A Question for You....
General | Posted 17 years agoSome benevolent aliens come to earth and through a lottery only you are given the option to return with them to experience the enormous wonders of the universe.
But you could never return.
Would you go?
No terms, no conditions.
There is no question of their benevolence and you can say goodbyes.
But you could never return.
Would you go?
No terms, no conditions.
There is no question of their benevolence and you can say goodbyes.
I'm gunna break down here...
General | Posted 17 years agoI'm going crazy. I feel like the atmosphere I'm in and the people I'm around are turning me into someone I don't like. I feel like I'm a different person than I was a year or 2 ago. I feel meaner, less likable...I miss nerds. Geeks who get excited over the lamest things. This damn image-obsessed city feels like it's repressing the happiness I used to have for the silliest things.
Day in and day out I spend with people who never get psyched about the same movies I do, would never waste hours playing video games, I have to drag kicking and screaming to new restaurants, and they throw off any ounce of creativity they may have in exchange for tedious social drivel. They get so settled in their complacent, mind-numbing schedules and automatically turn down new or different experiences regardless of how minuscule a commitment.
Fuck them. Fuck them. FUCK THEM!!
*breathes*
There ARE smart, creative, INTERESTING people out there. I'm just stuck in the wrong circle right now. Unfortunately, I live in what's the most ideal place I could possibly want and, in order to maintain that opportunity, I have to put up with them.
Phew, god...I needed to get that off my chest. Thanks for putting up with my ranting! Anytime anyone's up for doing something; grabbing dinner, watching a movie, going to a museum, whenever - I don't care. Even a weeknight, please let me know. I need artistic sanity.

Tim & Eric LIVE!
General | Posted 17 years agohttp://timanderic.com/live.html
I've already bought my ticket for Tuesday, May 6 at the Echo Plex in Los Angeles.
But alas, as apparently none of my friends are awesome, I'm going alone. So if you're in the area, you must join me in what'll surely one of most unforgettable nights of your life!
For the unknowning, TIM & ERIC AWESOME SHOW GREAT JOB! is a sketch show on adult swim that's ridiculously random and more often than not, mocks B-quality public access programming. Also, it's awesome.
Absolut Vodka commissioned them to make a commercial: http://youtube.com/watch?v=5p0QtJMKt1s

TMNT
General | Posted 17 years agoOh, awesome. What a perfectly rad way to spend a Saturday morning.
I betcha most kids here come from a generation where the Turtles are Gods, so there's gunna be wary skepticism seeing them reinvented.
Yes, this flick came out a year ago and yes I'm just seeing it now but it helped to have my expectations tempered by the blah reviews and absent word of mouth buzz.
Despite that, I was pretty damn impressed!
Voice acting restrained and impressive with spot on inflection for each character.
Story WAS cheesy - but suitably so. Totally a plot you'd see in a Saturday morning cartoon which provided fun kitsch.
Massive props to the music director! REAL punk song while Mikey's skateboarding, the great track when Ralph's fighting in the diner, and credible underground rap over the credits (also an homage to the quintessential 80s credits rap song)
The best part was how maturely it dealt with character conflict. They were real people/creatures with real flaws...even the bad guy wasn't some 2 dimensional villain.
All this praise does come at a cost, I don't want to over inflate expectations, but if you're a fan of the original series, this would definitely be time well spent!

Blacksad becoming a Movie
General | Posted 17 years agoto be fair I jacked this from: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/343569/ but just spreading the industry word...
Straight from the industry trades:
"Louis Leterrier will segue from helming [Universal's] "The Hulk" to direct "Blacksad," from the comicstrip about a detective who takes the form of a black cat, skedded for 2009. Budget could be as high as $90 million-$100 million."
http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117979649.html?categoryid=2523&cs=1
What on earth is a comic like that getting such a ridiculous budget when something with the fanbase of Halo can't even get made into a movie?! Fantastic news, but totally inexplicable!
Also, http://pwbeat.publishersweekly.com/...../12ficomic.jpg

That said, there IS a new protest coming up that's supposed to rival the 2/10 one. It is on 3/15. Check your area for local protests:
http://www.partyvan.info/index.php/.....2008/N_America
Get involved! You don't have to be a member, you don't have to commit to anything/much, just your presence alone is a statement.
The movement IS making a difference, it IS bringing about tangible change!
For example, an LA Times article as recent as 3/3 has the author stating how Scientology's history of legal action has kept most journalists from freely speaking about the Church. But now, that is changing. Thanks entirely to Anonymous.

