I've currently got quite a bit on my plate, and I'm a bit behind on my Patreon posts for the month, so I'm closing my queue to accepting additional commissions until further notice. So back around Christmas, I did a Christmas party group pic, as seen here
I would like to start a similar picture for summer, only this time with a backyard pool party/BBQ. As with last time, one hour of work ($25) will get your character in, done in the simpler style I used for the previous group pic. Characters could be prepping food, eating, swimming in the pool, sitting and talking, or just goofing off in the background. I'll be planning to start this on August 1st, this Tuesday. I'll focus just on the group pic for a few days before closing it off. If you're interested, catch one of my streams this coming week! I usually start streaming sometime after 5pm eastern time. Payment will be handled via PayPal invoice. I'll need a character ref, as well as an activity you want your character to be doing in the pic.

I won't be setting a hard limit on character slots, but if the picture starts to get too crowded, I may cut things off early. Or possibly split things up into multiple pics if there's enough interest. Also, I'll be wanting to keep this image 'G' rated, so leave your kinks at the door!

Hey guys, I'm putting a temporary freeze on accepting new commissions because I have a lot of work backed up in my queue. Also, given that I'm getting more work than I can keep up with, I'm going to be raising my prices just a bit. Any new work I take on starting in June, my hourly rate will then be $25 per hour of work, instead of the current rate of $20. Note that all the work currently in my queue will be completed at the current rate, and will not be affected by the new pricing. Once my queue is empty, or nearly empty, I'll open up for commissions again at the new rate.

So like, I HAVE a Twitter and a Tumblr and such, and I don't use them as much as I probably should. Like, I heard having a Twitter was great for artists, but I guess posting my art on there just seems kinda redundant? I dunno. And then every time I get on, all I see are a bunch of political tweets. I feel kinda silly just tweeting random things that happen throughout the day because one, my life isn't really that interesting, and two, every time I DO post a tweet I'm just thinking, 'who's gonna care?'

I think maybe the same goes with journals here on FA. My last journal was back in February when I first set up my Patreon. I've always been more of a listener than a talker, and I never really feel the need to say anything unless someone either makes me mad, is being dumb, or I've got something important I feel I just gotta say. Am I just too introverted even for the internet? Probably, lol

Welp, I've been wanting to get a Patreon page running since back in September. Today, I finally built up the nerve to launch the page!

I've settled on three patron tiers to start with. The Tip Jar tier is $1 per update, and will grant access to a weekly full-color image as well as a pack of silly doodles I drew for fun. The Sketchbook tier is $3 per update. This grants all the rewards of the previous tier, as well as access to a hires file of the weekly image, and a pack of practice sketches and in-progress works that were drawn throughout the week. The Desktop tier is $5 per update, and grants all the rewards of the previous tiers. In addition, this grants you access to the raw Photoshop file of the weekly image, and enters you in a monthly raffle for a colored sketch or speed paint.

I plan on updating once a week; probably on Sundays. The monthly raffle will take place at the start of the following month after donations have been collected. Each weekly Patreon image will be posted to my other art pages one month after its release, so if you aren't a patron then you won't be missing out on my non-commission work, and all of my commission work will still be posted here on FA as usual.

I'm still learning how to use the site and working out the distribution system for the different tier awards, so my apologies if I'm leaving anything out. If you have any questions, I would be more than happy to answer them below!

Hey everyone, I've been offline for the past few days doin Christmas Eve and Christmas day celebrations with my family, and then taking the day after to recoup some of my energy.
It was a wonderful couple of days and I hope you all enjoyed your time with friends or family, or however you spent your holiday!
But now I'm getting back to the old grind, and the first thing on my list is getting that overdue YCH piece done. In tonight's stream I'll be doing the flat color and then getting as much of the simple shading done as I can. If possible, I would like to finish it tonight, or maybe tomorrow at the latest.
After that I'll be picking the other items off my queue, which are in various stages of completion. I won't be taking on any additional work until these are complete to ensure there are no further distractions. The goal is gonna be to have everything done before New Year's Eve, so I can enter 2017 with a clean slate.

This has been a wonderfully productive year and it's thanks to all of you! While I've improved a lot this year, there are things I can do better and I'm going to try to improve just as much this coming year, or maybe even more, we'll see! I need to be more prolific with sketching, I still want to set up a Patreon, and I need to be more diligent about posting on my other sites such as Tumblr and Twitter, so those are some things I'm going to work on.

And lastly, some of you have apparently recommended me to a group called Trusted-Artists which gets me on their artist list and lets me post their nice 'n shiny icon on my profile page! I've never even heard of this group before but it's such a nice gesture, so thanks to those of you who were behind it!

Things have been pretty crazy this month, and I've fallen a bit behind schedule. The plan was to run a Christmas-themed YCH after the poker party one, but there won't be enough time to get it in before Christmas. Instead, I wanted to run another idea past you guys.

