Regarding Picarto and Cell Phones
Posted 9 years agoI thought I would make a journal about this since it's been brought up a couple of times. Are there many of you who would want to watch my streams but can't because Picarto isn't supported by cell phones? I've been considering checking out this other streaming site called Piczel. In addition to allowing cellular viewing, it seems to have some nice free perks that Picarto charges for. I'll be checking out Piczel tomorrow, and might even end up streaming on there from now on, depending on how things go, so keep an eye out for that. Alternatively, those of you who already watch me on Picarto, would anyone mind terribly following me to a new site?

Posted 9 years agoIn light of recent events that have occurred, I am making that one journal that everyone else has been doing with all my social media crap on it.
"Graaaugh FA traitor, how dare you, it's not the site's fault, you're being unfair, why can't all the artists I like stay in one place, I don't want to have to remember passwords for twenty different sites-"
No, stop right there. I am not leaving FA. (Well, not YET anyway.) I am merely getting my contact info out there so that if the situation worsens, or if the site goes down again or whatever, those who wish to find me will be able to find me. My financial well-being relies on this site, and it has let me down. I am preparing for the worse here so I'm not left dead in the water when and if it comes. If you're one of those people who feel the need to leave a knee-jerk reaction comment like one of those mentioned above, then fine. Don't follow me on other sites. That's your choice, just as it's mine to not keep all my eggs in one basket. And to those of you who understand the situation and follow me on other forms of media, you have my gratitude. You guys are awesome!
Picarto This is where I stream! Usually during the late afternoon/evening on weekdays.
Weasyl Everything posted on FA can also be found here. I love this site! I just wish it got more traffic.
Tumblr I've only recently started posting here, even though I've had the account forever. Not much here now, but it'll keep growing.
Twitter Also a recent venture. I post stream announcements here, and sometimes I ask for suggestions on ideas and themes for future pics.
Furry Network Currently, this is an empty shell. That'll change if I can get the FA gallery transfer to work. I made this because this seems like the next big move, if how much everyone has been talking about it is any indication.

Social Media GO! (And Connection Update)
Posted 9 years agoHEY >: T
Guess who's on Tumblr and Twitter now?
Both are fairly empty right now, but everything I load here will also be loaded onto Tumblr, as well as some sketches and in progress stuff. I might also reblog funny offensive shit that makes me laugh. (Because I'm a terrible person.)
On Twitter I'll be posting stream announcements, and might do some funny doodles as well.
That's the plan at least, we'll see what they evolve into. And speaking of streaming, I haven't been doing any lately because my wireless connection is still shoddy. OnceI'm able to secure a wired connection to my desktop, streaming will resume. I'll also be posting a new YCH sometime soon. The theme this time is 'luggage rack.' Let your imagination run with that.

I've got a stable enough connection again, so I'll be catching back up here. I've got one commission remaining on my plate to finish up, and another I'm working out the details on. I ALSO have an Easter-themed YCH planned, assuming I can get the damn auction posted soon! I would like to have the auction image prepared for tomorrow, so we'll see what happens. I'll update this journal with any further commissions gained later in the week

Posted 9 years agoHey guys, I won't be streaming tonight (or tomorrow probably) as I think I strained my eye during last night's session, and I need to take a break through the weekend to make sure I don't irritate it any further. I should be okay after this break period. I'll still be doing some work during this time, I just won't be handling the same workload as I have been this past week.
With that in mind, I wanted to update the queue. I'm not scheduling any hard deadlines yet, as I need to see how long it takes for my eye to recover.

kjets9 Three hour commission sessionUpdates For Monday!
Posted 9 years agoHey all, just thought I'd write a journal about a few upcoming things.
I'll have the current YCH finished sometime tonight and should have it posted by tomorrow.
If you didn't get in on this one but are still interested, then fret not, I'll have another posted come Monday.
Given how fast the first one sold out, I might try auctioning the slots on this one, instead of selling them on a first-come-first-serve basis.
I'll also be making adjustments to my commission pricing now that I'm improving in terms of technical skill and efficiency. I'll be sticking with the hourly pay structure, as it's been a big motivator for me to stay on task while working, and helps me produce art much faster. However, I will be raising the price slightly from $15 an hour to $20. As I usually don't work on the weekends, this will go into effect come Monday.
In the meantime I want to thank you all for your support and interest in my work. It means a lot to me. I've been very spotty in terms of submissions these past few years, sometime disappearing for months at a time, but now I'm finally hitting my stride, and it feels great! This wouldn't have happened without you guys, and I just want you to know how much I appreciate it.

