I want to help this convention get off on the right foot. This might be the only year where I'm a hard core volunteer but you never now.

Posted 12 years agoIts a noticeable change because I'm happy to say I have a mate! I met Rina at the MNFurs Fall picnic and we basically enjoyed each other's company. Things connected and I happy to have someone who I can hold and cuddle. I love you Rina!

My mentor in music passed away...kind of a memorandum
Posted 12 years agoI haven't felt grief in a long time, a real long time. But it hit today when news reached my that my highschool orchestra director passed away. I never thought it would be this soon, I seriously never though it would have been this soon. He was my mentor in my art playing the violin for 6 years. That's still over a quarter of my life that I have lived. He introduced me to many directions of where I could take my violin playing skills. From being privileged to play through The Carnival of The Animals to being able to play renditions of Led Zeppelin's Kasmire. He even took the orchestra to Mexico for a tour, and that was a trip to remember in both the good and the ugly, but we pulled through. I got the opportunity to play a the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, that is hallowed religious ground...And even had trips to see live performances of Mozart's Requiem (nothing beats that performance live) to even the Minnesota Orchestra playing from The Lord of the Rings original score. That man showed me that music is unlike any other art, and that it can even be pushed into new directions.
I really wanted to see him at my class reunion, tell him I still play. But I guess every time I pick up my violin, I'll be giving him a show no matter where he is. He'll be missed greatly. Here's to you buddy, and everything you taught me.

Stand tall for the beast...gonna need help writing stories
Posted 12 years agoI just found some music that kind of inspired me to get back into writing, and I kind of want to get into it hard core. The thing is that it's painful typing it out. So I admit.
But the song (introduced to me by Bioshock Infinite) is Beast by Nico Vega, and it introduced a backwoods kind a fella named Excaliber (yes another play on words), big guy, reminds me of one of my real life friends who was a soldier himself. But Excaliber is a polar bear, mated to a lovely girl (need a species, not too unique, he's old fashioned) and has a pet wolf (feral) who he saved after a former friend of his shot it.
Long and short of it, I'm going to need some software, so I'm gonna have to get Dragon.

Gaming story: Defending Helms Deep
Posted 13 years agoThat's right I defended Helms Deep, singlehandedly...except it Uruk-hai...and I had guns...BUT IT WAS AWESOME!
So yesterday I was bored being stuck at my Tech College and I was trying to find something to do. Now the tech college has network programming and computer programming so they are a hell of a lot smarter at network management which means I can't play multiplayer on games like Far Cry 3 which I would love to. But then I looked on the Steam Workshop for Killing Floor and I saw Helms Deep. I downloaded it and later I was standing on the walls of Helms Deep. That's where I got into character.
"Get the wounded into the sanctum," I shouted to the people of Rohan, "And bar the door, don't let anyone in. These are not uruk-hai any more."
The white wizard turned towards me and, "We had our fight but now its yours, I have tools for you laid all over the walls." He reached into his robe and pulled out an AK-47 and cracked a small smile "and something tells me that this belongs to you. The trader is to the right of the doors and down the stairs," he gestured with the staff.
As a steampunk commando, I had everything I needed to get me through but when I reached the upper wall I found a couple pipe bombs to begin with. I laid them down; one to the side of the stairs within the upper wall, and one on top of the lower wall.
As I fought through all the clots, bloats and gorefasts, I knew that this won't be too difficult. Then the next wave started, I switched to an M4 and a Tommy Gun. Funny how the resident evil 4 trader ended up in Middle Earth but that's a different story. But I noticed that things were growing slightly difficult when the husks arrived, these bad boys shot back at you, not arrows liek the uruk-hai, or bullets like myself, but fireballs! That and the stalkers gave me a surprise, the invisible women came up behind me as I picked off the zeds on the lower wall. I turned around and wasted them with the tommy gun.
I fought through a few more waves upgrading my arsenal, then came the first flesh pound came along. I was in a bad place, he came through the upper wall and I was empty on both my Mk42b and my FAL after taking down a scrake. As I turned around I had the "OH ****!" moment as I tried to finish reloading. The I saw an explosion and a cloud of blood...the pipe bomb.
Okay, out of the story it was fun, the pipebomb moment was actually a godsend and I'll remember that. But taking down patriarch wasn't too bad, it was normal, but next time I'll get the 'more players' mutator on so I can have more difficult waves, that way I utilize the entire map. Anyways, have fun, I'll try and post more gaming shorts.

