Announcing Wanikami20 V.S. Battle!
Posted 4 years agoSince I decided to leave my twitter unlocked for a while longer, I'm gonna take that opportunity to do something I had wanted to do for a while. Wanikami20 V.S. Battle is a character popularity poll on my Twitter featuring 32 of the top denizens of the Waniverse. Because of how ambitious this poll's becoming, I decided to run 4 polls at a time for 5 days. I think that's ample time for people to participate per round. Of course, I'll leave links to each of the polls up on here as well if you wanna participate. Honestly, I wanted to do this as a way to come up with random parings that might not ever happen normally. I doubt I'll never draw out the results of every match, but it would be fun to come up with a way to. <=3

New Gaming Stream: Krokomaru's Game Hoard!

Something else I wanted to do lately was to show off video games from my 30+ year collection and more on Twitch more often, so I made myself a new Twitch account to do just that. This'll just be for fun and there's no set schedule currently, but I do hope you guys will stop in and visit once in a while. I also learned about how to make an animation that would react to my voice on mic, so I also drew Krokomaru looking up and talking while he played.
Right now, I'm playing Zelda LttP Randomizer. I always enjoyed watching those played on GDQ and let's play streams, and I wanted to give one a try on stream. ^_^

New Face, New Era, New Fursona: Krokomaru

I had been wanting to do something like this for a couple of years now, and with Wanikami20, the celebration of 20 years of posting art online, I think now is the best time to do it.
Since 2001, I have always been known as Sobek Wanikami, named after the ancient Egyptian crocodile god. I created the fursona as an avatar who would represent me online and who would interact with other people’s fursonas. As time went on, I found myself developing a “Waniverse” with a multitude of characters to inhabit Sobek’s world, each with their own lives and backstory, friends and family, rivals and lovers. The name “Wanikami” has developed into a clan of krokodyles in a fleshed-out universe; Sobek, Butch, Suchos, Arsinoe, Sochet, and more. As I see it, the name now symbolizes these characters more than just an online penname I’ve been going by for the past twenty years. The character known as Sobek Wanikami essentially has a life of his own now, and I was concerned that he might not be me anymore.
With all this in mind, I think it’s time for me to separate myself from “Sobek Wanikami” and to establish a new personal fursona to represent myself as the artist, totally disconnected and unrelated to the Waniverse. Enter “Krokomaru.” I created his design a couple of years ago; a mix of Sobek, Butch, and Lance, but his snout is more crocodilian. Unlike Sobek, I won’t try to create an elaborate backstory or continuity with this guy. If anything, consider Krokomaru as the “creator” behind the Waniverse, like yours truely. Of course, I’m not going to abandon the Waniverse. Those characters are too hot to just ignore, to be honest, and I have a lot of ideas left to draw out. I had initially planned to do this on July 25th, the 20th anniversary of the debut of Sobek Wanikami. However, I was a little impatient and wanted to just go ahead and do it now.
As of right now, I haven’t decided if I’m going to completely rebrand myself and essentially start over after 20 years of establishing an online presence as “Wanikami.” Perhaps a soft reboot might be a refreshing change of pace. We’ll see, but until I figure that out, I created a new Twitter account for Krokomaru.

I plan to keep this account public and use it for general, furry, and gaming content, and continue to use the “wanikami” twitter as a NSFW art account. It’d also be nice to be able to reply to tweets made by people not following “wanikami” for a change. XD

Posted 5 years agoThis past Saturday was my 19th anniversary of using the screenname "Wanikami", and 9 days later will be my 38th birthday, meaning Krokocon is approaching. Last year, I streamed art and games all weekend, and I want to do the same this weekend too. Besides that...I hadn't planned much. XD I guess, as usual, I'll just wing it.
