A Milestone!
General | Posted 11 years agoI've hit a milestone in my writing today! 10,000 words! Quintuple digits, baby! I'm also enjoying the story and world I've been creating, but I do want to go back and tweak it at some point - when I'm done, that is. I think I pulled a tendon in my hand the other day while I was writing. It's been giving me a dull ache all day, and it's swollen down the side of my hand, near my pinky finger. I've been keeping on, boldly forging ahead with the story and character development. Oh ho! And I'm also setting up some twists!
I've also began to give some thought as to which publishing companies I'd like to put this out to. Red Deer Press is the first one that comes to mind, but I shall continue looking until I find something interesting.
Also, I'm absolutely terrified that this project will fall through, and it excites me.

English Toffee
General | Posted 11 years agoI hit my first wall today, I think. I knew how I wanted the novel to start, and I know how I want it to end, but getting from point A to Z will require a lot of filler. It will have to be a fine mix of exposition, info dumps, character development, and action. Thankfully, a few breaks and some time careful thought to the plot gave me the inspiration I needed to jump that small hurdle, and help me reach my quota for the day.
At about 500 words left this evening, I decided to have a break. I went down to the nearest Tim Horton's (Canadian Starbucks, essentially), and I got myself a nice, warm, English Toffee.
If you don't know what an English Toffee is, it's basically a Tootsie Roll in a cup. Delicious.
Current Novel Status: 6,120/100,000 words
At about 500 words left this evening, I decided to have a break. I went down to the nearest Tim Horton's (Canadian Starbucks, essentially), and I got myself a nice, warm, English Toffee.
If you don't know what an English Toffee is, it's basically a Tootsie Roll in a cup. Delicious.

Writing a Novel!
General | Posted 11 years agoSo! My last semester of school, I took a class to hone my craft of writing. It was aptly named The Writer's Craft. While my work ethic in the class was shit, by the end of the class I had my teacher telling me that I should try and put my work "out there", and try to get it published.
Blah blah blah, three months pass and here I am doing fuck all with my talent. Someone who was in that class came up to me recently and told me that another student in the class had actually gotten an option from a publisher, because she had actually DONE something with her work.
Well, shit.
So now here I am, world building, character creating, and plot plotting. I'm dusting off all the mechanics and literary devices I learned in that class, and I'm doing something with it.
I'm writing a fantasy novel.
Fantasy novels aren't generally meant to be short novellas either.
A cursory glance at the genre suggests I write a book with 100,000 words to even have a publisher look at it.
Shit.
Current Novel Status: 2,833/100,000 words
