Carrie 2013
Posted 12 years agoSo I went to see this...and it actually wasn't too shabby. Obviously it was somewhat updated for modern technology and effects, but retained the core of the original story. I thought it was good. The actors were solid, and although I kinda wanted to bitchslap the gym teacher since it's her own antics that cause the destruction of the prom and all, that was still kind of the point. And the movie really makes it work as well as the original 1970s film did. Maybe even better. I still haven't seen the TV movie version of this or Carrie 2, but the original holds up even three (technically four, as Carrie 2 was originally it's own film till they realized how close it was to Carrie and rewrote it as a sequel) incarnations down the line. I would recommend seeing the new version if nothing else since, while it does add a bit of modern day tech to the story, it doesn't particularly deviate from King's original concept or the 1970s film with Sissy Spacek, and plays out very well.

is doing a free art raffle to be found here Go take a look!Back from New York Comic Con 2013
Posted 12 years agoWell, I'm back from NYCC 2013, got some wicked commissions done there, including two great ones from my new friend
for a price that I wish more artists went by since they would be affordable then. Plus I'm sure they'd get a lot more customers. While the show was as loud and boisterous as ever, it was also the greatest week of the year for me since it's one of the few chances I get to mingle with fellow comic, anime, manga, and film fans in large numbers. Plus, I do manage to make friends there every year, though keeping in contact isn't always as easy as I might prefer.
I'm going to throw up a few examples of the kind of writing style I use so that people interested in commissioning me for writing will know some of what they're getting. Though one could argue that a Journal gives some insight to a person's writing as well. As shown on my main userpage, commission and trade info can be found here.
That's all I can think of for the moment. Catcha on the flip side, peeps!

