Long Story
Posted 11 years agoSpecifically, I am not posting it because I have given it to my #1 critic and he has said that the prologue is good but needs something to make it more interesting, like a bit more emotion.
I am not surprised he says this, because I did pretty much force myself to write the prologue and my forced writing is usually shit.
I will fix this prologue and then post it here, but I'm not sure when I'll get around to that.
In the meantime you can follow it here http://www.quotev.com/story/4545766.....n-Heroes-Fail/ if you want to read the shitty prologue and the first and second "weekly" iterations which are apparently astoundingly better than the prologue.
Oh! And the current cover sucks, so I am considering finding some artist who would be willing to draw me a cover (for a fee, of course).

Writing and Stuff (2)
Posted 11 years agoThese journals are going to pop up every now and then, be numbered, and only
Tonin is going to read them.
Efficiency!
Anyway, 11 days without a story is way too long so I'm going to write something on the morrow.

Writing and Stuff
Posted 11 years agoSo I have a thing that I'm going to be updating weekly (next week excepted because of exams and assignments ugh) and I kind of want to upload it here but I don't *really* like uploading unfinished stuff. Would you be okay reading stuff that is intended to be consumed as a full, chapterless story in weekly updates?
I also have plans for a short story, and, after I write it, I want to commission an artist because the idea hasn't been done yet and I'm very surprised.

Paper Done! Life is "normal"
Posted 11 years agoAnd so the stress is averted! After pulling an all-nighter on Wednesday night and then sleeping from 7-11am my anthropology paper is finished and my life is back to normal. 3 days of completely submersing myself in texts about Bedouin culture. I can tell you I don't plan on doing that again.
What next? I want to write a long thing about "When Heroes Fail" where I can, first of all, learn organise myself in such a way that I can actually finish longer stories and to provide myself with a place that I can experiment with all sorts of cool things and then get people's feedback on how I did (like writing from a blind character's point of view or trying a more dynamic way of switching point of view, or, even, just finding good ways to physically describe people. I have a lot of trouble with three-segment legs, as in two "oposable knees" or if I even need to differentiate between oposable knees and one regular knee).
All the while I'll be slowly completing "The Price of Tea," but I'm on a fantasy-anthro-adventure kick right now.

Time
Posted 11 years agoIs something I use very stupidly. Wish it weren't a commodity.
Paper due on Thursday, code due on Monday, work all weekend.
Bring it on.
(No I'm just kidding please don't bring it on D: )

Happy Things
Posted 12 years agoI really want to write something
that is purely happy,
but every time I start to plan I realise
"I have no idea how to do happy plots"
and then I just sort of stop. The Silliest Problem Ever
Posted 12 years agoI'm trying to write a one-off story that is actually happy. Of course there is a problem >_<
The story itself is pretty much one of my characters cheering up another one of my characters.
However, I keep thinking that whoever I choose is going to be seen as slightly more awesome than my other characters just because they are making someone who is absolutely miserable no longer feel miserable.
I'm not sure I really want to create a whole new character for this, but I might. I have the story planned out besides this character. I was thinking I may do The Caretaker, but she already has a son that is pretty much a part of her character. I considered my own fursona Quill, but decided I would feel weird about that because I already sort-of did a story like this with him in it. I've even considered Kyne for those of you who have read Husk.
And this is why nothing has been written. I've been scribbling out passages over the last week as I fail to choose a character for this role.
If you would like me to botch I MEAN write (one of) your character(s) in this role then I could try. It would be good practice. This character would need to be calm, patient, and kind. No herbivores, anthro herbivores don't exist in my universe (because of obvious social hierarchy issues that I don't want to focus on)(I'm also a racist bastard :V).
The character being cheered up is the anthro version of Mandy. If you want more details or to suggest one of my characters that you think would work, note me or send me a message on skype (skype name is unwisedragon if you don't want to look at my profile).

Reasons That I Dislike American Spelling
Posted 12 years ago-Color doesn't looks as elegant as Colour.
-All the wavy red lines that happen as I spell stuff how I've always been taught to spell it.
-ism is not izm. Realism --> Realise, Realizm --> Realize
-Sometimes I get a bit confused and mix up my "ise" with my "ize" and then get to have fun editing all of those out.
-It forces me to be all patriotic. "Up with Canada!"

What I Have Been Doing
Posted 12 years ago-Failing to think of anything to write
-Failing to write anything I have already thought of
-Playing too many video games with friends
But if you are Corvus then you already knew that.
I promise I'll figure stuff out eventually :S

Relevant Information
Posted 12 years agoSo, I'm writing a decently long thing.
That's basically been what I've been writing over the time that I haven't posted anything.
I posted the first finished (and horribly unedited) part of it a while back, but the cover art was unrelated to the story so it's ended up in my scraps.
I'm going to have to edit and re-upload that with some cover art that actually suits it...
But the reason it's taken me so long to write is I scrapped three attempts, lost hope for like a month, and then started writing something different before finally figuring out how to progress the story.
I have a list of like one hundred prompts, perhaps I could figure out something for one of those real quick.
Would be a bit of random practice in balancing scene and character description, because I feel like I never find the right balance...
There's also something I want to edit and play with that I tried to turn into a longer thing but failed at around 7k words. Just the first 1.8k will be posted, possibly the next 1.3k depending.
That's stuff.

A Waste of Words
Posted 12 years agoI don't want to write an essay on how trans-regional economic networks had vast and complex consequences on everyday life around the world :'(
I'd much rather write an essay on why it is pointless to write essays...

