Art Updates
Posted 11 years agoFinally getting around to uploading all the art I've gotten in the past few years. Man, it's been a while!
I should commission some more porn sometime soon. Any recommendations for good artists that can be creative with eggplay, size difference, and/or weird cocks? :D

Farewell, Athus.
Posted 14 years agoSorry it's taken me three days to post this; this has been a very busy and stressful time for all of us. Everyone's coping in their own way; we're spending a lot of time recounting our stories of him and the stupid things he'd keep coming out with. I'm now over in the US, having spent the last 33 hours in transit.
We're going to be spending a lot of time getting his website up and full of memories and tweet quotes; if you've got something you'd like to share, please do send it in - he's touched so many lives that we kind of owe it to everyone to keep a record of it all.
Thank you everyone for your support. You guys are awesome. <3

On Tuesday the 11th of October 2011, Athus was involved in a severe car collision that ended his time here with us. The 29 years of his life were filled with amazing stories, incredible adventures and outstanding creativity and talent. He shared his love of life, affection for others and sense of humor with many wonderful people. In memory of Athus and his special life, his closest kin have created a website for others to share their experiences with Athus as well as share photos and artwork. An email address has been established to send your wishes in to be posted on the site athus@athusnadorian.com. Thank you for your kind words, love and support through all of this. Remember to love life, hold your friends close and have a little fun - Athus wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
Please visit the site we have established www.athusnadorian.com and use the email address athus[at]athusnadorian.com to share your wishes to allow time for his closest kin to mourn peacefully.

e621 changeover, new policy, next steps
Posted 15 years agoWow, what a hectic last two weeks - which were meant to be holidays!
First Reading Festival (which was a blast), then Eurofurence... with e621 landing in my lap literally 4 hours before I was due to set off to Germany to go to Eurofurence... damn, when it rains, it pours!
Still - all's well that ends well, and I got back home in one piece (as well as got e621 back online within 2 days of returning home).
Anyway; this is an informal journal mirroring the one I made on e621's forum (located here: http://www.e621.net/forum/show/8456 ), informing everyone of the details of the changeover, new site policy, and next steps for the future - as well as an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. I may not be able to answer all of them, but I'll do my best.
First of all - the changeover. e621 was passed onto me by Arcturus (the previous owner of e621), because he no longer wished to be the target of harassment (and 'far worse', as he mentioned in his parting statements) - and was given to me because he trusted me to do carry e621 into the future.
The site landed in my lap literally 4 hours before I left for Germany to the awesome Eurofurence - and (as several people at the convention can attest), I spent most of my free time when I wasn't having the time of my life working on getting the site up and running - which I probably shouldn't have done... But anyway, the site is now back up and working well (aside from a few broken resized images).
Secondly - the new policy. e621, in my opinion, suffered considerably due to its less-than-amicable attitude towards artists requesting their work to be taken down from the site - and because of a general lack of respect to artists and their wishes (who, realistically, are the foundation of the furry art community).
as a result, I'm implementing a newer, more artist-friendly takedown policy which will hopefully provide less of a barrier for artists who wish to have their artwork taken down (as DMCA notifications are a pain in the ass to write - as well as respond to, because they're so often incorrectly used).
In addition, I'm making a big effort to increase the accountability and documentation surrounding significant moderator and admin activity, to ensure that any takedowns, bans, right revocations and so on are handled professionally and respectfully - as well as allowing us to look back over this information later in case of appeals and so on.
Thirdly - next steps. The biggest thing I wish to improve with e621 is artist involvement; there are many things which can be done which will turn a previously negative outlook ('Who uploaded my art to e621? I want it removed') into a positive one - where artists are correctly attributed for their work, retain control over their work on the site.
I'd also like to ensure they are even given the tools they need to continue being artists - such as 'order print' links to Inkbunny for example, or 'Commission Information for this artist' links that point to an address of the artist's choice.
While small, I feel these changes can have a massive positive effect on the entire community without significantly impacting it for those browsing and viewing art, and by allowing artists to voluntarily post their own work and have suitable controls over them, could draw even more content to the site.
As anybody who already knows me will attest to, I tend to be pretty neutral and considerate in how I handle issues; running Bad Dragon has taught me a lot about the importance and value of policies and procedure when it comes to managing complicated and/or professional things, and I'm trying to apply some of the best bits of what I learned to e621.
So, please don't be alarmed when things seem a bit more 'formal' in terms of how things are done. It's for the best :p
Anyway; that's about it - no further significant changes are anticipated (aside from bug fixes, and later on maybe a few of the 'next steps' mentioned), and I welcome any and all feedback regarding these, both via email (varka@e621.net - preferred if you wish to keep things private, as notes on FA are hard to track), or via comment below.
Sorry for the length.... Hehe, that's not the first time I've had to say that, rrrrrl ;)

