Computer issues
Posted 8 years agoSo the 15 year old tube monitor I had for my screenless laptop came down with a case of the "Caught on fires" leaving me without a work computer.
Kinda threw a hitch into the wagon gears' wrench.
Or something.
Patreon and gallery updates will get back on track soon as possible.
Boop boop terminating awkwardly typed mobile device message.

A death in the family
Posted 8 years agoOn May 18th 2017, my dog Tara passed away. She was 13 years old.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2064569/
I can't put into words how this feels. I can't even describe her in a way that feels even close to fitting. Been trying to for a month now, and this is as close as I've gotten.
And typing through tears is difficult.
I wish I could describe her here. Every single person who ever met her commented on that brilliant, wonderful, intelligent personality of hers.
It still rips and tears every time I round a corner in the house, and she's not there. Every day it seems I think I hear her howl for a walk, or wonder why she hasn't yet.
What made this so hard to type out... Was how, final it makes everything.
This hurts, and I miss her so very, very much.
...
She'll be in my heart for the rest of my days.
She was a Good Dog.
...
When you see your critters next, give 'em a hug for me, and tell 'em how much they mean to you.

So, a little backstory:
AKA: you can skip this.
Finished this page only a few months after Chapter 1 had wrapped up (back in 2013), but didn't want to post it until a page 2, and the rest of this chapter, had been finished and plotted out, respectively.
Unfortunately, life took a big steaming "NO" on me, which promptly splattered and smeared all over my projects, plans, dreams...
Lost most of my script/storyboard for Interlude #1 to the flood I've mentioned earlier. But Birdsongs had other problems; the living situation I was in at the time was untenable and toxic, which played no small part in me all-but disappearing from active posting for several years. The flood wan't the only thing holding off projects; mold/mildew, periodic minor flooding of workspace, swarms of flies shitting all over, rodent-gnawing, all played a part in hampering/destroying projects and commissions I was trying to work on. Most of the projects that survived were ones I had to keep packed away for the duration, to keep them safe.
Still trying hard to recover from all that. Hasn't been easy.
Not even easy to mention it, really.
Page 2 for this Interlude chapter is also finished, and ready for posting. It was drawn up about two years ago, and between physical/digital repairs, updating the style a bit, rewriting the dialog from scraps of flood-damaged script and old scans, and just finishing the damn thing, it took an inordinate amount of time to get ready.
And while I'm still trying to get re-settled (after a year; really brings home how much harm my art career and personality suffered from all that nonsense, eheh :x) page 3 is started and coming along as smoothly as expected.
Yay!

Welcome to the Clusterfuck, y'all!
Posted 10 years ago*rubs his face, trying not to look embarrassed*
So... Where to begin.
2015, the past five months, have been a barely-mitigated clusterfuck for me. Let's explore these quirky pitfalls in life in an orderly fashion, shall we?
Okay, firstly. For the first three months of the year, due to a fuck-up (or seven) in the local bureaucracy I had my "I'm too poor to feed myself"-stamps suspended. So, for about three months I was living off about 250-500 calories a day on average, sometimes going a day or two between meals. (Luckily, I'd 'saved' up some winter-fat, so no long-term effects other then I got skinny again) To those of you who've never put up with real hunger, one of the first things to go is your ability to think straight (human brain alone requires about 500 calories/day to function right). Soooo, yeah, thee months of almost-no creative output for me. Kinda took a hit to the (already tiny) bank on that one.
Second. This resulted in me not being able to afford my prescription. For brain-things. I'd get partial refills here and there, but the yo-yoing and 'off-times' made it too hard to focus on -anything- productive, much less work. I'm -still- stuck in this situation, and it's a self-feeding downward spiral :D
Third. Say, ever thought about how amazing it'd be if you were subjected to psychological and verbal abuse on a daily basis for four years? From some narcissistic jack-ass who seems to take pleasure in causing you duress at every turn, and constantly vies to try and shit on your life out of nothing but bitterness and spite? No? Yeah, neither did I. :D Use to be easier to ignore before my prescription money ran out...
Fourth. I've been working hard on trying to set up a Patreon for the past three months. Taking time between paying work, where I can, to build up a little art for it (both decorative and buffer-material for potential patrons), since I haven't had much of any recent public work to show off for you guys.
Since I haven't made a Patreon post on here, you can imagine how well it's gone.
Us here in the south-central USA are sorta-kinda, underwater atm. I've already lost one art-piece to pooling water so far, which has set my Patreon project back a little bit. Plus the constant hiding under cushions from tornadoes, protecting the house from flash-floods...
Things -are- progressing. It's just slow.
And a touch difficult.
And I'm leaving out quite a bit.
But I hope that you folks understand. Specially everyone in my commission backlog... Typing this out for you folks is embarrassing, but I feel I kinda needed to fill in my watchers on here, for what it's worth.
Hopefully my next journal will be a link to my Patreon.

Seagull Prophet has opened Felt Commissions!!
Posted 11 years agoMy girlfriend
seagullprophet has opened up commission slots for her amazing hand-crafted felt work!!
Check this ship out: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6413619/
She's opened slots for everything from custom felt con-badges, "Badge Buddies" (tiny felt version of yer fursona/character that hangs from yer badge), to mini-plushies and even traditional sketchwork and furry cross-stitches :D
From a totally objective point, you guize, her stuff is amazing. She's done work for a couple well-known people in the fandom (I won't name-drop, 'cause that's tacky... But they are in her Gallery, just so ya'know)
Speaking of... Check her work out for yourself if you don't believe me: http://www.furaffinity.net/gallery/seagullprophet/
Also, she doesn't open up for slots often, so jump on this while you can!!

