And, you're gonna get everything. The main animation, the isolated loops, perhaps some variants if people want them. The response to the funding page was actually very unexpected. If it was going to be anything, I expected it to be a series of $5 contributions or so, but the people who did contribute were much more generous than that and if I'm being honest, I'm not exactly sure what to say, so I'll just pivot to shitting on Furaffinity for a while.

Anyway, FA is booty. It's been a fucking week and animations are still broken and images are being re-compressed and worsened. Unless they're the most reckless web devs on the planet, they surely have backup code they could revert to from before last weekend and they're just not doing it, presumably because they don't actually have a server space to host these bigger resolutions they promised and were hoping you wouldn't notice how they pulled it off.

It's extremely annoying.

For the immediate future, I'm trying to hold out and hope that by some miracle this is the one time that the phrase 'we're working on a fix' actually means the same things the words do, because I'd really rather host the animation here, proper. It'll absolutely cripple engagement if I have to host it somewhere else and just post a link - humans don't complete extra steps. That said, you're all owed an animation so if this goes on for too much longer I will indeed throw it over on e621 and just...deal with it. They just had to fucking pull this shit this god damn week. It's almost comical.

But either way, thank you to everyone who contributed to that. It was much more than expected.

You can see why FA deciding THIS WEEK to release an update that breaks all newly posted animations is just such a hilariously specific 'screw you' to me after I finally finished this animation I've been doing off and on for months. And that's after the 6 hour fight to convert it to a PNG so the file would be small enough to post here.

Like guys you don't understand how epic that battle was to convert this thing into a single, standalone file. I thought all was lost. I was ready to give up and perhaps never share it. When I finally converted it, I felt like I beat Tyson.

In short: Well that's not entirely how I expected that to go.

The media was hyping up a so-called "red wave" so much you can practically see the lust in their eyes, they've been cheering on fascism for years now and this was finally going to be the end of that 2-year recess onto some semblance of normal.

Indeed, the result took a lot of us by surprise as Dems held the Senate and have an outside chance of very lightly expanding their majority there. The American Fascist party will take the House of Representatives as expected but by a margin far, far lower than expected. Depending on just how low, this could turn out to be almost more fun than if they'd lost it outright.

Right now, the GOP is in the midst of a civil war, between the Trump cultists who still view him as the party's Fuhrer, and the "Establishment" Republicans who view Ron DeSantis as a younger, stronger, smarter, more competent fascist to bet on. For the record, the old guard is correct, but Trump very well may carry enough influence to cause some serious damage to the party via infighting.

For the sake of the country, let's hope that's true.

Honestly, for all intents and purposes, this was still a bad result. Dems needed a miraculous performance which saw them actually expand their Senate majority and keep the House so that they could do aggressive things like expand the Supreme Court, which is currently compromised while in the hands of theocratic authoritarians. That didn't happen and they will continue to systematically dismantle 50 to 100 years of civil rights in this country in ways I think a lot of you have not quite grasped. Same sex marriage and the right to contraception are in serious trouble. Affirmative Action is as good as dead (lol that the Asian family who brought that to the court thinks that's going to help them).

We are still living in the worst timeline and I'm still planning to jump ship.

But I don't know, for once my brain's dopamine production kicked in and it allowed me to enjoy the schadenfreude of pissed off Conservatives and foolish looking pollsters. Regardless of what happens later, this was incredibly embarrassing for them and funny for me. In a just world that exists only in film and television, this would be the Frankenstein's Monster portion of the GOP's lurch into fascism, and Trump destroys them all after they lose control of him, leaving the rest of us to rebuild in the wake of their mutually assured destruction.

Still, I've learned that evil can definitely organize and cooperate for the greater evil and they do so with much greater efficiency than the good do. America still teeters over the edge and there are no apparent saviors at the moment. But at least for now, we had a good laugh.

But, the series finale of America, as always, refuses to make itself clear. Going into this election are numerous uncertainties which complicate which would normally be a slam dunk for the GOP, America's fascist party.

Will the repeal of the guaranteed right to an abortion spur women voters to overwhelmingly reject the GOP - even white women?

Is the anecdotal evidence that young voters are finally giving a shit actually true?

Will Trump voters who have been told for 2 years the elections are rigged bother to show up?

Will Trump loyalists newly installed into election positions flex their power to subvert the results beyond reach?