Anonymous Protest in LA this Sat
General | Posted 18 years agoI was initially hesitant due to the smaller scale of this one and its last-minute-ness. Then I realized, I have never really stood up for anything in my life. And never before has something so indefensible made its home right in my backyard. No more hiding behind my computer, I will do something about it.
And I will help anyone else who wants to be involved. Let me know if you need a ride or place to crash (my apt's where the 5 meets the 134).
Greetings Anonymous,
EVENT:
CCHR 39th Annual Awards Dinner -- Anonymous Demonstration
We have already informed the police. No permits are necessary.
LOCATION:
Hyatt Century Plaza Hotel
2025 Avenue of the Stars
Los Angeles, CA 90067
WHEN:
Saturday, March 1st 5:00pm Show-Up Time (Try not to be late, but lateness is understood)
We will stay until the dinner is over. There is some concern that they may prevent attendees from leaving until we depart; we intend to stay the night. BRING WARM CLOTHES (and/or blankets if you stay late) and be prepared for a long one! If you need to depart you are welcome to do so at any time, but we fully expect to stay until they let their attendees out.
IRC Meeting for Questions, etcetra:
irc.partyvan.org #socal
THURSDAY, February 28th, 8:00pm Pacific Time
WHY:
L. Ron Hubbard educated his followers on how to deal with your enemies. He instructed them that if you can't find something in a person's past, make something up. Psychiatrists are Scientology's self declared enemies. It makes you wonder how many people have had their licenses pulled due to fabricated malpractice claims.
Elli Perkins died March 13th, 2003 at the hands of her Schizophrenic son, Jeremy. Elli was stabbed 77 times after years of trying to help her son's mental health condition using Scientology. Scientologists are often opposed to any form of psychiatric care, stating that it 'does not work'. The doctor concluded that "he was suffering from certain digestive problems, that he had certain chemical toxins in his body. And he needed to be purged of it. And he needed to be energized through vitamin therapy." Elli Perkins gave Jeremy the vitamin treatment to no avail. Jeremy was set to leave in the afternoon of March 13th. On this day, following a fight with his mother, he took a shower during which he attempted to slit his own wrists. After exiting the shower he went to the kitchen where Elli was on the phone, took a steak knife, and brutally stabbed her to death.
If he had been granted access to psychiatric treatment, perhaps Elli would still be alive. If Lisa McPherson had been granted psychiatric help, rather than being locked in a room to "ride it out" perhaps she would still be alive.
SIGN SUGGESTIONS:
"CCHR is a Scientology Front Organization"
"Lisa McPherson Was Denied Psychiatric Help"
Any signs specifically targeting the Church of Scientology
CCHR Specific signs; more cases of those who died due to lack of Psychiatric help
Please, no "honk if you hate" signs. No "honk" signs in general; that is a police request.
Our audience will not be the general public. Our audience will be almost entirely CCHR/CoS patrons. Do not expect a friendly reception, or multitudes of supporters honking at us. This one is about impact.
Do plan on wearing your Guy Fawkes mask or other coverings. Bring alternative covering in case the masks become an issue. Once again, many of us will be wearing suits; we're also in a somewhat glitzy area so looking nice won't hurt (just BE WARM. Ladies, short dresses, as much as I love them, you'll freeze to death).
And I will help anyone else who wants to be involved. Let me know if you need a ride or place to crash (my apt's where the 5 meets the 134).

