Conbadges!
Posted 15 years agoThe July round for Conbadges is open!
For anyone that doesn't know, Conbadges is an exchange community where people gather together, sign up on a post, and are assigned to other people who signed up to draw a conbadge (click if you don't know what a conbadge is) for them. The rounds are either based on skill or are randomized, we switch between the two to try to keep things fresh.
I do ask you to read the community rules before signing up, and please understand you can't sign up with only a furaffinity gallery or furaffinity only reference links. You CAN use furaffinity, but it has to be alongside another gallery/set of links from a different host. This rule was made after FA went down for over a month a while back, and because most people relied solely on FA for their references, the round was effectively paralyzed. We don't want that to happen again. You can sign up to Photobucket if need be. Deviantart or other stable galleries will also do.
Also to note, you aren't required to mail badges. It's always nice to receive badges in the mail, but you can make digital badges if you wish. You aren't required by the rules to send them out, so don't let that limit you!
It's lots of fun! Come try it!

Phew!
Posted 15 years agoWell, commissions are finished.
Before you ask, sketches are different and will be used at warm up sketches at the beginning of drawing for Sacred Grounds. You'll be able to tell when I'm working on SG, because I'll post a sketch image!
I'm hoping to do it whenever I get home from work. Take maybe an hour to clean my room, then sit down and draw till it's noodle time, then sit back down and draw some more.
If I were to set up a stream, would you guy's be interested in watching it, maybe, one day a week?
What day works best for everyone? Probably around 7 or 8 Pacific time.

I'm not Dead!
Posted 15 years agoThis weekend was awesome.
Dani came over and helped me finish up my room. So, that's off the list. So excited about that and really appreciate her help with my room. It's still a touch of a disaster, and until I can get Cro to help me build I'm kind of in a stall. I also need enough money to buy myself a decent sized flat screen TV to hang on the wall. Fortunately, the ground is concrete, so my fishtank will fit nicely.
I've been really keen on getting cracking on my commissions again. I'm not going to take any more commissions for a long, long time! I'm excited about Sacred Grounds still, and, after reading Rukis' comic on FA (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3704554 Adult themes, but has been work safe so far) I really want to throw myself back at SG again. I want to come home, take my shower, warm my ramen noodles, and toss myself at Sacred Grounds. Ideally, I'll do this every day.
That's the plan! Eventually, I want to get a haircut, but I'll do that after commissions are finished. My desk is nice lovely and clean, so I'll be able to absolutely finish those in the next few days. Don't worry, I've got several different types of noodles!
So, tonight, I'll finish the inks on Fuzzypaw's commission, then finish the flat colors on Zanthel's commission, and then finish Kitsune's within the week.
Once those are finished, the free sketches will be used as my warmups for Sacred Grounds. I'll do two of them a day, and should be finished in about four months. Not half bad if I does say so meself!
Alright, back to my traditional job!
If I'm not around the IMs, you guys know where to find me!

Still around, still working!
Posted 15 years agoJust checking in with everyone to let y'all know I Didn't die of food poisoning!
I know, that's my last journal entry! Totally makes it look like I keeled over and died.
I'm back on my feet and drawing, actually. Been working a lot on private commissions (learning how to draw feets for one of them!) and working a lot with color.
I'm going to have
kayla-la here to help me learn more about how to color using Photoshop, and I might have to pick the brains of a few more of my friends.
Sacred grounds (http://www.sacredgroundscomic.com) is still in need of someone with more ComicPress knowledge than I have.
Free sketches will be used as WarmUp sketches, as soon as I can settle into a routine for working on my webcomic via uStream.
Until next time! Enjoy!

I've got Gastroenteritis/"Stomach Flu" according to my doctor's diagnosis. I think that includes Food Poisoning... I'm almost sure I got food poisoning from IHOP.
Thing's will be a little slow while I get better, and I still need to re-arrange my living space. I'm going to stop eating out...and every time I think about it, I'm going to think about how I've been feeling these past FOUR DAYS Yes, FOUR days! From Sunday evening to Wed morning (Sofar!)
So, expect more art when I finally get over this, and get my room arranged.