A New Year! (and under the weather)
Posted 10 years agoI just wanted to take a moment to wish you all a Happy New Year, and say that I hope your holidays were merry!
As for myself, I've been absent this past week or two owing to my own family festivities, and getting sick immediately afterwords.
Right now I'm dealing with a cold/sinus infection, and the sinus pressure has been making me woozy and is giving me some headaches. I've got some holiday art I've been trying to finish, but it's been difficult to stare at the screen for an extended period of time in this condition.
I'm hoping I'll be over this in a couple of days, and then I should be able to get that posted and have streams running again, so I'll see you guys then! And good luck sticking with those resolutions, to those of you who made them! I've got some productivity-related ones of my own that I'll be gunning for, so here's to hoping!

Branching Out, With a Side of Insomnia
Posted 10 years agoHey all. So I don't write journals all that often. That's probably something I need to work on changing. But anywho, I'm trying to be more active in the community, and in part of doing so, I've decided to brush the dust and cobwebs off of my Weasyl and Tumblr accounts. I'm not leaving FA or anything. This place is still gonna be my 'central hub' as it were. I just figured it's time I take a look at this social media business and branch out some more.
To start, I've begun cross-posting some older submissions of mine to my Weasyl account, and am working my way up to my current stuff. Once Weasyl is in order, I'll be getting Tumblr sorted out, and some have recommended I hop on Twitter as well. All of this is in an effort to keep myself more active online, and to reach a wider audience.
I need to set a stable streaming schedule as well. I intended to get a stream going today, but then some other things came up and time had gotten away from me. To those of you who enjoy watching me streaming, or perhaps would LIKE to watch me stream but never catch them when I have them going, what time zones are y'all located in? And what time do you usually find yourself clicking around for something to do online? That might help me in my quest for stability.
It also doesn't help that my sleep cycle is in shambles. SHAMBLES I SAY. Insomnia has been a life-long foe of mine. Short of taking sleeping pills, anybody have any tips for falling the fuck asleep?

Commissions: Hourly Pay Structure
Posted 10 years agoInstead of a long list of different prices, I simply charge a flat rate of $60 per hour of work, regardless of the type of commission wanted.
STANDARD COMMISSIONS
Want me to work for you for one hour? How about two hours? Here is what you can expect within that frame of time. In one hour I can get a nice line art done of your character. With a second hour I can add some coloring and simple shading to it.
Interested in three hours? With that extra hour I can spend more time doing smoother coloring and shading.
Commissions featuring multiple characters or characters with complex designs (including wings, additional limbs, complicated body markings etc) will take longer to achieve a certain level of completion. The same goes for any additional background details you might want, so please keep that in mind when placing commissions.
TELEGRAM STICKERS
Bust-sized stickers (head and shoulders) are 3 for $60.
Waist-up stickers are 2 for $60.
Sticker packs are also expandable! Which means new stickers can be added to an existing pack at any time!
As with standard commissions, stickers of characters with complex designs may take more time to produce.
REFERENCE SHEETS
It's difficult to put a price on these because it varies depending on the character's design, the number of viewpoints wanted, or any sample expressions, outfits or accessories you may want to have shown with them.
For a character with a relatively simple design, a ref sheet including front and back views of the character with color swatches and some character info will take 4 hours. Given the nature of creating a reference sheet, we will discuss price estimates before hand. I would also prefer that you schedule a time you'd be available to watch a streaming session while I work on your sheet, so you can give on the spot feedback if something doesn't look quite right. For example, this sheet took 4 hours to make and this one took five hours.
COMICS
Comics are a HUGE investment for both the artist and commissioner. I am not always accepting comic commissions, as they take a lot of my time to complete, especially if I have a few other larger projects I'm juggling at the same time. They can vary wildly in price from page to page, as the time each one takes can vary depending on the characters and situations involved. As a VERY rough estimate, you can expect to be paying for at least 6 hours of work per page. If you are interested in such a project let me know, and we can discuss the details.
===============================================================================================================
Commission Form:
If you're interested in a commission, please check out my commission form, which can be found here!
Payment Plans
I prefer to break large projects like multi-character pictures and comic page commissions down into sessions. I'll work on the picture a few hours at a time and you pay for these shorter sessions as we go, until the commission is completed. It helps me avoid getting burnt out from working too long on the same thing, and it's easier on your wallet.

