Aging up?
Posted 13 years agoI've been thinking about aging a few of my characters up a bit. More specifically, I've been thinking of adding at least five years onto Niamh, Ciara and Fiachra. Most of my other characters are in their late twenties to early thirties now, while those three are 20, 22 and 25 respectively, which is one year older than they were in Oseille. Which, I suppose, would mean that I'd have to age Deirdre up a bit as well, but I'd be cool with that, too.
Admittedly, this largely in aid of giving Fiachra a daughter who would be old enough to actually do something with, which is, itself, and effort to tame him down some. But what do you guys think?
(Megan and Deborah would stay the same age they are now, of course.)

It's funny
Posted 13 years agoYou wait and wait, and then half your commissions are all finished practically on the same day. Which is great for me, but I apologize for flooding you guys with submissions just now.
I've got some more coming, too, and some of it will actually be clean art, for a wonder. So brace yourselves.

Been kind of hiding out for a while.
Posted 13 years agoI know I've been pretty distant and moody lately, and I want to apologize to everyone for that. I haven't been paying as much attention to any of my friends as I ought to, and for the most part I really haven't said why. I guess it's just the way I was raised. Family problems stay in the family.
But what with my uncle and my sister-in-law being hospitalized for various reasons, as well as the fact that my mother is going in for major surgery in 12 days, and her struggles with Parkinson's, I've just found it hard to cope lately. Unfortunately, my natural inclination is to draw into myself and hide out in my writing or in mindless activities that let me kind of ignore my problems for a while. I haven't said much about it here on FA because I don't want people to think I'm fishing for sympathy. To be honest, I often find outpourings of sympathy to rather embarrassing, however much I still appreciate them. But I didn't want anyone to think I was ignoring them out of spite, either.
Sorry guys. I still love you. I'm just kind of worn to a frazzle right at the moment. Just give me a poke if I start to drift away again.

May 4
Posted 13 years agoKind of tired of all the bad Star Wars jokes. So how about a real reason to remember May 4th. Good, bad or indifferent, take your pick.
1471 – Wars of the Roses: The Battle of Tewkesbury: Edward IV defeats a Lancastrian Army and kills Edward, Prince of Wales.
1493 – Pope Alexander VI divides the New World between Spain and Portugal along the Line of Demarcation.
1776 - Rhode Island becomes the first American colony to renounce allegiance to King George III.
1814 – Emperor Napoleon I of France arrives at Portoferraio on the island of Elba to begin his exile.
1863 – American Civil War: The Battle of Chancellorsville ends with a Union retreat.
1953 – Ernest Hemingway wins the Pulitzer Prize for The Old Man and the Sea.
1961 – American civil rights movement: The "Freedom Riders" begin a bus trip through the South.
1989 – Iran-Contra Affair: Former White House aide Oliver North is convicted of three crimes and acquitted of nine other charges. The convictions, however, are later overturned on appeal.
1990 – Latvia proclaims the renewal of its independence after the Soviet occupation.
1998 – A federal judge in Sacramento, California, gives "Unabomber" Theodore Kaczynski four life sentences plus 30 years after Kaczynski accepts a plea agreement sparing him from the death penalty.

Panty Icons from RanBlush
Posted 13 years agoIf you're considering getting a new icon,
ranblush is selling some really cute panty icons right now, single icons and linked, for a very low price. These aren't simple template icons that she slaps the right colors on, either.
You can see the sample icons she did for me here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7641785/
You can find her journal with the relevant information here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3417975/
She's very professional and friendly, too, and definitely worth checking out.

Idle question: Megan and Fiachra
Posted 13 years agoSomething I've been kind of wondering about. Do you guys thing that Megan and Fiachra look too much alike? Even though one's a girl and one's a boy, has anyone every gotten them confused, say while looking at a thumbnail? I'm probably not going to change either of them, except in cosmetic ways like jewelry or clothing. They are cousins, after all, so they're meant to look like they're related. But it is something I've kind of wondered about. In a sort of one o'clock in the morning, nothing-better-to-do sort of way.

