Commisioners: Refunds
Posted 9 years agoHey all --
Things have been horrible to be frank. My cat died of acute liver failure last week while I was away visiting family for Thanksgiving (petsitter's rang us to tell us he was unresponsive on the floor, rushed him to the ER and we tried to make the six hour drive back home but had to make the decision to have him PTS over the phone because he was in such incredible pain). When we got back we discovered our other cat, probably from the stress of the other cat dying, was experiencing a flare of his FLUTD and had to be rushed to the ER too. He just got home a couple of days ago after needing a lot of surgery and a full week of hospitalization. I can barely take care of myself right now. I'm trying to work and I am making some progress but the heap of backlogged commissions I owe is just dragging me down and I know that for most of you it's just been way too long of a wait for any of you to feel satisfied with me ever again, so I really would just like to offer a refund to you at this point unless I've contacted you about progress. There are a few of you who I've almost finished and I've sent you pictures (LadyFoxx, Terry, Lady Distort? I think that's it? If this is you and I've just forgotten then let me know, I can probably still finish yours). I'm going to contact everyone else this week to talk about refunding, but if you see this before I get around to that and want to message me first then definitely feel free. Hopefully I'll be able to just refund the lot of you now but some of you I might have to do in payments as I have some important bills pending and some healthcare stuff I need to take care of (I haven't had insurance since September, waiting on Medicaid approval). Off of the top of my head I cannot remember what the total will be for all of you but I will do my best to get you paid back asap.
I hope that after refunding those of you that have been waiting too too too long and regrouping myself and feeling like a person again I'll be able to work again one day soon. Thanks.

I was in the hospital last night and embarrassed as hecke.
Posted 9 years agoSo I was literally in the ER last night because I tore my left calf muscle chasing a Pokemon on Pokemon Go with some friends that were visiting. I am full of shame and on crutches and can't walk very well but the good news is that I have some volunteer help now with the hamsters and my partner is picking up the slack on household duties and I'm probably trapped at my desk now unable to do any of my other responsibilities until I heal, so I should be making more progress on commissions lmao.
I'm in a lot of pain but have gotten by on just OTC pain meds and not the narcotics they've prescribed me. I'm sending some Etsy orders out to ship tomorrow w/ my partner, and tonight I'm working on making a lot of scales for the pangolin commission I've had near finished for eons now.

Updates!! Also: Anthrocon folks please contact me.
Posted 9 years agoSome updates: I've made progress on quite a few commissions here, I'm periodically posting updates when I feel like I've made enough progress that another visual update is useful, but right after Anthrocon there will probably be a big influx of updates and some completions. I've actually had to cancel my table space at the con unfortunately due to life situations (moving plus some other stuff, including some drama with my father that might require me to travel to the coast to stay with him for a couple of weeks after a serious surgery) making it so I couldn't possibly balance the responsibilities I already had plus preparing for the con, so I'm going to have to just plan for next year. I'm so sorry for those that were looking forward to stopping by.
Folks that have ordered something from me to be delivered at the con: please email me at vombatiformes[at]gmail.com and I'll give you my personal number so we can figure out where to meet up. I SHOULD have everything done on time, but please harass me if you haven't heard from me in a while (thorugh email preferably). Thank you so much everyone for your patience and support!

We're home and unpacking!
Posted 9 years agoThis is taking wayyyyyyyyyyyyy longer than I'd hoped. I really thought I'd be back to work by now, but I still can't even find where I packed my stupid crochet hooks. I put them somewhere "safer"~~ and not with the other stuff I packed my desk stuff away in and who the heck knows where that is currently. I'm unpacking like mad and trying to get everything under control!
Moving in a week and also broken phone ugh.
Posted 9 years agoI'm so sorry for the super slow progress, it's really horrible and I would be really frustrated if I were anyone on my list right now. If you're absolutely fed up with me at this point and would like to talk about a refund if I haven't started yours yet (my previous journal has basically up to date progress -- if I've already started yours I can give you a partial refund if you'd like or you're all obviously free to wait, which would be my preference and hopefully yours too, I just understand if you're upset because it's been so so so slow).
Our closing date for the new house is a week from today (May 5th) and we are moving by ourselves, with only the two of us actually physically moving and dealing withi the whole process and it's incredibly stressful. My partner works a more-than-full-time job so they're only able to really help in the evenings when we get home, so a lot of the moving has been left up to me and I'm trying very hard to get an hour or two of work in a day at this point if I'm lucky. Our #1 priority when we get in the house after we literally set up a place to sleep is to get my studio set up again so I can start working immediately during the day again while my partner is at work and we can unpack in the evening.
If you have ANY concerns whatsoever PLEASE tell me but I apologize if my responses are slower than normal, as a few days ago my cell phone broke. I used to be able to pretty much check my emails (vombatiformes@gmail.com) immediately on my phone but now I have to actually be at my desk, which is not as common as it usually is while I pack and drag things into our moving truck. So please be patient, but I will check at least once a day, so please contact me about anything at all -- if you'd like to see a progress picture if my list has you as having been made progress on, definitely let me know, or if you just need to contact for me for personal reassurance that you haven't been forgotten. <3

