Vinci and Arty classic archive
Posted a year agoHey friends, sorry for disappearing again. We’ve been going through it.
I’m just popping in to post the new link for the classic Vinci and Arty comics: vnaclassic.bsky.social . I’m also providing a little bit of context and behind the scenes stuff for most of the strips, so if you’re curious please come have a look.
Meet the Sunspots is still moving forward! We have some goals to try and make for the year that we’ll be focusing on, including shorts.
I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Pride and that you’re all well and being kind to yourselves. I sure AF haven’t XD

MtS project signups now live!
Posted 2 years agoSorry for leaving you all hanging. I’ve been really busy getting this animation project officially off the ground. I think it’s go time now!
Back when I was actively working on Vinci & Arty, the most common question I got was “Will Greer ever show up?” And now, years later, I’ve been getting feedback from people who said they felt comforted and seen as queer teens reading the strip all those years ago. I’ve taken all of that to heart with this current project, and I’m hoping to, with the help of a team, make a coming of age story for those of us who dance to our own beats. The main characters are Vinci & Arty’s children but the guys will of course be involved. :)
That said, signups for cast & crew are live, located here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1.....viewform?pli=1
Our Discord channel: https://discord.gg/mkpmeNQ7N7
A MASSIVE thank you to everyone who has signed up already. I can’t believe this is finally happening; I’ve been freaking out all weekend.
Also one more thing: I’ve moved to Bluesky and my account is located here : lafterlight.bsky.social that’s probably the easiest place to get in touch rn

Posted 2 years agoI keep going to make a journal talking about the things that have happened, but I always end up deleting it. I think I’m afraid of pity or something, I dunno, but either way, it might just be best to gloss over it for now. Instead, I think I’ll do a small summary about the positives.
- The kids: All growing into amazing, creative people that we’re insanely proud of. All three of the older kids are artists in one way or another. Val is 13 and one of the FUNNIEST people I know. They have the quickest wit! They’ve also gotten into suiting, with a dog character named Levi. Moxie is 10 and a fiend for science; I think she’s going to go into entomology. Meriweather is 9, an incredible artist and a huge fan of gaming.
We also welcomed our youngest, Kismet, in March 2020. She’s 3 now, and very into music.
I adore these kids; they keep me going
Cats: since 2020 we’ve returned to special needs cat rescue on the side, working with our incredible friends at the furry fandom homegrown group Rocket Cat Rescue. Although Blue Dog (Booboo) is the only cat remaining from our Old Guard, we’ve still got some great feline company. I have an ESA again; his name is Dolby Purround Sound and he’s one of the coolest cats you’ll meet.
Recently we’ve been fostering a mom and her six kittens, a few of whom are still available for adoption! We’ve gotten to be there for these guys since their first breaths so this was a really special experience.
Toys: LPS is still one of my favorites, but it’s on a hiatus so I haven’t actively collected any for awhile. Currently I’m especially obsessed with Bumbumz so I’ve just been sticking with those. I’d love to connect with fellow Bumz collectors because holy moly are they coming out with some cool ones.
Art: I’ve started active work on a pilot for Meet the Sunspots, and will be looking to bring on cast and crew in the near future. It’s my big dream to get this done and I’m hoping to find folks that are interested in working with me on this. I’ll be looking for writers, boarders, etc but I’m wanting to have funding to hire folks on properly first. Really intent on doing it right.
Aside from that, I’m not sure what all else to say. Arty and I just celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary and it feels like the first still.
Oh!! Yes, almost forgot. My name is Cecil now :)

Posted 2 years agoHey folks! I’m trying to balance my socials rn and wanted to poke my nose in here and see if I can reconnect with any Twitter moots!
Any BumBumz collectors?
Posted 2 years agoSince Littlest Pet Shop is on hiatus until next year, my toy collector ass has instead been fixated on Bumbumz, a newly released offshoot of Squishmallows. They’re a line of beanbag-like surrealist anthropomorphic plush characters with ultra soft textures. And when I say surrealist, I mean surrealist. My current favorite is a bottle of soy sauce named Spence. And I’m dying for the upcoming blender character.
The only problem with these guys are that they’re linked to Squishmallows, which are currently seeing a level of popularity I haven’t seen since I was a hallmark employee getting followed through the parking lot by hungry beanie baby hunters. Some of the early squads like the Valentine’s set are seeing some redonkulous prices x.x
I was hoping there might be a small bumbumz community developing here since they have the anthro element to them!

I was gonna do an update on what’s been going on with us but I think I’d much rather hear from you folks instead.