Top Six, ah, Eight, ah, Nine Picks
Posted 13 years agoStolen from
rabbitfangs, because it simply looked like too much fun.
Rules:
1. Post six links to your top six favorite pics of your character.
2. If you're an artist post the tops six that you've personally drawn.
3. If you don't draw post links to your tops six favorites pics of you char from your gallery.
4. Post one other top favorite that is not your character.
1. Surplus to Requirements - One of the darker and moodier pieces in my collection, but I quite like the overall feel of this piece. I think it was the first time Megan really started to feel like she was representing who I am on the same level that Niamh did. Plus, it's one of the few pictures that shows the butterfly-shaped marking on her muzzle in full detail.
2. In the Palm of Her Hand (NSFW) - A fairly naughty picture, especially with that hidden hand, but this is the one that established Megan's final, finished look. I still think the light cream color looks much better on her that bright white.
3. What Might Have Been - Besides the deeper, personal meaning this picture has for me, I really like how Megan looks in this picture. It's probably her most down-to-earth moment, and the one where she most looks like a regular person.
4. Lady's Red Ribbon (NSFW) - This was a surprise gift from a really sweet girl, who has since become a good friend and someone whom I really admire. She's drawn Megan a couple of times since then, and I love everything she's done for me.
5. Yours Forever - A Valentine's Day gift for my darling Eliki. I still think the title sums everything up just perfectly.
6. Exploring Distant Worlds - This one's pretty simple and plain compared to some of the art I've commissioned, but I love the feeling of peace, and of course I'm still just as devoted to books as I've always been.
7. Golden Vanity (NSFW) - Yeah, so we're only supposed to pick six. I've never been good at picking favorites, or following the rules, and I simply love this picture too much to leave it out, even if it is a bit on the naughty side.
8 - Safe in the Warmth of Your Love - Yet another extra, but it had to be included. It's one of the most special pictures in my collection, because Eliki sent it to me when he asked me to be his officially, and it's cute as it can be, too.
Bonus:
9. Secrets in the Water (NSFW) - This picture is four years old now, and it has been lost way back at the beginning of my gallery where few probably ever go. But it's still one of my favorites. It was one of the first pictures, if not the first, of Ciara and Niamh, and it's still one of the cutest ever. It's also notable for getting poor Ciara's height just about right.

Posted 13 years agoI hate...

...and I can't think of a single intelligent thing to say about it. I hate leaving one word comments like "cute", because I feel that, with all the work artists put into their art, they deserve a bit more than that. But of course, I feel bad for hitting the "favorite" button without saying a word, too.

About Fiachra (part 2)
Posted 13 years agoAs I said in my earlier post, I'm not going to commission more naughty art with him for a while. But since it came up a couple of times, I'm still perfectly happy to loan him out if anyone's interested. I'm not really putting any restrictions on him that haven't always been there (since he still can't be paired with male characters, sorry). It's just that I want to focus on some other aspects of his character for a while, in anything I commission with him.
Fiachra's Future
Posted 13 years agoAs I've mentioned a couple of times before, I've been working on a sort of a sequel to Oseille. I've got it mostly finished now, save for a final polish, and while it's rather shorter than either of my other books, if I can call something that's only 86 pages long a book, I'm quite pleased with it.
As with Oseille, the main focus of the story is on Ciara and what she does. But it let me flesh Fiachra's character out a bit more, too, and that, combined with some of the other ideas I've had about him, has caused me to rethink what I'm doing with him.
I've got a few more commissions coming in, and after they're done I'm going to restrict Fiachra to clean art for a while and work on trying to get his story told. I don't have anything too definite in mind yet, except that I want to get some more art done of him and Niamh as children, and finally get their mother and grandmother drawn as well. I'm also thinking very seriously about giving him a daughter. I'd originally thought to give him a child with Kara, but I got selfish and I decided I wanted his child to be a purebred rabbit. Because I certainly don't have enough rabbit characters, goodness knows!

Post a meme, lose a watcher.
Posted 13 years agoYour loss, babe.
As for the rest of you guys, never fear. I'll get back to posting cheerier journals soon, and there'll be some smut along soon enough. I've totally failed in my resolve to up the level of clean art in my collection. Thanks for putting up with me.

