Also, there's a pretty aggressive wind storm out and I'm worried the power might also flicker during or go out.
So, I might just sleep soonish and either squeeze one in the next couple of days, or just do a longer one this coming friday. x..x

Was gonna do my weekly sketch thing tonight but..
General | Posted 5 years agoI'm not feelin it tonight, my brain is in other places and I've been finishing some larger projects pretty well this week, so I wanna keep up that pace. I'm also gonna be busier this weekend with a bit less time for the sketches and will be away for a couple days monday and tuesday, which I'm gonna take other work with me for that.
BUTT... Next Friday is my birthday, and I'm gonna do a longer stream that day for sketches and maybe some other stuff too.

- Please keep the idea simple enough, no BG elements and such.

Got the basics imported over with the WIP anims. Some holes, mostly in the state-tweens.
I'm working on top of a copy of Gejhi, hence why he turns into a broken palette version of Gejhi in the tweens and the attacks I did. Hahah.
The guard walk was super easy to implement, so yay for that. Hoping to have at least a decently filled WIP ready by the end of the month. Tryin to pump out at least one new rough animation for him a day.

Gejhi Vs SoR2 Minigame (Youtube)

The beginning refreshes once because I was doing this in watch-mode, and needed to disable the AI for Gejhi, so I could play, and reset to disable the AI interactions with items. That part will be edited out soon.
This video shows a good purpose for the free-turning ability I've coded into my system. Gejhi here doesn't have to rely on the broken auto-turn function for situations like this, being able to face and target any foe he wants.
I botched my combos a handful of times. I've been tired lately. Hahah. I tired to use a variety of things here to show a nice range of skills or move uses, but I ended up using the bread n' butter combos most often.
I tweeked the settings in the minigame config area of SoR2's files, and made the enemies react much faster and smarter so they aren't so easy. I have the difficulty set to hard (mostly because the lifebars a long enough and this minigame takes a while already) I don't want it to take forever to beat every boss.
The version I have of the SoR2 Minigame is "Update 34" and I made some fixes to some emeny hurt-boxes as they were properly lined up to their sprites and combos would often drop when they are juggled.
The special camera control was designed by me. It's built into my characters, and for minigame's like this, I have it in "player focused" mode, which will move the camera based on the players facing and movements.
The part with the big panel to destroy wasn't meant to deal with the wide-screen or zoom feature, so it ends up letting me move to the other side of it. Hah.
I also have the "special enemy effects" turned on that makes them appear with random buffs and such. Adds extra variety.
I also set the option to make them eat items to make it a lil harder.
Will likely make use of some of this video in a "promo" video for him.

Just cranked it out earlier today, will be filling more in soon.

Random Video I posted on my twitter yesterday figure I'll start cross posting stuff here as well.
Just a quick match of me screwing around with my boy Gejhi vs Segalow (by The_None).
Gejhi's almost done, and I plan to release him to the public over the next few days even though there is still some work I'd like to do, but he's far enough along to no longer call a beta. I'll give him more updates later on as I work on my other critters.
His AI is mostly done, at least all the base-work is finished. I'll add the more advanced elements to the AI later on. I don't wanna keep holding him back, it's been long and I'm eager to stat cranking out more work for other characters. I wanna add some more sounds to him. There's also a few animations I'll probably add to Gejhi later on as well, mostly just taunt/win/intro animations that can wait until later. Gameplay wise, he's pretty much finished.
I tried to show a variety of stuff in this video that he can do, but didn't show everything. I'll probably throw together some clips for another video, asl well as a moveset demo and "how to play" vid after I put him out for the public.
Finished works will be free to download on my Patreon, but beta/WIPs will be for patrons only.
Beta/WIPs of my other critters, as well as various animation assets will soon be available along side Gejhi on my Patreon, it's also likely where I'll be posting my downloads for my characters in bundles, for both finished, and betas.
One of the reasons Gejhi took so long was because I was still exerimenting and trying out various things to decided what I wanted for a play system. My system is very odd in terms of the standard MUGEN formate, he doesn't play like a standard fighting game, but with a mixture of beat'em-up elements thrown in. It's kinda Smash-like in some ways, but the base combat is still a lot like a normal fighter. All of that is settled now, so my future characters will come along much faster, as I'll be working ontop of the work I did for Gejhi, just new animations work will be the bulk of the time spent.
Just figured I'd post a quick video for now to have something new here and roll along with new stuff soonish.
Also, sorry the video is so quiet, I tend to watch/listen to stuff with I develop/test/play with MUGEN, so I keep the volume low on it. I'll try to remember to pump it up for future vids. The quality is a bit lower too because I smashed the recording down to fit onto twitter, I'll not be doing that again for stuff I plan to post here.

