I'm going to Seattle...
Posted 15 years agoYup, for my senior year I'm trying to make more and more trips/conferences and network for my career, and in January I'm going to the biggest weather convention of all, the AMS Conference in Seattle. I'm uber excited for so many reasons. The trip itself. I've never flown on an airplane before (commercially, and in the past 15 years). The city itself (a few of my friends are going with me, so it's gonna be fuuuuuuun having a night or two out on the town), obviously the conference itself, being the furthest out west I've ever been, and best of all...aside from the $25 reg. fee it's all free! XD The whole trip, hotel stay, etc. The dept. and one of our profs are funding it all. It's gonna be AWESOME. I also plan on going to Iowa next semester as well for a conference there.
I can't wait Sorry, just had to vent. It's rare for me to be able to do anything exciting these days.

Anyway, it's not a notable numbered birthday, so really no pomp-and-circumstance is going on. I'm going home (my parents' place) for a week and I guess my parents are going to do the cake and ice cream and take me to see a movie, which I told them not to because they can't afford it anymore than I can. But, they're parents, so what can ya do. I started a sentence with "But". I'm awesome.

I'm beat XD I didn't get much sleep last night and it's a two-hour drive to and from the office from Mt. Pleasant so it's a bit of a commute (luckily I only have to go there twice a week).

Posted 15 years agoSo, my ex/roommate is leaving for FCN in the morning, and while I'm bummed I won't be able to join him (lack of funds and school and all) I'm actually kind of looking forward to having this weekend to myself. I didn't realize until earlier that I haven't actually had any time to myself (let alone a whole weekend) in almost a year. So this is good. Not sure why I felt the need to post this, but eh I really hope I can make more cons in the future. This summer...
Posted 15 years ago...I'm working for the National Weather Service in Gaylord I got my acceptance email today. Just have to do the thumbprints and fill out the government paperwork.
It's not a paid internship, regrettably, but it is still an internship and definitely a foot in the door. Hopefully by the time I'm 50 I'll have worked my way through the salary brackets to a 6-figure income and maybe finally be able to attend a con or two, lmao

Posted 16 years agoI really wish there was some way of changing my name without having to create a new account. I'm tired of constantly looking at "Wild But Tender" and in my head reading "Wild Butt Ender" instead (The original name must have been some lame attempt I made at being "suave" when I first created this account a year and a half ago)
Anyway, I know I've said this countless times before but I am thinking of adding/contributing a little more to this account by taking more pictures this summer. Since I can't draw, and my writing and poetry skills are sub-par at best, I figure you can't go wrong with photography. Throw some flowers on a puddle of water, take a pic, call it art? XD Nah, I hope to take mostly weather related photos, even if the weather isn't "doing" anything, it's still nice to gaze at once in awhile.

College has started back up. That's always fun. 4 of my 5 classes are Meteorology classes. That's going to make for a tough semester. I'm now Vice President of my RSO. I get to go speak to students in the freshmen classes about our group and such. I hate public speaking Personal life...well not a whole lot. Some leftover drama and such but after this weekend...things should quiet down Crappy weather outside. Wanted to go home for the weekend but I couldn't yesterday as I had unfinished business to attend to and today made driving very difficult which I didn't want to risk. It'll suck just going home for one day but eh, better than nothing I guess. I haven't been home in over a month and I'm itching to see my family again. I'll probably be going home next weekend and the weekend after (Superbowl weekend). I wanted to go the furmeet yesterday but ah well. There's always next time I suppose. I almost did go. In retrospect I could have, but I don't like being late for such functions I guess. Meh.
Anyway, hope everyone is doing well. Talk to you all later.

Oh my where to begin...from the beginning I suppose would be the logical choice. Very well then. I applaud you if you actually read through this entire thing XD
THURSDAY
So I woke up early enough in the morning to shower, shave, and pack my stuff before heading over to pick up Rok and Eenyu. Once that was done, we all headed over to Grand Rapids where we met up with Kat and Red. From there, the two cars convoyed to Wheeling, IL! Along the way the weather got progressively worse, and during one instance we had a minor incident regarding a 90-degree spin of the vehicle XD Eventually we met up with Daddy DJ himself , Oddy/Keith. Other than that, and the Chicago traffic (which despite the traffic and night time setting Chicago is beautiful), not much else happened on the way there. We managed to check in at the overflow hotel around 9pm CST. From there, we met up with Sushikitten and Radium, drove to the main hotel (Westin) and meandered around a bit. We pre-registered and visited Gir and them in their room. Afterwards, we went out to eat at a very nice restaurant/bar, and eventually came back to the overflow hotel where we settled in for the night. I know I'm probably getting some of the events in here backwards or out of order but it really doesn't matter in what order.
FRIDAY
HURRAY! Con day! We made our way to the main hotel around 10am or so and wandered around looking at all the fursuiters and mingling and such. Met up with a bunch of cool friends such as Jeno and the incomparable Kitsuneko and her husband Whisper. And of course InfinityFire ^_^ Anyway, opening ceremonies at Noon, and afterwards, it was a free-for-all all day. Between the artist alley, chilling out in "the Den" and the dealer's den, it was awesome. We ended up going to Buca for lunch and that friggen rocked. I can't even list all the people I hung out with at MFF so if I miss your name I apologize. You all rock. Hung out a bit with Gir and them, and then a group of furs and myself went to see Bolt 3D which was friggen awesome, including an embarrasing trip to Sushi's parents house which I won't mention any more of XD. There are a lot of little things but I won't bother with those.
SATURDAY
Lots here, not sure where to start. Same as Friday for the better part of the day, however, it was even more awesome than Friday, what with the hanging out with even more furs, going to the dance and raving with fursuits, furries and glowsticks (I came prepared this time ^_^ ), getting drunk and partying up in Kit's room, and going back to the dance...just fantastic.
SUNDAY
Things were progressively winding down and we made our way through the various rooms to get a last look at items at the dealer's den and such. I feel kinda bad that I didn't buy hardly anything there this weekend when there were a few things I would have liked to have, but ah well. Next time. I did buy, however, a cool little Marquee pin/magnet which you can put on yourself or other things and program it to say whatever ^_^ Pretty sweet. Hung out with more furs including Ed Hyena and Midway. Anyway, before leaving we sat in on a special podcast recording of Method 1, before which I was graciously asked to record an intro (for later use) using my Arnold Schwartzenegger voice, lol. Fun times and lulz were to be had all around. We left around 8pm or so, and Eenyu and myself got back into Mt. Pleasant around 4am.
I didn't do this entry as much justice as I thought I could or should but I guess my mind is a bit hazy. Although, what would a post-con report be without pictures and videos??? XD Links provided below. Although this con was just as awesome as FCN, I don't have as much PCD (Post Con Depression for you noobs) as I did after FCN. I just look forward to going to the next con, which hopefully for me will be FCN '09 ^_^
