General | Posted 9 years agoI'm back from the holidays officially now, and will be getting back to work in the next day! I realized though, I never made an announcement that I was moving accounts within the next month over to .
I will be uploading artwork there that I've done over the past year, along with personal artwork that I'm currently working on (studies/quick sketches before work). For the next month, any commission work I do will also be posted on this account (VanchaMarl), but around the end of January I will be completely moving over to Zephra.
I'm really looking forward to the final change, as I've been wanting to move to this account the past few months now. In the meantime, I'll be working on more art and posting up as much as I can!

Back in Action!
General | Posted 9 years agoSeems my computer has been all fixed! I was able to get it running on Sunday/Monday, but wanted to wait a few days in case the cause of the crash ended up being different from what I found. Looks like it's all good though, so I'm good to continue working.
I'll be gone from the 18th-26th for visiting family for the holidays. Until then though, I plan on getting a lot of work done and updating everyone's commissions! I feel really bad that some have been waiting awhile without results, and I appreciate the patience that many people have shown with how life has gone. At the very least, I want to keep everyone informed with where their commission is, so if you have any questions feel free to note me and I can give an update.
In the meantime, I'm looking forward to getting a lot of work done, and I hope everyone has a good week! (:

Quick update
General | Posted 9 years agoShould have had this up a few days ago, but I've been cleaning the house quite a bit while waiting on family to arrive. As of last Sunday, my computer is dead. In about 98% sure what the problem is, and I've already ordered the replacement part, but it won't be in until saturday, and I'll see then if I'm right or not.
Everything I've had was backed up online, so this won't effect things too much besides not being able to work on digital work for a bit. I'll have an update soon once everything is back up and running!
In the meantime though, Pokemon Sun/Moon comes out on my birthday. What starter Pokemon are you wanting to get?

Changing how I work (update)
General | Posted 9 years agoSo, San Japan went pretty well, but afterwords some events took place where I hit a bit of a depression. I've took some time to rest and reflect on things, and am getting back to work starting today. However, it's hard to show progress when a lot of work can't finalize anything to share on FA right now.
So....
I'm going to be streaming twice a week on Picarto in order to show commission work (and to just keep myself on track). Current plan is to stream on Mondays and Fridays starting this Friday (the 23rd) around 2-3pm central time.

Commissions are closed as of now so I can catch up on all of my work and prepare for the conventions coming up. If you've talked with me about a commission before now, I'll still be able to work on yours, but any past this date will have to wait till later to get a spot.

Art Schedule [7/19-7/25]
General | Posted 9 years agoHad a bit of a hiccup uploading this yesterday, but time to post up the new schedule! Keeping things more lightly paced, so if I finish the work for each given day I can do more to get back on track.
I'm currently having a lot of trouble working because of stress after AC, getting ready for two more conventions, and just knowing that I am behind on work for commissions. A good portion of this week is going to be spent just getting back on track with things, and hopefully next week will start being more active with posting.
I am spending some time on personal work as well, to hopefully avoid an art block that I feel coming in. If all goes well, I should also have a patreon going up by the end of the month.

Settled in (important update).
General | Posted 9 years agoFinally settled in to my new place, though it still feels weird going around in a new environment. Honestly, the weather is nicer than I thought it would be, though it is kindof hot during the day. xD
Getting back into a drawing rhythm this week, and going to be starting something new on Monday. Every Monday from now on, I'm going to be posting up my planned schedule for that week. That way I can be more open with what I'm working on, and everyone can see when I'm getting to their commission since I know I am behind on some work.
I also have a few slots open for traditional commissions that will be brought to Anthrocon for pickup! I don't plan on doing many commissions at the convention depending on how busy it is, so this would be the best way to get something personal from me at the convention.

Moving out!
General | Posted 9 years agoMaking this journal slightly preemptive, since I'm teeechnically moving on Sunday. However, my internet is going out tomorrow at noon, and I'll be selling at Nauticon in Massachusetts over the weekend. I also plan on updating a lot of art over the weekend, including a new egg auction coming this Friday.
I was planning on finishing a lot more commissions than I got to the last two/three days due to the FA power outage. A bit of work got done though, which I'll either be posting or sharing with people here. My current commission list can be found here, with varying levels of completion:

