I had to go on long term disability back in January and that ended in June. I just found out yesterday I won't get any unemployment because of how I was released and I've heard no word of my disability claim. I LOVE making Glow in the Dark items!
The one thing I don't like is the cost of the powder.

I use GRADE-0 GitD Powder- the BEST you can get that will last the longest glow!
It's about $20 to $30 an ounce and this powder is HEAVY; it sinks in the resin, requiring a lot of it to be used, and if you don't use a lot you'll get 1/2 of your model glowing strong and the other half clear.

So in order to make them I have to use a lot of GitD Powder. It makes it hard to want to do it, but damned if it doesn't look cool!

It just occurred to me that I can help other people make things they want produced!

I know that seems silly, but the amount of work, hardware and time for making molds and casting them is out of most peoples reach-- the fact I did it surprised me! :p
Compared to trying to get a 3D printing company or major company to make a series of figures I can provide the same service at a fraction of the cost!

Is other people start doing something that I've wanted to start for YEARS but didn't have the funds to do so.
It's not that I don't think it's good that they're doing it, it just kinda ticks me off because no one is doing it when I want to but can't afford it. Then EVERYONE starts doing it and it's no longer financially plausible for me to get into it.

I get so sick of being poor.

I've been making props and got a few more to do, but my 3D printer broke. I need to raise some funds to help cover some of the cost for a small 3D printer. I don't like asking people to just give me money, but I love to offer neat, new things for it!

One of the most difficult things I have is figuring out how much something is worth.

I'm a min wage employee. I've never had money to spare and can't afford to buy things for myself often... if ever. Because of this the items I make I want to sell cheap so other people can afford to purchase them. To me, $10 is a lot of money to spend on anything. Even $5 is hard to let go because that's usually two meals. :(

Feeling this way I want to charge as little as I can, but it means I don't end up making anything. I made one product for a person and sold them for under $4 each. I made a total of 16 items for $70, but only because he gave me more; initially the first 8 were $3.75 ea and second 8 ordered were $2.50 ea ($50 ttl)
I REALLY should have charged more, but by my mindset not having money, I couldn't afford to buy them myself so I sold them at what I thought was "reasonable."
Sadly this means after the cost of materials, machine operation time and manual labor I made less then min wage for what I did WITH the extra he paid-- possibly even less then a waitress makes an hour. If I charged what I'm estimating I should have I should've made a minimum of $96, possibly $160 if I charged $10 each instead.

I put a lot of time into making them actually function- something MOST prop replicas do NOT do... something even the ACTUAL prop itself didn't do!
I'm charging (ATM) $60 for them: they have all the hardware you'd need to put one together and they're "pin in hole" assembly, so both functional and simple to assemble.

Do you think that's a fair price? I based it off other prop replicas of the same size, but none of those are functional, have moving parts, etc.

I've got them listed pre-production for $6 unfinished and $11 finished. I won't be selling them unfinished once I start production but i'm in debates if I should charge more then that. I'm considering raising the cost of these to $15 or $20 ea. for the finished version.




Do the above prices sound fair to you?

I'm working on designing a toy series and having to continue to redesign certain features. As of now I've got most the kinks worked out on making it move right and be affordable.
I do have a few limitations that I have to work with, so I've got a lot more work to go before I can release them. I can't wait to present these to the world though! :D

I'm planning on producing them for $60 for unfinished pulls (including shipping within the US.)
Currently I'm seeing who all is interested in purchasing one before I get them printed in better quality.

This would include the spring needed for it to function. Looking at LEDs I'm finding them to appear pink instead of red so I may include a cast red part instead of an actual LED to put in the top.

I've got a perfect credit score (about 812 I think) , 2.5yr employment history, low debt, and excellent repayment history... so WHY can't I get a decent loan?
I need a five year loan for $10,000; this would combine my small amount of debt left, get two machines for production and a bit of material for production with and would be the same as my current monthly debts.

Instead of any decent price I'm being offered by Lending Club $8k @ 15% for 3 years at twice my current monthly debts and Prosper $4k for 12%. These simply will not do and are outrageous.
I can't get a SBL because I need to combine my current debt into it to make it affordable. I can't get the above because they're exuberant in the cost, and I can't get a personal loan from a bank because they won't go to the amount I need.

This is quite aggravating.

You can read more about it here facebook.com/TheAtomicSoul but basically my 3D printer has screwed up AGAIN, and once again is causing a delay on getting any type of funding campaign going.
I reeealy need a work space, and now I really need a better 3D printer!

Ironically all these new name brand 3D printers you see popping up are being controlled on the print size and seems to be limited to 0.25mm prints. This wont' do for character models, and I need something that can do better quality.
What I really need is about $4k: $3k to do super high detail prints, and $1k for large scale prints that can be sanded down.

I am also having vehicle issues, and once my headache goes away I'll be outside trying to figure out whats wrong with it: it's started smoking FNAR. (Actually, I think the reason is because I'm finally getting caught up in life and that's when something goes wrong!)

Around the 1st I entered a commission auction (cause the only 3 slots that were available were taken) and until the 8th I didn't have anyone try to out bid me. (BIG surprise, as the artist is great!)

On the 8th, however, I closed the the page by accident and LOST the page it was on!
I never got a notice if anyone out bid me, but I didn't get a notice I won.
But I can't remember what their icon was or it got changed- I couldn't find it in the 72 PAGES of icons of people I watch!


So now I'm clueless if I won it and should respond, or if I was outbid.

Yea, This is a rantish journal. On several things going on right now.

So, I'm pissed. I have a Makerbot Thing-O-Matic and the bloody thing continuously screws up. I got a couple parts in and they're messing up. Spent the entire day trying to get the bloody thing to function and it's still not working right. The tech guys are friendly at their company, but they don't know a THING about this unit- they only know the companies two current prebuilt units.
I baught this thing so I could build items quickly, prototype product designs, and in general make a ton of shit I need to make. But thus far, I have only been able to get ONE item completely built, and it was tiny.

I'll be trying to fix the dang thing, but got other things to work on tomorrow... now that I wasted today.


Also- I'm broke broke. I'll be broke all month, so missing out on several things going on this month because of this, which makes me a bit depressed. Further, I'm spending $50+ a WEEK in gas, just going to and from work. my car is a POS and gets at the best 18 miles per gallon. Stupid machine. Further I'm low on food and others think it's ok to eat what I got. AND someone has owed me $100 since Jan and another $100 from FEb ($200 total) and I'm getting ticked waiting for him to pay me back.


Yeaaa and lets not forget work. Every day is the same as the last, and it's so monotonous that I lose track of what day, week, and month it is. I have begun to inadvertently do everything I can to only be there on time in the morning, as opposed to my usual of getting to work early. I'm at a point where I about want to get fired just so I don't work there, but I'm too good at doing the job (and too proud to fail on purpose) that it'll take a lot to get fired. Further, this job has made me so angsty and disgusted that I don't even want to go to another job after this one (hence not looking for a new job.)

Everything just seems to NOT be going my way lately.
