Art Talk
Posted 8 months agoHeya, I was thinking about how the 2010s art culture kinda sucked. If you drew even slightly off you'd have someone critique you in most obnoxious way and that permiated me and stopped me doing art for months at a time. Now that I'm doing art day after day I'm seeing I'm getting better but it makes me think of like... 12 year olds were harassed for posting bad art and adults who most of them weren't artists would go "heh, look at this literal child not knowing basic art fundamentals" and it caused a ton of people to quit and the ones who learned art fundamentals because of that culture made art throughout the 2010s didn't archive it because they posted it on long deactivated accounts where they learned art and are now "GigaFurryMadness" on Twitter who "started their art journey" in 2021 with anatomically correct details that require at least 2-3 years of mastery. All I'm really saying is that if anyone reads this and is a struggling artists with a feeling they won't get anywhere, keep going and you will because even "GigaFurryMadness" drew like you once, they just got good at hiding the fact they were "Joshua The Wolf" in 2015.
If you want to keep up with my art journey check my scraps because I post a lot there

Thinking of changing my main sona
Posted 8 months agoHiya, I've been thinking of changing my main sona to be a fox kitty dragon hybrid that is light blue, purple and white but I've also been thinking of just keeping my current fox and making him a brown fox (like almost his current hair colour) for months at this point, at least since mid 2024. I've gone against every idea since like I have a lot of commisioned art with his current design.
I'm thinking of going for the brown fox since I feel like it fits him as a character better but It also feels weird because it's new. I'll see how I feel when I digitize my drawing of him

Bestiary 1 - Vinewraiths
Posted 9 months agoThese are plants that infect people via prolonged contact to spread spores into the skin that grow out to replace the fur with a leaf like replacement. It comes in multiple stages.
Initial Infection : The person will gain a fear of darkness and of fire even if they didn't have it before or have overcame it.
Fur/Hairloss : The person's fur will start shedding, this is the point of no return if it isn't dealt with.
The Vines : At this stage the mind is influenced by the plant but can still make decisions, although these decisions are influenced by survival, which is often to destroy those who want to destroy them. They are easily tricked though. They appear as furless or hairless people with vines in their skin, slightly bulging out.
The Leafcoat : This is the most common type. These individuals have lost to speak, only communicating through chemical signals and telepathy to other Vinewraiths. They often die before they reach the final stage in their lifecycle due to them being very aggressive and territorial
The Hidden : Slow, dumb, can't do multi step processes. It's speculated that these are the ones giving orders to Leafcoats and are too busy sending signals to actually do anything themselves, they attack via combusting balls of plant matter. They often hide in plain sight due to their intense foliage. Eventually they wither away, spreading their spores through the air. The hidden tell the vine and leafcoats what to do while hiding in dense foliage. They are too busy communicating with other vinewraiths to protect themselves, that's why they hide in dense foliage.
They communicate via a magic hivemind that roots to the infected's brain. It can be stopped by fire or by selectivly killing the vines infesting the infected's brain. This will leave them disabled and changed slightly at the DNA level. However those who are disabled by it cannot be infected by it again. People who have been disabled by vinewraiths usually have a permanent fear of darkness and fire, often times a fear of vines too unless this is dealt with via magic.
Resurrecting a person who was taken over by a vinewraith is inadvisable without killing the vinewraith as their soul cant return to their body leaving a soulless body that acts on impulse.
They can be controlled by being tricked through chemical stimulation or via a magic controlchip

What is The Afternoon?
Posted 9 months agoThe afternoon in the simplest terms is a story about some friends dealing with magic and extraterrestrial threats. The planet Terra is a technological state similar to the early 2000s with technology supplemented with magic and alien tech leading them to have technology that is way beyond our time, including robotics and spirit controlled automatons. The big threat is a species called the Vinewraiths, a magic very adaptable plant species that can take over minds and corrupt the body at the genetic level, this makes them a threat to terrestrial species and even alien species.
There's two main canons for The Afternoon
Afternooniverse
This is the main one, considered always canon. It is mostly free of references to real life (with some exceptions) and holds the whole story.
Non-canon
This is mostly for self indulgent art and stories that contain elements of The Afternoon such as the characters, setting, magic system, etc. This includes my machinimas, any art of my fursona (which is one of the characters in The Afternoon) and this profile itself.
