I'm going to be working for several nights this week, so I'll be pretty scarce in the upcoming week. I haven't received my work schedule yet for the next four weeks, but I'm hoping that I get at least one day off after the night shift streak. Night shift is probably my least favorite out of anything I'm assigned at work just because I'm pretty much the only person at the lab capable of running the machines. It's pretty nerve wracking.

UPDATE: So it turns out I'll be working seven consecutive nights. After that, I'll have four days off.

Is it just me or do quite a few popular artists really, really like to fish for compliments? Is the reason why they have such a vocal following is that they frequently ask for it, or vice-versa? I generally don't like being vocal about my self-loathing (or anything much, really), but I keep rolling my eyes every time I see an artist with a very profound following shunning their own work or being surprised that their commissions get taken up in, like, five seconds in a journal.

It seems pretty insulting that some (keyword) artists on FA with thousands of fans keep perpetuating the whole "Oh I'm not really that good" attitude, even when the fans are always in public disagreement. I mean, it's one thing to be modest, but there's a point in time when denouncing one's own work is merely spouting nonsense for the sake of a compliment.

I'm not going to give names because I forgot to pack my shitstorm gear, but it seems that artists with fans in the quadruple digits should be careful about what they're saying. It makes some of those who haven't even broken the triple-digit barrier to feel like garbage (cough) when people who have thousands of fans consider their artwork "bad". This isn't a journal about why artists should never ever ever ever ever EVER feel bad. I'm just tired of seeing it in public displays obviously meant to bait some validation.

As if it was somehow possible, I'm going to be even more scarce for the next five days, including today. I've been working a 7-on, 7-off shift since Thursday, and I'll be working ten to twelve hour work days until the next Thursday. On the upside, I'll have four days off once it's over. Today will be my last twelve-hour day, so the rest of the seven days will be ten-hour shifts.

I would've made a journal back when the shift first started, but it just completely slipped my mind.

No sir, didn't like it.

As a parrot aficionado, I watched the movie expecting to like it. Hell, I tried to like it, but the writing kept falling short of what I was expecting. Sure, the humor was spot on a few times, but the awkward dialogue and really irritating characters dragged the movie down. The villains ranged from being complete dumbasses to just irritable. Seriously, within the first couple of lines of his dialogue, the main villain bird broke out into a rap song about how he's such a psychotic badass.

However, there are some things that Rio did very well. The character designs and backgrounds were excellent, and the animation was fluid and very detailed. The only thing I could find that bothered me was that every fat guy in the movie had almost the same face. That might just be me though.

(I just want to bump off the old journal about my dead Tumblr account I haven't had the time to set aside for. I typed up a review for Rango too but wound up losing it to the internet aether. I didn't feel like typing it out again. In a nutshell, Rango was really good, but I'm more than willing to say why if anybody wants me to explain about it further.)

I went with the Minimalist theme because I have no idea what I'm doing.

I'm not 100% back yet, but I feel like the last journal should be bumped off. I can still submit sketches and maybe some completed works, but I'm currently in training for my new job. I don't have nearly as much time to myself as I used to, but a job's a job. The other lab technicians and I have it fairly easy over here though, especially on weekdays.

I've been feeling a real lack of it in regards to posting things on FA. I've rarely logged on for the past couple of months, and I didn't think I needed to update this profile. The local hospital just hired me as an MLT, so I've been preparing for the transition.

In summation, I'll be on indefinite hiatus.

My hard drive came in about a couple of days ago, and I'm still in the process of getting everything on my computer back to the way it was. I've sent the old hard drive back, and everything should be in proper order by the end of the week. I CAN MAKE ARTS AND DO PROJECTS AGAIN.

On a different aside, I'm nearing the end of my rotation, but I'm taking another week or so for it to make up for lost days. However, I don't have to do any more school work aside from preparing for the registry to become a full-fledged MLT.

I haven't even owned this computer for more than a year, and now I'm getting a message that the SMART system discovered a problem with my hard drive. It says that the hard drive may fail in the near future, and I contacted a Dell representative about it. He's telling me to backup everything, and he'll mail me a new hard drive to install free of charge. Until then, which is about 3 to 5 business days, I'll be unable to do too much aside from browsing the internet.

My coloring skills(?) have been fooled for the longest time! It seems I can't differentiate between certain reds and greens.

It turns out my instructor didn't anticipate a few of the hospital staff taking a few weeks off for vacation, so I'll have to move out of town temporarily. Instead of working at the hospital, I'll be training with United Blood Services about a hundred miles away. My sister lives nearby, so I'll be moving in with her. However, her internet is through an AllTel card or something (I still need to research what that is), so I may not be able to post anything new for the next week or two.

On an aside, today I got to live the 7 year old's dream of eating birthday cake for breakfast. The people who work at the hospital over here bought me a cake and insisted on having it during morning break. It was kickass because strawberry ice cream cake is my favorite.

If I open up the "Name Your Price" commissions, who would be interested in buying one from me?

I'll open them if enough people respond. Otherwise, well, I can respond to whoever wanted them and just settle everything through notes or PMs.

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I've been pretty swamped with school and applying for student positions in just about every hospital in this area. Bureaucracy is a pain in the ass. Finals are over at last, so now I'll finally have a relatively free weekend.

HOWEVER

Starting this Monday, I need to go on rotation in different sections of the hospital laboratories for job experience. I have 8-hour shifts to go to without pay, and there is a packet with 100 questions regarding each section of the laboratory. There are at least 5 different lab sections, and I only have 11 weeks to answer all of these questions. Once that is done though, I'll be able to apply for a regular Medical Lab Technician job.

So I may be even less talkative than before during that time span. It depends on how busy the hospitals get and if I can answer my question packets during my shift.

I may do a livestream or something this weekend now that I have free time. It's more probable that I'll just submit sketches and other works in progress.

Being the birdfag that I am, I'm trying to beat Pokemon HeartGold with an all Flying-type army for a change of pace. Even if I wasn't setting up a challenge for myself, I'd find this game remarkably refreshing. I love the wild Pokemon music this time.

In immunology class, everybody was discussing how the body reacts to certain microorganisms. One of the subjects covered was syphilis and how spinal taps can be done to confirm cases of syphilis. The instructor talked about a time she was on rotation, and one of the residents was trying to confirm a case of syphilis on a baby. The resident found out about the syphilis testing the cord blood of the baby, so the resident went ahead with the spinal tap before checking anything else (i. e. the mother's blood).

Anyway, long story short, a resident performed an unnecessary spinal tap on a baby.
