Havencon notes
Posted 10 years agoThe con went well! There was a good furry presence and a friendly atmosphere, all sorts of fun cosplay.
AV stuff was chaotic because I kept finding things out a half hour before. Some of them (the change to a much larger room for the dance) were great, some of them were embarassing...the drag performers wanted the room lights off and the flashy flashies on, but they were all set up in the corner. I easily could have set up pars to light the dance floor...if I had more notice. Well, live and learn.
Used the anti-feedback feature in the Driverack and had almost zero problems, just a little when the director was standing directly in front of a top. Derp!
Half the lights cut out partway through Edgewises' DJ set, and I found the problem: The new MH washes have a single-bolt mount, allowing the base to rotate unless you screw it down REALLY tight. When they started moving fast the base moved the opposite direction and the DMX cables pulled loose. Derpx2! Well, it's fixable...gonna try to convert the mount to two-bolt.
Danced for well over an hour, most of it with my head on. Having blower fans pointed at the dancefloor was key! Mmmm, air |)
Good crowd, many thanks to the wonderful Austin furries for getting up and making it feel like home. :)
Definitely doing it next year! I know better what kind of surprises to expect if I'd doing A/V stuff again then.

Havencon this weekend!
Posted 10 years agoIt's time!
http://havencontx.com/
Austin's first LGBTetc gaming convention is this weekend. Not a furry con per se but the organizers are trying hard to be inclusive and I know several folks are planning on attending, some in costume.
There will be a dance! Corbeau and Edgewise will be DJing.
If you just want to socialize/dance, they'll be letting people in for 5$ after 10pm. It is 18+.
Lauren and I will be that the Furry Fiesta table, say hi! :)

V-day decorations
Posted 10 years agoThis Wensday I encourage folks to use the big sheets of pink and red paper that I'll have on hand to make Valentine's day decorations! Think big and bold, I'll have some sharpies to ink with!
Valentine's dance/party is on!
Posted 10 years agoJust a reminder that we're on for friday the 13th. Couples will be gently and affectionately mocked. :) Last event before Texas Furry Fiesta, whoo!
As always, costumes encouraged. Bonus points if you wear red or pink!
Note me if you need or want details. :)

Posted 10 years agoOkay, gonna aim for the 13th (friday) for the last dance before TFF. Pink lights, love ballads and a slow song or two, and if I ask my mate politely maybe chocolate fondue. :9

Christmas day potluck at Ozy's
Posted 10 years agoOzy's organizing a potluck for folks who don't have elsewhere to be on Xmas day, let him know if you are interested!
While I am lucky enough to have family within driving distance, I know not every fur is quite so lucky. After talking with some friends and weighing the options, I want to extend an open invitation to any and all furs in the Austin area who do not have nearby family to spend Christmas with to come over for some food and fun at my place. I don't have much, just a couch, some chairs, and a kitchen and stuff, but if you want to and you're in the area, please come on down to share the day with myself and others. No fur should be alone on Christmas (no matter what your religious, spiritual, commercial, and/or other inclinations may or may not be), so come spend it with me and whoever else wishes to attend!
If you do plan on attending, please plan to bring some kind of food or drink to contribute to the spread. I'll likely have the turkey covered, but any and everything else is welcome! I plan on starting around noonish and continuing on as long as there are furs around to enjoy it.
If you are interested, please either note me on FA, send me a Skype request (listed in my contact info below) or send an email to mrozyfox[at]gmail to RSVP and get address and further contact info as needed.
In the meantime, I just wanna wish everyone some happy holidays and my personal best wishes in all that you do!

P.S. -- No, I have never been a fox, it's...it's a long story >w>

Hindpaws ideas
Posted 11 years agoBeautyofthebass's 'Sharraz' suit has been very inspirational ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9266124/ ) and she posted this nice video about her hindpaw construction:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsEfwx04fdA
I like the idea of paw 'spats' that can fit over other shoes. Life is too short to wear uncomfortable shoes. Being able to fit them to comfortable broken-in footwear is just smart if one can make it work.
Traditional spats ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spats_(footwear) ) strap under the shoe just in front of the heel--this doesn't work too well for the sneakers that I usually wear, but she mentions putting velcro tabs on her shoes to help hold them in place and that's totally doable.
So....great ideas! Let's see what we can do with them. :)

Next furry dance: Nov 29th
Posted 11 years agoI'm thinking the 29th....which is very close to T-giving (the weekend immediately after) but on the flipside a break from family time might be a GOOD thing. :)
If anyone has brilliant ideas for a venue I'm open to them, but I'm comfortable defaulting to me and Corby's place. Or T&A's garage, that would work as long as it stays cold!