Oh, fuck it. Meme time. (Warning: Vulgar language)
Posted 13 years agoNone of this will be anything new to anyone who has been watching me for a while, but I thought a few of my new watchers might find it mildly interesting. Also, I have nothing better to do with my time at the moment.
1. We all know what we call you, what about the folks at home? Whats your name?
I'll say what I always say in these situations. I'm not giving my legal name out that publicly. You guys may call me Megan. You can call me "hey, you" for that matter, or even "stuck-up bitch" if you please. You won't be the first.
2. How tall are you?
I'm tall enough to reach the keyboard, and short enough to fit through most doorways.
3. Natural hair color? (if you can remember it)
You've seen Megan the rabbit, right? She's actually pretty close to me, for being a five foot tall rabbit girl. Or she would be if people would remember to make her pudgy when they draw her. So, black.
3. What about eye color?
Way to number the meme, guy. Again, look at Megan. My eyes are brown, like her's are.
4. What orientation are you?
North-north-west.
Oh, wait, you mean sexual orientation? You could make your questions a bit clearer so pedantic fuckers like me won't pick them apart, you know. To be perfectly honest, I don't find any of the available labels to be entirely comfortable. I tend to alternate between labeling myself as either bisexual or pansexual, because I've dated women, I'm currently dating a man, and someone's physical sex or gender identity is not the ultimate deciding factor in whether I'm attracted to them or not. However, I'm also strongly attracted to people who tend more toward the feminine side, as well as those who are androgynous. Strongly masculine individuals are something of a turn-off for me in almost all cases. I don't dislike them as people, or anything like that, and try my best not to judge anyone. They simply don't do anything for me. So I don't feel I can say that I'm attracted to people across the board.
Then again, I'm (somewhat) openly transgendered, and increasingly given to wishing that there were time when I could but judged by standards other than my sex or who I'm attracted to, to the point where I have even wished I could disavow all such things entirely. So I suppose I've just become resistant to being labeled at all. That or I'm fucked up, plain and simple.
If you read through all that, you get e-cookies.
5. Are you single, taken, or undecided?
I have a boyfriend. That's my dear
eliki for those who have just watched me.
6. What do you do in your spare time?
I fill out idiotic internet memes, apparently.
7. What's your job?
Everybody always wants to know this. As if what you do to put bread on your table is somehow the most important thing about you. Me? I cause trouble.
8. What's one thing you like about yourself?
My smooth texture and refreshing minty taste. I also have just enough of a talent with words that I can put together stories that seem to work, and enough pig-headed stubbornness not to give up on the things I really want to achieve.
9. Alright, now what about something you dislike about yourself?
The face in the mirror.
10. What's some things your friends noticed about you when they first met you?
You'd really have to ask them. I have a feeling they'd phrase things a bit more kindly than I would, myself.
Good! Hold on, yer coming up on some deeper questions now... ready?
I can hardly wait...
11. Of what faith/religion are you(if any at all?)
That's it? I thought you said deeper questions. "What religion are you" shows up on every questionnaire of this sort. Well, okay.
I'm an atheist. I don't believe in gods, spirits, ghosts, the supernatural or the eternal hellfire people insist is a just and fair reward for the simple act of not believing. You do believe in any or all of these things? Cool. I will admit I find religion to be a fascinating subject, and while there are a few things I have zero patience for, I'm not going to be a bitch to anyone who does believe.
12. Do you drink?
Alcohol? Again, a bit of clarity would be nice. I do drink alcohol from time to time, usually white wine, or rum when I can afford it. Bourbon can be nice, too, but only if it's the expensive sort.
13. Do you smoke?
I used to, when I was young and stupid. I grew up around smokers. My father smoked, my grandfather smoked, and then when I went off to college I ended up at a school where a good two-thirds of the students, staff and faculty all smoked. Not that that's any sort of an excuse I suppose. Still, I managed to quit almost completely by the time I was 21. The only trouble is I still want to smoke, and when I'm stressed or upset the urge can be quite strong. Then I hate myself.
14. What are your fears?
Fucking everything up. And birds.
15. What are your dreams/goals?
I want to be the greatest writer who ever put pen to paper. But I'll settle for having a decent readership and maybe inspiring a few people to write their own stories, as my literary heroes did for me. I'd also like to think that, whenever I reach the end of my life, it could be at a point where I'm square with everyone and won't leave any debt unpaid, but I don't think such a thing is ever possible.
