Hi everyone,

It’s been a while without updates, I know, and I'm terribly sorry. Today, however, I am in a position to share with you my plans regarding Blade Under Mask.

The past year was really tumultuous for me. I had a scheduled surgery in another city and a long recovery period that forced me to travel between cities every few months. Because of that, I had to put the comic on a temporary hiatus.

This entire year I stayed away from comic work, I learned a lot about myself, good and bad things. I was professionally diagnosed with severe anxiety, and it was starting to affect not only my mind, but also my physical health. Now I'm working on healing: I'm taking medications and receiving psychiatric treatment, which is helping me more than I can put into words.

One of the sources of this anxiety - if not the biggest of all - was the webcomic. The stress and pressure of having to deliver pages on due dates; the massive amount of time, physical and mental effort I had to dedicate to that task and the finantial instability it brought were too much for me. I had not anticipated things would take this turn when I had the idea of creating a webcomic. If I could have predicted all of this, I would have never started it in the first place.

I need to take care of my health and well being before everything else, and this leads us to the unavoidable conclusion – it’s time to put Blade Under Mask on an indefinite hiatus.

I know this announcement is a big let down for many of you, especially those who have been with me from the beginning, who were there for the birth of this story before I had even decided to make a webcomic out of it. I have always appreciated your interest and involvement in the comic. From the bottom of my heart, I offer my most sincere gratitude and apologize for being unable to continue. Thank you.


Here's a Q&A about this announcement:


1. How does the story end? Will you write a summary of it?
No. Blade Under Mask is on indefinite hiatus – not cancelled. One day I may want to tackle this big project again, revise and relaunch it in a different way, in a different media. Just not for the time being.

2. What will happen to your Patreon?
I am going to close it. It will stay up for the next two weeks to allow the Patrons to download all content. I will be sending an art pack containting a lot of full resolution art as an apology to Patrons for the lack of content since September.

If you, however, want to keep supporting my art, you have the option of pledging to my general art Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/WhiteMantis. It's just a tip jar and will focus on my art in general, not on a specific project like this one.

3. What will happen to the website?
It's currently down, as some of you may have noticed. I am going to bring it back and keep it up as long as possible. The comment section will be shut down.

4. What will happen to all the related social media, like Tapastic?
All the available content will remain. There are just not going to be any updates in the foreseeable future.

5. Can I continue the story for you?
I would kindly ask you not to. As stated before, the project is just sleeping, not dead, and I am keeping my options open in case I want to continue this project in the future.

6. Will you print Volume 1 in its current state?
No. It's not complete and and it's also not worth putting the effort into printing something incomplete.

Commissions are closed again! I've received so many good ideas that it was impossible to take just a few, so this working list will extend throughout March as well. If your name is in this list, you will be receiving an invoice via PayPal in the next hour or so.
