General | Posted 13 years agoYou know the low budget time-travel flick 'PRIMER'?
This is a trailer for his new movie called UPSTREAM COLOR and I can't fucking get enough of it.
What does that title even mean?! Let alone IMDB's plot description: "A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism." FUUUUUU SO HEAVY!!
Two other MUST-SEE trailers:
Jack Kerouac's ON THE ROAD looks flawlessly adapted to film. SO MANY FEELS!
What is this INSANITY?! Bill Murray, Charlie Sheen, and Jason Schwatzman? My god, I wish more films were this hilariously off the wall lol!

General | Posted 14 years agoBest When On Something
General | Posted 14 years agoAfter 2 stints at Burning Man and inspired by
birds journal, here's some beat-y tracks I've discovered. Definitely recommend listening while under the influence of something AND with the appropriate equipment. Bass if you got it!
Ghostpoet - Liiines (xxxy Remix)
http://soundcloud.com/ghostpoet/gho.....nes-xxxy-remix
Mt. Eden - Sierra Leone (Lion King)
Beautiful track, but the video's too long. The editing's strangely entrancing. Enjoy it for a bit :)
https://youtu.be/Xdo269DYsII
Gui Boratto - No Turning Back
Start at 1:45 if you're impatient
https://youtu.be/zFvOQLcIGW8
Magnetic Man - Man
The HARDEST bass drop I've ever heard. You've been warned.
https://youtu.be/j53mfWs8JlE
Plan B - She Said (16 Bit Remix)
https://youtu.be/ejJX7_7oUdA
Professor Green - Jungle (High Rankin Remix)
One of the filthiest, fun, energetic tracks I've found :D
https://youtu.be/7jycfrp2NNI
Frank Ocean - Novacane
Slower, but hypnotic. If you give it a shot, you totally get lost in it. Last shot's worth it, too.
https://youtu.be/TMfPJT4XjAI
Nicolas Jaar - Colomb
This is the most incredible album I've heard in 10-15 years. Not even exaggerating. Jaar's reinvented the electronic music genre - showing the kind of minimalist artistry that can be eked out of it. I EMPHATICALLY suggest turning off all lights and playing this album from the beginning. It's stunning, meticulous, spacey, and unlike anything you've ever heard before. It WILL take you places. My only nitpick is to remove the 8th track before starting.