FAQ
How do I know how much time a commission will take?
When you first contact me about a commission and tell me what it is you're wanting, I will give you an estimate on how long I think the commission will take me to complete.
Alternatively, you can set a budget and I will see what I can get done for you within that amount of time.
What if you don't finish on time?
I will do everything I can to ensure a commission reaches the agreed-upon level of completion, even if it means working a bit of overtime.
I will only ask for additional time on the clock if the commissioner asks for numerous adjustments to made to the piece, or changes their mind on something that will require a lot of redrawing.
If I drastically underestimate the amount of time a piece should take, I will bring this to your attention as soon as I suspect I've made an error, and we will discuss how to best proceed from there.
What won't you draw?
I'm fairly open in terms of what I'm willing to draw. I couldn't possibly hope to know every single kink out there on the internet, but off the top of my head: no baby/cub stuff, no bathroom stuff, and nothing involving dreadfully bad hygiene. A good measure is, if it's something generally considered 'gross', I probably won't want to draw it. If you're unsure whether or not what you want falls under this list, feel free to ask about it below, or send me a note.
Do you do art trades, or accept Amazon or Steam giftcards?
Yes and no. I'm not entirely closed to the idea of art trades, but don't be surprised if I turn you down. Money from commissions is how I pay my expenses, and I can't buy groceries or pay rent with art! For me to accept an art trade, I need to both be interested in your style, and be able to set aside time to complete my half of the trade. I usually don't accept giftcards on the same premise that I can't use them to pay my rent.
Will you draw for anybody?
Usually. But I will be hesitant to accept a commission from you if you have a blank profile. Especially if the commission you're wanting is large. Blank profiles make me worry that the commissioner will vanish partway through the process before paying, because they have nothing at stake and can easily abandon the profile. At the very least I will be requiring payment up front, or evidence of activity on another art platform in the event you've been active elsewhere and are just new to FA. I have not had this problem yet, but I prefer not to take chances with it.

Guess Who's Back?
Posted 10 years agoHey guys. First off, apologies for dropping off the map like I did. I've had one hell of a year. It's been quite an emotional roller coaster.
But I'm moving on now. I'm picking up the pieces I've left lying around here and getting back into business.
I'll be streaming and doing commissions again, but I'll be doing some restructuring in my pricing.
A new pricing list will be up sometime tomorrow, and I'll probably even have a stream going, in the afternoon so keep an eye out for that if you're interested.
It feels good to be back, I didn't realize how much I missed doing art until I started things up again.

dark-chaos COMPLETE!It's About Time
Posted 11 years agoThis journal, that is. It's about time. Your time. Specifically you, my watchers, and your relative time zones.
Those of you who are interested in catching my streaming sessions, I was wondering two things:
1) What's your timezone?
2) When are you usually lazing about online, looking for streams or other such diversions to occupy your time?
My schedule is fairly open, so I can stream just about whenever. I'm TRYING to get myself to stick to a regular schedule, and I'm attempting to work out a time to stream where I can catch the most viewers. If you're at all interested in my streaming, your input will be most appreciated!
In the meantime, commissions! I'm always taking them!

An updated price list will be coming soon, along with a streaming schedule if you would like to watch me while I work.

Willing to work on pretty much whatever, just nothing gross like excessive violence or gore. If you're unsure about a desired subject matter then just drop me note.

If you're interested, either comment or send me a note with a reference image. Not sure how many I'll be taking. At least five, but possibly more. Once I get a few in I'll probably open up a Stream session as I'm working on them, so keep an eye out for that as well!

Posted 12 years agoSo right before Thanksgiving I was feeling all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, and posted a journal full of vim and vigor and artistic bravado, talking about how I would be doing my damndest to post something each day.
And then the holiday season came around and CRUSHED MY SPIRIT D|
Long story short, we ended up being short two employees during our biggest rush of the year, and I've been pulling 13-hour shifts at work this past month, which left me very little time or energy to do much else. And then I got a car. (Which was nice at first until it started dying on me every single day, so then there was also that little gem to sort back out.)
But that craziness is past and now I'm playing catch-up. I'll be finishing a few things that I had MEANT to post for Christmas, but with said craziness I haven't been able to get done on time, so keep those peepers peeled for impending, out of season, Christmas cheer.

I...AWAKEN
Posted 12 years agoHey.
Sup.
I've been pretty quiet this past year.
You can chalk that up to an unfortunate amount of transportation problems.
And moving three times. (The third time across the country.)
Being without a tablet, for
dracojeff's tablet quit on him, and I lent him mine for a couple of months until we could afford another one, so he could keep streaming in order to pay rent.
And getting dumped on by life in general.
However, we're finally settled down in a nice apartment that we can afford on our own.
Dracojeff has a new tablet, so I can use mine again.
And the will to draw is returning to me.
I'm challenging myself to post at least once a day from now on, even if it's just some crappy little doodle or sketch. Something needs to get put up on here EVERY SINGLE DAY. If I miss several days in a row, feel free to leave disreputable comments regarding my character. Maybe the kick in the ass will keep me going.
Aside from daily sketch updates, I'm currently wrapping pieces for
firewolf66 and
otakuwolf, and I've got ideas for several big pieces I want to get completed and posted. I'll also be taking on new commissions, should you like what you see here. (Cuz I've got bills to catch up on.) I need to overhaul my commission price-guide with new badge prices and sample links, so another journal should be getting posted here sometime this week with all the updated information.
Well...here goes nothin~

Situation Resolved
Posted 13 years agoEvening (or morning) to you all. Just posting an update on the car situation. I was able to finally speak with someone competent and cooperative today. Most of the problem seemed to stem from a communication error.
To make a long story short, I got them to drop most (but not all) of the fees with minimal prompting. They said I could inquire about getting the rest of the fees removed tomorrow, but that would mean another day of paying for their BS storage fees and having this hanging over my head. So I just paid the much smaller amount and went along my merry way. Car is now with a mechanic so hopefully the worst is over.
And I wanted to thank everyone for all the advice and concerns. Ended up not really needing it, but it's the thought that counts.