I've been toying with the idea of doing a group pic of a Christmas party. This would be done as a colored sketch, and $20 would get your character in. (Payment would be made via invoice on PayPal.) I would work on this for the next few days alongside my other commissions and then post it on Christmas eve. As a theme I thought it'd be fun if every character included were wearing an ugly Christmas sweater, but this won't be required to participate.

Characters involved could be exchanging gifts, singing carols, enjoying a glass of egg-nog or a mug of hot cocoa, decorating the Christmas tree, or goofing off outside, visible through window where they're making a snowman or having a snowball fight or some such activity. If you've got other ideas I'd be happy to hear em as well!

Also, it might be worth mentioning I wanna keep this a G-rated image, I just wanna do somethin cute for Christmas (because I'm a HUGE holiday sap like that X w w; ) So no kinks this time around, if you please!

I'm not gonna set a hard limit on character slots, but I may impose a soft limit if the image somehow starts to grow too large. (Or maybe I'll split it into separate images, we'll see what happens.) So I've been wanting to get into Tabletop Simulator on Steam. I've only just started using it myself so I'm still learning all the commands and such, and I thought it would be fun to get a group together sometime to play some simpler games such as Dixit, Ticket to Ride, or Cards Against Humanity. Ooh fuck me. I am going against my better judgement and writing this journal. This is a journal about the election results, which is a very touchy subject right now. Usually, I avoid discussing politics like it's the plague. I don't like doing it, and given my neutral, non-partisan viewpoint, I usually find myself seen as the enemy of whomever I'm speaking with. Or at least it certainly feels that way.

The reason I'm writing this journal is because I feel a great sense of sadness at the sentiments I'm seeing going around. People are calling their fellow Americans a bunch of racist, sexist, trans-phobic misogynists, and are in great despair over the results. These are comments I've seen coming from friends and followers, from people I care about. I write this journal not in attempt to argue or provoke. This is not an attempt to debate. If you try to start debating with me, do not be surprised if I do not reply. This journal is not for that. This journal is an attempt to give some glimmer of hope back to those who have lost it. If just one person gets something positive from this, then I'll consider it a win.

The mainstream media was extremely biased during this election. Through their lopsided coverage, they portrayed one candidate as Hitler, and the other as your one and only hope. In the event that Hillary did not win, the media has set you up for one hell of a fall, without any consideration for whether or not this would come to pass. And pass it did. Now there's all this despair and hopelessness going around.

Trump was not elected out of any sense of racial or gender bias. He was elected by the working class, whom having grown tired of the uncaring establishment in Washington, voted for the least conventional candidate, because he stood for radical change. He addressed the people, and the people answered. I think one of the largest examples of this can be seen the day before the election. Trump held a rally and gave a speech to his supporters. Hillary threw a concert With Beyonce and Jay Z. Trump also campaigned long and hard in 'the blue wall' states, while Clinton, thinking their vote was in the bag, largely neglected them. This too contributed to the win for Trump.

Trump was not elected out of any sense of racial or gender bias. He was elected by normal Americans, just like you. Your fellow citizens are not the bunch of bigoted racists they have been made out to be. People today are largely 'good.' Women, minority groups, and the LGBT community have more rights than ever before. Violence and crime are on the decline, and have been ever since the 1980's. It is a wonderful time to be alive. Trump's running mate is Pence, which I'm not thrilled about, but you have to take it for what it is. The decision has been made. As a gay Hoosier living in Indiana, the controversial 'Religious Freedom Act' has not impacted my life at all. But I say it again, people today are largely good, and so far, I've yet to have been turned away from an establishment based on my life choices. And if someone were to eventually turn me away, that would be fine. I would not want to patronize the business of someone so bigoted and close-minded, and I would thank them for letting me know I should take my money elsewhere.

Trump was not elected out of any sense of racial or gender bias. He was elected by whites, by blacks, Latinos, and members of the LGBT community. Trump has appeared on social media with members of these groups standing beside him, and to cross them during his presidency would not be a smart move. Should legislation threatening the rights of these groups come to pass, the people of this country will stand beside you, because again, people are largely good.

My boyfriend is a gay 'Hispanic American' I suppose you could call him. He would not appreciate you doing so, as he will tell you he was born and raised in this country. He would also tell you that improved border control would be a wonderful thing. His family came to this country with no connections, no money, no nothing. But nothing was stopping them from going through the proper channels, and they have lived here unharassed ever since. Legal documentation and identification is not something you can only find in an ivory tower, like many think it is, and we should encourage those who want to enter this country to do so the the right way.

Some have also expressed concern about the Republican party controlling the other branches of government during this new presidency. I ask you to keep in mind that though he ran as Republican, Trump is not truly a Republican. Being a Democrat most of his life, he is now something strange and new. Many Republicans do not stand with Trump, and it is unlikely he will be able to steamroll legislation as many seem to fear him doing.