Welcome back, me.
Posted 11 years agoHowdy everybody,
So far as projects and personal matters go, I've had a cluster-fuck of a year so far. Sorry for not posting more (and apologies to some of my commissioners/Birdsongs fans), but between a particularly devastating HDD crash (days before my scheduled two-month cloud backup), the loss of an old friend (
kiatsu), and an inability to stay on my meds ( http://i383.photobucket.com/albums/.....per/cuckoo.gif ) I've either been working on recovering months of lost data (while loosing an equal amount of time waiting on data recovery) or unable to muster up enough mental steam to work on anything beyond my private commission queue.
Birdsongs has two full pages painted up and ready, but all my scripts/story notes were on that drive. Soon as I get that data back, Birdsongs will be back on track.
My tabletop RPG project,
starcaptains was also on hold while waiting on data recovery. The project was never in danger from this data crash (I -do- occasionally back up my crap, so worse-case I would've only lost a few months of progress). Before the crash, I'd begun recruiting for artists to provide initial artwork for the crowd-funding campaign. Past some tedious GM book material, the game itself is ready. All I need are some pretty pretty pictures to gussy up the money-begging stage of the project. But, I'll get more into that in another journal.
There were some non-furry projects also set back by the HDD crash, but nothing relevant to FA. Really, only bother to mention them to explain my quiet on here from before the crash... Go quiet to spend several months on multiple projects, only to have those projects temporarily 'lost' literally days before completion... Leads to a lot of quiet, I guess.
As for my public commissioners, I apologize for the wait. I've gotten back on track with working on my queue, as things seem to finally be settling down. One of the commissions in my queue is for my departed friend. He'd only gotten a chance to pay for half his piece before medical bills took priority for him... I'll be completing it for him, whenever I can. There was at least one commission (past-due con homework) that I'd apparently never posted, and who's scan is sitting on that HDD. I promise I'll get that one posted soon as I'm able.
I haven't even worked a single con yet this year (although I will be attending/working Oklacon in a couple weeks), so there hasn't even been scan-backs or con sketches for me to post... Plus, I underestimated how much of my yearly income comes from working cons <.< Which made it harder to attend cons... And so on.
One last thing; a shout-out to my girl
seagullprophet, who's helped me through all this nonsense, and was instrumental in getting my freelance business up and running again. She's the King of Awesome, and I love her, totes realzies.

Star Captains (tm) Page Update!
Posted 12 years agoI've been neglecting the heck out of the Star Captains™ page for months. Not for a lack of new material, but for an abundance of lazy <.<
Weekly play-testing is still going, and the game itself is of course receiving near-constant development, and blah blah blah oh look a spaceship!
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10300225/
There's actually a whole pile of ship designs I haven't even scanned in yet. Might get on that.
In other news; the final page of the first Birdsongs chapter is just about complete! It'll be going up as soon as I'm finished with it, thanks in no small part to all the awesome supporters who've donated :3

Star Captains (tm) Preview #14 - History: Zxaah-Fae Wars
Posted 13 years ago>>>>> Cross-Post from

Well the

For those of you following us on here, Star Captains ™ is still under active development! It's just most of the work being done currently is writing out GM-material, forming the 'bestiary' of example NPCs, and of course loads of play-testing.
The one thing that I haven't had time to work on has been any of the artwork, hence the ghost-town quality of the FA page. (There's several ship designs fully sketched out, that I just haven't had time to scan in and splice together. Hopefully I'll be getting some of those up soon)
So, while it's not very visually-stimulating, I've put up another chunk of the History section to hopefully keep you folks interested:

Also, updated the icon! Woo!

Details here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3884821
He's not looking for a hand-out. With enough donations, he'll be posting both a male and a female themed pin-up portfolio. Also he's taking commissions and selling originals of basically all of his uploaded artwork.
Any little bit helps.

Donation goal for BIRDSONGS this month met, and THEN SOME!!
Posted 13 years agoJust.
Wow.
You folks really like bird porn :3
Not only have I received enough donations to post the next page, but for the NEXT page as well!! Which, well while page 15 isn't completed yet, means both that it will be posted the -moment- it is finished, but I'll post some Birdsongs-related sketches in the meantime as a token of thanks!!
Just, wow.
Also, one of the donators provided -more- than enough to warrent a free sketch but didn't provide a corresponding FA message. If, beautiful-wonderful-person, you'd like to claim your Birdsongs-themed sketch, send me a note on here with either your name or your initials (whichever you're more comfortable with, since I know some folks are twitchy about the notes on here) so I can confirm. The donator in question's last name begins with an "M".
I'll be posting the new page soon as I'm home from work in a couple hours :>

Also, one of the donators provided -more- than enough to warrent a free sketch but didn't provide a corresponding FA message. If, beautiful-wonderful-person, you'd like to claim your Birdsongs-themed sketch, send me a note on here with either your name or your initials (whichever you're more comfortable with, since I know some folks are twitchy about the notes on here) so I can confirm. The donator in question's last name begins with an "M".
I'll be posting the new page soon as I'm home from work in a couple hours :>

Hello again, folks! This week we look at the AV-1 Buzzard-class Corvette; a sleek, maneuverable ship designed by the avians to put the zip-zams in your photon-whizzoos!* Buckaw!

Next update? Yeah probably more ships. I'm building up quite the back-log of finished designs! Going to try and squeeze in some species page art in the next few weeks, and hey the more questions you guys ask the quicker the FAQ will be complete! See you in two weeks, captains!