A number a double edged swords about me
Posted 13 years agoThis is somthing I kind of need to get out of my system because there are ominous feelings about the air about me. There are a number of double edge sword abilities about me, my ADD, my creativity, but today the one that is showing the most is my empathy.
I was talking with one of my friends and I brought up an issue and the thing is that when I learned that said friend (who we must say is known for empathy) has the same feelings on the issue. This kind of says to me "You are an empath, congratulations." You see, the thing is I see whats going to happen down the line but I can't even say a damn word about whats going to happen. But I'm trying to learn how to trust these feelings. But all in all, from what I can say, empathy is a good thing, but it sucks at the same time.
Life is life, fecal matter happens. All we can do is deal with it.

MFF, first furry con, won't be the last
Posted 13 years agoSo I know I haven't gotten a journal out in some time, but I should. But life, Borderlands, Assassin's Creed, some work, Cards Against Humanity, and programming classes...and Killing Floor....AND my good friends....AND, okay I'll shut up about life in general. But ya know. But I did go to MFF.
My roomates were:
Zionzoostudio (Bakie)...The new con addict (once ya go furry you can never go back) and a first timer
crediblemyth...Fat fur fan and also a frist timer and lover of many fursuits, dances, and awesome gal
TwistedWarrior...the veteran, and the primary driver, and the one who knows what's what at the con
Auracle...Another first timer and also all around scapegoat for anything that goes wrong, except for the fire extinguisher incident early Morning
Kerima babe...The non-fur but furry fan and an awesome person to hang around with, and also another first timer.
So the things I did was rock out on Rock Band, getting a taste of drums (I wanna try them again, hopefully we'll have a set at Bakie's place), get Bakie her birthday present with no regrets on how awesome it was. I got a few things from the dealer's den, got a "Certified Arctic Fox" badge from
marymouse, commissioned 
chrispco for a new badge (looking forward to the streaming on 11/27). I also found 
mysteryotter hugged him, got a pin from him, finding Myster Otter is like finding waldo, very fun and very rewarding. I also tried getting a tail for 
Lunarwolfie because she really wanted one to match her hat I got her from Anime Detour, couldn't get one sadly but it will make an awesome Christmas gift.
Other things I did there that was fun as hell, I donated my set of Cards Against Humanity to the official gaming event, and even though it was only the base set with no expansions, it lasted a long time. I'm glad it got action and it was worth spreading the horrible fun, and it was very fun to hear Vin read out the cards in squeek. Got to play even more with in private games with some friends and new friends from distant places, looking forward to meeting them online for more.
All in all, it was a hell of a run, got to see Uncle Kage rant about psudoscience, got to see 2Gryphon's standup act, watched Mystery Theater and made witty comments, got to see Too Much Light, and I do have to give big ups to (i don't have icons so bear with me) Yarrick Wolf, Snap Cat, Legonnaire, Kellic, Firbaelvan, Auracle, ShadowRunner...I saw all of them working or volunteering there and they all helped with this great convention. Thanks to everyone who worked for everything with this convention. I'll be back next year.

On FA for 3 years, first journal entry....WHAT!?
Posted 13 years agoYeah, I really think I should get this out there now. Hi, I'm Vanbael. I'm a male arctic fox, 22 years old, orientation is straight however I am very tolerant of all sexualities. And I'm going to get this out there. I'm a fox of many different talents since creativity is boundless for me, but I can't draw. I can write, but my muse is playing tricks with me every day so that's an on and off type of deal now.
But I'm going to get this out there and say that I'm a very good nerd, in the ways of Magic the Gathering. Now I'm not big into the game, I don't even have a good competition deck (only one good deck and its an EDH/Commander deck). But what I'm good at is making cards. Now, I'm not one for making very broken cards. I'm a fair person, but I can make cards based on someone's fursona. I'm working on it, but all I would need is a questionnaire about your personality, physicality, and such to draw up a card that would fit you right. And a personal quote as well for flavor text. That and your desired art.
If you watch me for my smut, don't worry, I'll get a piece out soon. and I have worked something out between us about our mains and I'll have something written up ;3
As for the card and art fans, I am new to the FA economy, but I do have a paying job that will supply me with moneys for arts. If you like my 'sona, do keep watching because I have a new ref on the way, and an updated character as well. I'll make it interesting to say the least.
ALSO! I'm working on a little podcast, about 5 minutes of my opinion on the furry community. Now it will be tame, anylitical, and will come in audio, and video format. So, I'm working on entry one, I'll post it in MP3, I'll use open source music (mainly by Hamster Alliance) for intro and stuff and I'll have pics on the video part as well for stuff. I want it like Extra Credits from Penny Arcade/Escapist (more PA right now since there was a fallout and all that blah).