This is a stressful time for EVERYONE in our country. Tensions are high, and I ask my fellow Americans to not despair. Keep your chin up. Do not give up hope, and do not sell your fellow Americans short. You are not alone. Your country has not forgotten you. Trust your friends and neighbors to stand beside you. We are still one nation and we are all in this delicate time of uncertainty together.

So, I've noticed something that's been happening around here, and while this is not something that has happened to me (yet), I wanted to try and have a conversation about it. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone in particular, this is just something that completely bewilders me, and I wanted some input on it.

Let's say an artist draws something you don't like, or aren't a fan of. What do you do from there? Do you just close it and move onto something else? Or do you feel the need to make a post saying you don't like it? Do you explain why you don't like yet, or simply voice your grievance? I can understand saying something if this is an art piece that you have paid for, whether it's a commission, or an artist you're subscribed to on a site such as Patreon. If you're paying money for something, and get something you don't like, then you certainly are within your rights to say something about it. (But you should still be polite about it!)

Now, what if this is art that someone ELSE has paid for? To me, this just comes off as incredibly rude. If you were at the store and were standing in line behind someone making a purchase, do you tell that person "Ew, I don't like eggs, why'd you buy those?" or "That's an ugly dress, I don't like that cut, you shouldn't have bought that." I don't see how this is any different from commenting on someone else's commission that they paid for, and start going on about how the portrayed content is not to your taste. But the people who do this don't seem to think there's anything wrong with it.

So I guess my main question is, does this seem rude to you? Or am I just making a fuss over nothing?

Hey guys, I wanted to open a discussion about Patreon. I've had a few people ask me if I had one, and when I say no, they would ask me, "Well why not?"
To which, I never really had a good answer, and it's a question I've started asking myself. After a good deal of deliberation, I think I would like to have one running by the end of this month.

Before anyone decides to start leaving comments like these (all of which I've seen posted when the topic of Patreon came up with other artists,) I would like to address a few things. Is this about getting more money? Yes! It most certainly is! However I don't want to alienate a large part of my audience who either can't afford it, or simply does not wish to contribute to a Patreon fund. As such, I will not be 'hiding anything behind a paywall.' You will still be able to view all of my finished and complete content without paying me a dime.

But Vir, then what's the point of even having a Patreon? To answer: Any non-commission work I produce will be posted exclusively on Patreon for a month in advance, and will then find its way onto my other sites after the start of the next month. So any contributors to the Patreon will have early access to my non-commission work. In addition to the usual fair I've been creating up until now, I will be starting to do more sketches that will be Patreon exclusive. These will include things like random doodles, pose exercises, maybe even how-to's and fun little personal comics. There will be more information on these further down.

I've taken a look at what all a few other artists do for Patreon, and I have found it a bit daunting. There's this intimidation factor that's caused me to procrastinate on setting up a Patreon for a while now, so I want to handle it in bite-sized chunks. To start with, I plan on offering low pay tiers with a few minor rewards, and as interest in the Patreon goes up, I will add higher tiers and more substantial awards for those who are interested.

The main reason I'm posting this journal instead of just diving into making the account, is because I would like input from you, my supporters! I want this to be a fun thing for those who are interested, so I want to know what kind of rewards would you like to see! So consider this a cross between an interest check and a brainstorming session. I'm going to post what all reward ideas I've considered doing, and if you have any input to offer, feel free to speak up!


Award Tiers

$1/month: Tip Jar Tier
What you'll get: My gratitude, and a big smile! You will also receive early access to all of my non-commission work.

Why this tier? As the title states, this is a tip jar. Like me and what I do? Want to support me but can't afford to get a commission or bid on YCHs?
Throw a dollar my way instead!

$5/month: Sketches and Stickers Tier
What you'll get: The aforementioned gratitude and smile, as well as early access to all of my non-commission work.
You will also get early access to Telegram sticker sets and exclusive access to sketch pages which will be posted a couple times a week. Members of this tier will also be entered in a monthly raffle for a chance to win a colored sketch, or a pair of Telegram stickers!

Why this tier? Whenever I do sketch exercises, they usually just sit on my computer taking up space. Occasionally I'll take one I like and turn it into a finished piece, but otherwise, that's it. This will let me do something more with them, and help me branch out into other things like hourly comics. I've also been wanting to make more Telegram stickers, but I haven't had the time as I've had to focus on commissions and YCHs. This would give me the opportunity to do so.

Those are the two tiers I'm planning on starting with. I have ideas for more, but I don't want to bite off more than I can chew and fall behind on my rewards. For higher tiers, I've considered things like access to private streaming sessions and a raffle for a two or three hour commission. For now though, let me know what you think of these current tiers, and what kind of rewards you would like to see in the future!

I think I'll start holding a poll between themes for YCHs to help gauge interest in different ideas.
