Wastelanders Chapter 2 update
General | Posted 2 years agoI'm making decent progress. About 1/3rd fully inked, 1/3rd roughed out, and 1/3rd plotted out but not much drawing done. I think I'm on target to start releasing new pages in January.
Damn this is a ton of work, but I'm really excited to start releasing new pages again. Expect at least a way for people to donate to keep the webcomic going strong and helping to fund my colorist. I want to launch the webcomic on a few more platforms this time around also.
This next chapter is the real test to see if there is an appetite for the kind of story I'm trying to tell. I'm fairly certain the people in our niche will enjoy it, but I don't know about people outside of it.
Oh and by the way, no more single page releases. Chapter 2 will be two-page spreads each week. The weekly releases just flow so much better that way, and that's kind of how I designed it this time around.

Looking for a colorist to join me on Wastelanders!
General | Posted 2 years ago90% sure I'm going to hire a colorist
General | Posted 2 years agoI have a comic. Oh, you were aware?
When the linework is done, it will need coloring. It's a lot of work for just one person. Paid position + your name credited as my colorist on each page.
Won't be an enormous amount since this is just a hobby (currently, but maybe someday it could be something more) but just planting that seed now.

Closing Comms + trades
General | Posted 2 years agoNew art for the next month or two will be scarce. All my Drex-drawing time will be devoted to getting my webcomic done and hopefully ready for a January re-launch. Thanks to everybody who picked up a sketch during the sale!
Wastelanders Chap 1+2 update!
General | Posted 2 years agoHey, hey, guess what?
Those two-page spreads I promised for Wastelanders chapter 1? They're finally done. With a brand new cover art page to go along with it. I didn't do any full re-draws but I tweaked some pages along the way, and it is the best version of chapter 1 that exists. But, I think I'm going to re-release all of those about a month before I continue with Chapter 2.
Chapter 1 is kind of slow, but it was always just meant to be a setup for what's next. I like to think of chapter 2 as where the real action and the real meat of the story starts. It is sort of a return to my roots with the more granular goo transformations and stuff. I have all the panels and stuff for Chapter 2 planned out and a few pages are well underway, now I just have to draw my ass off and get it done. I'm hoping to start releasing new pages next January-ish.

Signal Boost: Aver is offering to create 'Sonas
General | Posted 2 years agoAre you a lurker? Don't have your own 'sona yet? How about one that is both made of goo and a sexy salamander to boot?
That's what Aver is offering to help you with right now. This is the kind of thing I would have loved to have been offered before I knew how to draw and could make my own.
I don't know the exact details, but if this interests you, it wouldn't hurt to reach out to him on the Twitters.

Some thoughts on character design
General | Posted 2 years agoSometimes I like to hear other peoples' thoughts when it comes to creating characters, so I figured I'd randomly share some thoughts of my own today. So if you're the type who tunes into FA exclusively to fap and stuff, carry on, amigo! Nothing to see here. :) Buuuut if you're interested in character design, then stick around! Because if you’re a fellow artist and you’re hanging out on this website, well congratulations! YOU TOO, are a character designer.
Designing a ‘sona can be a harrowing experience. What if you reached inside of yourself to pull out who you really are, and...there’s nothing there? Or you don’t like what you came up with? Having overcame that fear though, I’ve learned that designing characters is an iterative process. Most of Drex's personality traits are an honest commentary on how I think of myself and my place in the world, for better or worse. Drex has a lot of my genuine optimism and desire to try and make the world a better place, and one of those ways is by sharing that optimism in a world that could probably use more of it. He also harbors some of my real feelings of loneliness and isolation, constantly battling the things that make him different. (Not lonely in the sense that I’m lacking people around me who care about me, but that my needs and wants are so different from everyone else it makes me feel like, well, a literal alien.) Drex is, simply put, the most deeply personal character I've ever created. As such, I tend to be a little more protective with him and how he is portrayed because in a way, I feel like Drex has become an extension of me. A vulnerable part of me, perhaps, but a part of me that I felt compelled to share.
One of the most useful things that I’ve heard from one of my character design mentors is that every aspect of your character design should matter, and somehow speak to the characters’ personality. What colors they wear, the stuff they carry around with them, how they do their hair, what food they like, etc...there should at least be a consideration for what these things SAY about the character. In other words, don’t give them a cool necklace just because it looks cool. Give it to them because their parents were jewelers (or whatever) and the necklace reminds them of a promise they made to their mother on their death bed.
I don’t think character design is necessarily all about the character itself either, by the way. I believe that the world your character lives in also matters. That’s why I tend to put more stock in having backgrounds and having a universe that they live in more than a lot of artists. I want to emphasize that these characters *live somewhere.* If you were to have one takeaway one piece of advice, it would be this: people are products of their environments, experiences, and the people around them, and that is where our actual stories stem from. Our physical appearances are, in the grand scheme of things, fairly superficial.
(Oh boy, did I just spoil one of the major themes of Wastelanders?)
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