werewolfleprechaun $45WE BOUGHT A HOUSE. My life is now insanity.
Posted 9 years agoSo I am horrifically tragically behind in everything. I am SO SORRY EVERYONE. We had been looking to buy a house for the past year on and off, and recently started looking again this month and found a house we fell completely in love with almost immediately, very unexpectantly. The situation was such that the very old woman (85) just experienced the passing of her husband a couple of weeks earlier and her and her family were eager to move her out of the house, so they accepted our offer almost immediately and everything is moving very very very fast. I'm totally overwhelmed. We will be closing very soon on the house and then we will have to physically move. Possibly even by the end of this month.
Our #1 priority once we're in is to set up my studio so I can work again immediately after moving, so I really have all of you, my Etsy customers, and Patreon patrons very very much in mind. I will need a little bit more patience from you all while we're doing this. As it currently stands I am trying to get work done during the day and then packing and paperwork and madness in the evening. If you have any questions at all please send me a note or email me, and I will get back to you ASAP.

Those of you who also crochet that have been looking to buy patterns from me -- the first one, for Bub/Bob (pattern works for either with different colors) is now available in my Etsy shop. There is the potential to continuously get my patterns monthly for free as I release them if you sign up on the appropriate reward tier on Patreon. There are also plenty of slots left for item rewards as well.

Also, at the end of March I will be increasing ALL of my prices (commissions and Etsy store prices) by 25%, so you have from now until then to purchase items and commission me at my current rates (approximately $10/hr for work at the present moment). All quotes I have given will also be good until the end of March, after which they are no longer valid. Thanks guys!

Prices increases forthcoming.
Posted 9 years agoHey all, so I just wanted to put a note up here explaining that I plan on increasing my rates by about 25% in about a month (planning on officially implementing them on March 30th in all of my quotes from there on out). Up until then I have basically charged the equivalent of $10/hour for my work, but I really feel like my skill has increased to the point where I should be making a bit more than that, so expect prices from then on to be more in the $13/hour range. These prices will be reflected in both commissions and in the prices of items in my Etsy shop. I hope you all understand.
So basically, you have from now until March 30th to commission me & buy shop items at their current price, and then they will go up a bit. All quotes given before the price increase will also be subject to change after that point, so if you've gotten a quote from me and you were interested in commissioning me, just know that that quote is only good for another month.
Thanks. <3

Posted 10 years agoHey all, I have a horrific cold or something (since Christmas) that has me struggling to even get out of bed. I'm feeling slightly better this afternoon and I'm hoping that's evidence I'll be back to normal soon, but I apologize for the absence.
I had planned on having a lot finished by now after the holiday was over so I'm frustrated and disappointed. Hopefully I'll be back soon. Sorry and thanks for understanding. :(

A week from today and there is simply no way for me to ship in time for expected Christmas delivery, so if you were planning on getting something now is the time.
Already closed for custom Christmas orders. If something opens last minute I'll post about it here, but as it currently stands I'm swamped.