Gejhi's Public Release, Patreon Asset Dump and More.
General | Posted 5 years agoI'm aiming to finally put Gejhi out for the public at some point next week. There's still more I want to do to his AI, but I'm tired of delaying him and I'm eager to produce my other critters. That said, any other updates to Gejhi's AI or other stuff for the cahracter will come down the line in later updates. I'll never fucking release him if I wait until he's "perfect" and some of the AI things I plan to do down the line are pretty complicated and will take a considerable amount of additional work and testing. I don't wanna keep holding him back.
His AI is already pretty damn good as the base that I have, SO, I'm just gonna add in a few small things, and the difficulty dampener and call him ready for the public.
I'll also be adding in a lil version stamp that appears on his corner at the start of a match, indicating the version date/number, so it's easy to find out when I've put out an update by comparing that to the listing on my website. ALL characters will share the same stamp, for consistency, even if they didn't get an update on that particular pass, I'll I have to do is swap out a sprite on all characters released for the public.
WITH THAT, I'll also be doing big asset/animation dump on my patreon of ALL characters I've done work for, so far, so patreons can have more than just Gejhi and whoever else I'm working. This means that many unfinished works will be in the asset dumps. This partly going into my new approach to producing this work. Now that I have my framework and play-system complete, I'm now going to focus on pushing characters to playable betas as quickly as possible, this means that I'm gonna mostly push on doing low-detail animations frames to push the assets into the engine quickly, and THEN detail them later for finishing to public release. This lets me also experiment and not commit too hard on asset creation if I end up changing my mind on an attack and scrap anything during development and testing, only spend more time on the details once the idea is solid.
So, I hope to have a handful of other critters in beta available for patrons in the coming weeks with this new plan. This will speed things up considerably, plus, I've changed my approach to animations which seems to be working out for the better anyway in terms of time-spent. So, yay.

Controller Woes. I'm cursed.
General | Posted 5 years agoI'm kinda reaching my wits end with controllers. I've been trying a ton of different controllers and somehow SOMETHING breaks on every one of them.
I used to stick to the basic logitek ones, they are cheap, and last about as long as I'd generally expect with them, the buttons or depad eventually take a shit because the rubber bit on the inside starts to rip. So, I figured instead of going through a bunch of those, I'd try gettin something better to last longer, but I apparently just can't win.
One of my desires for a controller is to have the dpad ABOVE the left stick. I wan't that left stick down in the middle next to the right stick. I use the middle part of my thumb to use the dpads and can't do that when it's down low.
I've searched and tried various controllers that seemed to have good reviews, BUT, something breaks on them within months. Everything from cheap to pricier controllers. I've had directions break, buttons start sticking, analog sticks break and not read correct inputs. It makes me think I've gotta somehow be doing it after going through this many controllers, but I honestly don't think I'm all that hard on them, I think I'm pretty gentle.
I though I've finally found a great controller with the 8BitDo "pro" controller. Felt great, had an some mechanical issues with it being too easy for down inputs on the dpad when pressing left or right, but whatever, I was adapting to that.
Y button starts to stick. Can't open it to investigate. TINY screws that require an allan key smaller than any of our sets have here.
Fuck me.
Granted, this is the most used button on the controller. It's used for my attack button in smash, attack button for SoR4 more recently. and attack 1 for my mugen stuff, but STILL this shouldn't be happening when I got the damn thing over the winter. I've had logiteks last longer. This is particularly shitty because I really liked this controller. The feel of it was one of the better ones I've had.
It's still useable, but the sticking makes me think the rubber inside it is already shitting out. So, rip.
The only controllers I've owned that lasted YEARS were Gamecube controllers. The last one I owned finally started having an issue with the stick and I haven't replaced it. I so prefer the square shaped button layout, and the Dpad's in the wrong spot and very small.
Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm tempted to get another 8BitDo pro and hope I just had bad luck, because I can use it with the Switch and the PC.

