Here's some stuff to consider when you wonder why life sucks. Keep in mind, this is of the philosophy that "You Get What You Give" regardless of human/social influence, but rather a Universal cycle of GOOD IN = GOOD OUT

You should have:

Integrity - If you give your word, keep it. If you can't, say so. And always be aware of the consequences. AWARE OF THE CONSEQUENCES! Can't stress that one enough.
Honesty - With yourself most of all
Forgiveness - Just let it go. There is true freedom in the forgiveness of the transgressions of others. YOU, not them, YOU will be so much happier, if you just learn to let it go.
Generosity - Try it. Be Truly generous. Give when you have little. Sacrifice eating out this week for the sake of someone else. Give something away for no reason. It'll make you feel surprisingly good (usually... people in today's world can sometimes be suspicious), and, as I said, this is a school of thought that follows the ideal of Karma, so you'll be compensated. It's just a matter of recognizing that you're good luck is the result of something good you did, rather than a fluke.
Flexibility - Don't get wrapped around the axle. If something goes wrong, just... work it out. There's always another way. It's only when you convince yourself that you have only one option that you piss away your other opportunities. There's always at least two means to one end, though the second may be harder to choose.
Consideration - For the love of God I learned this the hard way. THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK. And keep your options open. Consequences come back in this one. We all make decisions without having considered things like "Am I being fair to (insert person)" or "Is this going to hurt anything" or "Am I going to look back at this and say, 'What the hell was I thinking?'" Just take a moment to consider all the sacrifices that anyone has made for you; Your Designated Drivers, Your Parents, Your Friends. Then consider what you've done/sacrificed for them, and what that's worth to you. Also consider WHERE what you are doing is going to take you. Will it whittle away your options? Back you into a corner? Or will it open up new opportunities for you. You know the truth, be honest with yourself, and if you're headed down a slippery slope, GTFO!
Confidence - If you have all of the above, then you can pretty much chill. You'll always be right, or at least have the means to make yourself right, so you can be confident, it's alright. I promise, nothing feels better than being infallibly, indisputably RIGHT. And, believe it or not, when you're GOOD (and don't give me that bullshit, you know what good is you emo), it's pretty hard to be wrong. Not impossible, but it's at least easier to be right~


You belong to the world, the world doesn't belong to you. There's lots of ways to pretend like you're in control, and can do what you please, but balance will be maintained. Everything has a price. Not A VALUE, A PRICE. THOSE ARE DIFFERENT.

I got a 300+ on my Army Physical Fitness test.

To put it in perspective: You can pass with a 180, and 270 is enough to earn you special privileges. On top of that, 300 is the maximum on the normal scale. The only way to get more than that is to earn more than 100% in all three events.

I'm not as excited about it as I thought I'd be, but it is in my nature to boast. So I am.

-One of our briefings was about dangerous wildlife. When everyone was allowed to approach the tanks, several privates proceeded to tap the glass in an effort to make the snakes strike. When I told them that it was inappropriate (the poor snakes were obviously scared to death as it was), ALL OF THEM lashed out with explanations of how the animals would be killed at the days end. I replied with "That's sad" and they responded with "Why's that sad, it could kill you?"
1) I don't give a rats ass what's going to happen to the animal, you've been taught since you were 5 NOT TO TAP THE GLASS! Full grown men. SOLDIERS. Disgraceful.
2) If you were about to die, would you like to be tormented as you torment the snake?
3) You're trusty dog could kill you too, but you'd be sad if someone "took a .22 to his head" wouldn't you?

-I ran into a new guy and attempted to explain some things to him. As I apparently told him something incorrect, someone jumped in with "WRONG AGAIN JACKASS!"
1) Really? You couldn't have just said something like "Actually, that's not right. It's..." or "I'm not sure that's right" Why the FUCK would you make a point to prove that you're the shitbagging buddyfucking jackass in the equation? It makes no sense to me. Just saying.

-Haven't been able to go to the PX to get razors, so I wasn't able to effectively shave my face and I got laced up for it. I could give a damn what my fellow privates think, but I HATE being less-than-perfect for my Sergeants. Particularly the one who got me for it.

-I fell asleep in one of the briefings today (it was safety stand down day) and got smoked by the same Sergeant. I did get to explain why I was out of sorts though, so it ended up being a hickup in the badness.

-When everyone was doing the beer goggles driving course, many cones were being knocked down, and the only people who were there to pick them up were a police officer in a NAVY BLUE uniform and my Sergeant. Being a soldier in the united states army and thusly having an innate desire to ease the woes of those around me (army values and all that) I decided to help reconstruct the course after it was inevitably destroyed after every run. My fellow privates MOCKED me. The lowest low point of my day.

-On my way back to my room from formation, I reached into my pocket to retrieve the glasses I bought SUNDAY. They were and remain broken.

-The march back from study hall was a wet one. It waited until we were outside to start really raining. FABULOUS!

Let's hope I don't get woken up for some insane reason tonight as the CQ sergeant goes through for bed checks. That would be the icing on the cake.

The Soldier life's the life for me~ 8D

The EOD suitability test. Otherwise known as The Bomb Suit Test.
This is a test to determine if you are suitable and capable of performing certain difficult tasks necessary to be an EOD.

This is a bombsuit. Just like the one I wore earlier today. It weighs about 70lb, it's hot as a mother fucker, and it just might save my life someday.
The test? Oh, it was just the second worst thing I've had to do here in the Army, next to the gas chamber. You have to carry heavy things long distances without a break, you have to get up and down off the ground in varying ways, go up and down stairs, push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, low crawls, sing "I'm a little tea pot", take a math test, look at a picture and then answer questions about the picture, run, and other things depending on who your instructor is. Doesn't sound bad? IT IS! But the worst thing is - I wasn't the first person to wear that suit today, so it was nice and sweaty and disgusting when it came my turn to be examined. I still smell like it. Like the sweat of every soldier who's taken the test in that suit all put together... right, took the miserable test, and don't even get to stink like myself.

But at least I passed. On my first try even. Though I answered all 30 of the math questions as if they were addition, when 15 of them were subtraction, so I had to do it over. Still passed though.

I'm done with Basic Training

I'll be gone for the next couple of months. Don't worry, I'm not going to be dead, and please don't send me "where are you?" messages.