Aaaa, wtf I'll go for it
General | Posted 14 years agoFirst time I've ever been tagged (you son of a bitch
redapeguy, you) and I've never really paid them mind, but honestly, who doesn't love an ego stroke every now and then?
RULES
01. You must post these rules (Very Important indeed).
02. Each person must post 11 things about themselves in their journal.
03. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and create eleven new questions for the people you tag to answer.
04. You have to choose 11 people to tag and post their icons on your journal.
05. Go to their page and tell them you have tagged him/her.
06. No tag backs.
07. No stuff in the tagging section about "you are tagged if you are reading this." You legitimately (AKA, really, truly, with all honesty) have to tag 11 people.
ABOUT ME:
01. I went to Nigeria at age 8 to save lost souls.
02. I've been stabbed with a bull fighting spear.
03. I'm more sexually attracted to furry than humans (groan)
04. There's VERY few things I won't try once. It's scary where I draw the line.
05. I own and am good with a western .357 six shooter.
06. I've seriously discussed post-apocalypse rendezvous plans with my family.
07. One day I'll quit, sell everything, buy a sailboat, and spend my life exploring tropical islands.
08. I probably was a sailor in another life.
09. After 25 years of earnest religion, losing my faith was the closest I've felt to being born again.
10. I became a man the day I understood just how young a species we are.
11. Stereotypes aside, Burning Man was the most incredible experience of my life.
QUESTIONS FROM TAGGER:
01. If you are an artist, how did you get into doing art? What's the process that led you to learning how to do it? If not, why do you like the kind of art you like?
My brain's physiology made it overwhelmingly the path most pleasing to pursue. That and I had a voracious desire to watch TV/movies as a kid - but was never allowed thanks to my parents. Perhaps that unrequited need turned into the passion that drove me to film school and onward.
02. How did you come to be on this site? Do you consider yourself a furry and what does that mean to you?
Growing up a good Christian kid, sex wasn't till marriage - which, for a young teen in the heady throes of puberty - is an EXCRUCIATING long time! Homosexuality was right out, so I found myself in an asexual limbo of sorts. My body craving carnal satisfaction while my pious mind unleashed torrents of guilt. That is, until one innocent night I was downloading horsey wallpapers for my sister and stumbled across a giant photo of two horses mating. Boom. That triggered something in me I can still feel in my chest to this day. It was a sexual act that hadn't been drilled in my head as wrong or sinful. As weird as it was, my subconscious latched onto it as a guilt-free outlet for my pent-up pubescent sexual tension. From there, furry was an easy transition.
03. What kind of music do you like?
http://www.last.fm/user/SlyWeazal/charts?rangetype=year&subtype=artists
04. What was your favorite subject in school?
Haha, pottery. No joke.
05. What kind of games do you like the most? (doesn't have to be a video game)
I've never been able to give up Counter-Strike. L4D is a blast to LAN.
06. What kind of thing that people do on the internet annoys you the most?
The most? The ABSOLUTE most? That mother-fucking caramelldansen. It pretty much makes me want to burn down the entire world and destroy every living soul.
07. If any, what kind of clique where you in in high school, and if not, what kind of people did you hang out with?
80% nerd, 20% cool outsider
08. Do you have any pets? What are they like?
Fuck :( No...This makes me sad to think about. If I did they would be:
http://i.imgur.com/6bX2F.jpg or http://i.imgur.com/Y0cJc.jpg
09. What, if any kinds of alcohol do you like to drink? If not, what do you drink?
Belgium beers! Best in the world. Tiki drinks and fancy-schmancy mixology!
Just got Clase Azul Reposado as a nice Birthday gift. Smoothest liquor I've EVER tasted. It's actually kind of freaky.
10. What do you think of the internet?
Biggest/best invention since electricity. Bigger than the printing press. Completely revolutionized society, economy, and lots of other things.
11. What do you find beautiful?
Terrence Malick's films, Arvo Pärt's Spiegel im Spiegel: http://youtu.be/luME1nOhcj4 , and Todd Hido's landscape photography: http://tinyurl.com/6wxg6hj
Really just art the exudes mood and atmosphere.
QUESTIONS FOR THE TAGGED:
01. What do you miss most about your childhood?
02. If you had the money and time, where would you travel to first and why?
03. Most people aren't furry. Something special in our lives let us be ok with it. What specifically was it for you?
04. What's something you wish more people would do?
05. If you woke up as an honest-to-god anthro character, exactly how you'd want, but everything else in the world stayed the same. What do you do in the first 24 hours?
06. What is your biggest struggle?
07. If benevolent aliens came to Earth and said only you could come with them to see the wonders of the Universe, but you could never return, would you go?
08. What's the spookiest/most-unexplainable thing that's ever happened to you?
09. Favorite dessert?
10. Favorite Disney hand animated movie?
11. If you got $20 million dollars, what do you do with it and your life?

A Facebook Killer?
General | Posted 14 years agoApologies for the completely non-furry related-ed-ness, but I'd love to hear your guy's thoughts on this...
I've had this idea for a timeline-based social networking site that I honestly think could dethrone Facebook. I have no money or coding skills, so I posted a proposal to Reddit to see what kind of reaction it'd garner. To my shock, it received nearly 1,000 endorsements and over 350 comments. In fact, 15-20 strangers messaged me privately saying they'd like volunteer to help make this concept a reality.
I was completely overwhelmed and I'd be foolish not to move forward. So I wanted to throw the concept out there to you all - hear your thoughts, see if this is something you could get excited about?

Thanks for indulging my entrepreneurial spirit ;)

furry as cool
General | Posted 15 years agoA revolutionary idea I've always pushed for; that furry and an outside sense of cool can intersect. It's a narrow crossway right now, but
wattsonbarnes is doing a damn fine job of trying to record every instance on his blog for all to appreciate.
If you want a safe way to proclaim your furvity - use this! ;)
Also...any suggestions? Can you guys think of anything he's missing?