A Note About my MUGEN content and Patreon
General | Posted 5 years agoJust to put it out there, incase it wasn't clear in my previous posts about it. The Patreon is just for early-access to my work-in-progress MUGEN content. I do plan to make public releases of the "finished" versions of every character, along with any patches I make for them as I expand the roster.
The finished work I DO plan to charge for will be game work outside of MUGEN, for my "proper" game.
The Patreon is there for people who wanna try out my MUGEN stuff as I'm workin on it and wanna support my work on it along the development, but the end result of everything I have plans for MUGEN, will be free to the public once it's finished.
A lot of the work I do for MUGEN will carry over into my eventual "real" game I make. MUGEN gives me realistic shorter term goals for the work while still giving people something to play while I slowly work toward the larger goal. The cogs are turning for that also, and I'll be giving updates about that as it develops.

General | Posted 5 years agoAs the title says, I'm considering adding in some informational material to it, possibly as a 3rd tier. With this, I'd give detailed information on various aspects of my creative process and maybe even patron only-streams for Q&A type stuff about how I go about developing my MUGEN stuff.
The general informational stuff will include how I went about coding in all of my various special features and mechanics, and how I've been working on my AI, as well as info for both how I go about spriting and my designing within Mugen.
If this would interest people, I'll get on preparing presentations for such things.

General | Posted 5 years agoSo yeah, did my first stream in a while today and it was plagued with connection issues. I seeeeeeeeemingly got it stable super late at night, but I'm gonna do a bit more research and try to get it more stable for tomorrow.

Update: I should be gettin a wire ran to my room later this week. found were an old cable wire used to be ran into here, so shouldn't be too hard at all to reuse that for internet. Woo.

In NY, Job's Closed. Time to Stream This Week!
General | Posted 6 years agoIn light of my job being closed until the 19th of next month, I'm gonna use this as a means to get myself into streaming consistently.
I'm not sure exactly how I'm gonna structure it, but I might stream in the later afternoon into the evenings, or break it up to do an afternoon and night stream in smaller portions than one massive stream.
I'll be working on various things during them, commissions and personal art and animations and stuffs. (Will have NSFW content more than likely)
I'm gonna go mad being home all this time, hahah. So, this'll be good for me for that reason, but also something I'd like to keep up in some form after this shit blows over.
I'm gonna do the first one tomorrow, likely in the later afternoon around 5 or 6pm EST. Will announce it ahead of time!

Welp, job's closed until at least April 19th.
General | Posted 6 years agoI was told it's gonna be until April 19th and will get another call in 2 or 3 weeks.
So yeah, looks like I'm gonna be full-time art for a while then.
So yeah, with that, I will set up a streaming schedule me thinks to make the most of the situation. I shall post updates after the weekend with my plans for that.

Anyway, yeah, Got told not to go back to work until called again. Hahah. Oh well, more art/commission time.
I might use this as an excuse to force myself to stream over the weekend/coming week while doing various things.
I should also like, post the 20 things I've not posted. (Sorry I'm still bad at that.)
I've only been trickling some mugen/game updates to twitter lately. I need to stop being a butt and dump more small stuff here too.