Writing commissions open.
Posted 12 years agoI am taking my first five commissions for stories. Refer to my writing commissions info up on top of my profile. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Writing Commision/Trade info
Posted 12 years agoWell, I'm going to be attempting an experiment. I don't know if anyone else on FA does this, but I suspect they do since not everyone can draw or feels comfortable drawing, so I figured I will put my own service out there. I am now going to be accepting commissions for writing.
Please bear in mind, the reason for the prices being what they are is both length and the fact that I am devoting time to the commissions which would normally be spent working on various pieces of fiction of my own which I have been working on for the last few years which are in varying stages of readiness for publication, which still requires money for the preparation of materials and other such issues.
Please note: page lengths are based on word count from a copy of Microsoft Word with one-inch margins on all sides, as per standard manuscript submission guidelines as detailed in Formatting and submitting your manuscript, Third Edition, published by Writer's Digest.
PRICING
NON-SEXUAL STORIES
snippet (1 page, roughly 347 words): $10.00 USD
scene (5 pages, roughly 1,735 words): $25.00 USD
extended scene (10-12 pages, roughly between 3,470-4,164 words) : $40.00 USD
Short story (50 pages, roughly 17, 350 words): $75.00 USD
Flash Novelette (80 pages, roughly 27,760 words): $100.00 USD
Novelette (100 pages-150 pages, roughly 34,700- 52,050 words): $125 USD
Non-sexual stories can have sex scenes in them, but sex and/or romance are not the focus of such stories. For erotica prices, see below.
PRICING
EROTICA
snippet (1 page, roughly 347 words): $12.00 USD
scene (5 pages, roughly 1,735 words): $30.00 USD
extended scene (10-12 pages, roughly between 3,470-4,164 words) : $50.00 USD
Short story (50 pages, roughly 17, 350 words): $90.00 USD
Flash Novelette (80 pages, roughly 27,760 words): $120.00 USD
Novelette (100 pages-150 pages, roughly 34,700- 52,050 words): $140.00 USD
Erotica prices are higher because I am not as practiced with them and so they are a bit more difficult. Erotica stories will be stories that focus on romance and/or extensive sexual scenes.
WHAT I WILL NOT WRITE:
Snuff
Pedophilia
torture for the sake of torture
vore
scat
male/male romance/sex scenes or relationships. (This is not because I have anything against gay men, but because I cannot write something I cannot picture in my head. I feel I need to be able to make myself feel what the characters feel as I'm writing them in the story in order to give them some semblance of life as I create the story. As I am a straight male, I have a difficult time picturing myself being attracted to another male, and if I don't believe it, it will show in my writing because any gay males would feel flat. If I can't make it seem real in the story to me, it's likely not going to feel real to the commissioner of the work, and I won't produce sub-par writing just to make a buck.)
WHAT I WILL WRITE
Action/Adventure
Sci-Fi
Fantasy (Caveat: I am not the biggest reader of Fantasy so whatever Fantasy I produce may be different from what you expect.)
Tournament stories (Characters involved in fighting tournaments, a la Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat, etc., along with events that lead to the characters being at the tournement itself and around it between fights.)
Any other ideas are case by case, as I am not great shakes at thriller, mystery, or drama, but if you believe I am the writer for you, you may ask, and if I feel I can make the idea work, I will take the commission.
REGARDING CHARACTERS:
This part is important. I will write about your characters and, if their creators note me with proof that they have given permission for you to do so, have them encounter other people's characters here on the site. However I prefer that all characters be your own idea if possible. I am unsure of the legality of writing straight up 'fan fiction' for profit featuring established characters. Though if the character is clearly written as a parody of the original, this might— MIGHT— be possible. But for the time being, I am not going to be having your characters meet up with The Doctor, Captain Picard, Spider-Man, etc. until I know for sure how legal parodies of characters are. I will edit this section as time and ability provide.
PAYMENT METHODS
I believe in multiple methods of payment being available. As such I accept Paypal, Cash by mail, payment via Western Union, and money order by mail. No personal checks please. Payment by paypal is preferred, but Western Union will work just as well. I will note you my email address if you wish to pay via Paypal, and make arrangements for how to set up western union if necessary, as I have not used Western Union myself yet.
HOW TO COMMISSION ME:
1. Send me a note saying you want a commission. I may have no slots for commissions at the time, in which case you'll be given the option to be put on a waiting list for when slots become available.
2. Once I get back to you via note, send me a note providing all the details of what you want, including the size of the commission, what characters are involved, what the driving force of the characters' journey is (Essentially the purpose of the plot, whether it be revenge for a fallen friend/family member, wanting to save the world, etc.) , and the general resolution to the story you have in mind. (Note, if you want to leave the resolution up to me, I will take five percent off the price of your commission. )
3. Once I have accepted the commission, I will require payment up front for anything below Short Story price. I can work on installment payment plans for Short Story through Novelette, but the work will not begin until payment starts on higher priced work. The completed work will also not be provided to you until payment has been made in full.
4. Please be aware that I am also in the process of writing novels of my own intended for professional publication at the same time I am working on commissions, so these may not necessarily have immediate turnarounds. Just as is the case with artists who provide commissions here, I have a life outside of these commissions, and so it may interfere with the speed in which I can get these to you. If you absolutely must have these by a certain date please make this known to me when you commission me, so that I can hunker down and get the stuff done as soon as possible to meet your deadline.
5. Should you ask for a commission but no attempt at payment is made, you will be rotated back into the waiting list or, if you decide not to have your commission done, obviously dropped from rotation altogether.
6. I reserve the right to maintain copies of these stories for my own personal work portfolio and retain all rights to the work. The work will be provided as a read-only PDF, with author's name and date of finished product in the header of the first page. You may post the work on your web site, but I must be credited as the author. I also reserve the right to put up the work in my own gallery, website, blog, etc. All ideas and characters in the work not directly provided by the commissioner will be considered property of the author (i.e. me) Anyone wishing to purchase the full rights to the work will need to make this known at the time of the first note, and pay an additional charge to be discussed. Otherwise all rights are considered to remain with the author rather than the commissioner of the work. Any stories which are not paid for in full by the time of completion will become the property of the author. Any ideas presented for commission which are not paid for are considered to have been given to the author, who reserves the right to use and/or alter for the author's own purposes.
6a. If you wish me to ghost write for you (in other words, I write the story but put your name in as the author in whatever is sent to you) this can be arranged, however I reserve the right to keep the work (with detailed information about the fact that I am indeed the original author working under the commissioner's name for the purpose of the work) and all invoices regarding it on record for purposes of legal protection against any and all attempts to claim plagiarism or other such things. I don't believe anyone would necessarily buy something from me and then try to claim I plagiarized them, but weirder things have happened in the world. This is just to cover my own ass.
7. I reserve the right not to accept a commission for any reason whatsoever. This is non-negotiable. I will try to make a point to at least give a reason for why I don't accept a commission, but there may come the occasional time when I will deny the work for reasons I have no desire to share.
TRADES
I am willing to accept trades for my work. Most likely to be artwork for writing, as I honestly cannot draw even stick figures to save my life. The more detailed the story on my side, the more detailed I would likely ask the art to be in exchange from the other half of the trade.
Examples of my work
(note, all pieces here are currently Fanfiction only. However an original piece will be joining these in the future that will be posted here on furaffinity.):
The Shogun Six (WIP) My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fanfic.
The Conversion Bureau: The Warrior's Way (WIP) My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fanfiction based on the Conversion Bureau concept.
The Last (Complete. One Shot.) Godzilla: The Series/The Last Unicorn Crossover fic.
You Deserve This (Complete. One Shot. For now.) Naruto/Rosario x Vampire/Ghost Rider crossover. Not my best work. Done for the pure hell of it as a fan sequel to The True Monster done with permission of the original fic's author. May have a few minor spelling mistakes in it, but I'm too lazy to fix them at present.
Funeral For a Friend (Complete. One Shot.)
Digimon Tamers fanfic.
Angel of Vengeance (WIP)
Digimon Tamers/Spawn crossover.
Shadowed Leaf (WIP) Naruto fic.

