Posted 7 years agoWe needed to better represent ourselves. Calling ourselves the Upstate NY Furs was just too broad of a group name. So we are transitioning into our new home as the NY Capital Region Furs. The Capital Region for us consists of: Albany, Troy, Schenectady, and Saratoga.
Why is this page shutting down and moving? We will do our best to explain.
Let's give a little bit of a backstory first:
When I moved here in 2014, I didn't know anyone and didn't know anything about any local fur communities. In 2015, I got online one day and met a local fur who had the same issues as I did. And we started hanging out for a few months. It was a great time! But we thought that if we found each other, there must be other furs out in our area of Schenectady and Albany. So we got together one day, sat down, and planned this whole group out. We couldn't find a community, so we decided to make our own and see what we could grow. We learned that there were lots of others in the area just like us! All wanting to hang out and go do fun things together with other furs, but didn't want to travel out of the area to attend meets or weren't able to make it out to conventions. So we welcomed those local furs with open arms. One of our first planned events was attending Chase Comic Con together in Saratoga as a group. It was really nice. Word started to spread about our group and we grew with even more members. We had meets like Picnics, Escape Rooms, Dinner meets, Pool Parties, Movie days. It was very pleasant. We were very happy to bring this to our local fur community. The Upstate NY Furs was and still is one of the best things to happen around this area. And I can't thank it's members enough for their hard work and contributions to the group and the events. We had so many good times, a lot of hardships, and a lot of small issues, but we all worked through it together. We were all a small family.
We started to grow and gain more members. And since Upstate is very broad, we had a ton of people joining our group from outside our area. Some a bit farther than others. The way we did our early meets was through polls and voting. However, some members skewed the votes a bit since they weren't from our area and that threw off some of the balance of the votes that actually counted. So meets in some areas were downvoted by people who were from Watertown or Syracuse or places farther away from us. We did have a very dedicated member from Syracuse, and they attended almost every meet. I do appreciate their efforts a lot, they were incredibly friendly.
So, getting back to the point of this Journal.
This group was originally founded to host events, meets, and general hangouts for members of the Albany, Troy, Schenectady, and Saratoga areas. That is the Capital Region. Upstate NY was just too broad of an area and we had members that wondered why we didn't have events in their area of Upstate. It's unfortunate that we couldn't expand farther out. But the group was created so that the Local furs of the Capital Region didn't have to travel any great distances to hang out or attend meets. So now we are trying to work to better represent the Capital Region.
We also have transitioned our Telegram group from the Upstate NY Furs to the NY Capital Region Furs. To be more centralized on our area specifically. The Telegram group is a tool for the furs in the immediate local area to be able to plan events and chat with local furs in a safe atmosphere. Which is why we ask for the area which you are from upon joining. There are other chats out there for New York, but this group is geared more towards the immediate Albany/Schenectady/Troy/Saratoga areas. Generally 30 mins to an hour away from our immediate area is fairly acceptable.
We hope you understand the need for this transition. We are trying to work towards a more efficient local group that is true to it's original purpose in bringing the Capital Region together.

Info for the month of May~New Changes are Coming! =D

Originally, the meet for the month of May was going to be Chase Comic Con (As we did last year). Looks like some of our group will still be attending the comic con. Those who do, please take lots of pictures and have a great time! =D
There has been a slight delay in the planning of the official meet for the month of May. But fret not! I have a list of some fun events happening around the upstate area during the month of May!

My apologies for a late announcement on the next meet, but here it is!

Do you enjoy anime, sci-fi, and games? Are you a master of children's card games? A board game connoisseur? Do you like cosplaying as your favorite character or suiting up as your Fursona? Then this meet has a little of everything for everyone!
The next meet is going to be a fun one! Genericon in Troy at RPI! This convention lasts over a period of 3 days. It begins Friday March 3rd in the evening and goes to Sunday March 5th. There's many events and pannels for all to enjoy.
Things such as:
Cosplay competitions-deathbattles, cosplay chess,
24-hour Gaming room- room filled with game consoles and controllers for all to enjoy
Artist Alley- full of art pannels and art vendors
Merch!- Tons of vendors selling cool stuffs!
Gaming-Board games and card games and pokemon leagues
As you can see, there's a ton to do! And since it spans over a period of 3 days, there are some good opportunities of meeting up with friends and having a great time making new friends! ^_^

