A look back at the past decade...
General | Posted 6 years agoWell, a new decade is coming up. I'm amazed at how this decade of the 2010s (also known online as "the New Tens") went by fairly quickly compared to past decades. Again, it all comes from getting older. I've seen quite a few changes happen during this decade, not just to me, but to other people I know, places and other things as well. Let's look back at some of the noticeable things that happened with me through this past decade...
2010
Not much, except that I graduate college the first time with a Liberal Art Studies degree and start getting in some retail work. Oh, and I started the decade with a stomach bug, but luckily those go away really quickly, compared to the common cold!
I get to go to Six Flags New England for the very first time!
I begin to get more serious with model railroading; instead of just using roadbed-track on a grass mat and often changing the track plans to my liking and moving around buildings, I begin to try out nailing down track and doing permanent landscaping, on a 4x8 layout.
2011
Not a lot of good stuff this year, though. Especially near the end when I made one bad decision that got me grounded for what my dad said was an indeterminate amount of time. I really changed since then, and got more honest and well-meaning and much less of a risk-taker.
Oh, and I began helping out with some minor assistance with the Brockton Rox baseball team.
2012
My hometown of Brockton MA gets their first countdown pedestrian signals, and as the decade goes on they start to appear at more and more intersections across the city, especially now that they've gotten really popular with busy and/or dangerous intersections (I'm especially glad Belmont St. now has them at several intersections, including behind my old high school!)
I go to Six Flags New England for the second time, and haven't again since... but we'll see when I go back! (More on why in a bit.)
I raise three Monarch butterflies from eggs I find in the milkweed in our old garden.
I finally achieve a dream I've had since my teenage years: I become a performer for K-O the Kangaroo, mascot of the Brockton Rox! The staff is really impressed with how good I am, especially with the kids, and my family and friends are all proud of me.
2013
I begin doing Big Bad Wolf vlogs about Disney-related records, and as the years go on I also cover Disney-related cassettes and other wolf-related read-alongs!
I get the Spencer's Wile E. Coyote footed hoodie pajama suit, and it makes a great body costume to go with my Wile E. Coyote latex mask!
I start to really get into vinyl records, just in time for their comeback!
My paternal grandmother dies.
I partake in my first big mascot event, when K-O the Kangaroo visits Gilette Stadium for a New England Revolutions mascot night!
The first Rox season where I play K-O for all the games, and the last season with the old ownership.
I attend Boston Comic Con (now Fan Expo Boston) for the very first time, and have been going every year since!
My brother gets struck down with seizures and is unable to drive for a long time, making it a big strain on the whole family.
The first Downtown Fest in Brockton that I attend as K-O.
I start a job-training program in Boston, marking it the first time I am able to travel to the big city by train all by myself. A BIG step up for me!
2014
I start a maintenance associate job at Sprawlmart.
I get my first "Smart" device, an Apple iPod Touch 5G! Yeah, it took me that long to get one, but getting that job was a big help in being able to afford it.
I build my second model railroad layout of this decade, a 9x8 L-shape, and I start using DCC model train operation.
The Brockton Rox gets their current K-O the Kangaroo suit as part of the new ownership, and I am the first performer to work in it (since I'd be the go-to guy for off-season gigs.)
I start working on an improved cosplay of the Disney Big Bad Wolf, using a modified Disney Store Halloween costume that soon becomes the norm for the Wolf's body when I dress up as him.
I attend my first furry convention, the Maltese Fur Con in Boston! The con does not survive to happen a second year, unfortunately.
We adopt our current rescue dog, Sweetie.
2015
I attend the first Anthro New England, held in Cambridge MA, and have been going to said furry con ever since!
I attend Anime Boston for the first time, and have been going every year since!