I haven't forgotten (2-page spreads)
General | Posted 2 years agoYes, those two-page spreads are still coming for Wastelanders chapter 1. At the very least, I want to include a brand new cover page to go along with it, though.
I've also contemplated going back and touching up the comic to make it look the best it could possibly be, but I will probably opt to just let it rock and move on to chapter 2 at this point.

General | Posted 2 years agoI keep my discord tag handy in my profile because I welcome anyone to just come by and chat. If you want to talk about goo stuff, nerd culture, or just art in general, those are my favorite subjects. I'm not usually the one to initiate conversations on there, but if y'all ever need somebody to talk to for whatever reason, come hit me up. I consider anyone a goo-fan a friend.

Future plans for Wastelanders...and beyond!
General | Posted 2 years agoOkay slimelords, the first chapter (first issue?) of Wastelanders is beginning to wrap up! I put a LOT of time and effort into bringing these to you weekly, so for the people who have been reading along I hope you've been enjoying it thus far. After this first issue, I feel like we get into the real meat of the story... the action heavy, fun stuff.
With the first chapter wrapping up, you can look forward to a few things:
-The promised two-page spreads of the entire comic (the best way to view the story).
-I'm looking into hosting my webcomic on either its' own dedicated website or a Webtoons-type platform. If you know of any good webtoons sites for hosting furry comics, please let me know!
-A bit more availability from me for trades and commissions.
Also, you'll notice that I decided to take down any NSFW that features my Wastelanders characters. Those were actually some of my most-viewed content and I didn't make this decision lightly, but I felt it was time. In doing my first prototype comic that would eventually evolve into Wastelanders, I decided that telling stories was what I really wanted to do with these characters. But rest assured, I am still drawing horny stuff from time to time - I especially love doing them as Comms. I am a degenerate, after all. Just not with my Wastelanders characters.
Lastly, my ultimate hope and dream is that I can support the creation of Wastelanders through ad revenue and/or Patreon supporters. I never want to paywall the webcomic if I can help it. Creating this webcomic does not cost me anything directly, but it costs me what is known as "opportunity costs." In other words, the time I would be spending creating YCH and pushing for commissions is instead taken up by Wastelanders, which is just a passion project and a labor of love that I put out completely free of charge. But I believe in Wastelanders and the story I'm trying to tell, and I will keep going with it for as long as I can, until I cannot for financial reasons or my willpower runs out.
Out of curiosity, is there anyone who would outright support me if I did launch said Patreon to help support the creation of Wastelanders? Or show up to view it on a website with ads? Let me know.

Reminder to my slime/goo friends
General | Posted 2 years ago...To use your powers responsibly.
-No engulfment without consent. (Whoops.)
-Use doors, even though leaking through cracks in the walls/window is way cooler. Also, we don't want our non-slime friends getting jealous.
-Offer to turn into ramps, stairs, and elevators for those who need them.
-Sleep in containers. Nobody wants to come across a nondescript puddle, lest you be mopped up. Do you like being mixed with dirty water? Nope. Nobody does.

