Posted 14 years agoAfter playing with it for a little over a week now, I'm starting to really like what they've done. Massive improvement over "Buzz". I still have invites to dish out, so if you want one then either post or note me your e-mail address. For those of you that do:

Keep in mind, it's still heavily in the beta stage, so things may change. So far, it's pretty stable for me. Also, if your name/icon isn't blatantly obvious, let me know who you are! I don't always recognize real names.

Free art from Floppybelly!
Posted 14 years agohttp://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2286151/
So I keep seeing these free art journals around, and they keep getting upwards of a hundred replies or so. Sounds good for business, or at least to get a name out there, no? Sounds like I should have a try. Here's a few key details.
Drawings:
* I don't take any pride in my drawings. This is probably because they kinda suck. That means I need practice, right?
* I don't have much motivation for drawing sometimes. At other times I'll get a big ol' I-wanna-draw-now spurt.
* Sometimes I'll just sketch out a drawing, or sometimes I'll ink and color it. You never know what you're gonna get.
Pipeys:
* Pipeys are what I really take pride in. This is what I'm assuming most of you are watching me for.
* I need examples for my tables in the Artist Alley and Dealer's Den. In the past few months, I've sold some of my examples, and my supply is getting a little thin. This is where you can come in.
* I can make a pipey of you for free. It might range anywhere from a 1-dollar size to a 40-dollar size, depending on your character and what I need more of at the moment.
* Let's say you see the pipey that I made of you for free, and you really like it. You can buy it from me, and I'll ship it to you. Here's the catch: Again, when you request your free art, you never know what you're gonna get. So your free pipey might be bigger than you were banking on, when it comes to purchasing purposes!
* If you DON'T purchase your free pipey, I will keep it as an example for my table.
* Now, because I'm working in a 3-dimensional medium, I only have so much space. When I have enough examples, I will stop making free pipeys. No more pipeys will be made without a guarantee of being bought. If someone buys an example at a convention, I will then re-open the free pipeys to fill that spot.
How to get one:
* Like usual, reply with a comment here.
* Include a reference of your character.
* Include a link to a journal that you've made, which has a link to this journal right here.
* Tell me whether you want a drawing or a pipey. (Prompts for drawings are greatly appreciated)
Then I'll number them, and go down each line as I feel like it! Drawings will be sporadic based on motivation and time. Pipeys will be less sporadic, based on how much room I have in my carrying box.
As a side-note! If you're linking to a character that I've already made a pipey of, and if I remember it, I may not add you to the list. Repeats are boring, sorry!
Annnnd, I think that's it. Have at it!
Can't hurt to enter! :)

3D Studio Max hell, and why the pyramid is taking so long...
Posted 14 years agoIf I could get my hands on the idiot that programmed the boolean functionality plugin for 3dsmax...ugh! After fighting for several days straight, I finally got a half-way decent slice, for the bay windows near the cap. (The object I used for the cut itself, kept merging with the mesh instead of doing it's job!)
For those that haven't touched a 3D application, booleaning is using one 3D object to cut a specific shape out of another. Lets say I create two spheres, one that's one hundred meters in diameter, and another that's only five meters in diameter. I can take the smaller sphere, move it to where I want, and run the boolean function. What I would be left, would be pretty much the Death Star from Star Wars. This simple function, saves countless hours/days of manually moving vertex points to the desired areas.
Now, what's the big deal, that sounds simple enough, right? If you don't manage to run into a glitch with the software, sure! Glitches like having points offset by 0.02 feet (I have the scale set so that one grid block equals ten feet). That doesn't sound like much now, but it can mean the difference between a nice looking mesh, and a huge mess of errors to clean up. For example:
It means the difference from a mostly clean looking slice like this: http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/.....mostlyfixe.jpg
and crap like this: http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/.....orsgalore1.jpg
or as extreme as this: http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/.....orsgalore2.jpg
So yeah, I haven't given up on the project, but I'm determined to get it as accurate as I possibly can. I want to do this wonderful piece of architecture some justice!

Wow, stay classy furs! (warning: RAAAAAANT!)

Edit – Jan 21, 2011
We were running a donation drive for ThunderRoo. Because of continued suspicions and accusations from several very vocal members of the community, FNN is pulling the donations button from the site. We thank those of you who donated. The funds collected have already been sent to ThunderRoo and should help get him back on his feet.
To be clear on this – ThunderRoo did not ask me to do a donation drive for him. That was my idea. The reasons for it are explained in the Editorial post HERE.
I’m going to get a bit unprofessional here. The donations drive was called “crass”, “an insult to hundreds of furs who are suffering, but didn’t get a “popufur” to “rescue” them”, other tweets and comments have come in questioning ThunderRoo’s motives. Wondering if he ever even made the flight out to Atlanta. There have been conspiracy theories and accusations that it was just a way for him to make money.
Well, I know for a fact he made the flight from California to Georgia. I was called by his employer to ask if I wanted to ride along to pick him up. I had to miss that trip, but I did meet ThunderRoo and KaiWulf (his employer) for a late dinner/early breakfast not long after his flight came in. The photo above was taken with my phone at that meeting. Why did I take the photo? I was adding him to my contacts.
I also talked with KaiWulf about the situation when ThunderRoo got the call from his parents. So I had all the information from the personal meeting to him being called back to California. So yes. It is a credible story. It really did happen just as described by myself and ScottJFox.
Again, thank you to all who gave ThunderRoo both moral support, and those that added some financial support. You guys are the reason this fandom is worth being in.
Regards -
Are you fucking KIDDING me?! Are you people seriously going to sit there, bitch and moan because ThunderRoo was fortunate enough to have people willing to step up to the plate and help him out in a time of need? "But there are other furs out there in need too, and they didn't...blah blah blah" And your point is? What next, you're going to bitch about Haiti getting help from countries around the world, when there are others just as needy? If you're that hung up over it, then get up off your ass and start raising donations of your own. ThunderRoo didn't ask for a damn time, and you people bitch and moan because people were generous enough to help out a friend in need? Fuck you. No, seriously. FUCK YOU!
If you're one of these sad fucks that I'm ranting about, feel free to -watch me right now, because I want absolutely NOTHING to do with you.

