Posted 6 years agoOriginal Species and Being Trans
Posted 6 years agohey, here's a fun hot take: if you're designing an Original Species that 1) is sentient, 2) has gender in any way, shape, or form, then your species is going to have trans people in it. every culture that has gender as a concept has trans people in it. and if you're going to make an Original Species, there's probably gonna be at least one person in the world who will want to make a trans character using your species. when they ask you questions on how trans ppl of your species present or exist in society, you can't just say "oh trans people just don't exist :)". that's just not logical and it also isn't very nice to the trans people interested in your work. you don't have to have that part of your species all mapped out like crazy, but just a little detail like "a lot of trans men will wear a funny hat to fit in, a lot of trans women will wear leaves in their hair," or smth people can work with. that an important way to connect with all facets of your audience.
also! if you just straight dont know what to add about trans people of your species and you get asked about it....maybe ask other people what they think? like if someones like, "oh, how do trans people present to deal with dysphoria?" ask that person back "yknow idk...what were you thinking?" and collaborate on that aspect. im just sayin

auroradash: making snap decisions and blocking people you don't know because you disagreed with an opinion they had isn't a very good look