Names and the problem of coming up with them
Posted 12 years agoOne of the biggest problems I ever end up facing when writing, is naming characters. Especially when the book or story in question features beings with their own language even if they can speak others. Largely because I always wonder if the names I come up with are good enough.
Harder still is when I need to come up with names for people who are related to each other. Normal people usually have normal names. But again, when you're dealing with characters from a fictional race, it becomes that much harder since it's difficult to come up with a name that feels right. I have such a character now. I've tried a few names on him already, but none feel right. I may have to start thinking somewhere outside the box for this one....
At least coming up with a look for him was that much easier by comparison. I should probably get around to getting him and his relatives commissioned at some point. Cause God knows I can't draw to save my life. Luckily, I can at least write.

Weird weeks
Posted 14 years agoWell, this has been one weird two weeks.
First off, I just found out I have a mild case of diabetes. So I'm gonna have to figure out how to deal with that. Thank God we have a YMCA here. Exercise will be a big help in arresting, if not altogether reversing that problem. I won't lie. I had a mild freak-out over that news since I was born with a number of congenital birth defects thanks to having rubella when I was born, so I figured I'd already hit my quota of health related problems in my life. But noooooo. Someone up there ain't done making a joke outta me yet.
Ah well. I survived a horse attack when I was a kid. I'll survive this.
Beyond that, Borders is going out of business utterly. My only response to that is holy flying FUCK is that ever bad news. Bad enough we lost the one here in town. Now they're going out of business altogether? There goes my hope of ever doing a book signing at one.
Maybe Barnes and Noble will let me do one if I ever get big enough? Or maybe Books-a-million will take up residence here. ....Is it me, or have we about run out of great bookstores in this country? I've never even seen a books-a-million store, and up till recently, had never heard of'em either.
Speaking of books, my primary one is still being written but is— thank God— getting close to the finish line. Only another third of the story left to go. This means that while I'm working on stopping my disease and getting ready for NYAF/NYCC, I can start focusing on some of my short stories too. I haven't had a chance to deal with them in a long while now. Here's hoping that soon enough those will be hitting bookshelves. Whether that be on their own or as part of anthologies, I'm hoping to get one of these done and out by New Year's. I'm hoping to finish my novel by mid-october at the earliest and early december at the latest. Research is slowing things down a bit there but it's not as bad as it was when I started.
That's about it from me. Ciao for now peeps.

A sense of accomplishment....rarely do I have a reason.
Posted 14 years agoBut in this case, I most certainly do! I've been working on a manuscript since around summer '07. It's been slow going, but I have finally hit four hundred pages tonight, and I'm officially two thirds of the the way through this thing!
I can't begin to say what a relief it is to see the finish getting so close. When I wrote out the timeline of events for the book, I wasn't sure how long it would take me to get to this point, but I finally did. So now it's all a run through to the final bell. I'll keep everyone posted on how the progress is. Ciao for now!