I mourn the demise of the first fire alarms I ever heard in my life, when my first elementary school's original fire alarm system starts failing and has to be replaced.
I get fired from Sprawlmart, but re-hired by the Rox (taking advantage of my unfortunate situation!)
My family and I go on vacation to Old Orchard Beach, Maine!
I hit it off with a girl who knows my brother, and by the end of the decade we become good friends.
Rubies Costumes comes out with that neat full-head latex Scooby-Doo mask, and of course I buy one!
My final retail job, a seasonal position as a sales associate at Kohl's. I decide at that point that since I'm into computers, I will go back to college and get an I.T. degree!
2016
I finally get my first Smartphone, after making do with a flip-phone for quite some time.
I buy my current quad-core Mac Mini, which quickly becomes my main computer of choice!
I foray into fursuit construction, building a fursuit head of the Disney Big Bad Wolf, complete with movable jaw! Not bad for my first effort.
I go to DrawnCon in the new fursuit head, and start wearing it to every convention I go to since!
I start playing Pokémon GO! when it comes out.
I finally get my driver's license! I was in no hurry when I turned 16 back in 2004, but when my brother started having seizures and couldn't drive anymore, this prompted me to go for my license myself, and when I did, it was a BIG help for the family, because now I could drive my brother around instead of my parents having to do it all the time.
I start going back to college to go for a Computer Information Degree in User Support.
I go to my first furmeet, at King Richard's Faire.
2017
I begin having the Big Bad Wolf often rant about certain Disney topics on my YouTube channel, such as those live-action remakes.
Fan Expo Boston Comic Con moves from the World Seaport Trade Center to the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. It is that year I get to meet Jess Harnell and Jim Cummings!
My brother stays in a hospital for a couple weeks and has his final seizure to date.
We move out of the house I grew up in, and move onto a nicer and quieter side street.
2018
I am diagnosed with instigmatism and get prescription eyeglasses.
Because of moving to a new house, I build a new 11x8 L-shaped model railroad layout, my biggest and best to date!
Anthro New England moves to the Park Plaza Hotel in downtown Boston, making for a much easier commute!
I get a guest-spot on a college radio show, in character as the Big Bad Wolf!
The second Rox season where I am K-O for all the games, due to the smaller staff on hand and because I live much closer to the stadium now.
I build actual fursuit footpaws for my Big Bad Wolf cosplay!
I upload my 1,000th YouTube video!
One of my good male friends moves away to North Carolina, but we stay in touch online.
The "This is Life with Lisa Ling" episode about furries comes out, and me and my parents really enjoy it.
2019
The first year I stay overnight at a furry convention, with that year's Anthro New England, but just for one night to get a bit of experience, which proves to be successful.
K-O the Kangaroo visits Fenway Park in Boston for Wally the Green Monster's birthday!
The third Rox season where I am K-O for all the games, again due to the smaller staff.
I get my own first vehicle; a 2004 Jeep Liberty my mom handed down to me after she buys a new car. Then I also start driving on the highways!
I build my second fursuit, the new fursona that me and
blueeyedwolf co-developed: Zak Wolf!
I wrap up my final semester of classes for that I.T. degree, making the Dean's List each semester!
And there you have it. Quite a few accomplishments for me, both furry and non-furry. It will be interesting to see what the New 20s brings. In fact, that's what Anthro New England 2020's theme is going to be: The Roaring 20s! I already got pin-striped suspenders and a wide-brimmed matching fedora for Zak to wear at times to go with the con's theme. It'll also be the first convention I go to as Zak Wolf, and for that one I'm going to stay over two nights instead of one. Plus, now that I have completed my college Associate's Degree for Computer Information: User Support, that should make it easier for me to get a decent computer job that will provide me with an even better source of income, and life should get a whole lot better for me, along with my brother and parents. Then I can even start going to out-of-state furry conventions as well! Let's hope these goals do come into fruition soon!

