Maybe I should.
Posted 18 years agoFirst, I want to thank everyone who stuck with me and gave me support during that rough spell I was having. You guys are the best! ^^
I haven't been drawing much lately, but what I have been doing is, well, cooking. And when I'm not cooking, I'm coming up with recipes in my head and having people test them out, with general success.
So I was thinking...if i put my recipes up on FA, would people try them out? Just a thought. Maybe if enough people are interested I'll give it a shot.

Boy it's cold.
Posted 18 years agoYou know....
Doing stuff has been a lot of fun, but lately more and more I've been feeling just shut out of everything going on in the circle of people I know.
Call it being lonely, call it whatever.
I haven't really drawn anything in a long time. For a while I was putting my creative energy into cooking and sharing my cooking with people I know but that's suddenly lost a lot of its appeal too. For a while, I actually thought I hit rock bottom but boy, did i prove myself wrong on that one.
I'm feeling alone, upset, and just empty. If you've got friends, people who listen and pay attention to you, make time for you and whatnot, be thankful for it. Not everyone is that lucky.
Here on FA and in my own real life, I'm surrounded by people and yet I can't help but feel lonely.

Oh, is this thing still on?
Posted 18 years agoHa-ha. I almost forgot I had this journal thing up. XD
No, no, kidding. I've been trolling around on FA keeping tabs on watches and stuff, checking out what everyone else is producing (and also thinking about what I *haven't* been producing.) Also, I recall that in my last journal I put up some stuff that never really got resolved. So, without further delay, here is the Wedgekun update:
1) Yes, after a long and difficult struggle I actually did make Coffee Master by passing the exam with flying colors and getting a 97% on my presentation (I chose Colombia Nariño as my coffee. And incidentally, it's a pain in the ass to get firefox to recognize that ñ thing when I'm typing it in. This must annoy spanish speakers to no end.)
2) Other things have happened in my life. I got out of a relationship that was going down the road to unhealthiness (meaning it was the "I'll love you more when you change" type of relationship that only works if said change happens) and got into a relationship with a very loving and very caring guy who thinks about other people before he thinks about himself. It's nice to have someone who's first instinct is to want to make you feel happy. ^__^ We're making plans to move in together in the future and we may even have a roommate.
3) Personal Goals for myself:
- Draw. Draw. DRAW DRAW DRAW PICK UP A PENCIL DAMMIT!!!
- Start going to the gym. By the end of October I wanna be on a workout routine. Good thing Starbucks employees get a discount at 24 hour fitness.
- Get a second job. (Hours at Starbucks are crappy.)
OK. Feel free to ask me stuff or whatever... oh and a big shout out to everyone who didn't forget I was here XD

Going around in circles.
Posted 18 years agoWow, it's been a LOOOONG year out here living out of my parent's house but I can't say that I've really been living on my own. Sometimes it feels that way, but it's good to have my roomie here sometimes.
What? Did I leave out some details? Oh, well, let me back up.
Back when we *thought* we were going to renew our lease, we thought about it and decided "not a chance in hell are we going to keep living here when it costs so much and doesn't have decent plumbing." So, we decided that we would go our separate ways: one of my roommates is trying to find a place rooming with someone else, and the other hopped a flight over to Ohio to see if he could save up enough money to do a move properly. Likewise, that's my plan as well, and if everything goes according to plan (cross fingers!) I should be back out of my parents' place by the end of May 2008. That's pretty much the best time to be looking for places to rent, and if I save up a consistent amount of money every month I shouldn't have any problems doing it this time. Yes, it's all about learning from your mistakes and fixing your own life. Seems to be the common theme to everything I do.
In other news, while all this chaos is going on, I am about to reach the goal I've been striving for with my job for MONTHS: taking my Coffee Master exam. It's coming up this thursday, and I'm realllllly nervous and reallllly psyched about it. If I pass, it means that I will be the very first coffee master in my store XD Talk about pressure. But I guess Im the guy who's giving myself the most pressure because everyone I've talked to about it says I'm going to do fine, no problems. I just hope so...I'm hoping this is just a healthy amount of self-auditing I'm doing, because it's stressing me the hell out. I have to alternate my time between cleaning the apartment, going to work, and writing and cramming for this damn exam, and quite honestly, I'll be glad when this is all over. If I pass, then you know i'm gonna celebrate XD
Until then, though I gotta focus. Focus. FOCUSFOCUSFOCUS. (slaps self) OW....ok. Anyways, wish me luck.

