So, I mentioned awhile back I'd be eventually starting up "Birdsongs" again, but the only way I could afford to devote any time to it while going through my apprenticeship I'd have to do it for donations.

Well! That time has come. The next page of "Birdsongs" is ready, and all pages from here in will be posted as soon as a pre-set donation goal is reached. Each page will be done in watercolor paints, and unlike the earlier pages the layouts and lettering will be done with at least some pretense of professionalism ;P

Now, let's be honest, it's a fap comic. As much as there will (eventually) be an overarching story, "Birdsongs" is mostly about small woodland birds putting dicks in each other for our amusement. Keeping that in mind, pages without sexy-times will take less in donations before I release them from the dirty, greedy clutch of my talons. It seems only fair, and I suspect nobody would donate if I did it otherwise <.<

So, month and a half break. Longer than intended.

I had originally started these updates with a structured plan in mind:

But even though I have the history for the next update written up, I haven't had time to work on the little concept art I want to tack on to the update. And, I was too stubborn to break the update structure, even though I have quite a few ships already drawn up that I could've used to keep the updates semi-regular while I'm going through this busy-period.

So, nuts to that. Every-other-week I'll go ahead and post the preview updates with just ships until things get less crazy around here. No more huge black-outs for Star Captains ™ for the time being :D

Next update, I have no idea. It'll be a ship, I know that!

Actually, got back yesterday.

But still.

Had a blast at the con, both hanging out with my Oklahoma friends and meeting up with all my friends from elsewhere. People touched my beard. It was great.

There was some trouble, but we dealt with it and everything seems to be back on track.

So, why have I been so quiet and slow on commission updates lately?

Basically the tattoo shop I'm apprenticed under had to move at the end of December/beginning of January. This included renovating the interior of the place they were moving to. I got to help with most of it, spending most of my time up there to get the new place ready as soon as possible...

Like, all of my time.

Now that we've got the new shop up and running though, things haven't slowed down much for me. They're still trying to get everything squared away, and with tax season swiftly approaching (which is the busiest time of year in the tattoo industry) I basically have almost no time to myself anymore. Last week, I logged over 80 hours at the shop, with very little time to work on my own art.

My mentor and the guy that own the shop know I pay the bills with my art commissions, so they're going to try to make concessions, but still with the time spent renovating and with all my free time for the next few months already promised to the shop I've already had to put several art projects on hold until further notice (including the preview updates for  star_captains).

So, my current goal is to clear through my public commissions (which, was something I had to put aside for the past two months, what with the move and all that) with what little time I have per week to myself, and then focus on my private commission queue (which is honestly what pays the bills, you lovable perverts <3) and hopefully get back to the Star Captains work as soon as possible.

One last thing: A lot of folks have been asking about Birdsongs. Sadly since I've been working on my apprenticeship I haven't had much time for my non-pay projects, and I simply haven't been able to work on my comic. However, as soon as I get my public queue cleared I plan on setting up donations for Birdsongs so I can justify devoting what little free time I have to it. Basically when the donations reach a certain amount (not sure what, yet) I'll drop everything and crank out a page swift as a swallow. That way, time spent on Birdsongs can help me do things like.... Eat. Pay rent. Not die. Etc.

Hi again folks!

This week's Star Captains™ preview takes a look at the Victory-class Battleship: an ancient but reliable fleet ship from before the days of warp travel (retro-fitted for the modern captain, of course).

Unfortunately, the weekly preview updates will have to go on hold for a little while whilst I catch up on my public commission queue. I simply don't have the time to work on them and maintain everything else I have going on right now (which includes proper Star Captains™ development). After my public commissions are cleared (hopefully no more than a couple weeks, a month tops) the updates will resume on schedule. Don't worry, the Star Captains™ page will stay active. I have plenty of bits of random concept sketches to keep everybody occupied during the hiatus!

Now, when the updates DO resume we'll be looping back around to History, with the "Foundation of the Zxaah Empire" (one of the major non-Terran alien factions in the SC universe). Stay tuned for other updates in the meantime!

This week's update continues the known-history of the Star Captains ™ game setting with the "Age of the Builders". I know, more tedious tl;dr reading, but hey there's some snazzy concept art to go with it!

One of the main reasons why this update was put off for a week was 'cause I realized all of the concept art for the Havens was on notebook paper... So I whipped up some nice colored pieces to go along with the history.

Hopefully the holidays wont interfere with the update schedule, but if they do I'll post some more concept sketches to fill the void. For the next preview update, we'll be taking a look at one of the two playable avian species, the Aquila! Stay tuned, folks!

Well, that was quick.

Seems like every time I check over the next update, I find something that I need to tweak/edit, or I don't like the older concept art I have for something so I redesign/draw it again from scratch. It's fantastic for development, but not-so-great for getting these preview updates out on time :P

As it stands, however, we're on schedule for next week's update, which will be part two of the History section: "Age of the Builders" More exciting reading ahead for you all! Stay tuned!

Posted the latest preview update last night. Granted, it was a couple days late (and a week, if I don't count the miniature picture posted last week as an update, which I am <.<) but the material I had written up on the tech-levels was almost two years old, sparse, and horribly out-of-date. Various other things contributed to the tardiness this time around, but the next couple updates are composed entirely of pre-existing concept art and in-game info so they should be on time.

Next week, we cook a *caw*ing starship. 8[ The SF-3 Star Eagle to be exact. I already posted some paper-minis made up of that particular ship hull, but next update we'll be seeing some actual concept art of the ship, along with a more detailed history/description.

I've posted a few pictures to the "Star Captains: ASTRA-TG"™ FA page  starcaptains

They're all scans of paper miniatures I've made for my play-testers. Other than an excuse to update they're a good example of the paper miniature templates that will come with Star Captains™ when its put to print.

Hopefully after Oklacon this coming week I can begin my intended regiment of regular weekly updates to the page of concept art, history and lore, and general FAQ-esk material for you folks.