Watch Good Movies
General | Posted 15 years agoTHE KING'S SPEECH
Warm and charming, if a bit square. Incredible acting all around, funny, and entertainingly educational. Could take Best Pic and Actor.
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
Just watched high and was blown away by how beautiful, touching, and non-formulaic it was. Mega boy/dragon romance going on; "Don't step on my fire rings. Move around them. Yeah, like that. Dance for me..." Can't wait to see it sober (when home sick and all bundled up ^_^)
TRUE GRIT
Enjoyable, if forgettable. Strangely 1-dimensional. Was expecting depth and difficulty a la "No Country." After ending I was like, "Oh. Huh. That's it?"
BLACK SWAN
See this in the theater. Squirm-ishly intense. A powerhouse. Spent the last 1/3 breathlessly clenched, mouth agape.
BLUE VALENTINE
Wrenching. So believable it's transportive. You totally inhabit their life, which is simultaneously devastating and beautiful. It could win every Oscar.
RABBIT HOLE
A complete 180 from expectations! I was planning on an indulgent Oscar-grasping excuse for actors to wail and scream, but was warmly surprised by how balanced, entertaining, and good-natured it was. Don't let the content scare you off, it's definitely worthwhile.
WINTER'S BONE
Instantly engrossing. A flawless story. I've never seen the redneck/back-country culture treated so respectfully...and deadly seriously. Such beautiful cinematography, too. Not as climatic as I was expecting, but intriguing and sticks with you.
127 HOURS
Despite the high concept, immensely watchable. Realistic and emotionally charged. By the end I was feeling the same things he was (which says a lot!). Franco's my top pic for Best Actor (but Ryan Gosling & Colin Firth are extraordinarily close).
Still on the list: The Fighter, Somewhere, The Illusionist
Warm and charming, if a bit square. Incredible acting all around, funny, and entertainingly educational. Could take Best Pic and Actor.

Seriously guys...
General | Posted 15 years agoWe're a niche group. A really small, bizarre population to cater to. So many members seem to expect the proficiency and stability of an actual mainstream site. The fact furries even have FA is a blessing. I mean, if it's designed and kept up well enough to centralize the community to this degree - I think that speaks for itself.
Not saying FA couldn't be better. Constructive criticism is always good. But many folks take for granted how rare/valuable this site is.
If you leave for personal reasons, so be it. But realize, this site is largely based around animal creatures having sex. Pulling the moral high ground is...curious. I know there's exceptions. In fact, you're probably it. That's cool. But, I'm talking generalizations based on all the journals that have been popping up recently.
tl;dr Be cool, my babies...
EDIT: Thanks for the support dudes. It's refreshing to hear there are actually folks who feel the same way ^_^ Yay rationality!

Rango

bradfordfox and I just attended a test screener of RANGO:https://youtu.be/rHm5-av1UksAnd let me be the first to say this is a must see. You have no idea how much of a relief it was to have a CG animated film that's not all clean and perfect and innocent.
Honestly, I'd say it had THE best animation and character design I've seen of ANY CG film to date. Not only that, but it was cool and the characters were realistically grungy and imperfect. So much more believable and atmospherically serious.
The story is a pretty transparent hero's quest - but Gore had fun with it; at times dressing it up in metaphors as dense as Dead Man, while other times the characters straight up say, "So this is where he rides off into the sunset?"
Despite the story's familiarity, it stays remarkably fresh and interesting. Mostly because it's fucking weird. Downright surreal at times. It's also hella witty thanks to the dialog not being dumbed down for kids. The emotional climax was touching and nearly made me tear up. Some pretty striking comparisons to Chinatown can be regularly made, too...
All this only stays true as long as they don't drastically change the cut :P Here's hoping you'll get the same experience!
Saxon Shore. Wow.
General | Posted 15 years agoInstrumental rock a la Explosions in the Sky with a brilliantly contrasting piano refrain. I was not prepared for the intensity at the end. Nearly made my heart explode. Just...let it play in the background and keep doing what you're doing.

Defining Furry Moment
General | Posted 15 years agoDo you guys have any strong furry memories before you really knew what furry was? I don't mean a vague, overall interest in anthros - rather a unique experience that stands out as surprisingly more effecting than it should have been...
Back in 1993, a few days before Christmas, the whole family was decorating as it snowed outside and there was a beautiful fire roaring. It was one of those rare, perfect moments when everyone's there, relaxed, and happy.
The TV was tuned into a remarkably furry version of David Copperfield. I remember my attention being inexplicably drawn to it despite everything else that was happening. There were even distinct feelings of attraction for the main character (which I didn't understand, but felt all warm and appealing at the time). I was 11. I just turned 28 and that memory still stands out.
Maybe this clip had something to do with it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzYtTT5K9cQ#t=9m4s
It probably didn't hurt that he was pants-less like half the movie O_O