Polar Bear Trapper Keeper
General | Posted 18 years agoI can't believe I'm doing this because it means I've FAILED at the internets.
Ok, how many of you kids remember admiring your classmate's trapper keepers and glossy, print binders/folders?
Do any of you remember one by Coca-Cola of a shirtless anthro polar bear who was sagging his pants? I'm pretty sure he even had a happy trail and amount that single folder as the sole reason why I turned furry ;)
I'm desperate to find an image of it somewhere, but after scouring google for HOURS - I couldn't find anything.
Please help me out! Some of you must surely be more 1337 at the intertubes than I!
EDIT: With much glorious praise to http://www.furaffinity.net/user/ravenzer0/ he has found exactly what I was looking for!

Despite the fact they're crappy resolution, I'm pretty damn confident that bear has a happy trail! Scandalous and all that hullabaloo!

So many sultry furry videos
General | Posted 18 years agoAfter Orangina, I was surprised to come across another so quickly.
Though to be fair this came out years ago and everyone's probably already seen it. But I never caught it so maybe there's others out there like me?
It's Counting Crow's "Accidentally in Love" which mostly features the lead singer interpreted as a bunny d'aww! but ends with some surprisingly scandalous implications.

You Guys Missed Out!
General | Posted 18 years agoWell la dee da! While you were all HOME with your FAMILY for Thanksgiving I was off by myself, alone at a concert. I think we all know who had the better time (why don't my parents love me?)
Hah! Well, that was a sad joke....So despite already having an animal-y name, the Band of Horses concert actually featured fursuits as well!

New Photos
General | Posted 18 years agoAfter meeting up with a delightful gang of furry artists I got overwhelmed by their prodigious art and felt oddly inadequate not having any of my own :P
I shivered at the idea of, "oh my god am I just a fanboy?" But I don't think so. I just focus my creativity through other artistic mediums that don't always lend to ridiculous amounts of furry content.
Living and working in Hollywood I often encounter weird, beautiful, and oh-my-god-did-you-just-see-that-i-wish-i-had-a-camera-with-me-right-now! moments. So that's generally the theme of my photos. A little commentary on life in this desolate sprawl of asphalt arteries and exhaust filled oxygen.

General | Posted 18 years agoI've been keeping this bottled up for so long now...but is it just me are are those avatars that dance back and forth with their arms up annoying as fuck? That's right, "fuck."
They're not going away and I'm exhausted exercising all my restraint to keep from delving into violent fantasies about the creators who apparently couldn't comprehend the line between cute and sickening. Where's the emoticon for "holy-shit-this-awful-trend-should-have-died-before-it-even-existed-and-every-time-one gets-used-a-child-chokes-to-death-on-a-puppy-that's-right-a-puppy."
Huh...
I never thought I'D be the one ranting about some inconsequential element of the furry fandom.
WHAT HAS THE INTERNET DONE??!!!!!!

I just know there's a furry kid sitting alone at his computer, ogling a check, and thinking "maybe I CAN make it as a furry artist!"
Points for anyone who can find out who did this! No, in fact I will pay you. This isn't some empty offer. I will mail $20 to the first person who successfully finds a working contact of the person who animated that fox.