And about a million other things.

If it were a movie, a miracle would occur, and at the 11th hour, American democracy would be saved by unprecedented intervention by a newly energized electorate. But, this is of course real life. And in real life of course, the bad guy almost always wins.

Some fans are just shy about engaging but even if you're not getting anything, don't be discouraged!"

You see if you've ever been an artist, ever attempted to do something creative, and ever been disappointed by the lack of engagement it's received, you've probably heard this bit of non-advice from somebody who has no idea what they're talking about:

"Just do it for you!"

SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU FUCKING DUMBFUCK YOU DON'T KNOW FUCK ABOUT FUCK.

Anybody who says this to you doesn't know what the fuck art is or why it's created. Is it flawed to make art and judge it solely on popularity? Of course, but art is self-expression, it's the creation of an idea which for better or worse, means something to you, and any artist taking it at all seriously want to know if it means something to somebody else. Has the messaging succeeded? Have they tapped into the emotions in you that it did (or was supposed to) in them? THIS is what artists, particularly long-time artists are looking for. Some might be looking for simple praise, and it's okay to want that too, but for me, I don't need you to say "THIS IS AMAZING!!!" or "So hot" or whatever, that tells me nothing for the most part, I'm looking for how it affected you, specifically. Even if it's just porn and it's just 'this is the part that made be horny' hey, that's relevant information, especially given all the decision making that goes into making that shit.

And on that topic, if you at all pay attention to what I say around here then you know how often I lament the lack of reaction to SFW art. Frankly people are also content to just fave or lurk porn without engagement of any kind but its odds of getting something are dramatically higher. And I'll make a journal post or rant in a description about that.

And what happens? What happens nearly every single time?

Somebody comes along, often the same somebody or two and says: I like/prefer your clean work, actually.

Well, you coulda fuckin' fooled me because you only ever make an appearance on these fucking posts to play contrarian, you know what would have been really helpful? SAYING SOMETHING ON THE CLEAN ART YOU SUPPOSEDLY PREFER CRAZY I KNOW.

I don't know what you people think it's like being (or in my case, attempting to be) an artist is but based on the low key resentment so many have, you seem to think it's just waking up one day, drawing something neat and thinking "Gee, I'm so glad to have this skill so I can draw anything I want, anytime! Life is grand!" Do you think it's fun? Because me assure it - it almost never is. It's a curious phenomenon that's been the topic of many memes and jokes online, the plight of the artist and their ever torturous psyche over their own work. You've seen the comic.

"I love this drawing! ...I hate this drawing!"

When you tell somebody "do it because you love it" first of all, again, fuck off and die, but second, while the act of creating might be cathartic, artists rarely look at the finished product and think "That's great, I love this, so glad I did that." In fact they're overwhelmed with doubt, seeing all their little errors. You, the consumer, see it for what it is, all at once. We see every little mistake and imperfection, we see a bunch of incoherent scribbles, and pine for what could have been.

That's where you come in.

When you post art and nobody engages with it, nobody says they like it, whether or not they do, you default back to thinking, yep, my first instinct was correct, that was crap. Or, worse, if you did have a rare feeling of pride for what you've put together, you're crushed when nobody seems to find it any more special than all the other stuff you thought less of and if you're anything like me you take that lesson to heart - never be proud of anything.

"But that shouldn't matter, just draw because you love it!"

Die. And that's exactly what I fucking did. I drew, because I like to draw, because I like to try and scribble out an idea or a concept that I hope takes root in the mind of someone else. When you opt to just sit in the background only taking but never giving, you're robbing me, and other artists, of that final step. Did we draw it for ourselves? Absolutely. But we also drew it for you to see it and perhaps gain a greater understanding of ourselves, what's important to us, what our vision of a given idea is, and if that's worth anything.

Artists like myself are asking so absurdly little of you. That if you like what you see, if it makes you happy, entertains you, titillates you, you just say something to that effect. It's an incredibly one-sided transaction. In exchange for completely free content which, if you're a watcher/lurker probably consistently entertains you, we merely ask to know a little about why. And when you can't even do that, when that is asking literally too much, some artists, like myself, will begin to grow resentful. First toward ourselves for apparently being unable to create anything which convinces you to perform the laughably simple task of sharing a reaction, but also because we've given you untold hours and gigabytes of entertainment for free and your attitude seems to be "I should get this for literally nothing, even occasional feedback is far too much for me to do."

