Posted 12 years agoContinuing in our series of half-drunken otters and their other semi-sober animal friends watching Star Wars films and talking about them, your host
kmhirosaki brings you the next installment in the saga with Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.
Biggest thanks go to
buckhopper for being the one to actually make this magic happen. Without him, this would have simply been months of K.M. blabbering on about how he wants to drink and watch Star Wars (so really, like a usual day for him).
The otter's journal has more specific details for the setup here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4174637/

K.M. Hirosaki and Friends Watch Star Wars!
Posted 13 years agoGreetings, listeners!
Our ottery host
kmhirosaki sat down with some friends (along with the nifty recording engineer
buckhopper) to get some conversation recorded during a viewing of the Star Wars films. In some of them, he's even sober!
The first of these, for the original 1977 classic, is up now! Details at the otter's journal here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4036154/

Ahem. Hey! Another Unsheathed, back in the bunker, talking about all the great things that are going to happen this fall, what with the books and conventions and all. Oh, the fun we have! This episode is 93 although Kit is deprecating numbered episodes of Unsheathed, sort of. Find out why! Or maybe don't! We will talk about writing, though, that is for sure!

More Unsheathed Updates!
Posted 13 years agoSo, as some of you may have noticed, we have in fact been making strides in crawling up out of the darkness to get the show back to you, our faithful viewers. In addition to the two new live episodes and the bunker episode that went up last week, we've got more recordings already in the can, which you should hopefully see soon ("soon" in this case meaning "within a matter of days" and not "in the next few months," we swear!).
Also, your intrepid hosts have continued doing live shows on Livestream! Our account is at www.livestream.com/unsheathed , and watch our Twitter feeds to see when we'll be broadcasting live (usually it's on Mondays, but it's not every Monday). Also, if you check out that account, you can see the five (yes, five!) episodes we've got archived for your listening/viewing pleasure, if the other mainstream episodes haven't sated you enough.
ALSO also, we'll be doing a live show at RainFurrest 2012 at the end of the month! As always, stay tuned on Twitter to see when and where we'll actually be performing, and be sure to swing on by to see Kyell, K.M., and Bucket, and help commemorate Unsheathed's original live venue!
Lastly, as a more minor thing, the WikiFur entry for our show has been updated as well, to reflect the current status of the show and to catalogue the various special guests and live performances we've had in the last year or so.

Unsheathed Live at RMFC
Posted 13 years agoHey, we have another episode up after only five months! It's our live RMFC recording from two-ish weeks ago. Fun recording; we are a little rusty but K.M. has his bucket and we have the karaoke next door to keep us entertained. For once Kyell does not go off on a rant about how awesome the fandom is, but nobody asked.

Unsheathed LiveStream #1!
Posted 13 years agoHey! For those of you who've missed us, Unsheathed will be back on Livestream tonight (Monday, May 28) at 7 pm Pacific time (http://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?Pacific/d/-8). K.M. and I will be live on audio, maybe video, and we will take your questions in the chat room and answer them on air. We'll be doing this first one for about half an hour. If it goes well and there's demand, we may extend the times.
If you can't make it, Livestream records the episodes, and we'll announce times when we're playing them back.
The channel is http://www.livestream.com/unsheathed, of course!

Posted 13 years agoJust in time for us to head back to Seattle (for Emerald City Comic-Con), it's our Live at RainFurrest episode, volume 3! We love going back to RF as they were the first con to put on our live show, and it's always a fun time.
2011 was no exception! K.M. drinks wine from a plastic bucket, Kyell goes on a rant about the second person in writing, we form a writing critique group RIGHT THERE IN THE ROOM, and we miss our faithful snow leopard artist
zavian. It's a wild time and you won't want to miss it!

kmhirosaki and
kyell kick back and talk about writing: why they do what they do.
Also, Kyell talks about looking forward to FWA, which he is winging his way to today, so it's a timely release!

We have a few episodes still in production. Kit has been a harried wolf this summer--please give him a little time to get the episodes all fancy and pretty for your enjoyment. In the meantime we will be recording more in coming weeks and we are counting up to the live show at RainFurrest which will--as always--be epic and wonderful.

Posted 14 years agoSorry for the delay, but Unsheathed #83 has finally gone live. Tech Wolf will be working on #84 and #85 as soon as he returns to the mountain bunker. Until then, enjoy a new episode where Kyell and K.M. talk about showing vs. telling, as well as the importance of knowing when to add detail to a scene. As a bonus, Kyell takes a Coke Zero break and lets Kit and K.M talk about wine! Enjoy!

Unsheathed Update
Posted 14 years agoHey, thanks for all the notes about Unsheathed. We are continuing the podcast, but due to a recent spate of busy-ness, we are a little behind on production. There will be a KnotSheathed at RMFC which may go up under the Unsheathed feed or the Knotcast feed or both; there will be an Unsheathed or two produced in August, and there will be a live Unsheathed show at RainFurrest in September (and of course regular episodes in September). Because of Comic-Con, we will be missing a couple recording weekends in July, but we will be resuming in due course. Fear not, and thanks for your patience.

Snippet #1:
Glass [working title]
“What’ll it be sir?
“Whiskey, neat.”
“What kind?”
“Well.”
“Four Dollars.”
The exchange, accompanied by a squat glass of amber rotgut sliding across the bar, was just another reminder that the cougar was not welcome in this bar. The cougar was expressionless as he sipped his fourth whiskey of the evening, the bartender setting his change directly in front of him. An outsider would not recognize the affront, at least not until he had seen it repeated, over and over again. Four times a visit, five days a week this very exchange occurred. It was a message sent by the bartender, that in an establishment where a drink could be ordered with a raised eyebrow and an imperceptible nod, that no matter how much whiskey he drank, this cougar would not be a regular. The title “sir” was another barb in a bar where everyone else was “hey you”, “bub” or “you ‘ol sonuvabitch”. In the six months of clockwork neat whiskeys, neither fur had asked or offered a name.
It was an accident of need and geography that kept the cougar coming back, this bar being the furthest away from work he could stand before stopping. It was also convenient to the package store on the walk back to his apartment. He drained the last sip of whiskey and slid the glass toward the back of the bar, along with the change from his final drink. Standing up, he strode to the door, displaying no effect from the four drinks, save perhaps a slight shift from predatory cat toward inscrutable feline. He left behind his empty glass, on his way to replace it with a full bottle from the package store, en route to his empty apartment.
Snippet #2:
“Listen here, you old ghoul,” Hartford said, pushing himself up from the column and poking his finger into Fairbank's chest. “I know what my people need. I know what this whole empire needs, as a matter of fact. Just you watch. After today, there's no telling what the empire will be capable of.”
Pushing the ferret's hand away from his chest gingerly, Fairbanks said, “Believe what you want, Hartford. I won't stop you. I've been a councilman longer than you've been alive, though, so I would advise you to listen to my words.”
The ferret slouched back against the column, folding his arms and tapping his claws along his elbows. “Whatever you say, sir,” he said. “Why are you here, though? I've never known you to revel in defeat before, and Emperor Nolan didn't force any of the councilmen to attend the proclamation.” He looked warily at the old, smiling rabbit.