Posted 18 years agoOk.....all my projects are more or less on hold right now. I'm just in the process of fixing my life, meaning I'm grinding away, doing a bazillion things at once and making certain hard decisions.
if anything, what i need right now is a hug and maybe a massage (owies! stuff hurts)

Requests!
Posted 18 years agoAll right folks, here's the scoop!
1) I converted my LJ into being my official art blog. I'm going to keep parallel posting here as well, but you're probably going to see my new art over on my LJ first. The address is:
http://wedge-debusen.livejournal.com/
2) I'm taking requests! Seriously, I need to start drawing every day. So I'm treating and my Request post over on my LJ as my request threads! Request away!

Something about the fat/muscle guy fandom...
Posted 18 years agoOK folks, I'm putting my flame shields up. I don't know how you guys feel about this, but it's something I've gotta get off my chest. Feel free to set your comments to stun or whatever, but just hear me out.
It's about the fandom.
I go on sites like the /bara/ board on anonib, and I talk to folks who go and "collect" porn, and more and more I'm seeing a disturbing trend. "OH that's so cute, I want (insert comic here) translated" or "Can anyone post scans of this" or "OMG all the art sites are shutting down / not posting any porn anymore..." is all I'm hearing from people seeking j-porn of the fat guy persuasion, and quite frankly I'm tired of it.
You wanna know WHY all the damn porn manga sites are shutting down? Why you're not seeing any *new* porn being uploaded, or why you can't get any new scans? I'll tell you why. People like the ones who troll the bara board keep scanning and posting shit that they don't have permission from the artists to post, that's why.
Japanese artists are getting fed up with people who don't even make an attempt to learn the language stealing their art and posting it on forums when 99% of the j-sites out there explicitly say (albeit in Japanese) that they don't want people taking their shit and posting it anywhere without their permission.
And when it's not stuff that's stolen from websites, it's stuff that's scanned out of books and then reposted. Just tonight I saw some forum poster begging for someone to upload a full scan of the title comic for Jiraiya's new comic collection, and I posted a reply stating that they should just go out and buy the damn book from Rainbow Shoppers. "OMG, what....is this book rare or something?? why isn't anyone posting scans of it?" Yeah. You know what, I own the damn book. In fact, I own both of Jiraiya's damn books and the Kumanchu t-shirt (which was designed by the man himself.) But I sure as hell am not gonna scan it for you. You like the artist, you buy the damn book and support them. It's NOT HARD TO GET. Better yet, how about you try to make some attempt to learn Japanese, go to the website, buy the damn book, and maybe, oh, I don't know, READ IT. Maybe then you'll see that Jiraiya's comics aren't just pretty pictures to fap to, that maybe - just maybe - they have decent PLOTS.
Honestly, this is the reason why Japanese debu/bara fans have such a low opinion of their English-speaking counterparts. We, in general, are lazy when it comes to actually learning Japanese. The very existence of the scene was pretty much the exact reason for me majoring in the language in the first place. So don't go telling me you can't do it.
And for those of you that say "oh, I don't have any interest in Japanese culture/language, I just wanna get pretty pictures to jerk off to, and I want them free and fast" ...well then you're part of the problem. People who say that, and the lackeys that enable them by scanning what manga/doujin they do manage to get are the exact reason why Japanese artists have given up on maintaining their own websites, put passwords up to block content, hold Japanese-only doujinshi conventions, keep non-Japanese from buying their doujin by refusing to ship to non-Japanese addresses, post in areas that non-Japanese speakers can't normally get to (news flash! They're still doing art! Just not where you guys can get to it) ...etc. So yeah. Thanks a lot. You brought it upon yourselves, so deal with it.
And no, don't beg me to translate stuff for you. Don't ask me to scan Jiraiya's books for you, don't ask me to post any new art to a forum if it's not my own. It's not my place to post it wherever. Trading I don't have so much of a problem with but I only share my collection with people I know and trust, and I make sure that whoever is getting it knows 1) who did it and 2) that I don't want them to post it up or upload it online.
So there's the rub. One argument people are going to have is "What about spreading awareness about artists? We give them exposure by posting their stuff online." That may be true, but if an artist explicitly says that they don't want to have their stuff out there on other sites without their permission, then you sure as hell had better not post it on other sites without their permission. You want to post it.....get their permission. Duh. What, that's going to involve learning Japanese and actually asking them for permission like a decent human being? OMG! No, really. Do it. You want to post it so badly, do the right thing and ask. At least make an effort, even if it's only in English. Or find a friend who knows Japanese and ask them to write the email. Something.

Reply to this with your friend codes and we can hook up using the Nintendo WiFi thingy. Cool, no?