The Two-Page Spread Conundrum!!
General | Posted 2 years agoHello followers, I want to put out some slime tentacles and feel you out on this one.
...No, not in that way. U-unless you want it to...
Anyway!
Despite the single-page releases for Wastelanders I've been doing, I design the story as a two-page spread, which is actually the optimal way to experience the story! But, therein lies the problem. I currently have no space which provides the two-page spreads and I'm not sure how to go about uploading them. As far as I'm concerned I see a few options:
1) Just post the two-page spreads on this account and leave the single-page ones as they are.
2) Post the two-page spreads BUT take down the single-pages.
3) Create another account just for the two-page spreads.
4) Ask Jeeves.
5) Overthink the problem and make a journal about it.
Thoughts? :)
(Oh by the way, next week's will be two-page spread for sure. Drex's intro and DrexCorp Lab exterior reveal.)

[Research Study] Do slimes breathe?
General | Posted 2 years agoHello and welcome to my interrogation roo---I mean, research laboratory!*
I've been thinking about slimes with noses lately, because honestly I have nostrils and I don't even know what they're for!
Do slime cells get tired and require oxygen, or are the nostrils just for show? Do slimes create lungs temporarily while in their base forms to feed their cells with oxygen, or do they acquire energy via some other method?
If slimes don't require oxygen, do they have an infinite pool of energy and can theoretically go without ever getting tired?
I require more information from my fellow slimes in order to come up with a logical explanation for the slime nostril phenomenon!
*(No, don't ask to be paid for this.)
**(Annie declined to participate, she's busy researching the, um, other holes.)

Regarding trades, collabs, commissions
General | Posted 2 years agoI've been getting asked quite a bit lately by artists wanting to collaborate with me on different stuff like trades, collabs, requests... A surprising amount, I'd say, all things considered. The reality is, though, that I don't have the same time or freedom to do that kind of stuff like I did last year. And when I do, I usually pick to work with people that I haven't done art for before.
With that being said, though, as of right now my commissions are back up. If you're one of those people who wants me to draw for you, this is your golden opportunity. Not only are you getting a great piece, but you're also supporting me while doing so! I see it as a win-win? :)

Sign your work, please!!
General | Posted 2 years agoHey y'all, this is just a reminder that if you're an artist, you need to protect your work by either signing it or putting your handle on there, in the event that someone decides they want to take your artwork and post it as their own. If you want to be REAL protective you could edit the copyright metadata using Adobe Bridge (it's easy, just YouTube or Google it).
I just saw a person try to lift some art from FA and post it on DeviantArt and noticed that it wasn't the original artist, just some person who thought the art was cool and decided it was theirs. They were pretty quick to take it down after I called them out, though.

Q&A Answers are coming :)
General | Posted 3 years agoProbably Wednesday I'll start dropping those. I work extremely slow, sorry.
Oh, I deleted my villains' character sheets, by the way. I figured I'd save the reveal for those folks who didn't have it spoiled for them, yet. :P

Q&A now closed + Question about inspiration
General | Posted 3 years agoHey everyone, thank you for those who submitted a question during my Q&A! I went through them and a few of them I'm going to answer with some sort of picture/illustration, and the rest of them I plan on answering in a sort of "rapid fire" round.
DarkwolfKnight00 on DeviantArt asks, "What inspired you to start up this account?" Normally I don't like going OOC and talking about my personal life and stuff, but...It's my one-year anniversary and I'll make an exception. :)
Basically, for me growing up there were a ton of cool slime characters in different TV shows/games that emerged around the same time. Inque and Clayface from Batman (+Beyond) were my absolute favorites, but then there were Chaos 0 from Sonic, that one water chick from Hercules and Xena, and a few others. Slimes were something that I inexplicably gravitated to; to me, it was like having the ultimate superpower. Want the ability to fly? How about camouflage, or enhanced speed or super-strength? What if I told you that slimes could be all of that shit at once?
There was one problem, though; slimes were always the villains! I kind of hated that growing up. But, what if slimes were the heroes, instead? I wanted to explore this idea, and hopefully tell some cool stories along the way. Thus, Annie and Drex were born!
I have a few key artists who have influenced me as well. My main inspiration is easily
LiquidProtean (aka Kai-Chronaius on DA). He was the first I discovered to show slimes in a heroic light, and also showed me that there was a little community of slime-lovers like myself, and maybe I wasn't as weird as I thought for liking something so niche. Second would probably be
Aver-Art, specifically his ability to show slimes in motion has always been a huge inspiration to me.
Also shout-outs to Kingmonster on DeviantArt and his Synthea comic.