This is especially true if you're an artist who is outspoken about this as I am. By now, anyone paying the least amount of attention knows that I'm looking for reaction over faves or more often, nothing at all. You know this, you show up long enough to say "Well I dunno what to say" and you go back to doing nothing. So little was asked of you but it's too much because you're just here for the free content, you don't want to support the content by encouraging its continued existence, you just want to consume it until it's gone and then move on to whatever else.

"I don't know what to say..."

What went through your mind when you hit that fave button, hit that watch button? Have you noticed how many artists ask you what item of theirs garnered the watch? BECAUSE THE WATCH ALONE TELLS THEM NOTHING. Whether they're trying to figure what's considered to be their best work or tailor their content to reach a broader audience and succeed financially, it's of the utmost importance that they know what creative work of theirs is succeeding with people. And what do they do with this information? They make more art for you to enjoy.

And for you to sit there, and do nothing, and defend doing nothing as "Oh well I-I don't know what to say, m-my anxiety..." is fucking bogus. Oh, you have anxiety? Try bearing your goddamn soul in graphite or text for the entire world to criticize while those who do like it sit in their dark little corner too fucking chicken shit to say "I like this character because ___." Think about that for a moment, so many of you are fucking paralyzed at the thought of saying that you like the art that you like. You have the easiest fucking role in this entire operation and you just can't fucking be bothered.

And what does it get you? Sure, maybe the artist will get popular despite this, maybe they'll be profitable and keep on going. Or maybe they won't, maybe they figure well, guess this isn't working, give up, move on. If they're like me, they actively avoid giving you what you want on the grounds of "honestly, fuck you." Despite the fact that nobody other than friends could be bothered to weigh in on it, I'm still considering launching that Patreon but this time it's not due to an effort to make money to live off of which, frankly, was always gonna be a bust, no, it's because I legitimately don't want to give you the content I know you want. I feel like I'm failing myself in giving it to people who can't even rise to the absolutely bare minimum of support, and my thought process is "Well, I tried to give it to you for free, asking only for some indication as to why you're enjoying this supply of free content, but even that was too much, you were too entitled to my work to even do that for me, the one thing in the world I asked for in return, COULDN'T EVEN DO IT WHEN I ASKED FOR IT AS A BIRTHDAY WISH A FEW YEARS BACK so now, fuck it, you should pay. That's where I'm at. Of course you may ask "why does there need to be an alternative? Why can't people just not go on the website which is little else beyond inane arguing, lies and disinformation, and peer-to-peer abuse which has done nothing but weaken our institutions across the globe and make us all dramatically more miserable than we were before it existed?"

So, in a nutshell, that's why there will be no exodus, or at least not until something viable comes along to replace twitter, much as twitter was a kind of de facto replacement for Facebook when that website became what twitter will become under Musk (Which again...will be the same website, only more).

Because the fact is, people...just don't care about...things.

SCOTUS is officially back in session. I remarked on this about a week ago but, to recap, here's some of what you can expect this term:

-Legalization of discrimination against the LGBTQ community for businesses

-Legalization of the deliberate dilution of black voting power via gerrymandering (this is already essentially legal, this court case will just formally make it legal to admit that you're doing it)

-End of affirmative action

-Legalization of Republican states throwing out voting results they don't like and giving electoral votes to the Republican candidate

But, I know you'll manage. Right up to the moment they march you off to the camps. I've been told that makes you a healthier person than me.

Anyway, so yes, I'm thinking about making a Patreon with a heavy emphasis on the adult work I so often deprive you of over here these days.

If that were to happen, what kinds of things would you like to see over there? It can be: things I don't currently do, things I used to do that you want to see return, specific scenarios you want more focus on, etc.

What would make that objectively terrible use of your money seem like a good one to you?


EDIT: Some early things I considered putting there include -

Certain recurring scenarios which would either be exclusive or largely exclusive to patreon

Various sketches I have laying around at any given time that for one reason or another I opted not to upload to my main accounts.

Isolated animation loops or alternate scenes made out of existing animation assets

Some sort of "Graveyard" feature which might let patreons decide on an unfinished WIP or sketch to go ahead and bring across the finish line.

These are all very early ideas, and for all intents and purposes I still have no idea what I'm doing.
