Wewt! Thanks Amazon!
Posted 15 years agoAfter getting tired of not being able to find a copy of the "How To Train Your Dragon" soundtrack locally, I ordered it off of Amazon for a fraction of what CDs usually cost locally! I'm talking $13 shipped! Here's the really cool part: It wasn't supposed to show up until sometime next week! I picked the standard shipping package, which is around three to five days. It showed up this morning! It wasn't even supposed to SHIP until today! Turns out someone at Amazon made a mistake, and put it out on one-day first class! I just checked my account, and they never billed me for it!
I'm definitely going to be going to Amazon for my music needs from now on. The local stores can suck a fuck!

Way to go cable companies, you're making people pirate again
Posted 15 years agohttp://www.aolnews.com/entertainmen.....n-web/19687303
LOS ANGELES (Oct. 24) -- Broadcasters took a big step toward eliminating free TV shows on the Web after they blocked access to their programming online this month to enforce their demands to be paid.
Recent actions by Fox, ABC, NBC and CBS in two separate fee disputes suggest that after a few years of experimenting with free, ad-supported viewing, broadcasters believe they can make more money from cable TV providers if they hold back some programming online.
That could mean new limits on online viewing are coming: Broadcasters might make fewer of their shows available to begin with, or delay when they become available - say, a month after an episode is broadcast, rather than the few hours it typically takes now.
It would make it tougher for viewers to drop their cable TV subscriptions and watch shows online instead. If cable and satellite TV providers can hang on to more subscribers, broadcasters can then demand more money from them to carry their stations on the lineups.
Last weekend, News Corp.'s Fox made TV programming history by blocking online access to its shows, including "Glee" to 2.6 million Cablevision Systems Corp. broadband Internet subscribers. It was part of a fee dispute over how much Cablevision pays to carry the signals of Fox-owned TV stations.
At around the same time, ABC, NBC and CBS turned off access to full episodes when accessed from the new Google TV Web browser, which became available this month.
Both actions sent the message that broadcasters are demanding to be paid for their shows wherever they are seen - just as new devices are making it easier to watch those shows on regular TV sets.
"Basically, they're trying to work hard to ensure that 'cord-cutting' is not an attractive option anymore," said analyst Derek Baine of research firm SNL Kagan, referring to the phenomenon of people cutting their cable subscriptions and catching shows online to save money.
BTIG Research analyst Rich Greenfield put it more bluntly in a blog post on Monday.
"Consumers must be made to realize that nothing is free anymore," he wrote.
Fox's tactic wasn't entirely successful. It inadvertently drew into the dispute the Cablevision Internet customers who got their TV feeds from other companies such as DirecTV Inc. Fox abandoned its Internet blockade after about 12 hours following protests from several lawmakers, including Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass., a senior member on a House subcommittee that oversees technology and the Internet.
Fox TV stations have remained off Cablevision lineups since Oct. 16, though, as the two companies remained locked in dispute. Cablevision has about 3.1 million TV subscribers in the New York area.
The Walt Disney Co.'s ABC, General Electric Co.'s NBC and CBS Corp. also have been blocking Google TV's Web browser from playing their full shows on websites such as ABC.com and TV.com. The Sony television that came pre-installed with the Google software package can still access their channels like any other TV.
Google Inc. conceded that it could not force the broadcasters to make their content available, even though they do so freely through other outlets.
"It is ultimately the content owner's choice to restrict users from accessing their content on the platform," Google said in a statement.
In fact, the free Hulu online video site is already blocked from mobile phones. To watch shows on such devices, you need the $10-a-month Hulu Plus subscription plan.
ABC, NBC, CBS and Cablevision declined to comment. Fox only reiterated its reason for lifting the online blackout.
The online blockades showed that the broadcasters can target certain Internet users with blackouts based on their Internet providers or services. It also revealed how important it is for them to control who is watching - and paying for - their shows.
For the past several years, broadcasters have been pushing cable and satellite operators to pay more to carry broadcast programming that can also be received over the air with a digital antenna. Because most people now get broadcast stations through subscription services, the cable and satellite operators have been grudgingly paying for the retransmission rights.
Such fees have become an increasingly lucrative revenue stream that makes free over-the-air TV more closely resemble cable channels that require paid subscriptions.
But broadcasters find they now must justify those payments. One way is to limit access to their shows for free online, just as Time Warner Inc.'s HBO and other cable channels limit access to their programs on the Web. Access requires passwords tied to cable subscriptions. Baine and Greenfield said broadcasters would likely move to this "walled garden" approach as well.
Time Warner is pursuing such a model, called "TV Everywhere." It would allow paying TV customers to watch shows from its channels including TNT and TBS online after proving their identity. In a similar move, Time Warner Cable Inc., the nation's second-largest cable TV provider, announced Friday that subscribers who pay for plans that include ESPN would also get access to live sports shows online through ESPN3.com starting Monday. Video on that site is restricted to customers of participating subscription TV providers.
Separately, broadcasters are selling their shows online for as little as 99 cents through places such as Apple Inc.'s iTunes store and on Amazon.com - another method that ensures they get paid.
Collins Stewart analyst Thomas Eagan said Fox's inability to exactly target customers that relied on Cablevision for both video and Internet access could prompt it to simply withdraw some programs from the Web altogether. "At the end of the day, you're more likely to end up seeing content companies changing what they make available for free online," he said.