Well, why not?
Posted 14 years agoSwiped this from Wielder's journal since it seemed like fun.
LAYER ONE : THE OUTSIDE
- Name: Marc
-Eye Color: ...You know, I'm honestly not sure. People keep telling me they're either a soft brown or hazel, so I guess I'll go with that.
- Hair Style/Color: Semi-long. (Maybe a little past my shoulders? I've never checked.) Brown with some auburn highlights.
- Height: 5'7"-5'8" (Every time I get that checked it seems to vary, but my ID says 5'8")
- Clothing style: I like to be comfy, so usually shorts or sweatpants, some form of wrestling or anime related T-shirt, and in the summer, a vest. I also have two pendants, one of the Undertaker's insignia and the other a Sunagakure symbol, and a Green Lantern Ring I've gotten in the habit of wearing. Odd I wear these as much as I do cause I was never one for jewlery.
- Best physical feature: *shrugs* Hell if I know.
LAYER TWO: THE INSIDE
- Your fears: Horses. Heights to a lesser extent.
- Your guilty pleasure: Curling up with a damn good book when I should be working on my own, the Kamen Rider franchise, the Godzilla film series, and Smallville.
- Your biggest pet peeve: .....Too many to list just one, and they seem to come and go as quick as the wind.
- Your ambitions for the future: Finish one of my current books and get it out there for people to read. After that, write more books for people to enjoy. In other words? Be an author for the rest of my life if I can manage it.
LAYER THREE: THOUGHTS
- Your first thoughts waking up: My brain usually doesn't get moving till an hour in, but usually to the effect of 'Okay, where am I in (whichever book pops first into my head) and what should I have happen next'.
- What you think about most: Story plots.
- What you think about before bed: New story hooks.
- You think your best quality is: The fact that I'm willing to be me, and be damned what anyone else thnks.
LAYER FOUR: WHAT'S BETTER?
- Single or group dates: Wouldn't know. Haven't been on either one.
- To be loved or respected: Being loved would be nice, but I can live with being respected.
- Beauty or brains: Both, if I had my way.
- Dogs or cats: Again, both. Grew up around both of them my entire life up till now, and I can't really see one being more important than the other.
LAYER FIVE: DO YOU?
- Lie: Every now and then, yeah.
- Believe in yourself: Yep. I kind of have to in order to do the stuff I wanna do. Otherwise there'd be no point in it.
- Believe in love: Hasn't been a major consideration in my life for a long damn time, since I haven't worried about it in over a decade, but I think it's out there. I just don't see it ever being a worry again in my lifetime. ...Huh. That actually sounds more like I've given up on it now that I think about it. *shrugs* Oh well.
- Want someone: Not at the moment. Like I said above, I haven't been concerned with romance in a long time. I guess I might want someone someday. But at the moment, last thing really on my mind.
LAYER SIX: EVER?
- Been on stage: Couple times, yeah. Especially if being in a wrestling ring counts.
- Done drugs: Nope. That's something I'm pretty proud of, too.
- Changed who you were to fit in: Hell no.
LAYER SEVEN: FAVORITES
- Favorite color: Green, black, and silver, the colors of an old character I created years ago.

- Best eye color: Anything but orange.
- Best hair color: Again, probably anything but orange.

Kamen Rider
Posted 15 years agoOkay, get ready to traumatize your funny bones.
For those who know me— which is sadly almost nobody here— you know that in recent years I have become a fan of the Kamen Rider franchise, with the inclusion of the Americanized adaptation of Kamen Rider called Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight, which won a Daytime Emmy Award for best stunts in a daytime TV show.
And frankly I call bull-fucking-shit shennanigans there. It's a MARTIAL ARTS inspired show complete with fight scenes, usually between the main characters who almost all happen to be characters in SUPER-POWERED ARMOR going up against a bunch of soap operas in this field. This was a crapshoot from the word go simply because most soap operas have virtually no stunts to speak of. How the hell did anyone think Dragon Knight WOULDN'T win the emmy for that? Don't get me wrong. The stunts in question were the ones done BY the people who adapted the show since several dozen combat scenes had to be done by them since they didn't exist in the original footage and I'm glad a set of American tokusatsu stunts got some recognition. But who thought KRDK would lose to soap operas in a stunts field?
No, seriously, I want a show of hands from people who can honestly say they didn't fucking see it coming.
*counts the hands*
Well if there are any people raising their hands for that, I declare you to have been living under a rock for the past thirty years.
Anyway, there's a guy on youtube called TJ Omega who has done a number of videos reviwing Kamen Rider merchandise among other things and on another website, he has put up a hilarious rant about the Kamen Rider shows detailing his top 10 'what the fuck' moments in the existence of the franchise. Because it's funny enough to get me almost to the point of laughing hard enough to black out from the way he just completely makes fun of everything, I share it with the world:

Go there and make yourself laugh. Or let him do it for you. Either way, it was laugh worthy.
