New account/parallel lives, twitter, life updates etc
Posted 8 years agoHEY WHAT'S UP as you guys might have noticed, I made a new account! It's aspeneyes, maybe you wnat to follow it! If you follow me on twitter (@aspen_eyes) you probably know that's what I've been going by for a couple years now! And recently I've been thinking a lot about my online presence and my work's impact as a whole and you may have noticed how I kind of overhauled my entire style, haha. I'm really happy with it, it feels like something that I've been itching to get out of my system for a few years now is finally being expressed.
But I'm not getting rid of this account! With the aforementioned overhaul I decided I'd keep the name Vekke, and use it as a secondary presence (though I suppose here on FA it's primary!). I realized I'd always crave anime furries with poppy colours haha, but I wanted to clearly delineate these two styles so I could stay somewhat consistent, even if it's split between two accounts ;D
I made a new twitter account to go with, btw! Check it out at @VEKKE
So that's some of what's been up! Those are my ~parallel lives~ hahaha. It'll be an interesting ride, I've never really tried to grow in two different directions before! Apart from all that, I have been crazy busy lately as I've been realizing that 7-8 months is not a LOT of time to prepare for the big move I'm planning from MSP to PDX later this year. Gotta save up, gotta draw and design a bunch, AAAAAAAA. Gotta get a car somehow?? It feels wonderful to be creating so much though, I'm excited pretty much every day LMAO, PURE ADRENALINE. I have so many big exciting projects planned for this year already and I CANNOT WAIT

A note on my current commission progress

Lately a lot of you have been commissioning me for larger pieces and I have loved working on those for you! However, I’m new to receiving this much interest in them and while I’m extremely grateful for it, I’m still learning how best to pace myself with them, and unfortunately I’ve made a couple mistakes in doing so recently!
As it turns out, larger pieces are very energetically taxing for me at this point. I’m still learning new techniques and learning about my workflow in general, so not only do they take more time, they involve a lot more decision making than simpler artwork. In addition, they take multiple sittings of several hours each to finish, rather than just one or maybe two, and I’m very bad at breaking my flow even to do simple things like make food or go to bed haha (adhd lol—I’M WORKING ON IT), so by the end of the night I end up very mentally and physically exhausted and it’s not something I can keep up with on a daily basis to power through and finish one large commission after the other.
So what I’ll be doing as I complete the rest of my queue is this: I’ll be setting aside one or two days a week minimum to work very intensely on larger pieces with backgrounds (I’ll probably only go over two days if I’m really feeling on a roll), and work on simpler stuff every other day. This means that for those of you waiting on larger pieces, it might take longer to get them to you, and I apologize for that delay, but I assure you that the quality of art will be better for it if I’m not stressing about bills or about taking time to make dinner and sleep :D
Also, while I will be accepting new smaller commissions as I finish batches of those, I won’t be accepting any larger commissions until all of my outstanding large pieces are done. In the future I’ll only be accepting one or two large commissions at one given time so that wait times aren’t as extreme. I’m essentially treating “full illustrations/atmospheric/cinematic” and “everything simpler than those” as two separate, parallel queues, which I think will help me organize my time a lot more easily.
So there you go, just a bit of transparency for everyone 🙂 As always, thank you all for your patience and support and for bearing with me, I always enjoy working on art for all of you! You can check my trello queue for the status of your commission at any given time.