Posted 16 years agoFC meme...C'mon, all the popular kids are doing it!
Posted 16 years agoWhere are you staying?
At my house, in my bed.
Who will you be with?
This varies from time to time.
Do you do trades?
Youbetcha! Come get a free head sketch! No, I don't have a table ;_; Sorry!
What suits will you have?
Kyuuketsuki - My bat
What is your gender?
Biologically? Well, that's an interesting question (No, it's not, just say "Transgender - FtM")
How old are you?
29, I look younger.
Can I touch you?
Please don't. It's uncomfortable and sometimes painful for me to be touched. A lot of people are warmer and more humid than I am, and I get really sensitive to that. Sorry.
Can I talk to you?
Of course! If I seem distracted or tired I apologize, I have busy brain, and conventions really bring it out in me.
Can I buy you lots of drinks?
This is a bad question to ask a vampire... But I also take Coke with Grenadine in it! I don't take open drinks from strangers, however.
Can I give you lots of money?
Unfortunately no, I'm not at the con to make money, and they frown on people trying to make money without a license. You can toss loads of money at me at CaliFur though!
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Refer to "Can I touch you"
How tall are you?
5'2''
You look pissed off out of suit can I come up to you?
If I look pissed off...why would you want to?
Are you nice?
I like to think so. I've been told otherwise though...
Are you cliquey?
No, I think I'm the antithisis of this, as I like to run around.
Can I stalk you?
From a distance? I don't care.
How long are you going?
The whole con.
Do you have an artist table?
Unfortunately, no. Catch me at Califur though!
Do you like parties?
I'm not really a partier. I tend to stay quietly in the lobby, doodle, chat, things like that. If your party is the doodle or chat type party, that's fine then, I'll join up.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Attempt to make eye contact. I'll do so back and then give you my attention when things are finished. Don't say my name over and over again, I will purposefully ignore you. I think that's part of where I get the 'not nice' name from...

Enjoy the tour, I'm gettin' back to work!
I"ve been OUTRAGEOUSLY busy!
Posted 16 years agoI've not even worked on art! But I have been working on other things. I've got a lot of stuff waiting in the wings, including reworking Sacred Grounds entirely. Apologies to those who were in it, but I'm going to be working on selling it, on its website (Yes, it'll still be a free webcomic, however, it will also come in dead tree format!) and at conventions, and your IP isn't something I'm going to be using, unless you really want to be in the comic, the we can have a chat about it later. (Personally, I find it flattering to be in a comic...)
So, I'm starting all over again on that, with my own characters.
The only question? Full color, or black and white? Hee! I'm thinking full color, it just looks sexier.
Now, it's research time. I need to see how backgrounds are done in other people's books, so that I can do a nice small press background. And learn how to use Manga Studio, as well as Painter, then practice my characters until I get a consistency down.
My goal? 100 pages for publish. I'll also commission someone to do the cover, because, why not? If I can do 100 pages of SG, why couldn't I get someone awesome to do the cover? Maybe...I should set aside $20 each time I actually finish an image, so I can have enough to commission someone when I get to 100 images. That way, I'll also put $20 worth of work into each page! I may also put in $5 for every sketch I finish, as I've got quite a few of those to finish. I may be able to afford a pro comic artist to do a cover for me if I do these!
I've also got a book I want to write. Non-fiction. I need to do a lot more research for that, too though!
My new year is :
1.) Redo Sacred Grounds all of the way. From the bottom up. The website looks nice, but it's not printable yet.
2.) Convention work
3.) Japanese
4.) Etsy store (Knitting)
5.) Book
That's it. The thing is, I'm going to throw all of my OCD into it, and just do that. Not much else. I don't really have much in the way of local folk to hang out with, I want to leave work at work, and not spend too much time there like I have been, but instead focus my free time to these things that I want to do, that I want to become.
First thing's first, re-do a few characters. Get a buffer, and start re-uploading SG with improved artwork and story.
Apologies to those very few who talk to me via AIM, and whatnot. I won't really be there much anymore, even at work. I don't know if I'll even have time for much in the land of FA either. As much as I enjoy updating and reading it!
I wish all of you well, and hope everything works out well!
You all know where you can find me if you need me for anything!
Happy 2010, everyone! Make it something amazing, each and every one of you!!

Seventeen DAYS ago?
Posted 16 years agoWas the last time I gave you lovely folks an update? ::Gasp!:: That's awful!
Anyway, still working on settling into the new place. I've rearranged my room twice, but I've found one that works for me, and now I'm getting the little things all put tigether. I never realized how much crap I own. I know I keep saying that, but... ARGH!
But, I love this new place sofar. It's comfortable. I'm hoping that the occassional nightmares that I've been having stop. O.o
I've almost got my desk put together so that I can use it to work on sketches. I'm hoping that this will happen this weekend. I'd love to get back into my sketches! I love doing artwork, and it's been frustrating these past few weeks because I've not been able to draw at all!
Driving me up the wall!!
Anyway, I thought I'd let you guys know I'm not dead, nor have I forgotten. I've just been stupidly busy!