Lisa Ling talks about furries!
General | Posted 7 years agoEarly last week, CNN aired a "This Is Life with Lisa Ling" episode that talks about furries; the fifth season finale no less! My parents watched it and I watched it with them; they found it pretty informative, being the parents of a furry. Overall, the episode gave a very positive and accurate portrayal of furries, breaking that sexual stereotype many people still associate them with. My parents already knew somewhat about the truth of furries, thanks to sharing my experiences with them, and then this Lisa Ling episode clinched it even more for them.
The show explained about how a lot of these furries often deal with anxiety in real life and may have social problems, and being a furry is a fun way to get away from it all and be more outgoing, especially as a fursuiter. Since I have Asperger's Syndrome, I could totally relate to this. I still do have some anxiety, often from bad memories of when I was in public school, though at least I've had numerous friends during those years and still keep in touch with many of them through FaceBook and such. And when I was working at Sprawlmart I had anxiety relating to the job. So the furry fandom was always a nice gateway for me.
I go into more detail here, with screencaps and other images...

General | Posted 7 years agoYep, today is the 85th anniversary of the release of Disney's Academy Award-winning Silly Symphony "Three Little Pigs," which introduced the Disney villain you frequently see me cosplay as: the Big Bad Wolf! So, to commemorate that, I remade the first YouTube record/cassette review I did over five years ago as the Big Bad Wolf, looking at the 1960s Disney Storyteller LP album "The Stories and Songs of Walt Disney's Three Little Pigs," narrated by Sterling Holloway!
https://www.youtube.com/embed/RMxf20YS7_A
Compare it with the original video from January 2013, with my more primitive Big Bad Wolf cosplay from back then, and the slightly lower video quality and my older bulkier stereo with a lightweight tonearm that was kind of prone to skipping, not to mention the much smaller record library seen. Sure has come a long way, doesn't it? I can't believe it's been that long now!

I need a Red Riding Hood for Anthro New England...
General | Posted 8 years agoAny fellow female Anthro New England fursuiters want to help partake in the masquerade sketch I have planned? I could use a Little Red Riding Hood, for the sketch where I (the Big Bad Wolf) dance and perform to this "Little Red Rappinghood" song from the 90s Disney album "Mickey Unrapped" (it's an old-school kind of rap), as heard here:

I've got a room reserved for Anthro New England 2018!
General | Posted 8 years agoYep, you read the title right! Come February, it will mark the first furry convention that I stay overnight at, with Anthro New England 2018! This year, they're relocating to the Boston Park Plaza hotel, which will be a MUCH easier trip for me. (I plan to go in via the MBTA, as I typically do.) Now, I am only going to stay for one night, from Saturday to Sunday (Feb. 24th to 25th), as my parents suggested I do so for my first overnight stay at a con, to kind of dip my feet into doing so. Additionally, I am going to be the only guest in the room, as my parents are still somewhat cautious about furry cons, but I've been able to stay out of trouble and have fun at them so far anyways (I think it's that "CSI" garbage that got to them.)
And yes, I'm still sticking with the Big Bad Wolf again this year, but I'm going to give him a little nautical costume of sorts (for our To the Sea theme), and I may even bring Reptar to stomp around for a bit!

I miss Danruk Rooface...
General | Posted 8 years agoI was really shocked by this news, and I didn't now about it until Monday evening when a friend of mine told me. Here's the news from a website (the URL is provided)...
"CONCORD - A Methuen, Mass. man may spend 17 years in a federal prison for producing child pornography under a plea agreement announced Wednesday.
According to acting U.S. Attorney John J. Farley, Matthew Adey, 47, met a 14-year-old Londonderry boy in an online chat group.
“The defendant, aware of the child's age, requested a photograph of the child engaging in sexually explicit conduct, which the child took and sent to the defendant.”
But Adey didn't stop there, according to investigators, he traveled to the child's New Hampshire home in March to have sex with the boy multiple times.
According to the plea deal, Adey will be subject to 10 years of supervised released when he gets out of prison and will have to register as a sex offender. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for December 21, 2017.
The investigation included participation from Londonderry Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, Homeland Security, Massachusetts Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force."
http://www.unionleader.com/article/.....WS03/170919619
I was really shocked and distraught by the news. Danruk seemed like such a nice guy, too! He was one of the first furry friends I made outside of the Internet, at the Maltese Fur Con in 2014...
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14154423/
I can't believe one of the first fursuiters I met in person turned out to be a child sex offender. It's just awful. At least I waited until I was at least 20 years old to go to a furry con (next month I turn 29). And my parents were warning me to be very careful at these cons, and I have so far. (I was able to prove to them the real cons I've been to, like Anthro New England every winter, are nothing like that CSI baloney.)
But yes, I'm going to miss Danruk, even with what happened. Even K-O the Kangaroo is distraught by this:

The end of Yahoo Messenger...
General | Posted 9 years agoWell, Yahoo Messenger is ending support for computer versions, i.e. on Windows and Mac, unless you use the crummy online version on the Yahoo Mail website.
Me and most of my other friends that used it have now switched over to Skype, so you can still find me there :)