A Collection of Furry Music Videos
General | Posted 18 years agoWho knows when these youtube links will expire, but I figured I'd post them anyway and see if anyone else has seen them or can recommend any others.
ANTONY AND THE JOHNSONS (a gay artist a la Rufus Wainwright with an incredibly unique and enchanting voice. The videos are low-fi flash, almost something an amateurish furry fanboy would do, which I find so fascinating that this well known artist would choose to use them)
"The Lake" and "Mysteries of Love" http://www.antonyandthejohnsons.com.....s/samples.html
ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI (the most FUN summer, bubble-gum pop from Australia. Animated by the infamous Paul Robertson. There's just 1 furry character)
"Do the Whirlwind" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MJYsvg7zMM
BOMBAY ROCKERS (Damn catchy Bollywood influenced dance music. Only know this one song, but it's pretty humorous when the furry characters kick in half way through)
"Rock tha Party" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aOWCMHHYbw
MOBY (probably the most quintessential furry video in that it combines fursuiters and sex :P Ya, I know you probably have all seen it already)
"Beautiful" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hv11q8Ss1V8
JOEY (some unknown band, but my absolute favorite furry music vid! Beautifully animated in a storybook style, plus furries in suits are SO cooool! The lyrics are irrelevant and there is no story behind it - the creator said it was supposed to be like flipping through pages of a fairy-tale book. Kinda dumb in my opinion, but god does it look good!)
"Boy" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITVME3VcU04
JUNIOR SENIOR (dunno if an 8-bit squirrel counts, but the video's too crazy with all it's awesome retro style and constant innuendo)
"Move Your Feet" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKcDa0Kp2K8
KID606 (Intense flash vid for the notable techno artist with a super simple furry character)
"The Illness" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frFtCDpWl5g
THE NOTWIST (trippy stop motion stuffed animals)
"Pick Up the Phone" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj_piRy2GZc
ROYKSOPP (Almost ambient, real chill electronica with an animated fursuit)
"Poor Leno" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI9_h7OSVZg
SQUIRREL NUT ZIPPERS (Absolutely brilliant and original modern swing band with a stunningly retro animated video that's got some prominent furry characters)
"The Ghost of Stephen Foster" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYbOGl5YbW0
TV ON THE RADIO (One of the best new bands to come out. The last title card in the vid is priceless)
"Wolf Like Me" http://youtube.com/watch?v=GUB1xSAAADk
BAT FOR LASHES (thanks to TCW for posting this one. Great song with impressive coordination and very well shot)
"What's a Girl to Do" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1wnOUH2jk8
ANTONY AND THE JOHNSONS (a gay artist a la Rufus Wainwright with an incredibly unique and enchanting voice. The videos are low-fi flash, almost something an amateurish furry fanboy would do, which I find so fascinating that this well known artist would choose to use them)
"The Lake" and "Mysteries of Love" http://www.antonyandthejohnsons.com.....s/samples.html
ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI (the most FUN summer, bubble-gum pop from Australia. Animated by the infamous Paul Robertson. There's just 1 furry character)
"Do the Whirlwind" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MJYsvg7zMM
BOMBAY ROCKERS (Damn catchy Bollywood influenced dance music. Only know this one song, but it's pretty humorous when the furry characters kick in half way through)
"Rock tha Party" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aOWCMHHYbw
MOBY (probably the most quintessential furry video in that it combines fursuiters and sex :P Ya, I know you probably have all seen it already)
"Beautiful" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hv11q8Ss1V8
JOEY (some unknown band, but my absolute favorite furry music vid! Beautifully animated in a storybook style, plus furries in suits are SO cooool! The lyrics are irrelevant and there is no story behind it - the creator said it was supposed to be like flipping through pages of a fairy-tale book. Kinda dumb in my opinion, but god does it look good!)
"Boy" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITVME3VcU04
JUNIOR SENIOR (dunno if an 8-bit squirrel counts, but the video's too crazy with all it's awesome retro style and constant innuendo)
"Move Your Feet" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKcDa0Kp2K8
KID606 (Intense flash vid for the notable techno artist with a super simple furry character)
"The Illness" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frFtCDpWl5g
THE NOTWIST (trippy stop motion stuffed animals)
"Pick Up the Phone" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj_piRy2GZc
ROYKSOPP (Almost ambient, real chill electronica with an animated fursuit)
"Poor Leno" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI9_h7OSVZg
SQUIRREL NUT ZIPPERS (Absolutely brilliant and original modern swing band with a stunningly retro animated video that's got some prominent furry characters)
"The Ghost of Stephen Foster" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYbOGl5YbW0

Zoo
General | Posted 18 years agoA documentary was shown at 07 Sundance called "Zoo." While it is about a man who has sex with his horse and dies after one of the interactions, it goes deeper into the cultural and psychological reasons behind the people. It's supposedly handled quite seriously and sympathetically.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0874423/
It's screening in LA the week of May 4 and I'm definitely going because I'm fascinated by the whole mental evolution and humans varying relationships with animals - and yes, that would include me and all you crazy cats.
I'd love to not go alone, so...come to LA now, ya hear?

If cuteness was pain, you'd be dead right now.