Home finally!
Posted 15 years agoGot home around noon time today, and man does it feel good to be home! The trip to Virginia was riddled with drama, but not of the BAWWWW kind. If anything could happen, it did. Those of you following my twitter account got a taste of it. On the first day, some idiot pulling two trucks lost control, and spun out to the side of I-40. Well, both sides of the interstate slowed down, to lookie-lou. I had gotten up, to grab one of the dogs, knowing something is probably up. JUST as we come to the crest of a small hill, my dad jumps on the brakes. Inertia takes over, as the 40ft RV (towing a car to boot!) goes from 60MPH to around 20 - 30 in about a second, and my face slams into the dash. Luckily, nothing was broken, or lost. I just had a hell of a busted lip, and a sore jaw for the rest of the day. A couple hours later, just across the TN river bridge (between Parsons and Linden), and some retard had rammed into the back end of a tractor that was mowing the grass along the side of the road. Both sides of the road were blocked, and EMT's were already there when we arrived. After waiting around an hour, the road finally cleared enough for one lane to proceed. Another hour later, we arrived at my Grandmother's place. Strike 3 happened, as I was helping my father un-hook the car. Un-beknownst to us, the battery was almost completely drained for some reason, and the jumper cables were at home! Think that's bad? In the process of unhooking the car, I threw it into park after releasing tension on the towing arms, and the gear shift requires power from the battery to shift! Apparently I had JUST enough in the system to shift into park, and nowhere else. So, off in the RV we went to Wal-mart to buy a set of cables! Got back, jumped the car off, and got everything set up. After all that, we visited for a little bit, then hit the rack.
After spending a the next day there to visit, we headed out for the Norfolk area. To condense this a bit, much fun was had, once we got there. Had a blast playing with the twins, which they enjoyed quite a bit too! On the way home, I passed The Dominator from Storm Chasers! ( http://twitpic.com/2yik1q )
Anyways, that's it for now!

Impromptu concert at MFM2010 by Bucktown Tiger
Posted 15 years agoMFM, day three
Posted 15 years agoGot up a bit later than I wanted, just like the day before, only this time I wasn't feeling so funky. (aside from having a semi-hoarse throat from the karaoke, and laughing, the night before) Eventually arrived at ~10:30-ish, and cruised the dealer's den to see if anything had changed from the day before. Hung out with
bucktowntiger for a few minutes, and got him to sign my MFM t-shirt. Made my way down to the Furplanet table, and chatted with
teiran in-between crowds, and eventually got him and
Fuzzwolf to sign my shirt as well.
A little later in the day, Bucktown held an impromptu concert in the hotel bar, to help raise money for Tiger Haven. I was getting the munchies, so I ate lunch with
NoScopeLegend while we listened. (Which you guys should totally buy his CDs, if you haven't already!) Just glad I actually GOT food this time, which was surprisingly good! Best fried chicken tenders I've ever had! (and really in-expensive too!) The concert lasted a good hour and a half, which was fine by me!
After that ended, I killed a few minutes before the Masquerade. The Masquerade itself was a riot! There were some really good acts, particularly one fursuiter that played a mean saxophone! Fun was had, even though I was nearly blinded several times by some jackass with a camera flash from hell! Seriously, if you know your flash is that fucking powerful, don't sit around other people! Stand off to the side, so the rest of us can enjoy the show without having our retinas burned out of existence! I know you want your good shot, but have some fucking consideration for your fellow furries! We want to enjoy it as well!
Not long after that was closing ceremonies, which was short and sweet. Apparently, no drama llamas were to be had during the con, which either had just over 500 furries, or 600 (depending on whether someone had a math flub, or typo'd on twitter) in close proximity. After closing ceremonies, was the ice cream social, and outdoor fursuit playtime. When you add an inflatable balloon, that you can get inside of, fun will be had! After goofing off a little with the fursuiters, I went inside to nom on some of the free ice cream (choco taco ftw!), and goofed off with some of the steampunkers. Then I went back to goof with the fursuiters some more, before heading inside to try and find an after-party to attend!
In my search of a party to attend, I ran across some local furs, and hung out with them for a few minutes. Spotted Bucktown trying to haul his keyboard and stand, so I offered to give him a hand, to save him from possibly dropping something rather expensive down the stairs! He was going to hold an impromptu shopwrecker concert in the critter con suite, but was denied due to lack of space. So, we hauled the goods to the elevator, and went back to his room to chill for a few min. (and met the infamous Lioness that he's mentioned from time to time on his streams, or twitter.) After that, it turned into another search for a party to hang out at, only to find the only good party got killed by security! No idea what exactly happened, other than someone's fursuit getting ruined. (odd thing is, they left the music playing)
After some searching, I ran across
kyo_foxtrot,
Rekkie,
Sairo, Guardian, and a few others that I don't even remember the names to! (Sorry guys, but I couldn't really see your badges from where I was sitting anyways!) Oh man, from the moment I sat down, till I got up and had to leave for home, I laughed and generally had a good time! (Unfortunately, the bar was closed at that point, so I couldn't buy Kyo his drink, so I'll have to raincheck that.)
This whole weekend was by far the best weekend I've had to date! Got to meet some interesting people, some that I've been talking to on here or elsewhere, and those that I never heard of before. You've all shown me a great time, and I look forward to attending next year's con! (and possibly Furry Fiesta, provided I can find a decent job between now and then!)
Now comes the fun task of sorting through nearly 400 MB of pictures, and finding some way to post them here w/o getting nailed by the admins. (and not in a good way! Those hammers aren't ribbed for my pleasure! *looks at Kyo* )
Now, I leave you with the funniest part of the Dead Dog party!

