Water marks- Yea or Nay?

I've gotten feedback before saying "oh what a lovely piece but WTF watermark?!?!"
I get it, I agree but I was kinda "brought in" to the interwebs and posting art around the time when water marks were the norm. Are they tackey now? Do they ruin the piece?

Life Happens...
General | Posted 13 years agoYeah, been MIA for while on my account at least. A lot has been happening since last year and trust me I am not an angst whore looking for attention, nor do I ride the Emo Bus around for attention either.
But life happens. For some of us, it happens more often than for others. Which in a way makes us stronger and better able to handle kicks and punches life throws at us.
Short and sweet-
Last year I finally bought a house. Mine all mine with the guidance and help of my sister. Things were stressful but after most of my life living here and there (with no real certainty) it was nice to be able to have something I knew was mine.
Things were going well, fresh idea's, inspiration for not only my craft and art but for the house as well. Then, life happened. My mate of 4yrs was hit with a debilitating back condition. It was a slight annoyance at first, then he moved a piece of furniture we bought new for the house and it crippled him. He had herniated a disk. After much stress and fighting with doctors and insurance we found ways of treatment that worked for a while that did not involve surgery. We didn't want to go that rout since my mate is so young.
During the months this was going on, my mates mother was dying. She had been prior (that woman was too stubborn to die, I swear! lol )
but it was becoming more progressive.
Tie in some unnecessary work drama from co-workers who obviously did not have enough shit going on in their lives that they needed to start shit at work.
(thankfully my boss is very understanding and very neutral )
Then, shortly after the the first time my mate went "down" due to his back, in early July his mother passed.
I truly believe the only thing that held us together and kept us as sane as possible was that we went to Megaplex. We had been telling his mother about the con prior to going for the first time and she was so encouraging about it we felt we needed to go.
Add in more work drama (I lost people I thought were my friends for years at work), my mate going down two more times and it's Yule time! We ran out of options and he had to have back surgery, spinal surgery to be more exact.
He was scheduled for surgery in early January but due to some mix up and a form not being filed, it was delayed to MLK day. ( I do find it funny that he had his back cracked open while Obama did his inauguration speech XD)
Thankfully the hospital and staff were amazing and he is home recovering, when he freaking listens! >_<
I am very thankful for the handful of friends I have that have been supportive and willing to help. It's hard for me to rely on others due to a lot of things I will not get into now. But trust and counting on others is very hard for me. So telling people about all this is also hard, but I am doing it to try and regain some peace. I read doing this releases a lot off of ones mind and heart/spirit and needles to say but I am so full of stress that I am about to explode.
I feel like I haven't been happy and full of life in a very long time and I am just existing. Counting one day to another, waiting to feel something different in between working, stress and drinking.
(Don't judge, if I didn't drink I'd have killed someone by now. I don't smoke or toke so I drink. So NAH! XP )
I don't want to survive. I want to live. I want to get back to how things were. Work on art, joke, laugh with friends and enjoy life.
I know it sounds angsty and I know things are looking up. I guess I am just rundown. Oh and I am NOT complaining. Just expressing myself. I always know that things can be worse and I am thankful they are not. Doesn't mean it's any easier.

General | Posted 13 years agoSo, I live a little ways from BigCatRescue bigcatrescue.org/ which is awesome in it's self, but if you didn't know they are "Big Cat Rescue is the largest accredited sanctuary in the world dedicated entirely to abused and abandoned big cats. We are home to over 100 lions, tigers, bobcats, cougars and other species most of whom have been abandoned, abused, orphaned, saved from being turned into fur coats, or retired from performing acts. Our dual mission is to provide the best home we can for the cats in our care and educate the public about the plight of these majestic animals, both in captivity and in the wild, to end abuse and avoid extinction. $20 turkey dinner for a big cat (lion or tiger), a $10 chicken dinner for a medium cat (cougar or leopard) or a $5 game hen dinner for a little cat (lynx and smaller).

