I prefer full-body commissions because it's worth more of my time and it gives me some more valuable practice but I will still do portraits and waists. But I may be looking into getting a plushie commission or even a sculpture for my friend. I want a custom red chocobo from Final Fantasy Tactics. Does anybody know of a good plushie artist? I'll need somebody who can take Paypal and I could even do an art trade if they want. I would preferably like the material to be out of something besides felt. What I'm most concerned with is the eyes, and feathers.
I also may be opening a commission spot soon here... but it will be for a full body commission, I don't think I will do the discount icon commissions anymore, it's honestly not worth my time to hardly get a return on a painting.

New Update! Progress Report - Hurray!

My computer was shipped and is in my new home now in another state. I've been talking to my sister, she hooked it up and it appears to be working properly. I'll be moving states on the 9th.
I'm super excited and I cannot wait to finish the commissions I owe to dearjamie and honeychild. Right now I'm using this ancient computer so I can't do what I want to do with it (paint). I can basically use SAI (I'm SAI-illiterate) to sketch. Blah.
More thorough progress report from when my good computer was last running:
- SO close to being done, mostly details and tweaking - 92% done
- Started to paint a fair amount - 60% done
I did a couple of random sketches to try and get back into the groove. I'll post them since you all haven't seen anything from me in quite a while.

Posted 13 years agoI'm sorry I haven't been active around here lately. Work has been super crazy; 1 girl quit and another got fired so I have been picking up a lot of hours and haven't had much of a chance to work on artwork.
In addition to that, my $1,400 laptop broke down - my motherboard - so that's un-fixable. I ordered a desktop but that won't be coming until the end of April (at which that time I will be moving). My dad says bad luck comes in threes so hopefully that will be the end of that.
Bad luck #1: $1,300

Price of my laptop (new desktop is costing $910 shipping included)

Posted 13 years agoI won't be opening icons next time my slots are open. I would like to focus on at least full-body (maybe waist-up but I prefer to do more) images instead of just headshots. Full backgrounds would be a plus.
I have a pre-made full-body outline that I could do for a discounted price. It's a (nude) female body but I could be willing to change it to a male.
For instance, for $60 you can get a B+W painting with a full background! For $70 ($10 extra) it can be in full color.
That would usually be at least $100 in value.
Would more people be interested in them if they were pre-made's for a discounted price?
I'm really just sick of headshot icons :<
EDIT: I'm also going to focus on collabissions!

Posted 14 years agoSorry I haven't been on much. Been super busy at work (I work retail) and my car broke down so I haven't had time to do commissions. It is just a matter of what my schedule is like but this is a holiday season so I'm putting in a lot of hours and haven't had the time to sit down (or sleep!). Thank you all for being so patient and I'm terribly sorry it is taking so long to work on commissions.
Cat health problems, advice?
Posted 14 years agoMy cat has been having some problems the last 3-4 days. At first she was just kind of dry heaving.
Now, her regurgitating her food is normal. She's a "competitive" eater and I've managed to drastically cut down on how often she regurgitates her food so she hasn't done it a while. Now it is more like a very heavy heaving-coughing - the deep-throated kind and it has been worrying me. I thought it was a hairball but after a couple days she hasn't thrown up anything.
Just two days ago I got some hairball remedy but it says it should take 1 week for it to eliminate a hairball (if there is even one). She still hasn't thrown up anything. Should I take her to the vet or try to wait it out to see if it is a hairball? I think I am going to call the vet anyways today and see what I can find out about it.

Busy + tired
Posted 14 years agoSorry that commissions have been going so slow. Started at my new job and have full time hours. I usually close so I'm absolutely exhausted when I get back home and go to bed right away. I can only work on artwork on my days off because of that :/
And I calculated my gas, I spend $98 every 2 weeks just to get to and from work ;n;
Amazing.
Anyways, just thought I would update everybody in case you were worried since I usually am good about getting commissions out in a good time frame.

$5 Digital Paintings Announcement **PLEASE READ**
Posted 14 years agoIn my last submission you know how I said I had to buy a power cord for my computer? Well it cost $10. That got me thinking. That meant I have to complete 2 digital painting icon drawings.... just to buy a lousy power cord at a store so I can finish commissions. I ended up getting angry at myself that day (I still kind of am). 2 customized digital paintings for 1 power cord... I couldn't believe how much I was underselling myself (I knew I was before but... I didn't think people would commission me otherwise) and I just got terribly upset. I'm sorry, I'm usually not like this but I've been under a lot of pressure.
Next round (round 2) digital paintings will be $8 and there will only be 3 slots! Every round after that I add 50 cents. So Round 3 will be $8.50.
Waitlisters: I'm terribly sorry but I will have to pull everybody off of the waitlist. Which is only 3, but still. I'm having a really terrible time lately and as much as I love everybody for wanting to commission me, it's something I need to do.

If waitlisters want, they can reserve a spot early for the $8 commissions. I'll send you all a note, just in case.

Bartering "payment" option
Posted 14 years agoI added a bartering payment option which can be found on my pages ToS under "payments" (http://bohyu.weebly.com/terms-of-service.html). I have an amazon (private for now) wishlist. They are all basically items that I really want.
I have a separate wishlist of life essentials but that's just for me and I buy those myself x)
Item value does not have to equal the exact value of the commission. It can even be a little less than the commission price.
Would you want to see my wishlist or do you think it would be alright if I kept it private until somebody specifically asked to barter?

$5 Digitial Paintings... for $8?
Posted 14 years ago$5 digital paintings were quite popular but would people still be interested in them if I made the second round worth $8 a piece instead of $5? I ask this because I'm working well below minimum wage for something that I think is pretty good and it's not like I'm using bases. Thoughts?

All slots are filled for now and I might open them up again soon but I don't want to feel too overwhelmed and I don't want people to expect to wait a long time for me to get their commission done because there are many others ahead of them.

I planned on moving in with my sister and her fiance (really soon) and I would only have to pay cheap rent. Well, they recently split up so I can't do that anymore...
Now me and my sister have to get an apartment together. Problem is, I only have $500 to my name. I don't have a job and I live in the middle of nowhere. I mean, it's impossible to get a job here. I've been saving up commission money specifically for rent. Now it's going to cost a whole lot more for me especially since I'll have to move 45min-1hr away and find a new job. I plan on trying to find a job around here but like I said, It's pretty impossible and I've tried before.
My parents aren't going to help and I'm not even thinking of asking my sister to help me.
I seriously don't know what I'm going to do. I'm freaking out about it.
So if anybody could help me out by commissioning me then that would be super great and much appreciated!

I will be giving free art (headshot/waist-up sketches; possibly more) to those who recommend/feature me in their journal. However, there are only two ways you can get free art:
1. The personal you recommend me to must pay for a commission from me :)
2. I will randomly pick people who recommends/features me. You will have to post a link to your journal with visual references to whatever you want me to draw.
Make sure you let them know that you referred them to me! Otherwise I will just think that they are normally commissioning me.
Journals must be up and present for at least 3 days and you must be a watcher!