Irritating
Posted 12 years agoI can't seem to get myself to focus. I tried doing some writing based on song, but found myself just not interested. Two weeks of doing no writing besides a cultural portrait... I can't figure out why I don't want to.
I Have a Story!
Posted 12 years agoBut it needs editing!
It's a counterpart to "The Universe Machine" called "The Universe Dream"
The bare-bones draft has been uploaded to Quotev, you can read it here http://www.quotev.com/story/3969930.....verse-Dream/1/
Unfortunately I'm doing yard work all of tomorrow to prepare for winter, but I should be able to edit on Monday and get it posted here!

A Bunch of Stuff
Posted 12 years agoWhenever I say "I need to get off now" it means I'm going to spend another half hour browsing stuff before getting off.
I'm currently trying to write about four things at once while playing video games, so it's kind of slow going.
My ears were licked by a corgi tonight. Well, technically "last night" since it's nearly 2 am now. First time my ears have been licked.
I also received my first commission! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11921055/

Wondering If People Read This
Posted 12 years agoSo, I have a question for my eight watchers.
Not sure how many of you are actually going to read this.
When I post prose, how edited would you like it to be?
The more editing, the longer it would take to post!
But, obviously, you would get a higher quality of text.

Posted 12 years agoI'm really disappointed when I see that there are no new uploads from those I watch.
Then I look at my last update. *Last week.*
Then I stop being disappointed and just feel sheepish.

Art and Thoughts
Posted 12 years agoSo, I've been thinking a little. It has to do with popularity, and has no doubt been said before. I'm just saying it now so you can read it and be reminded.
Straight to the point: visual artists get a lot of attention. Pictures are easily understood and don't require a massive amount of time to view and appreciate. It's quick, easy, and on to the next wonderful masterpiece.
Writers... not so much. That investment is a larger amount of time, sometimes days. Even then, words aren't nearly as easily understood as pictures are and it can take many reads to truly understand a piece, and the words aren't always entertaining enough to warrant a second read.
Musicians, good luck. I've had the pleasure of taking music in highschool for four years, so here is the most important thing I've learned in that time: complicated music isn't popular, popular music isn't complex. There are almost no exceptions to this rule. Music requires an almost irritating amount of dedications and effort to truly understand. That consists of either hundreds or even thousands of listens, or a few weeks (or months) of fairly intensive training.
Basically, I'm saying that writing and music often isn't worth the effort unless someone is sure the piece will actually be good because it takes so much effort to really appreciate it. So it takes a hell of a lot more skill and tact for a writer or musician to become popular than it does for a visual artist.
Uhm... before you flip the hell out at me for calling art simple you need to consider this: I'm not a visual person. I don't draw or do anything related that delights the physical eye. I sort of see visual arts as the simplest art form because, while it takes a heck of a lot of effort, I don't see it as complex because I don't understand the visual arts and rather enjoy my ignorance.
Please don't rage at me for saying that :'( I'm just a writer/musician, have mercy! I'm just restating the observation that it's hard to have lots of people read my stuff because it takes so much more effort to read a story than it does to look at a picture >_<

The Musings of an Unwise Dragon - Power
Posted 12 years agoOriginally written February 20, 2013
Aha! I have finally decided to post some more of my musings. Partially because there is a cat sitting on me as I write and I don't want to disturb her. I be here to present the ever-used idea that all protagonists who have been granted some amazing power want with all their being to be normal or be less powerful.
This was going to be a rant against this, but I'll write from both sides. Before I begin to write on this subject, I need to give my own views on the subject. I desperately wish to be different in any way. Not the usual tiny differences. I want to be so completely unlike anyone else that everyone can't help but gawk at my difference. That's how I usually feel. I suppose, given power, I would be very giddy indeed.
Some people with power would very much like to get rid of it. It is the lust of the unknown that drives them so, driving them on toward the new experiences. They wish to be explorers of the norm; letting someone else carry the burden of the world. Sometimes this is justified. If their power is so amazingly destructive or... ah... inconvenient...(Kahlan Amnell) that they must live a life ostracized for fear of destroying everything they love. These people are completely justified in wanting to be normal. But we need people with this because, as humans, we can't help but fuck everything up.
That is part of the reason people who want to be normal are strange to me. Being one who is so attracted to difference, I would hate to be normal. Heck, I don't even like being human. I usually try to bash people who want to be normal but can't be whenever I write at any opportunity I can. Just like I bash fate and biology, but those can be for totally different musings.
Now for the characters I can relate to the most. The characters who are different and relish it. There can be nothing greater for them than being more powerful than everyone else. They flourish in a leadership role and live for power. The thought of being normal is abhorrent to them; a disease of the body that renders them weak and unable. Interestingly enough, these characters tend to be villains. There is this cool thing that has been hammered into the minds of everyone that involves equality. It's a very good thing, and these characters tend to not enjoy being equal. This is seen as evil sometimes.
Actually, Darius is a good example of this. A cool thing you might not know is that Darius (my lovely little black dragon) is an anti-villain. He has power and knows it, and is not afraid to use it. While he is defending a defenseless pale creature, he is doing it because he views it as his pet. We stop our pets from being killed because we want a companion. Not because they will offer us anything, but because we would feel a little worse without them. Power is the greatest feeling for him. Eh... I haven't really developed this in him yet... so... spoiler! You can probably see the beginnings of his love for power every time he fights.
So, those are my musings. I hope you enjoyed reading them. There is probably no order to them.