Hope everyone has been fairing well! It's that time again to announce the next meet! December was a bit hectic for everyone, but we all made it through the craziness and ushered in a brand new year! Let's make it a fantastic year for sure!
Right now, the meet for January will take place on Saturday, January 28th at Crossgates Mall in Albany, NY at 3pm.
Prepare yourselves for a day of fun, food, and friends!
Ever been to ancient Egypt? Considered taking on a Dragon? How about taking over a mission in Space? Then 5 Wits is the place for you!
5 Wits is a state of the art, theatrical Escape the Room with 3 different themes, all of which can be done in half an hour each. The best deal is $30 per person, but that grants you entry into all 3 rooms. Otherwise, it is 19.99 for a single room.
Groups can be up to 12 people per room. It can be a timing contest if all participants want to see who can solve each room in record time.
If Escaping Rooms aren't your thing, then fear not! There is a Dave and Busters right across the hall and down the corridor! There, everyone can enjoy playing some games together like air hockey, trivia, skeeball, and other various arcade games! So there's lots to do for everyone. :3
Food options can be decided upon by the group or groups. There is a Johnny Rockets in the same wing, a decent sized food court upstairs, and some other smaller places as well if you just want a coffee. (Food is optional)
Initial meeting location can be in the front of the 5 Wits venue, and we can see where it goes from there!
If only a select few are interested in the 5 Wits experience, we can have that group meet a little earlier so that the rooms can be done and hanging at Dave and Busters and sharing a meal together can also take place.
More details to come, so if something changes, we will let you know!

November Fur Meet!

Thanks for everyone making it to our Halloween movie night! It was a great evening filled with some good flicks, laughter, and who could forget all that candy! But alas, October has come to a close. With the month of spooky ghosts and silly skeletons behind us, it's time to take a moment to announce the information for our next meet!
For the month of November, our meet will take place at Crossgates Mall on Saturday the 19th.
Do you enjoy heroism? Do you find the realm of mysticism fascinating? Do you like movies? Do you like games? Then this meet is for you!
On Saturday, November the 19th, we will be going as a group to see Doctor Strange! And be sure to hang around after the movie for some socializing at Dave and Buster's! For those who'd like to stick around, the evening will be filled with air hockey and other games!
This is a placeholder post until we post more information about the meet since the movie show times are not currently available for that Saturday. We'll be sure to keep you updated on any more information! Your patience is greatly appreciated! Stay Fuzzy! (And scaly too! Or whatever your texture may be!)

A bit of a clarification is needed. It has come to our attention that another group is posting a separate group's meet information within our group's member pages. To Avoid any confusion on any of our meets, and to ensure that our meet information is represented and distributed clearly and easily, this group only operates on this FurAffinity Page, Twitter Page, and the associated Telegram group. We are not in association with any other sites or groups at this time, but when/if we do, there will be a journal discussing our expansion.
Thank you for all your cooperation and understanding at this time. It is greatly appreciated! Keep an eye out for future meet information here! =D

I hope you all are enjoying the cooler weather, the changing of the leaves and the pumpkin flavored everything!
We are ready to announce our next group fur meet! I hope you all like scary movies candy and pumpkins because that’s what’s all in store for you up state furs!
Saturday October 22nd starting at 5pm we will be meeting at a local furs place to watch a double feature film and enjoy other fall activities. We will be putting up one light hearted scary movie and then later on in the evening a more scary and gory movie. Depending if that’s what you guys want. We are taking movie suggestions and if you have a personal favorite maybe even bring it and we can vote on it when you get there.
We are also going to have a pumpkin carving event so you can carve your pumpkin with other furry friends while we wait for it to get dark. You can bring your own pumpkin or if you remember to bring 5 dollars to reserve a pumpkin for yourself we will have it for you to have fun with! Please let us know ahead of time if you want us to have a pumpkin ready for you!
Bring your favorite candy to share with everyone. Popcorn and apples will be provided for everyone!
The location of the fur meet will be disclosed on a date that’s closer to the event. It will be at a private home address so I can’t put it up here. You will get it the day before. However it will be in city of East Berne to give you an idea of where it will take place.
Please come, bring a friend, bring a costume, and bring a scary movie or your favorite candy!
Show off your carving skills or how tough you are to watch really scary gross movies! We want you fuzziest to come and enjoy the Halloween season: 3
TL; DR
Who: furs in the upstate area or anyone whose fur friendly
What: spooky movies, pumpkin carving (with a 5 dollar cover for the pumpkins or bring your own) candy and fun

Saturday October 22nd starting at 5pm we will be meeting at a local furs place to watch a double feature film and enjoy other fall activities. We will be putting up one light hearted scary movie and then later on in the evening a more scary and gory movie. Depending if that’s what you guys want. We are taking movie suggestions and if you have a personal favorite maybe even bring it and we can vote on it when you get there.
We are also going to have a pumpkin carving event so you can carve your pumpkin with other furry friends while we wait for it to get dark. You can bring your own pumpkin or if you remember to bring 5 dollars to reserve a pumpkin for yourself we will have it for you to have fun with! Please let us know ahead of time if you want us to have a pumpkin ready for you!
Bring your favorite candy to share with everyone. Popcorn and apples will be provided for everyone!
The location of the fur meet will be disclosed on a date that’s closer to the event. It will be at a private home address so I can’t put it up here. You will get it the day before. However it will be in city of East Berne to give you an idea of where it will take place.
Please come, bring a friend, bring a costume, and bring a scary movie or your favorite candy!