(Unfortunately, the bar was closed at that point, so I couldn't buy Kyo his drink, so I'll have to raincheck that.)This whole weekend was by far the best weekend I've had to date!
(apologies for the breaks, my camera caps video recording to one minute)
MFM, day two
Posted 15 years agoWhile I had fun, this wasn't as fun as Friday.
I woke up a little later than I intended, feeling funky as hell from the free pizza given out the day before. (Dominos...ugh!) I almost didn't come because of it, but I downed a couple glasses of milk in an attempt to settle my stomach (which eventually worked) and drove anyways. I got there just in-time to catch Bucktown finishing his setup in the Dealer's Den. (one accessible from the hotel front lobby) Bought two copies of his newest album, Scritching The Ivories, for myself and my folks. (mine got signed!) I hung out there for a bout half an hour just chatting with the guy, and after watching the fursuit parade, I eventually moved on to cruise the den to see if there was anything new. I pretty much killed time till 2pm, when the video room was scheduled to play UP!. (For those that haven't seen it, it's a DAMN good movie!) After that, I chilled in the Critter Con Suite (literally! The place is as cold a fucking MEAT LOCKER!) and MST3K'd part of The Stand for the better part of an hour.
After that, I tried my best to find something to do to kill time before the fursuit games. Watching them play musical chairs was an absolute riot! Every damn one of them were cheating, and it was hilarious watching them do it! XD One of them would grab a chair, and run with it around the "path". Another grabbed a chair, and ran across the room with it, before rejoining the line! (got this on video!) Best part was when one of them decided that he liked a particular chair, so the guy with the mic decided to have a little fun with this, by having him taped TO the chair! Problem was, they had to haul him out of the loop! It took six suiters to haul this guy out of the loop! :P
After the games ended (Chip won, btw), I cruised the dens some more, and finally ran across Rekkie outside the second Den/Artist Alley. Then I prowled the hotel hallway some more, made the loop back around to the stairs, and joined an inpromptu "Dog Con". ("Hosted" by one of the folks with a service animal.) Goofed off there until security broke it up, since we were occupying the stairs. Then I prowled around a bit, and then hung out in the bar area with some local furs. Had impromptu karaoke, which the guy playing the piano was totally cool with! Here comes the shitty part... By this time, I was really fucking hungry, so I decided to order some chicken tenders and a soda from the bar. (remember, I'm driving back and forth, so I can't drink...) The sign outside the bar stated the kitchen closes at 10pm. After waiting half an hour, the bartender comes up to me (after going back to the kitchen and literally asking "where the fuck is the food?!" and informs me that the kitchen closed at 9, and the order had been placed at 9:10. Needless to say, I was pissed! The bartender was very understanding as to why I was pissed (I didn't vent, but she could definitely see it in my face.), and my drink was "on the house". I downed the coke as quickly as I could, and left. After explaining what happened to me, to the other furs that I was at the bar with (they left just a couple min before the bartender walked up to me), we decided to blow off some steam and attend the planned karaoke in the ampetheatre. Had a good time there, and we all got up on stage to sing "Yesterday" by Paul McCartney. After getting a pretty good reaction from the crowd (having good vocals helps! :P), I left for home, and hit the pillow at 1am. Literally.
And that ends day 2 of MFM

MFM, day one
Posted 15 years agoWow, I knew this was going to be fun, but I had no idea! Not only did I get to meet some people that I've been wanting to see face to face for a while, but I got mobbed by fursuiters! XD I am definitely coming back next year! I laughed so hard during the opening ceremonies, I just about lost my voice! :P
I also enjoyed getting a rise out of Fuzzwolf, when I gave him the gift I had been working on for a few days now. Now to find Kyo, and buy him the drink I owe him. :P

MFM, so excited!
Posted 15 years agoI dunno if I'll be able to sleep at all tonight, with all the excitement tomorrow! Got my gift to the knotcast crew finished earlier today, and all I'm going to say is that it's something that Fuzzwolf will definitely approve of! XD I'll be taking a shitload of pics, and try to see what I can see.
If you see me hanging around, don't be afraid to walk up and say hi. I promise not to bite too much! ;)