Social/dance space
Posted 11 years agoOn sunday night Corbeau took us downtown for a meetup for the video game he's playing. It was held at a rooftop lounge downtown, really pretty place with subdued blue lighting and with the recent pleasant weather it was totally comfortable!
There was a bouncer at the door but no cover charge, and a guy playing oontz oontz, allegedly themed after the game in question. Nothing objectionable.
The event was something of a fizzle--the place was pretty deserted, but this can probably be chalked up in part to ACL fest being in full swing just a mile away. BUT it was educational to know that there are nice spaces available that don't have to charge $$$ for access.
Networking with people who run these places is probably really really useful when you don't have money to throw around. |)
Anyways, still an interesting idea, and keeping my ears open to possibilities. Austin still needs a full blown furry dance night!
In the short term, though, looking forwards to making T&A's garage the hoppin'est fuzzy dance floor in suburban north Austin on Halloween, and tail wriggling under UV lights! *wrigglewriggle*

Letting hyenas talk to your parents!
Posted 11 years agoI've mentioned this to some of y'all. I'm going to try to run a panel at FF2015 for parents or guardians who are at the con accompanying/chaperoneing their kids.
At least half of this is so they can get together and swap stories with each other and laugh about the silliness of the situation that they're in, but I want to have some good info for them!
Some I will be stealing from the furry research project, but it would be really really useful to be able to talk to actual parent type people.
Soooo...if you are 21 or under and have a parent or guardian who has been looking after you while you've been involved in the furry community, I would love to have a chat with your guardian, either in person (if in Austin) or email. Ideally in person.
I realize that this is a long shot, but....think about it! And let me know if they'd be willing to contact me!
I have a lot of respect for parents who take enough of an interest in their kid's activities to learn more about out-of-the-norm stuff rather than just saying 'no' or shrugging and not caring, and I want to provide them with useful info from the perspective of a parent. There's lots of info out there for participants, but not a whole lot for parents...not that I can find anyways.
(if you HAVE found any good stuff for parents, I'm also interested in that!)

Tail/ear/costume work for Halloween?
Posted 11 years agoIf anyone has any costume-related projects that they'd like to get done for halloween, now's a good time to get started on them! I'm happy to provide any help that I can on wednesday evenings.
It's probably a little late to start on a fursuit unless you're REALLY hardcore, but tails and ears and stuff are easy. :)

German (I think?) TV article on Eurofurence
Posted 11 years agoNicely done! The interviewer lady gets so many hugs, briefly dresses up in loaner costume. Interesting to see an overseas perspective.

(to foxes pawing her face) "Don't mess up my makeup, I am wearing so much of it!"

Halloween party
Posted 11 years ago...will be at Avrin and Tylenn's new place this year. There will be effects lights and dancing for the shameless as usual, and a new crowd of folks to be amazed at how in to Halloween that one house is. :)
Bojack Horseman
Posted 11 years agoReally enjoying this Netflix cartoon, I suggest it!
A few episodes in there's a video game cover with a barbarian and what I'll swear is a cute little fennec-girl at his feet. <3
Also the dog character is just generally really cute!

Hyenas on NBC!
Posted 11 years agoKudos to NBC for a nice article on furries and yay for Indy making it in the video for .2 seconds. Hyenas! *wagwag*
That was fun :)
Posted 11 years agoHad a nice time this weekend, it was good to see folks and dress up and have fun! Thank you to Sark for bringing drinks and DJing, sorry you didn't get to fursuit but it seemed like you were having fun.
The flock of Pupcakes (
seamen brought all her extra heads and friends were wearing them) was adorable, and
bosgo in fox drag was amazing. He came up with that on short notice, and still found time to make potato salad! Just wow. :)
Our neighbor across the street came over to ask us to have a car moved (it was in front of a fire hydrant and squeezing her driveway) and someone pointed me at the door while I was dressed up in the hyena costume...my first thought when I realized it was not an attendee was that I should get Corby, then I thought why bother? I came out to talk to her. She was having a hard time not laughing as she talked to me, bass thumping and lasers flickering around inside our house behind us. Ah, surreality. |)
I hope this doesn't hurt our property values! *checks HOA for mention of hyenas*

Dance on for saturday! (Aug 2)
Posted 11 years agoWe're on! Para and Tique will be joining us from Dallas, so be sure to say hello to them.
Kage and Sark have volunteered to play music again, looking forwards to that. :)
Theme is 'Rise of the cabana foxes', any summery accessories are appropriate. Or just be yourself, however fuzzy that is!
Aiming at 7pm-ish to start. Shoot me a call or a note if you have any questions!

16 tons
Posted 11 years agoI've been thinking that I need to make a prop '16 ton' weight for Kempi's next year. A slender wood frame, some plywood and hinges (or other collapseable connectors) and a coat of paint and I think I could have something respectable!
Hang that from the ceiling and it'd be a good photo opp. Or put it on the floor, but I'd have to build it sturdy enough to be clambered around on if I did that.
Other idea: novelty huge-size horseshoe magnet, prop cannon (perhaps pointed at sign reading 'Free Bird Seed'), crates spray-painted 'TNT'...any other ideas?