First off our buddies down in the big city have asked me to announce that they are having a big birthday barbecue Bash. The great escape is an amusement park that has roller coasters and other crazy fun rides in addition to full waterpark. So it will give you guys more options to do things. If you wanna swim or scream your tail off on a crazy coaster. We are going to try and get a big enough group together to get a group rate. If we can rope together 15 people together we can get tickets for $37 dollars each. Until I have 15 confirmed goers though the regular price is $53 to get into the park. Something else to note is that it costs to park your car in the park. So we wanna try and minimize the cost by taking as few cars as possible. I will keep everyone updated on how many people are coming and if we can lower the cost. So please! Everyone come! We can lower the cost!! :3

This month has proven to be very tricky, with plans falling through or organized events just failing to meet expectations or people getting married and graduating all over the place! How dare you all achieve such great things :P
This month we are organizing an event to have some family fun!
Now hold up, I know what your thinking: That sounds lame and is for babies. But do babies get to climb rock walls, play laser tag, and race go karts all day with all their furry friends? I don't think so!
This months meet will be held on June 18th at 3pm at Adventure Family fun Center in the beautiful Lake George. This place has air conditioning to keep people cool during the sweltering summer heat as well as cool lit laser tag, bumper cars, go karts, rock wall, an arcade, and even a drop tower.
We are hoping to get the group rate where we can get everyone in for 25 dollars each for unlimited laser tag, bumper cars, rock wall and 2 runs on the go karts for three hours. We just need 20 people to get that group rate. Please contact myself at Spunky_Shep or swiftbrowneyes to RSVP so we can get the discounted price.

Do you like sharing your favorite dish with people? Do you like running around outside in the beautiful parks? Do you like smacking your best friend in the face with a huge water balloon?...well I got some great news for everyone because:
Its time to announce the the next big fur meet for all you guys to come share a good time and wag those tails!
Sunday, May 15th, we will be having a POTLUCK PICNIC FIELD DAY!
Each person will bring a portion of a meal and share with your new and old furry friends.
We will be making a list of attendees and the dish/drink/items they will be bringing with them. Please inform myself Spunkyshep or SwiftBrownEyes before you decide to just show up empty handed or bring something that someone has already voluenterred to bring. we dont need everyone bringing a pack of 500 forks :P
If you have food allergies please tell us sooner rather than later so we can make an announcement to all who are planing on bringing a dish. we do not want anyone choking on peanut butter ruining your fun day in the park :P
Please keep in mind that this is public event with minors and alcholoic beverages are not allowed on the park grounds anyway.
In addition to having an awesome pot luck we have several games planed for you all and other activites to keep you all busy. If you have field games you would like to bring please just let us know and we will figure out a way to work it in.
We are also planing on having a waterballoon and squirt gun battle at the park. So please make sure that you dont mind getting wet, bring an extra set of clothes to change into, or at the very least a towel. Maybe we can split into teams and have at it!
The event will be held at 12 noon on that Sunday at Freedom Park in Scotia NY. Very near Schenectady. We'll add an address soon! But feel free to arrive early for setup if you wish!
Suits and dogs are allowed at the park so if you feel like suiting up for a day and or bringing your FRIENDLY dog to enjoy the day please feel free to do so! :3

Posted 9 years agoInterested in going to go see Zootopia with a bunch of other crazy animal people? Well I got news for you! The first official New York Fur gathering will be meeting up to watch the furry fun movie on March 12th at regal movie theaters in Colonie center mall. I wanted to rent a whole theater for the event, but for the first meeting and lack of funds we will just have to meet there and all sit together!
The movie theater has not released movie times at this time (since the movie isn’t out yet) but I will give the times before the movie is released.

From Route I-90 simply connect to I-87 North and exit almost immediately at Exit 2E, Wolf Road.
Proceed straight through the stoplight at the end of the exit ramp. You will be on Wolf Road.
Colonie Center will be on the right.
From the West
Take I-90 East (NYS Thruway).
Get off at Exit 24, Albany.
Once through the Toll Plaza, take Exit 1N for the Adirondack Northway, I-87.
Stay in RIGHT LANE and take Exit 2E, Wolf Road.
Proceed straight through the stoplight at the end of the exit ramp. You will be on Wolf Road.
Colonie Center will be on the right.