Ideas, HO!!
Posted 18 years agoAll right. So, I've finally gotten myself to actually take my tablet/sketchbooks out once in a while and do pics. I have a few projects I started but haven't finished either because I'm not in the right mood or I don't like the concept, etc.
SO~! If any of you have any ideas for stuff you'd like to see me draw, here's the place to post them. Although, keep in mind that i'm not *great* with furries and basically....I draw fat/muscley dudes. Yeah. That's about all the explanation I'm gonna need for that. So...what *do* you want to see? XD

Movin' On Up(Out?)
Posted 19 years agoWell, for those of you who don't know yet, this may come as a bit of a surprise. Essentially, I'm being kicked outta my house. In fact I *was* very much kicked out of the house at one point a few days ago, had to turn in my house key, cell phone, pack my bags, and walk down to the bus stop but my stepdad waited until I was like 50 yards away from the damn bus stop to come pull up and take me back home and lecture me. He said that I essentially have until September 1st to move out. How nice of him. </rolleyes>
In any case, I do indeed have a job (I was recently hired by the Starbucks in the DFS over in Waikiki) but every little bit helps. My goal is to make $1500 by the end of this month to pay for rent, the security deposit, utility activation, and furnishings (having a dryer would be nice. XD)
SO! To any of you out there who might by chance have a liking for my art, now is the time to comission me! Of course, if you want to donate to the "save the fat guy" foundation that would be great too. But I'm thinking that you want to see more art from me, right? XD Anyways, I've changed my policy to make things simpler. Check it out below:
***************
Current Commissions:
None
~ Current Commission Info ~ as of August 2nd 2006
Thanks to one of my buddies sponsoring me with a WACOM Intuos3 tablet a month or so ago, I can now produce totally digital artwork without the need for penciling and messing with paper.
The final product will be an image in your choice of format (jpeg is most common, but to make it easier for people to make their own prints I can produce PDFs as well.)
If you want me to make a print of it and send it to you, there's a special shipping section below, but printing it yourself at like a Kinko's or something will save you the shipping. ^_^
Black+White Pricing (per page):
Single Character, no BG: $12
Background Lineart: $6
Each Additional Character: $6 (Non-interactive with other characters.)
Each Additional Interacting Character: $12.
What do I mean by interacting? Well..... let's say Fluffy makes a comission request for 2 characters in one piece staring each other down. That would be $12 + $6 since they aren't really doing much to each other in the way of wrestling, fighting, striking, *other forms of character-on-character contact,* etc. However, if Fluffy's two characters DO any of those things, then they're interacting.
Color Pricing (per page):
This is easy. Just take whatever it would cost to make the black+white version and multiply it by 1.5 .
Why that number? Well, considering the amount of time it takes me to do a piece, (4 hours to do a decent lineart with the tablet, 2 hours to do a decent color job) it's basically proportional to the amount of time i have to spend on it. Simple as that.
Note on resolution: I usually work with a VERY HIGH resolution in Painter, so getting a decent sized image without pixelation on a regular sheet of paper isn't really a problem.
Also, for really complex compositions, there may be an additional fee involved, depending on how demanding the request is.
Other Options:
Progression pics: 10% of the image price as calculated above.
What are "progression pics?" Well, they're useful in that I essentially save incomplete versions of the piece I'm making for you at every stage of the project's creation. You get to see the planning phases, the pencil addition and subtraction cycles I go through, as well as seeing how I refined your image prior to finishing.
Useful as a learning aid.
Shipping: I use USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate envelopes to ship. They currently cost $4.05 with the US post office and can be shipped anywhere in the US.
For security, I utilize Certified Mail service, which costs $2.40 in addition to the postage. The print itself will be on high-quality photo paper, which costs me about $3 to make. So total shipping for 1 sheet would be $9.45. (Multiple prints can be combined into one envelope to save on shipping.)
How to order:
1) E-mail me (wedgekun@hotmail.com) with your request.
2) I will then reply to your e-mail with a quote stating what elements are required and how much they would cost.
3) You e-mail me back (hopefully accepting the quoted price!)
4) Before starting each commission, half of the quoted amount will be due up front. (I've heard a lot of horror stories about how people have done comissions and got ripped off, so this is just to demonstrate intent to purchase.) I only accept payment via PayPal.....fast, easy, and INSTANT! No waiting!
5) Upon completion the second half of the quoted amount plus any shipping+handling charges will be due. Upon receipt of the full payment, the finished art will be sent to you via e-mail AND via Priority Mail if you elect to get a print shipped to you.
Got all that? Good.
Sometime in the future when i figure out this thing with Manga Studio EX I might begin doing comic commissions. Keep your eyes peeled to this space for further news!
Oh yes, one more thing: I'd like to give a VERY VERY special thank you to Mitsuro, FatYogi, blk-mage-kitty, codywulfy, nettiger, darmani, yack/xenyou, and everyone else for their support!! I wouldn't be able to do this without you guys, you are a lifesaver! (MEGA HUGS TO ALL)
In any case, I do indeed have a job (I was recently hired by the Starbucks in the DFS over in Waikiki) but every little bit helps.

XD)