Last night...
Posted 15 years agoTaking a break from the Memphis Pyramid model (see scraps folder), I decided to brush up on my photoshop skills. (That model WILL be fully textured, after all!) I haven't posted it here, mainly because I used part of someone else's picture.
https://twitter.com/MD_2389/status/.....04107264512000
You can see what I cooked up there. I still have the .psd, with the separate layers, so I can easily swap out that shot of
BucktownTiger with one I took. Yeah, I could technically still use the one there, as long as I give credit to Abrahmlion (
abrahm ). I'm just not comfortable with using someone else's work like that though. I do like the pose, which is why I used it in the first place.
Update on the model:
Obviously I'm still working on it, even though I haven't posted many WIP shots here. In my effort to find an accurate reference for the base of the pyramid, I saw that I really fucked up on the pyramid itself. I got the scale right, but every hi-res photo on google images neglected to show one important detail. The vertical split only goes through two corners, not all four. *headdesk*
http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/2391.....doverheadw.jpg
Now compare this to the satellite shot on google maps: 35.155936, -90.051915
In my attempt to correct this error, I noticed that there isn't a way to do it, without re-doing the main body from scratch. ( http://twitpic.com/3qybkq ) In my attempt to keep the polygon count as low as possible, so that it will be usable on as many computers as possible, fixing my stupid mistake resulted in what you see in that last twitpic link. Sure, I could probably fix that, but it would be a half-ass work-a-round and wouldn't look as good as doing the right way to begin with. This is the curse of having an eye like mine, for fine detail! ;) The good side to this tale, is that at least I caught it now, instead of much later when I was way into adding fine detail, or after it's release!
So, time to get cracking, and back to vectoring!

Listen up furs! Foxes aren't taking it anymore!
Posted 15 years agohttp://www.reuters.com/article/idUS.....70C5Q620110113
(Reuters) - A wounded fox shot its would be killer in Belarus by pulling the trigger on the hunter's gun as the pair scuffled after the man tried to finish the animal off with the butt of the rifle, media said Thursday.
The unnamed hunter, who had approached the fox after wounding it from a distance, was in hospital with a leg wound, while the fox made its escape, media said, citing prosecutors from the Grodno region.
"The animal fiercely resisted and in the struggle accidentally pulled the trigger with its paw," one prosecutor was quoted as saying.
Fox-hunting is popular in the picturesque farming region of northwestern Belarus which borders Poland.

Free art from XtremeCat!
Posted 15 years agohttp://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1910370/
Yeah free arts done by me!
I need refs and such so link them up. Oh and also share this journal too with a link.
I going to be kinda open to anything here and will be doing single character only. I will be coloring these as well just not going to have a complex background.
This is sorta going to be a iron art thing for me as well so I am looking to do a bunch of them to try to get my art better.
So I am going to have 10 slots open for first batch
Better hurry! :)

Fifty-six exotic animals killed in a fire

BROWNSVILLE, TN (WMC-TV) - More than 50 animals died after a Mid-South wildlife sanctuary was destroyed by fire.
Ark R.A.I.N. Wildlife Sanctuary in The Brownsville, Tennessee has worked to save exotic animals for 14 years.
A porcupine and a tiger named India were among the survivors. A kangaroo named Tucker survived, but was burned in the fire. Fifty-six other animals were not as fortunate.
"It's like losing your own children," said Tim Davies, owner of Ark R.A.I.N. "It's devastating."
Davies said the fire started while he and his wife were asleep around 8:00 a.m. Friday.
"The thickest black smoke I've ever seen in my life," said Davies.
Davies said he did everything he could to try to save his animals while stumbling through the smoke.
"I couldn't get the gate undone," he said. "I literally had to kick the gate."
Davies finally realized he needed to get out.
"It was filling my lungs and just hot and thick," said Davies. "I watched the whole roof go up in a total blaze. It looked like a bomb, it went up so fast."
Davies said he believes Tucker was burned because he was trying to get out during the fire.
"He couldn't see us through the smoke," said Davies. "He kept running and trying to get in through the window."
The Davies said the fire also destroyed all of their supplies to take care of the surviving animals. He said they could only get minimal fire insurance because of their exotic pets.
The Brownsville Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