Our GoFundMe page for Tobias is still active. Everything we've raised so far is in the hands of who loaned us the initial money, and we're all really relieved we've been able to get them as large of a sum in return as quickly as we've been able to. Thank you SO much for all of the help we've received so far. We're keeping the fundraiser open in the hopes of continuing to repay them quickly as my partner does their best to budget money of our each paycheck they get a month (they get paid once at the end of each month) and I'm working hard to fill Etsy orders and make progress on commissions to contribute as much as I can. I still owe a couple of past commissioners some refund money, and I've been sending small payments back to them when I'm able to.
He's doing REALLY well. His stitches are out, and he's playful and active and apparently healing very very well. I still can't believe we're lucky enough to have him with us. I'm still posting pictures and updates on his GoFundMe page so check in there if you want more frequent information.
I'll be posting some progress shots of commissions I've made progress on through today and tomorrow, spaced out a bit so I don't just bombard everyone, but also would you guys be interested in seeing projects I finish from Etsy orders as well? I feel like I seem a bit inactive at times because I am often making the same project over and over again through my shop and I assume ya'll don't really want to see that, but I can post periodic updates on those things too if you're interested. Let me know?
Also, Patreon is still active and chugging along: http://patreon.com/greywombat -- and everyone continues to get sweet lil gifts in the mail when they sign up, which has been fun for me and I hope for them too. I'd like to offer more, as even a small amount of income I can expect each month allows me to contribute more to my partner and I's living expenses and reduces stress for both of us, so it's very appreciated.
If anyone has any questions about anything at any time, please note me, or email me [vombatiformes@gmail.com], and I will respond as soon as I see your message. I try to be as reliable about communication as I can even when things have been tough for me, and I don't mind answering questions or updating on projects as best I can, so don't feel weird or shy about it. I know some of you have been waiting a while and it's really the least I can do to respond to your concerns and keep you updated on things. I appreciate the patience and support I've received here a lot. I hope as I continue to get things sorted out (and I feel like I am, however slowly) I can be a more reliable artist.

Our cat almost died, and now we owe my friend a lot of $.
Posted 10 years agoI have been writing about this all day in various avenues so I apologize if I'm unclear, I'm very sleep deprived and exhausted.
Last night, we discovered that our youngest cat had swallowed string when he began to vomit profusely and exhibited extremely watery diarrhea. We went to clean him, because he had poop on his butt, and realized there was string coming out of him in the tissue we were using to wipe him. Probably shocked by the weird feeling of having the string accidentally tugged on while we were cleaning him, he darted, and a full two feet of string left his body, after which it became stuck, and he crouched on the ground and cried, obviously in pain, and we realized what we thought was maybe an upset stomach was much much more serious.
We rushed him to the emergency vet, where they did xrays, and discovered the string had moved through his body causing extreme cinching of his intestines and making the risk for perforation of his intestines (and thus leakage into his body, resulting in extreme pain and death, very very high) extremely elevated. The veterinarian wanted to call the surgeons in to do immediate emergency surgeon, now 3 AM, but then informed us they would be unwilling to operate unless we could get them the full amount, $3300, up front. We just... don't have that kind of money, and we applied for the credit options they gave us, but were denied. We called other emergency vets in the area, since it was now 3-4 in the morning and the next day was Sunday, but all we were told that they would offer us without up front full payment was low cost euthanasia. Our year old kitten, that we rescued from a car engine literally a year from this week ago, was going to die from a stupid fucking string and no veterinarian would offer us a payment plan to save his life.
I opened a GoFundMe, hoping beyond hope that we could raise what they needed before it was too late, though we were told the chances of him making it to Monday were slim to none. Around 6 AM, a friend of mine overseas contacted me to tell me that, while she could not give us the money, she could loan it to us out of her savings. She is likely to lose her job soon, so this loan was of great personal risk to her, but she was willing to do it nonetheless to save our cat's life. Later that morning we were able to get him into surgery, and later that afternoon we received a call from the surgeon telling us that he did wonderfully, the surgery went perfectly, he's in recovery, and we can pick him up tomorrow.
We are emotionally drained, still on edge and stressed, hurt that not only was our cat so close to death but that the vets were more willing to kill our cat then let us pay the cost of surgery off over time, but also extremely awed by the generosity, empathy, and trust we were shown, and the support we were given, and now that he is out of immediate danger we need to focus on paying my friend back as fast as we possibly can to make the strain less on her.
Here is the GoFundMe account: https://www.gofundme.com/ey64m66w I understand that most people are struggling, but even $1 or $5 here and there have been adding up over the past day, and if you can spare it it honestly really does help very very much .
I am still backlogged on commissions so I cannot offer discounted commissions at this time like I would like to in an ideal situation to help raise this money quickly, but I AM open for normal commissions and have been steadily making progress on them, so if you do want to commission me, or make a purchase from my Etsy shop: http://greywombat.etsy.com now is an excellent time. Etsy orders are very low wait time, within a week to be shipped.
Please pass this around if you can. I owe my friend my kitten's life, and she deserves to get this paid back to her for her own security as soon as possible.