A new Scooby-Doo mask! (UPDATE)
General | Posted 10 years agoSo last week I was doing some web browsing, and then I found a product that grabbed my interest that will be coming out soon...
http://www.entertainmentearth.com/p.....umber=RU68594#
Yup, the Rubies Costume Company is finally making a full-head latex Scooby-Doo mask!
I had been waiting for years for a costume company of some sort to make such a Scooby mask. Good timing too, given how worn out my cheap custom latex Scooby head looks now (you may have noticed in some of my recent pics.)
So far the photo seems to just be a mock-up or a prototype. But given its' price, and the quality of similar masks Rubies made/makes in that price range (like my "Mythical Dragon" latex mask), it'll probably be pretty good.
Right now it's available for pre-order, but so far only on that site. I already pre-ordered one, and it's expected to come out in July (I hope!)
As I would expectedly point out, it's also very similar to the 1969 Scooby-Doo episode "Never Ape an Ape Man" when the titular villain slips into a rubber Scooby mask and does the "phony mirror" routine with the real Scooby. I'm also considering actually doing a live reenactment video of that scene, with me playing both the Ape Man and Scooby-Doo! (via split-screen and chroma-key special effects)
Maybe this new Scooby-Doo will also make an appearance at the Maltese Fur Con
maltesefur-con this year, and this could also mean some changes to my Halloween plans (once I come up with them!) I'll still probably use my existing Scooby-Doo body costume with it. And I need to work on my Scooby-Doo voice some more too.
UPDATE: Here's what appears to be an actual photo of the mask itself. Still looks pretty good!

Where to find me in 2015!
General | Posted 11 years agoSo far, these are the conventions I am planning to go to this year...
Anthro New England in Cambridge, MA - February 27 to March 1 (
anthronewengland )
Anime Boston in Boston, MA - April 4 and 5
Boston Comic Con in Boston, MA - August 1
Maltese Fur Con in Waltham, MA - August 14 to 16 (
maltesefur-con )
So watch out for the Big Bad Wolf at these cons, or maybe if I have another fursuit by then, one of those. Also watch for Big Bad Wolf Daddy at the Anthro New England masquerade!

Maltese Fur Con, here I come!
General | Posted 11 years agoWell, I paid the registration fee for the Maltese Fur Con!
maltesefur-con It's less than two months away, and the registration deadline is this Saturday (June 14th.) Anyone who wants to go and see me there can register. I will be classified as a "Gumshoe" by the way I registered, so that should be interesting (since I'm a beginner to furry cons.)
Now to see if I can get a fursuit made in time. Or if not, expect to see a traditional 'toony zoot suit wolf there :D

Guess what's new?
General | Posted 11 years agoYep, I am posting a journal here again. Not my main journal here, but I've got some big news!
I learned that this August will be Boston's very first furry convention. It is apparently going to have a mystery theme to it...
http://maltesefurcon.com/
This is without a doubt going to be the first fur con I will be attending. I don't know if I will be staying at the hotel it's at (looks too expensive), but I can probably commute there the days it's happening. (August 1st to 3rd.) If I'm going to be K-O again this year for the Brockton Rox, I will have to arrange for a substitute performer on those days, possibly. (The Rox are only not playing August 2nd, according to the 2014 schedule.)
But by then I might have my OWN kangaroo fursuit I will bring to the con. (Still need to come up with his design... and I still need to learn to sew!) Or maybe I will be Bluebeard... or Walter Wolf of "Animaniacs"... or maybe Brain from "Inspector Gadget.." or I might just stick with the basics and be a Big Bad Wolf, or Wile E. Coyote or Scooby-Doo! (the latter will fit with the mystery theme!)
Anyone else want to go, to see me perform in a fursuit that isn't K-O the Kangaroo? ;) (I'd love to meet some of my furry friends in person!)