Wow, it's been a year already?
Posted 16 years agoHey everyone.
It's been just over a year since I last made an interim update about my life and it's goings on - in that year, so much has happened.
I've:
- graduated from university (a 4 year course - Bsc hons in compsci - wheee)
- condensed all my belongings into three boxes, which means I'm truly mobile now
- made Bad Dragon an order of magnitude larger in the last year from the size it was when I started the company
- moved from sculpting and casting cocks to managing a business and paperwork and R&D (yay, taxes!)
I'm:
- visiting Narse and Athus and friends in Phoenix until the middle of August
- having as much fun as possible, and
- sweating my ass off in the desert heat in the middle of summer.
Seriously, what the hell was I thinking, choosing to go to the desert in summer?
In other news, I've started uploading all my old artwork again, and have been working to not neglect my FA account so much. :p
Wheeeee!

Long time no see - some toy updates!
Posted 17 years agoHey all -
It's been a loooong time since that first silicone toy, and my - how things have changed.
The toy company now has a name - Bad Dragon - and a website: http://www.bad-dragon.com! It's not finished yet, but I'm working on it...
I've got no less than FIVE new toys on the go - I'll post up pictures soon but here's the names:
- The Ridgeback (version 2 really, with more ridges and less spines)
- The DragonTongue (pretty much as the title says... you'll be in for a wild ride)
- The Purple Dragon (You'll see why I use such vague naming when you see it... and the reference pic!)
- The Rough Rider (Still not sure if this one will sell, but hey - I've made the mould - why not let people try it? You'll see.)
- The Chimera (another one I'm not sure about selling - the head could do with a little reworking - but with a friend absolutely begging me for one, I just had to make it...)
Other than those toys listed (you can find some pics on http://picasaweb.google.com/varka3/), I'm getting the site finished and ready and adverts for FurAffinity, Yiffstar and FChan prepared. Busy dragon, balancing this with another full time job too!
Thanks to everyone who's supported me through this so far - and MAKE SURE TO LOOK OUT FOR THE BAD DRAGON STALL AT AC!

First silicone toy cast!
Posted 18 years agoYaaay - I've finally finished it!
This is the very first casting of the "Ripple" toy I had a shot at designing several months ago. It's sat on my shelf collecting dust until I decided to use it for my first full-process test in silicone, and without further ado, here it is!
http://picasaweb.google.com/varka3/.....eToyStudioPics
Now, it seems as though FA absolutely refuses to do image tags (Even though there's buttons to do it), so you're going to have to bear with me a little here and skip through the gallery and read my text at the same time. :P
If you're lazy, you can hit up the proper blog here at Bad Dragon: http://www.bad-dragon.com
The material was everything I hoped for, and more. It's soft, flexible, yet holds its shape - this is light years away from 'jelly' toys, with the same initial firmness as Zeta's vinyl material but a LOT more stretchy and 'squirmworthy' once you start to flex it...
And oh my god it's expensive. Eyewateringly expensive. I'd be cheaper casting toys out of 12-year-old vintage Champagne...
I also noticed that the moulding method I've used captures every single last tiny detail, right down to the brush strokes... For the next toys I do, I'm not going to smooth off details with brush on sealer like I did on this one - I'm going to leave all the little murrry details in there and try to make it as accurate as possible... especially as I've solved the problems with surface bubbles. Here's a closeup of the untreated surface before painting... notice the brush marks and tiny little details?
I'm planning to do a full scale test of the nice silicone pigments I'm going to be using for these things - they're absolutely wonderful, unlike just mixing acrylic paint in with the silicone this stuff bonds chemically to the silicone, embedded in a special, transparent platinum coating which won't rub off, tarnish, stain or wear out (because it's *part* of the silicone)...
I can't wait to make a Ridgeback (if there's ever any demand for it... wistful sigh) with fully realistic painted colourings... this is going to be awesome.
As far as I know, nobody else has ever done this with a toy before. Here's to innovation!
And in case I don't get to say so again before Tuesday... Happy Holidays!

Playing with Zbrush.
Posted 18 years agoWell, I've wanted to play with Zbrush for quite some time but have never gotten up the courage (or found the time) to do so. Well, a couple of hours later and I have this:

Now, it's far from draconic, but I'm practicing on something I don't really care about: Next time it'll be a Dragon!
