Relentless Waves Update
General | Posted 2 years agoSo here's the hang-up on the next chapter of Relentless Waves. In all my infinite wisdom, I've decided to tell it from a 1st person POV. An alien, with two minds and one body, from the 1st person POV. And it gets even better! This (former human) alien isn't used to having two minds, and they are constantly joining and separating to change their identity along with control over different bodily coordinations!
Maybe you see the problem there? It's confusing as all heck, and I wrote it. I can't predict how much sense it'll make to anybody else. I'll go out on a limb and guess none.
That's where I'm at. Agonizing over whether to let y'all try to make sense of that acid trip. Or rewrite everything to be (slightly) less confusing by having somebeing with a more conventional mind observe the havoc of three species on one island.
I also have come to realize that most of my more recent stories are kind of downers. Which is, of course, entirely my fault and may or may not be an external expression of my cynical contempt for... uh... humanity. So look for something more lighthearted and whimsical to come next. Perhaps it'll even help my mood. Not responsible for any cavities that may develop reading what I have in mind.

Story Development Ideas

In addition to the next chapter of Relentless waves, which I still hope to release by the end of the month, I have been working on a few other short stories set within the continuity that might be of interest to you. But I have so many of them I'm torn on which to prioritize! So that's where you come in. Which of the following would you enjoy seeing developed first?
A.) A Public Service Announcement on the dos and do nots of human dragon interactions.
B.) The test trials of devices meant for dragons by members of the targeted demographic.
C.) A human team tasked with clearing houses of insolvent tenants in the aftermath of economic collapse.
D.) Tom and Kim discussing the prevalence of alien intelligent life with Prometheus.

Well I finally pulled the trigger on it. I don't know if the story is as perfect as it should be, but I had brooded over it long enough. The new and almost entirely revised edition of "A New Purpose" is now on sale as an ebook. Huzzah!

For whoever decides to take a look at it, I certainly hope you enjoy the new and unreleased artwork that is scattered throughout it and the tweaks to the plot!
On another note; many apologies for the delay in a new chapter of Relentless Waves. Look for the next installment before the end of April though, so I hope you don't lose faith that the story lives.

March Update!

I am sorry for being scarce these days and leaving you all hanging on quite the cliffhanger with Restless Waves! There are a few sticking points in the story that I'm just having an incredibly hard time getting past. Further complicating the matter is that I continue to obsess over getting my initial story (A New Purpose) ready for publication but continue to find myself just thoroughly unhappy with its current status after hearing some very good points about the plot from those I've asked to Beta read it.
But fret not my admirers of dragonkind! For work does continue as I nibble around the edges of my colossal writers block by taking stabs at two other story lines to help me get back into the rhythm of writing. One story, centered yet again around Kim Schwarzkopf, takes place eleven years prior to the events of A New Purpose and gives some more background to her and Tom. The other story will be centered around Alex months after the events of Hurricane Kim.
When will new material be posted? You may be feverishly asking. The best answer I can give you is soon depending on how much chaos I encounter as I move between countries yet again for my job and how long it takes my mind to resettle instead of zooming from one new experience to the next.
I beg you all to keep the faith, and you will be rewarded with new material. My story is far from dead.

December Update!

It's been a couple of months, so I'm here to give you an update on the confusing workings of the mind of Walnut45. Progress continues on the revisions to 'A New Purpose' and I have come to realize a rather inconvenient truth. Reimagining a story is even harder than it is to write it in the first place!
Seriously. It's like ripping apart a jigsaw puzzle and then putting it back together while expecting the same pieces to form a different picture.
The good news is that I'm nearly finished and that anyone who might like to see the published version of this story is going to see an edition with something like the last third of the story completely rewritten. The bad news is...that the only progress I've made on Relentless Waves is brain storming a skeletal framework for the next chapter or two.
I could give you a bunch of excuses about why the progress has been so slow, but I will not and instead apologize to any who may have wondered when the next update would be coming. If you had to pin me to a date, I'd say January.
I hope all of you have a most enjoyable holiday season where you appreciate what matters most with your loved ones and/or friends. Stay safe out there, and I'll see you in the new year.

Just thought I'd drop a quick heads up that the next chapter will be delayed a few weeks as I work on other material. A while back I had paid someone to go through an extensive line-by-line edit of "A New Purpose" and lately I have finally gone back to follow up on what I'd been told. So, I'm basically rewriting the entire first story and it is taking a good bit more time than I had thought it would.
Why I am doing that? you may ask. Well that is easy. Because I want to give publishing a story a try to see what becomes of it! If anyone might by the longest of odds be interested in that (A dragon transformation / first contact niche story probably has wide appeal right?), I will post further information as the plan solidifies and I work out the logistics of the whole deal. I can promise you that with the number of revisions to the material as I strive to close plot holes, add depth to the characters, and add/delete scenes it will be worth reading. That will not be all either. As I currently have plans to incorporate into the story a number of unreleased images based upon my characters that I have commissioned. So...rewritten story and new eye candy. Lots of temptation I am sure for my legions of super-fans.