Posted 16 years agoLemme knock that GIANT meme off my front page.
Let's give an update!
Moving is complete, now it's the unpacking part of the project that will forever be fun. I've got my desk set up, my entertainment center, and some of my bookshelves. I've gotta finish with laundry and the like, get all of it where it belongs in the closet, then grab some bed risers for my table so that I can put my mini-fridge under it...vacuum and...call it a day!
I've still got a lot of art to put up. (Art? ME? On my walls? Of course! Do I hang my own art up on my walls? Of course! I have character sheets for Sacred Grounds up on the walls, as well as my own personal character sheet (I'm such a furry!)
I should be able to settle back into the drawing part of my life here soon. Probably after the New Year (Not the secular new year!)
For now though, I'm at work, with my fursuit (no, I'm not wearing it, if I was I wouldn't be able to type this!) for the Halloween party later. When I get home I'm looking forward to working on my room, doing some pumpkin carving, and basically enjoying the night!
Now, if my ear would stop hurting, I could have a great day!

Furry Meem
Posted 16 years ago*Are you a furry?
Oooh yeah.
*If you have a Spouse/SO - Is he/she a furry too?
Yepper. Well, one of them will adamantly deny she's furry, however, I still consider her a furry by my definition.
*How long have you been in the community?
Since about 1996. Yeah, Looong time!
*How did you find furry?
I got Furry Pirates! The RPG from Tomorrow is Yesterday. From there, I found J. Willard's art. It all went downhill from there! ::laughs::
*What's your reason for furry (what interested you to get into the community)?
The art, mainly. I LOVE the art. And the RolePlay!
*What's Furry to you?
Crowe basalt summed it up best: "a more than passing interest in anthropomorphic animals."
*If someone found out you're a furry and asked you about it how would you respond?*
A lot of people know I'm a furry. I've got a furry name tag here at work, use my Furry name, let them know I'm going to a furry convention, and they've seen my furry art of my furry characters. If someone new asks, I tell them what I do, what I enjoy, and leave out the creepier aspects of the fandom. Buh!
*What are your favorite aspects of our community?*
The people. My mom said "Wow, these fuzzy people are REALLY nice!" I ADORE my friends I've made in the fandom. While there was a lot of Drama, those who have stuck by me have REALLY proven what they're made of, and I will happily stand beside them when/if they go through their own personal hells.
*Do you use any furry terms? (i.e. yiff, paws, murr?)*
It's funny. My mom has ALWAYS used the word 'paws' to reference human hands. "Wash your paws!" was a common sound in my house. I also use "murr" and "Fursona"
*What do you wish furry was NOT associated with?*
The sex. It gets old that everyone thinks I'm porking other people in my fursuit. I'm not, that would be gross (The sweating would be AWFUL!
*How strongly do you feel about someone bashing the community as a whole?*
I will happily stand up for my fandom, but I don't go out of my way to change people's perception of things.
*How strongly do you feel about anyone bashing you yourself for your interest based on the media's aspect of what furry is?*
Generally people who know me will ask me. If they don't, I'll just correct them with a smile...
and a tailwag
*We all know furries have a lot of sexual aspects in this fandom, What's your opinion on it?*
I think this is more of a human nature thing than a furry thing. You'll see it in just about ANY fandom.
Personal
*What is/are your fursona(s)?
Westly Wolf - Bat Winged Wolf Hyena
Kyuuketsuki Bat - Vampire bat
Star Q. Raven - Raven
Krys Hystrix - Porcupine
Westly E. Roanoke - Vampire (Humanoid)
*Do you have any fetishes that pertain to the fandom?*
I don't think so...
*If you could magically morph into your fursona would you?*
If I could choose between them and flip back and forth? Hellz yeah.
*Do you believe you have a spirit animal?
I don't believe I do. I know I do.
*What other fanbases/groups are you a part of?
Mostly anime or Vampire based ones. Yaoi.
*Anthro/Feral, Therian or Kemonomimi (Not a furry, just a human with animal ears and a tail)?
Yes.
*Are you a fursuiter? If yes, how many do you own? If No, do you ever plan on being a suiter?
Currently own one (Kyuuketsuki) and am in the process of making another one.
*How many of your friends are furry?
Most of them.
*How many pets do you own, if any?
I personally have a cat, a dog, and tons of fish.
*Aside from furry what other interests do you have?
Art, computers, Anime/Manga, comic books, WitchCraft
*Are you confident enough in yourself to say that you're a fur, no matter what the media says?
Yep!
Meetups
*Do you attend any cons? If no, would you attend any cons? If yes, which cons have you been to?
AC, MFF, FC, CaliFur, FWA...I think that's all!
*Do you go to local meetups(bowling, public outings...etc)?
Not usually. I'm rather reserved/shy/quiet. Though I'd love to in my suit!
*Have you ever attended a furry party? If no, would you attend one?
Yes.
Online
*Have you ever met up with a fur you talked to online?
Many.
*What furry websites do you attend?
FA, ArtSpots, and Furocity
*What non furry websites do you frequent?
Livejournal, PlayFirst, several webcomics.
*Has the fandom done anything for you that you're thankful for? Has it taught you anything or brought you anything you treasure greatly?
Oooh man, yeah! Friends, friends and friends! I've learned a TON from these folks! It's encouraged me and my art, it's given me something to feel a part of, it's given me my fursuit. I've made money, lost money, traveled to exotic places, all because I'm a furry!