Another update of sorts
General | Posted 9 years agoSo. With everything going on right now, I figured a journal is in order.
As it seems right now, most of my tooth problems have been taken care of. The root canal went well, though I'm just trying to get used to the filling/slight soreness. Today I also had to put down one of my rats since I found out that she had a brain tumor that brought up a lot of complications. Her sister is a bit depressed but recovering now, though sadly I'll be surrendering her to the SPCA next Tuesday.
Mainly all this is happening because I'm moving in roughly one week. From New Hampshire to Texas. I'll be working on commissions until the 18th, then going to Nauticon on the 20th. Directly after the convention I'll be driving down over the course of a week or two while visiting family. For that time I'll be good to answer notes, but I won't be too active on here otherwise.
My current plan is to finish as many commissions before the move so I don't have to worry about them when driving. I also want to try and get an egg auction up before the move, but that'll only happen if I can finish at least the references for the last egg auction.
Also, for any sketches done in the past I'm shipping those out this Saturday and have sent notes to everyone who said they were interested. Anyone I don't hear back from by then will most likely not be getting the sketches from me (If you contacted me and I'm shipping them later, you don't have to worry about this).
In June I am flying back up for Anthrocon since I am selling at the convention this year! Update about Health

I woke up yesterday and had some toothaches that randomly would come during the day then go away. Come today, and those toothaches suddenly got much worse. So bad that I couldn't draw for a few hours. I was able to get a dentist appointment just to see what was going on, and turns out that I need to get a root canal. Thing is, the closest date I can do that because of needing a specialist is on May 11th.
I'm on antibiotics now to help, but I don't know how pain management will go the next few weeks. Taking today and tomorrow a bit easier so I can hopefully work hard on the weekend and make up for some lost time. I wanted to keep everyone updated though, and hopefully the next few weeks won't be as bad as I think.

Selling a tablet (Info in description)

I'm currently using a Cintiq for painting digitally and commissions, but was holding onto my old Wacom Intuos Pen and touch tablet in case anything happened. However, I'm moving in the next two months and would be better off traveling without it and am looking to sell it if anyone is interested!

It still works perfectly fine, though the surface is slightly scuffled after a lot of use. I can get photos if needed.

I've been wanting to do watercolor commissions for awhile, and some new supplies just arrived!

There are three different sized papers that I'll be working on, with three different price ranges depending on their size. To help visually show their sizes, I've prepared this:

Small paper - 4x6 inches
-$25-50
-Only waist up and headshots (not enough room for fullbodies)
Medium paper - 7x10 inches
-$75-150
-Includes simple background, unless specifically requested
Large paper - 12x16 inches
-$150-300
-Includes simple background, unless specifically requested
-Can be an illustration of your choice, or also a huge sketch page of your character, all painted
Extra Large paper (used to be large, but I got another pad) - 14x20 inches
-$150-400
-Highly detailed due to size
-Can be an illustration of your choice, or also a huge sketch page of your character, all painted
NOTE: for the first week (2/4 - 2/11), anyone who has gotten a commission from me before has a 15% discount on these watercolor commissions.
All of these include a sketch to start with, then I'll work on the painting. You'll also get a digital version of your painting to post up, and I can mail the originals to you as well. (price on shipping changes per size. Small pieces roughly $1 for US, medium pieces ~$7. Ask for out of US shipping estimates please.)
Because I am working on watercolor blocks, I can only work on a certain number of pieces per size at a time. For that reason, I've set up the following slots:

General | Posted 10 years agoSo, I just want to keep people in the loop with how things are going since I have a lot of commissions in-progress.
I've been sick since Tues/Wed last week, and lost my voice since Friday. Hasn't come back just yet, though I think I'm getting better. Going to start working again tomorrow, though I keep having coughing fits that just won't stop. x.x
I know I owe art to quite a few people, so I'll be updating this journal in the next day with a schedule of when I'm working on everything!
Neither of the sculptures I brought with me to ANE sold, so I'm figuring out whether to hold onto them for the next con, or offer them for sale online.
And lastly in good news, looks like I have a table at Anthrocon this year and will be selling my art/commissions while there! It's right after I'm moving to Texas, so I'll have to see if I can get any new prints for it. Or just free time in general to make more prints.

For one, in the first few days of January I will be updating my prices to better reflect the amount of time and effort that goes into creating everything. This is twofold; on one hand I'm hoping to have a bit more free time to do my own work. On the other, I hope to be able to spend more time on my artwork to bring higher quality to it.
The main prices that are changing have to do with custom reference sheets, the base on outfit designs, and painted sketches/simple illustrations. I'll have more details soon!
Secondly, I'm having a big project opening in the first week of January. It has something to do with Chibis, and overall I'm looking forward to it!

Update!
General | Posted 10 years agoSO. Quick update: As of the 13th-17th I won't have any reliable internet access. I'll still be working (and probably with no internet distractions I'll get more done then), but if I'm slow to respond to notes; my apologies! I'll be checking as often as I can (and trying to visit the nearby bookstore/coffee shop for internet).
