would post this? I am willing to travel a distance to get them a home with only gas money wanted for them.

Allergies
Posted 15 years agoI think that I am in fact allergic to dogs.... explains the sneezing ever since I moved into this house(there were 3 long haired shedding dogs here); they are gone now. Since the heat is on and drying up the dog hairs that have gotten into the vents my sneezing has reduced but when ever my housemate brings her pugs downstairs my sneezing starts up and I sneeze at work(Petsmart) a lot. I dont have issues with non shedding dogs though as their hair doesnt get everywhere. Sad but at least its no my kitties, rats, or ferrets. :)

Looks like FA is getting nitpicky now. It doesnt affect me but may affect many of you.
Pretty much this states that any copyright character that is listed as underage is now OFF LIMITS.
I wonder if that pertains to any animal character that wouldnt ever get over the age of 18, like adult lion king characters who would die before they ever got to 18? Hmm??

Death
Posted 15 years agoLong story short: My rat was put down yet I dont feel guilty, ashamed, or any negative feelings over my decision to do so. I am happy and calm, but will miss my favorite friend.
Long story:
I've experienced death in many forms and from a young age. When I was about 4 my great grand father died unexpectedly, I knew what happened, I was sad but I showed no emotion. I knew I would not see him again but I still couldnt show what emotions I was holding in. At the age of 10 my very first cat passed away at the young age of 5, we still dont know what happened to him, my mom told me when I got home of his passing. This was my friend, my comfort, he made me happy after a day at school which I dreaded; again I passed no tears and my mom wasnt sure what to make of it but I would cry alone when everyone was asleep or on long car rides, I would do so without a sound so not to alert anyone. From this point forward I would then experience a variety of deaths ranging from pets dieing in my hands, pets dissapearing, a death of a close family friend who I regret never really getting to know her and not liking her for no reason though she was a good person, and deaths that made me feel guilty and responsible such as the putting down of my diabetic cat who saw no improvement but rather was going down hill ever so slowly. All these deaths I have been sad about and would not show much grief towards but would drag it with me as though I placed some unnecessary guilt on myself because of it.
For once I have experienced a death that has left me calm, comforted and the only sadness I really hold is that I will miss my dear friend and pet rat, Orion. I had to put him down yesterday after suddenly becoming ill and regressing in health so quickly over the course of a couple days. I question whether getting him on antibiotics faster or if I fed him Nutrical more frequently would he have lived longer or been strong enough to fend off whatever had plagued him so quickly. I question the thought but I am not put down or feel guilt induced because my little buddy lived a long life for a rat. Orion was 2 years and approximately 7-8 months old at his passing, he has traveled in backpacks, ridden in a car, was with a rat buddy, then lived a single life for a while, got a girlfriend, had babies, and then finally after 2 years was no longer hostile to other male rats and joined in a colony of 10 to live out the rest of his life. He was pampered with tastey treats the last couple of months he was alive and lots of cuddling the last few weeks of his life.
I feel happy that I was lucky enough to have spent this long with him but I will miss him greatly. This was the rat that I almost didnt get, I fell in love with him and named him before I had purchased him at Petsmart. The day I got him a customer was handling and holding him and stated that they were going to come back later to get him, I almost panicked at the thought of not getting this curious little fellow with curly blue hair and a small area of thin fur on both sides of his back. I hadnt even asked my mom if I could get another rat but I bought him anyway and he spent about 3-4 hours in a box while I waited to go home from work. From there he met Ta'ar, my very shy rat who had a completely different personality from Orion and his life started with me. I now have 6 of his sons who have personalities not too different from his and I hope to have them for as long, if not longer, than I had him.
Sorry if this was long and seemingly pointless to most of you, I just had to put this somewhere where I wouldnt feel cheesy for doing so. On another note I should be drawing more as my wrists dont hurt much anymore.

Squirrel
Posted 15 years agoMuch to my surprise there is a squirrel out there that has similar markings as my fursona which oddly ranges from my birthplace in Wyoming all the way to Central America and lives in central US states.
Abert's Squirrel.. weird. Some have markings on lower arms/legs of the same reddish brown color.

Tattoo
Posted 15 years agoSo Im thinking about getting a small tattoo, probably only a few inches, not something big, of one or two of my rats. Who knows I may get more tattoos as others pass or get close to passing. I would like to get a tattoo of Ta'ar my first rat and of Orion who has been and still is my best buddy but is getting old.
If you know of any artist that does good tattoos or realistic animal drawings please post on this journal of any suggestions.

Preferences
Posted 15 years agoI was wondering what people prefer.
Digital art?
Traditional art?
I ask this because I see many artists offering traditional art and I would offer the same but unfortunately I do not have a steady hand when it comes to inking and I always make mistakes when coloring or I do not have the tools Id like to color with available. Prismacolor markers are expensive and I just fail when it comes to colored pencil since I make it too dark. I would paint but I dont have the space for it or the tools(canvas type stuff, acrylic paint or oils). I probably should experiment more but my lack of inking skills tends to prevent me from doing so.
What do you think? I like digital art, its not necessarily easier, I just am able to fix mistakes easier.
Do people buy digital art? Especially if it gets printed out/laminated?
Im just curious.

Posted 15 years ago-Umber doesn't own a can opener, she just chews through the can.
-The last digit of pi is Umber. She is the end of all things.
-A Handicapped parking sign does not signify that this spot is for handicapped people. It is actually in fact a warning, that the spot belongs to Umber and that you will be handicapped if you park there.
-There is no theory of evolution, just a list of creatures Umber allows to live.
-Umber puts the laughter in manslaughter.
-Umber doesn't have blood. She is filled with magma.