Also I’m a technological ditz so further apologies while I refigure things out. Hope you’ve all been managing ok; things have been quite turbulent

A little more on Albert Temple
Posted 8 years agoIt's taken me a few days to be able to sit down and write a farewell to Al. Like many people in the fandom, we were close and his death was shocking and a very hard hit. I've spent the past few days in a haze, knowing he's gone but still some part of me hoping beyond hope that somehow this is all a huge understanding and he'll come back from some business trip and reassure everyone he's ok.
I first met Albert back in 1997, my first year in the furry fandom. I was 17 and dealing with a great deal of emotional abuse in my home life, and one of my escapes was drawing cartoon animals. I'd come up with a lop rabbit character based on a pet of mine named Trixi, as well as a hyper little African pygmy hedgehog named Haley, and I would draw and RP these characters on IRC. Albert was someone whose art I'd discovered through what was at that point called the SCFA, and I worked up the nerve to email him and tell him what a fan I was. To my delight, he responded warmly, welcoming me to the fandom and encouraging me to apply to SCFA, which later became Yerf.
Al, known by his genial cat character, Gene Catlow, wasn't one to put on airs. He genuinely loved meeting people, encouraging them and acting as a cheerleader. He was not only a driving force for creativity, but for camaraderie, as he was fond of drawing responses for everyone who reached out to him or drew his character. He really was one of the reasons that Yerf took on the interactive community feel that it did; he loved tag-teaming with other artists to create round robin stories through art, often letting others take the lead and then building on whatever plot points they came up with. His ideas were silly and out-of-the-box, but never mean-spirited. He was the creator of the Time Wrinkle collaborative story on Yerf, which later ended up inspiring Arty's Guardians stories, which in turn led to what would become Vinci & Arty. He was responsible for bringing many Yerfers together. If it weren't for Gene, I wouldn't have met other beloved friends, like

Gene was able to recognize what was going on with my home life, and he and Thomas often got together with me and provided much needed distractions and support. He was one of the biggest cheerleaders for