Halloween won't be long now...
General | Posted 17 years agoWell, it's autumn. I love the colors of the leaves on the trees, the brisk air... autumn in New England is better than autumn in any other part of the world. Plus, autumn is where my favorite holiday is: HALLOWEEN!
One thing I noticed about Halloween is how schools would celebrate it. In the olden days all the elementary schools would celebrate Halloween. They'd have all the students show up in costume, you'd all go onto the parking lot or school gym and march around to show off your costumes to who knows.
Today, not many schools celebrate Halloween. But in my city, many of the elementary and pre-K schools do. The school I attended for grades 1-6 had the first three grades parade around the school in costume, the upper grades would not wear costumes (I think they wanted to make us fourth, fifth and sixth graders more "grown-up" and "mature"). My high school had a "Halloween Costume Benefit;" you'd pay a quarter or whatever to get this sticker and you would wear your costume to school that day. But they didn't allow masks, and they also didn't have dances or parties or whatever.
My college celebrates Halloween though, and they let you wear your costume to school that day (you don't even have to pay anything to do so!) and they DO allow masks, and even better, in the middle of the day they throw a Halloween party in the student center building! I love attending that at my college every year.
Remember all those prime-time animated Halloween specials you'd see on the three main TV networks in the 70s and 80s? You would see the Peanuts gang, Garfield, Bugs Bunny, and others celebrating Halloween. And when Cartoon Network was still good back in the 1990s and early 2000s, you would see a lot of Scooby-Doo cartoons. With the exception of "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!" they don't do that anymore. And CN has gone down the drain and is evolving into a Scooby-free network and now has "Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy" as their Halloween spokestoon.
And due to religious problems or whatever, some towns don't even celebrate Halloween or allow trick-or-treating anymore! How bad is that? Luckily, my town still does! And I make it fun while it lasts.
And another thing I have noticed about Halloween are the different kind of people answering the doors for the trick-or-treaters on Halloween night...
First, there are the basic no-frilles sort of people that have regular mini-sized candy bars, etc, to give out on Halloween. Some of them have lavishly-decorated porches, others don't. And they very rarely wear Halloween clothes either. They often have to rush home from work to get ready for all those kids.
Second, there are the people that can't afford candy or are concerned about obesity in America, and instead hand out apples. Personally, I don't mind getting an apple or two on Halloween, but I know some kids HATE it.
Third, there are people who didn't buy any candy and aren't prepared at all, so they hide and lock the doors and shut the porch lights off until Halloween is over.
Fourth, there would be the house where maybe a dentist or orthodontist or whatever lived, and he or she would give out toothbrushes or sugar-free pieces of candy.
Fifth, there would be some people who take Halloween too far, and they'd decorate the house like crazy and would dress up in a costume or mask of some sort in an attempt to scare the kids when giving them the candy. Sometimes the whole family in that house would dress up in costume!
Sixth, there would be someone who made homeade treats like popcorn balls or cookies or candied apples, and in the olden days your mother would tell you to throw that stuff away cause she thinks it might've been poisoned just for a little fun.
Seventh, there would be the house where they had large full-sized candy bars. Everyone wanted to go there on Halloween night.
But me, I am not like any of those types. What I do when handing out candy, is that I DO answer the door in costume, but I never wear anything scary. I always dress up like an animal or a cartoon character, usually something either friendly or goofy or cartoonish. And I hand out the candy to the kids, like they expect the people at the houses to. I try to put a little fun and laughter into their night. Hopefully in the future if I still live in this house, the kids will recognize this place where "the guy with all those 'toon masks hands out the candy on Halloween!"
Yep, even though my trick-or-treating days are practically over, I still love Halloween because I can still dress up in costume to hand out candy and attend Halloween parties! And this year will be no different, thanks to my new Big Bad Wolf mask!

My new wolf mask!
General | Posted 17 years agoToday I just got this awesome Big Bad Wolf mask off eBay. It is a latex mask of the wolf from the old Disney cartoons and is made by Don Post. I've never been so yiffy wearing a mask that isn't Wile E! You will shortly see pics of this mask very soon. And I guess you could say it could help unleash the wolf inside me ;)
Summer is here!
General | Posted 17 years agoYep. Last Sunday I got to see K-O the Kangaroo again, thanks to the Brockton Rox season starting up. Trust me, if you met K-O in person and hugged him, you'd like him too, especially if you are a furry.
But I am also nervous about my college grades. I didn't do so well on the last couple of tests on my History class, and I studied the wrong notes for one part of my final (but I knew several of the things on the exam thankfully). But I think I did a good job on the essay I turned in... I hope. If I have a C- or lower on my report card, I'm DOOMED! *add dramatic echo to the word "doomed"*