General | Posted 13 years agoSo the weekend before last, my mate surprised me by confirming Megaplex for us! :3
We are both so excited beyond belief. Both of us need this, life has been testing us a LOT recently so this was a wonderful surprise! Not to mention everyone kinda needs something to look forward to, ya know?
This isn't my first con, (or, ours together for that matter) I've been to Cons as small as Tampa Con (takes up one event room in a hotel and it's only one Sunday) and I've been as large as San Diego Comic Con. (a freakin football size con)
But this is our first furry con! For me, it was a sign for us to go just because this years theme is steampunk, and my mate and I are huge enthusiast. It's just nice to know I'll be among fellow nerds, dorks and open minded people. Far far away from my job and countless drama that surround the place and the like. I mean, I know all fandoms got their drama whores, but the great thing is we're fresh to the fandom so we're in it to meet great new people. Period! I have no qualms bidding someone good day...or to hell. ^_^
So, does anyone have any advice? Anyone been before that know some events that are a "must see/attend?" Dress code? (Might do one day or part of the day steampunked) I'm all ears for suggestions or tips, I want to make the most out of it and most importantly, have a great time.
I'll be making my own con badge, my mate wants me to make one for him as well. I'll post them once I'm done. I already got a sketch down for mine, he's might take some work.
Oh! Also I'll be bringing my art stuff to the con, so any fellow artist I will do a sketch for a sketch when possible. Kinda debating doing like "$5 ACEO deal" but that's a big maybe. I don't want to over do it for my fist time and like I said above, I want to have a great time and just get a feel for the con. Next year might be a completely different story. ^_~
Anyone on here want to meet up to say "hi" and what not or a sketch for a sketch, just let me know! We'll be there early Saturday morning the 28th and leaving late Sunday the 29th. Only 24 more days till Megaplex! \^o^/

Honestly didn't plan on it. ^^;

Been a pretty crazy couple of weeks thus far.
B.A.R.F : Bay Area Renaissance Festival http://bayarearenaissancefest.com/
Has kinda taken over on the weekends. I wasn't joking last journal when I said that it was my mate and I's vacation. Since we have season passes we have gone literally every single weekend since it's started.
To top it off, between drama at work, running errands (fighting my pest control ppl & getting a washer & drier-FINALLY >_< )
RenFair every weekend, meeting up for drinks mid week, looks like my mate and I finally got sick. Hoping it's just like a couple days worth of a cold. But I am one of those lucky few that doesn't get sick often but when I do, I get down with the plague.

Confession 1: Your biggest fear.
Finding out everything I believed in & loved is a lie. This includes my mate & friends.
Confession 2: Worst Nightmare.
Going in for a procedure (dentist, crotch doctor, ect) being put under and being able to feel everything that's happening but I can't move or scream.
Confession 3: Something you wish you could forget.
A lot of things in my past but that's why those memories are from the past. If you truly forget them you're doomed to repeat them. Still doesn't mean I have to like it.
Confession 4: Best dream.
Usually my persona in an alternate reality/fandom doing what she does best :3 .
Confession 5: Favorite memory.
Spending time with my best friends in high school. Just hanging out, watching a movie or listening to music while drawing.
Confession 6: Worst experience.
Living with my family in high school, my friendship with one or more good friends almost ending.
Confession 7: Biggest pet peeve.
People with no freakin MANNERS!
Confession 8: Something you're paranoid about.
Paranormal things and not trusting people I care about.

The other night...
General | Posted 14 years agoWhen I was leaving work late the other night, I was wearing heel boots and walking quite fast to my car, since it was cold out side. So my boots were making some noise.
To my right I hear a rustling and something shoot off into a tree, not even 6 feet away from me. (my work place is cushioned with a forest on one side) Looking up into the tree I meet the eyes of POTATO! Not really a potato, silly. That's what I call burrowing owls. ::points up:: It was a couple, a pair, a boy potato and a girl potato.
They just sat there watching me, seeing if I was a threat or not. I stood there a while, just enjoying this personal little moment with nature and wishing I had someone else to share it with. :3