Of Car Wrecks and Con Men
Posted 13 years agoSo last week I was in my first car wreck. I was driving on the highway on my way to work, when I suddenly I feel the rear end of my car drop and the whole thing starts to shudder, accompanied by a horrible grinding sound. I look in the mirror and I can see my rear left tire just bouncing away. My vehicle starts swerving around, and I wrestle with the steering wheel, trying to keep my car in my lane, but I lose control. I start to spin, veering to the left, and my front end crashes into the dirt embankment that divides the two sides of the highway. I continue to spin, feeling the rear end hit the embankment as well. Eventually my car grinds to a halt, blocking two lanes of traffic.
Needless to say the experience was horrifying.
Thankfully I didn't hit anyone else, and since I hit a dirt embankment instead of guardrails or concrete barricades, I didn't cause any damage to state property, so the officer who arrived on the scene didn't have to file a report. I myself was unhurt except for a pulled muscle in my neck, which has since healed.
As for my car, well it's seen better days. The rear left tire is gone (nobody could find where it went), the front left tire is wrecked, my right headlight is broken and the right side of my car is all banged up, front and back. I only had one spare tire, so I couldn't drive it anywhere. The officer called a tow truck to come pick me up. Enter the antagonist in this tale: Action Towing.
The driver himself was friendly and helpful. I hold no animosity towards him. As he loads my car onto his truck, he tells me that this is going to cost $10 per mile, with the first five miles free due to my AAA membership. He goes on to say that my insurance company might even cover the towing if I have the proper coverage. So he drives me and my car seventeen miles to the tow yard, which I have since come to learn is a veritable hell on earth for cars. A vehicle purgatory. The driver drops me off at the office building and tells me to go inside, and they'll give me the prerequisite paperwork, so I go in.
There's two people off in the back of the area behind the counter having a conversation, laughing about something, while a third sits in the waiting area, watching something on the little TV they have set up in there. I'm standing there for fifteen minutes before they acknowledge my presence. The man laying on the waiting couch rolls over to face me and says rather rudely, "You need something?" I explain the situation the best I can, still rattled from the car crash I was in, and they tell me that the truck driver was mistaken, that there was no paperwork or anything else I need to worry about. This struck me as odd, so I press on, asking "Are you sure?" and stuff like that. They tell me not to worry about it and send me on my way.
So I wait to hear back from my insurance company, and they inform me that I do not have the proper coverage to cover the damages or the towing expense. I then get back in touch with Action Towing, to get a recommendation for a mechanic for my vehicle, and to talk about payment for the towing cost, since my insurance company won't be covering it.
That's when I get hit with the bombshell.
They inform me that the cost for towing was going to be $240, twice of what I thought I would be paying ($170 for the seventeen miles, but the five mile reduction from my AAA membership would bring that down to $120), and then they start bringing up all these additional fees that I was not told about on the day I left my car there. I'm being charged an additional $70 for something that the girl on the phone couldn't properly explain, and a $75 a day storage fee for leaving my car there. (Which stands at $525 at the time I'm writing this journal.) I start by asking why the towing charge is so much, what about my AAA reduction, and she tells me that she'll have to get a supervisor to speak with me, asks for my number, and says she'll call me back shortly. Time goes by and I get no call. I then realized that their office closes early on the weekend. Which means I'll have to call back tomorrow, while the storage fees rack up.
Aside from the towing fee, which they're charging me double for by my calculations, none of this was even brought up the day I arrived, so I'm fairly certain I'm getting ripped off here. Nothing like this has happened to me before, and I'm at a loss for what to do. If anyone has any legal knowledge about this sort of thing, I could really use some guidance right now.

On the Job
Posted 13 years agoSo I am no longer unemployed. In fact I now have full-time employment, something which I haven't had in years. While I'm THRILLED to have the chance to start playing catch-up on my bills and stuff, it also means I have a lot less free time on my hands. So as much as I'd love to keep up the prolific pace at which I've been posting stuff recently, I just don't have the time for it right now. I'll still try to get some drawing done each week in the few hours each day I have to myself, and in my two days off, but chances are my posting habits will fall back into my old routine, once a month or so.
I just feel I must make the distinction that THIS time, it's not due to laziness or art block.
It's cuz I'm working my ass off at something else x.x