I was never Trixi or Vinci or even Candy to him; he always called me "dear" or "SuperMom", and I always called him Geners. It was humbling how much confidence he had in me, especially with how little I had in myself, but he was like that. He always believed the best in you, and he always -wanted- the best for you. He was everyone's cheerleader. He made you want to live up to the person he saw you as.
He was there for so many milestones. When I moved back east to be with Arty, he was there to help load the moving van. When we got married, he was one of our groomsmen. He was there when we moved back to the bay area, and the day after I had Valentine, he came to visit us in the hospital. We saw him frequently at cons and get-togethers, and he would drop by just to keep us company whenever I was laid up on the couch during my time on chemotherapy. Sometimes we'd get a flurry of art done during a get-together, other times we just chatted and joked around. Most of the time, we'd go to a local Mexican chain down here that he loved called El Grullense.
Many of his fans and friends had an inkling something was wrong when Gene Catlow didn't upload last week and they were correct. Geners was proud of his long-running webcomic, which he never, ever missed an update for. He had the story all plotted out, with plans to focus on smaller stories in-universe after the main story was complete. Gene Catlow ran from 2000-2017 without a single missed update until last week. That's a pretty amazing feat!
For the folks who didn't know Gene, I'd recommend going through his Yerf historical archive located here: https://yerf.metafur.org/tempalbe You can see how warm a person he was through his pictures and descriptions, and none of it was an act. He was completely genuine in how humble and warm he was, and how much he loved everyone. In the 20 years I've known him, I never once heard him talk bad about anyone. In person, he seemed to constantly have the energy of someone at least a third his age, always smiling and even bouncing excitedly. He never drank caffeine, and we joked that it's because he never needed it, he was that naturally energetic.
I remember we ended up having the same flight home from Anthrocon 99, and we made sure to get seats next to each other. Neither of us were comfortable flying, and so we spent the flight joking and distracting each other. At one point, I smelled what I thought was smoke and started to fret, and I remember him turning to me and saying, "Dear, if the plane is on fire, it's not going to SMELL LIKE BACON." Turns out they were just getting breakfast ready!
What do you say to someone to whom you owe so much, who left far, far too soon? Thank you doesn't seem like enough, but Al, thank you so much. Thank you for watching out for me, for believing in me, for encouraging me, both in good times and bad. For seeing the good in me when I had a hard time seeing it for myself. Thank you for the joy you brought, not only to our family but to everyone. Thank you for being an inspiration with your kindness and love. I wish you were still here with us, but I'm forever grateful to have known you and you will never be forgotten. I love you, my dear friend.
Al...
Posted 8 years agoGeners, you are loved so very much, and you always will be.
State of the Sunspot house
Posted 9 years agoThank God this year is almost done.
I've been pretty vague about what's been going on, but starting back in the spring, I began to have digestive troubles on top of the cardiovascular stuff that was occurring, which progressively worsened to the point of being unable to eat solid food. I'm on a completely liquid diet at the moment, and working with my doctors to figure out what's going on. I've lost 10 lbs since this started, which sucks, because I didn't have much to begin with. I've been hospitalized a couple times for it and had some exploratory stuff done but so far it's still drawing a blank. What I DO know is that it's not anything like a mass or something super bad like that.
The past couple weeks have been particularly rough, as while I was having a hospital stay, Arty was recovering from surgery. He broke his arm pretty badly getting off of a hoverboard, so the BOTH of us have been out of it, sick and in pain. Our poor kids. x.x It's been a mess.
THAT SAID, Benlysta has turned out to be a godsend. I've been on it an entire year, and it's reduced the inflammation in my joints to the point where I'm having a LOT more normal days. In fact I think if I weren't having this current belly issue, I'd be feeling pretty darn good!
My goal for this year was to try to get to the point where I needed less meds, but unfortunately I'm on more now than I was at this point last December. But, I'm coming to terms with it. I don't -like- having to take a bunch of different daily pills just to do stuff like eat, I miss being able to just DO stuff, but if it's going to help me be better able to function than I'm going to suck it up. I would be lying if I didn't miss being atypical, though. I told Arty the other day that I liked getting out of the house because I missed feeling 'normal'; he corrected me and said what I was looking for wasn't being 'normal', but 'average'. And I guess that's true! I'm a perfectly normal lupus patient. <:)
So as far as lupus is concerned, the inflammation is under control but I've still got a couple things that have me only at about half my typical productivity. I'm keeping Stupid Fortune Cookie at the weekly pace for now, as I did with Vinci & Arty years back, but eventually my goal is to bump it to twice a week after I am feeling better!
Oh yeah, btw, Stupid Fortune Cookie launched this year officially, so I guess that's one positive, at least in the sense that I get to go back to drawing comics, which I've missed terribly! Vinci & Arty was the prequel to Stupid Fortune Cookie (I don't consider it a sequel), so it's an absolute joy to finally be able to introduce readers to some of the newer stuff like the sagittarians, the expanded cast, yadda yadda. V&A was my practice run, and I really hope those of you who read the old strip will be able to get into the new one, and I'm also hoping that SFC will introduce new readers to the characters so they can go back and check out the hot mess that V&A was too. <:)
So, to any folks who are interested:
Stupid Fortune Cookie: www.stupidfortunecookie.com
Vinci & Arty (unfinished, archive): www.vincifruit.com
The kids are all doing great. ALL THREE are now fully sentient. I'm still marveling at having complete conversations with Meriweather, who's 2 and a half now. He's also still the sweetest little boy I have ever met. Moxie is 4 and still a firecracker, but a cuddly and affectionate one! Her favorite character in the world is Luigi from Super Mario bros., and we suspect it's because she relates to being Player 2, given what a big personality her older sister has! Val hasn't changed much, just gotten older. She's still the ridiculously high charisma machine that she's always been, and I'm so proud of her! It was fun when they were all babies, but now that they're becoming little people with their own personalities we're just having a total blast. I am so very grateful I have been blessed with these littles; it was a dream come true for me personally.
We will likely be at FC this year! Arty's got to get some art for his cast after all. :)
Hope you all not only have a wonderful New Year's, but the rest of 2017 as well! I think we all deserve a great year and I'm gonna do my best to try and contribute to making it good.
Stupid Fortune Cookie NEW pages start this week!
Posted 9 years agoHey folks!
So, the first 8 pages (which you guys already saw here last year) have run on Stupid Fortune Cookie, meaning that the rest of the content from here on out is completely new! So I wanted to start plugging it a little more coz' I've been working hard on it!
http://www.stupidfortunecookie.com <=== strip page. There is a forum ready to go but not in use yet, and the character diaries are up. :)
www.patreon.com/stupidfortunecookie <== the patreon page! Patrons get some fun perks and content delivered early, but the comic will remain free for everyone to read. My intent is not for this to be a paywall, but to use any tips I make off of Patreon on bills, supplies and childcare (to give me more time for the comic!)
My stream is located at www.tigerdile.com/stream/stupidfortunecookie . I have a comic page stream on Sundays, and then a mid-week commission and illustration stream on either Wed or Thurs.
Here's a link to a journal detailing some of the SFC perks and the vignettes: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/7857583/
If you've never read the original hot mess, Vinci & Arty, it is here: www.vincifruit.com You don't necessarily need to read V&A to jump into SFC, but it'll introduce you to quite a few cast members. :)
And my Twitter, where I post a lot of concept art, sketches, WIPs, and character blurbs!

I really hope you guys like the story! It's been a joy to get to go back and write for these guys again.
The new page is already up for Patrons! Thanks so much guys!

Special casting call
Posted 9 years agoHey folks! Got an open casting call for a Stupid Fortune Cookie vignette role! This character will be a supporting character, with multiple lines and panels, so this is a more significant role. They are also (in the context of the story) a make-a-wish patient, hence why I am doing something special with this casting call instead of the usual protocol.
Because the character's role is as someone receiving a make-a-wish foundation wish, I would like to limit auditions to the following:
a: someone else (not you or your personal character) who's been having a hard time, medically or no, that you feel deserves the role.. please feel free to volunteer them in a comment, but make sure you have their permission in case they don't want the cameo!
b: A younger furry that you know who hasn't had their fursona drawn yet.
Please volunteer someone (again, make sure this is something they'd be down for!) in the comments for this journal and I will select and note whomever wins the part. :) Let me know why you think they're the best fit for the role! Because it is a special role, we will not accept self auditions this time, sorry; please select someone aside from yourself. Thanks so much guys!