As mentioned before, I DO have a Patreon and I'm really hoping to generate more interest in it. I'm currently a frustration-inducing $5 DOLLARS away from unlocking my first goal, which is the release of monthly for-purchase crochet patterns, with the caveat that all Patreon subscriptions that pledge $20 or more per month will receive these crochet patterns for free for the duration of their patronage. Patterns will wind up for sale for <$5 in my Etsy shop when they do eventually release, so if you'd like to see that happen sooner rather than later PLEDGE $5 OR MORE A MONTH TO ME AND MAGICALLY THEY WILL APPEAR.
Really though I'd really like to do this, and to have the patronage each month guaranteed that will allow me to take the time to do this each month.
There are a lot of neat rewards for being a patron and I'm thinking of more stuff to add all the time, so please check it out!

Only $15 to releasing CROCHET PATTERNS EVERY MONTH. Patreon~
Posted 10 years agohttps://www.patreon.com/greywombat
I'm so excited! I'm literally only $15 away in Patreon subscriptions to start releasing a crochet pattern for sale in my shop every single month, ANDDDDD if you pledge $20 or more a month you automatically get each crochet pattern I release FOR FREE.
So if you are one of the people that have been asking me about patterns, now is a great time to subscribe to my Patreon, and I have recently changed my subscriber benefits to now allow access to a custom subscriber-only blog showing details about my work process that will be available this month to everyone subscribing to the appropriate levels.
So as it stands right now, for example, if you pledge $25 a month to me, you get an animal keychain every month, access to my contributor-only blog, AND a free crochet pattern every month for example! There are other reward levels though and I'm thinking of new stuff to add all the time now so I'm really hoping to start drumming up more interest!
I also have a lot of commission-related work I've finished up over the past week that I'll be posting soon and I'll be updating my availability slots, so I will have some more available once I get those projects posted.
I'm feeling so good lately. I've been majorly productive and I'm so excited to finally be back in the swing of art. I feel much more like myself again.

Posted 10 years agoHi everyone~~ I've been working on getting everything squared away, and I've made some progress, and I am feeling much more optimistic about everything lately.
Unfortunately I didn't make what I'd hoped to make at Anthrocon this year, so I'm still struggling to try to make up for that loss of income. I made barely a quarter in sales based on what I make at Anthrocon on average, but I'm trying to cause that to make me try harder and come up with some better items and increase the quality of what I do overall as best I can.
I still owe some people a bit in refunds for projects I wasn't well enough to complete last year, but those are almost paid off, and I've made some decent progress in my current commissions and have been working steadily on Etsy orders as well, which is all very encouraging. I am tentatively open again for customs, but will be keeping it limited to a low amount until I am chugging along at a good pace again. So please be patient with me!
As always, my Etsy is open: http://greywombat.etsy.com for premade things, and is actually going to be overhauled soon so keep an eye there. And as always contact with with questions. I should be more active here on FA again, but you can also email me at vombatiformes[at]gmail.com!

Posted 10 years agoHey, sorry for the delay. I've been meaning to make this update for a while but things keep HAPPENING.
I've been trying very hard to balance my custom commissions (on here), Etsy orders (typically smaller/less complicated, not custom), hamster rescue responsibilities (we recently got an intake of nearly a dozen new hamsters on top of those we already have so it's been very chaotic), and Life Stuff and I'm slowly starting to get a balance.
Here is the updated commission list here:

I am trying to do the equivalent of work in each "camp" throughout the day (i.e., an hour on an Etsy order, an hour on a custom order as an example.) I'm also working on my stock for Anthrocon which is complicating things further, but I'm desperately hoping to be caught up by the con.
If you have any questions or concerns about anything you can certainly send me a message. :)