So, I've wanted to do this for a while...
Posted 16 years agoI know, I know. A lot of people want to be a comic book artist.
But, I've always wanted to draw for Genus.
Genus, for those of you who don't know, is a furry erotica comic published by Radio Comics. Ever since I worked in a comic book store, I wanted to draw for them.
I have the tools, I have the ability (I remember my skill level was around where some of the other artists who worked on that book were, at times. Naturally, my art's less refined than some, but it was DEFINITELY better than others!)
I checked Radio comic's submission site, and...they have ZERO information on how to go about submitting for their published anthologies.
Anyone have any suggestions? Or, any information on where to go from here? I'd love to do it, and, I think I'd be able to if the comic is what I think it is still. (My mom's going to be sending them my way, since I have a TON of them back in Illinois!)

Moving!
Posted 16 years agoSo, while I'm moving, everything's put on hold. I ave one time sensitive commission that I will need to work on. But, apart from that, I'm going to be MIA.
The good thing is that we got a new place to live. There's no way I'm going to do something as stupid as leave my dogs behind because some landlord is flipping out because they exist.
We put down the money on it, and we're going to be off! I move in on the 8th...through the ...rest of the month!
New landlord HAS dogs. We've got a year lease, so I'll be in Union City, which is several miles from where I am now, but not nearly as crazy as the move I made four years ago, nor the move I made almost eight years ago now.
So, the fun part is coming up. The moving!
I don't know how many of you read my LJ (I find it easier to update while I'm at work than my FA account's journal) but if you remember my last bedroom: http://westly-roanoke.livejournal.com/201926.html
Now, I get a bigger one. I'm going to have to figure out how to set it all up. I'm rather excited about it! I will be taking pictures and uploading things to my LJ, so if you want to keep track of me, I'll be over at http://westly-roanoke.livejournal.com
I'll update here every so often if I can, but we are going to be without internet at home for a while, but, I work for the internet, so I will be on during the day.
Ah, October makes me so happy!
So, sketches are put on hold, probably till Novemberish. I know it's a long time, but I do kind of have a LOT of stuff, plus, when I'm finished, I need to help my room-mates move as well. I have pretty much consolidated all of my own stuff into my own areas already, but... I'm so useful! ::laughs::
Going to have to take some time off work to move too.
I'm a little obsessed with the whole moving thing. ::laughs:: So, wish me luck!!

Well, great.
Posted 16 years agoSo, I'm having to move out of my house.
This sucks, because it's pretty much based on the fact that we have dogs. Our landlords have been fine with this for the past three years, however, now they're saying that they don't like the dogs here.
They said we could stay here, if we got rid of the dogs.
This tells me what kind of person they are, and we're moving. So, I'm going to throw everything into finding a house to live in (Where I can, with three large dogs, two large fishtanks, one cat, and a metric shit-ton of snakes...)
I'll update sketches when I get a chance again...But, for now...I've got too much to try to do.
Expect pictures of my new place when I finally get into it. ::sighs::
So frustrating!!

Question for those of you waiting on sketches!
Posted 16 years agoDo you want me to do your sketch digitally? (Since I'm doing these sketches to improve my ability with art.)
Or should I do your sketch on pencil/paper?
I'll assume pencil/paper unless you guys answer here otherwise!!
-Wes