16.Ever had any crushes/ex's in the past/present?
Like I said above, I've got two ex-girlfriends. Not that either of them deserve such a kindly term.
Almost done!!! Time for some lighter topics now :D
We haven't had any heavy questions yet!
17. Who's your best bud?
I don't like picking favorites. I love all of my friends.
18. Alright, you got the cravin' for munchies, what'cha reachin' for?
Ibuprofen. I think this meme is giving me a headache. I guess it depends on what I have in the house and how I'm feeling. It's usually something that's terrible for me and that I feel bad about eating afterward.
19. Favorite drink?
Didn't we already cover this one? I like white wine for alcohol, and I'm shamefully addicted to Diet Coke for a soft drink. I like masala chai quite a bit, too.
20. Favorite color?
I'll bet everyone is just on the edge of their seats about now! Purple. Certain shades of pink are nice, too, especially when paired with black.
21. If you had any super power, what would it be?
I'm boring. I'd like to be able to be fluent in every language the human race has ever invented, including pidgin and creole languages as well as the purely fictional ones.
22. Favorite movie?
It changes constantly, but I have a definite fondness for The Lion in Winter. It helps that I've come to admire Katherine Hepburn quite a bit. Other movies include Labyrinth, because I always kind of wanted to be Sarah when I was younger, and just about anything Terry Gillian has done, but especially Time Bandits. Alien still fits in there, of course, and I'm tempted to include Captain Blood, silly as it is.
23. Least favorite food?
I think it's a toss up between seaweed and okra.
24. Quick! You have only one meal left before you die!!! What is it?
I've got too many things I want to get done before I die to worry about food. If I've only got a few hours left, you can bet your ass I'm not going to waste them.
25. What do you drive/wish you drove?
I don't drive anything at the moment, because my car has been broken down since October. But when it's running, I drive an old Toyota Camry. I'm actually quite fond of it, though I wish I had the money to get the leather seats either fixed or replaced.
Last 5 questions. You're in the homestretch, come on, you can make it! Lets see what gets under your skin.
Because I want to tell the whole world all about everything that pisses me off.
26. Most disliked bug?
Wasps. It's just a shame they like me so damned much.
27. Most hated pet peeves?
When people don't type the fucking words out. "You" is not that hard a word to spell. Neither is "please".
"Anyways" makes me want to slap people, too.
While we're on the subject, terms like "grammar Nazi" bug the shit out of me, too. I can be a bit pedantic at times, yes, but I'm not dragging you off to the gas chambers or attempting to invade your country.
28. Dislike in life?
What does this even fucking mean? What do I dislike in life? Clarity, my dear!
29. Most annoying?
Most annoying what? Most annoying question? I think this one wins the prize.
30. Most disliked TV show?
I don't own a functioning television, at least not one that will pick up broadcasts. My television is one of those old dinosaurs from before everything went digital, so all I can do with it now is watch DVDs. To be honest, I'm rather happier that way, too. The only thing I miss is being able to pick up the PBS station out of Cincinnati, and that's only because they used to carry classic Dr. Who episodes and Red Dwarf. And even then I could only pick it up if it wasn't raining somewhere between there and here.
Damn, but this took far too long!

Hi! My name is Megan...
Posted 13 years ago...and I'm addicted to furry art.
I just counted up tonight, and I'm waiting on 14 outstanding commissions, ranging in age from a year old to just a few weeks.
I'm such a nerd.

The Fabled Hare
Posted 13 years agoOne of my favorite songs, and one that I feel is rather perfect for today. It's a celebration and exploration of all the various mythology surrounding the hare, from the belief that they were witches familiars to various fertility rituals, as well as a song that takes a look at the lives of the animals themselves and how they have been affected by mankind. It's a long song, nearly ten minutes long, but it's definitely worth a listen if you have any interest in mythology at all.
It's also rather noteworthy in that it deals exclusively with hares, not with rabbits. These days, people seem to want to conflate the two species, especially here in the furry fandom, so I think this makes for rather a nice change.

Posted 13 years agoGet to know me?
Posted 13 years agoRather than posting a meme, I thought I'd just throw journal out there to invite people to ask me any questions they had in mind. Ask about me, my characters, anything you want to know. Within reason, of course.
