Surprise, I am transgender!
Posted 7 years agoWell, it’s been a while since my last journal.
Today’s a bit of an occasion. Today marks 3 months on Hormone Replacement Therapy!!
Surprise, I am transgender. Or as I like to say, a transfeminine work-in-progress!
I’ve spent the last year figuring out what being transgender means by making as many transgender friends as possible, asking them way too many questions to try and understand if this is true for me. And I’ve met some incredibly gracious and beautiful people and I’ve learned so much.
Currently I’m still very early on my journey. I still appear pretty masculine (though I’ve been trying to lean into the femboy ideal for a while). I’m still undergoing lots of changes. I’m going by all of the pronouns. Right now I’d consider myself to be somewhat non-binary, somewhere on the gender spectrum between the middle and female.
But I guess the biggest thing for me is I’ve embraced the unknown. There are things I was scared of in the past, things I’ll probably be scared of in the future. But ultimately every revelation and change has been positive and I feel more comfortable and at peace with myself in a way I never was before.
And that’s amazing and exciting and why even though I still feel that I’m early in my transition, I can’t stop talking about it. Discovering my gender identity has improved so much of my life that I couldn’t keep it a secret.
So here I am. My friends call me Gal. And I am transgender. She/He/They.

Thoughts on top games 2016[PC] - No Man's Sky [6/7]
Posted 9 years agoDay 6 of looking at my most memorable games of 2016 (that I played through Steam).
You can learn more about any of these games by clicking on the title. If something catches your interest, give it a try and support developers that are trying something new!
No Man's Sky
I am a huge fan of games that let me explore an interesting environment (which is no doubt apparent from some of the games on this list), and I have absolutely adored my time in No Man’s Sky. Soon after I started the game, I found a beautiful purple moon I decided to call home. I built a home base where I could easily see the looming, blue planet I was orbiting on the horizon and set about the world, recording every plant and every animal I found in an effort to catalog my new home.
The amount of freedom can be daunting at first, but once you start recruiting specialists to work in your base, it’s easy to get quests from them and set to the stars, looking for some rare mineral or overfeeding animals until they poop a rare resource you need.
The variety of planets you encounter and simply having the opportunity to explore lots of exotic locations without being completely prepared is exciting. When I’ve found myself on an icy, rugged planet and realize I’ve strayed too far from my ship and have to carve a cave into a mineral deposit to wait out the blizzard, then see the snow clear for a beautiful sunrise over the mountaintops, I can’t help but love this game.
Please share your thoughts in the comments below and if there's a game that was really memorable for you this year, please make a journal and link it in the comments so I can give it a read!

Thoughts on top games 2016[PC] - Oxenfree [5/7]

Oxenfree
It’s difficult to pinpoint why this game stuck with me. The characters aren’t particularly memorable for me and the game is mechanically simple. However the music and dialogue and overarching narrative create such a strong atmosphere that even though I’ve only played it once and haven’t booted the game up again, I still remember the creepy abandoned house and the way game’s haunts make you question your own sense of agency while trying to stop a mysterious force from terrorizing you and your friends.
All the puzzles in Oxenfree have to do with environmental traversal or tuning a radio you’re holding to the correct frequency. The rest of the game is simply talking to the characters in real-time conversations using three buttons. This leaves you free to walk around and explore while talking to the characters, and the smart dialogue system allows you to interrupt people to bring up different topics and when that line of query is finished, the voice acting gracefully returns to the previous topic. It’s well done enough that if you’re not paying attention you might not even notice that’s what’s happening.

You can learn more about any of these games by clicking on the title. If something catches your interest, give it a try and support developers that are trying something new!
Quadrilateral Cowboy
QuadCow is a first-person puzzle game where you plan out and execute heists in a cyberpunk future. You're given a job, you grab your supplies, and you jump into a virtual simulation of the heist, carrying with you a computer in a suitcase. At any time you can pull it out and, using simple text commands, type out short programs to turn off alarms, open doors, control remotely controlled sniper rifles, and more to help you on your heist.
Nothing is more satisfying than realizing what you need to do and creating a long sequence of commands and having it execute smoothly. For example, you can deploy a remote sniper in a window, walk around the building, place down a couple of crt monitors and your laptop, tell the sniper to aim at a door button, set a command to have it fire, then shut off a laser grid for 2 seconds, then execute it so the sniper fires, the door opens, the laser grid drops, and gives you just enough time to slip in undetected.
If you have any interest in programming or playing a game that makes you feel like a real hacker, give Quadrilateral Cowboy a look.

Inside
Inside is one of the most restrained games I've played this year (a common theme across many of the games in this list). The colors are dulled, the sound is a bit muted, without dialogue or any direction other than the platforming paradigm to keep moving right. Along the way, you solve puzzles by manipulating physics in the world and smartly evading capture and death from wild pigs, dogs, mysterious men reminiscent of the opening scene of E.T., and more.
The story isn't clear and left me with lots of questions, but that mystique along with the environments and deliberate pacing has kept me thinking about it for the rest of the year.

Superhot
BODIES ARE DISPOSABLE
MIND IS SOFTWARE
Enter Superhot.exe, a hacked game from a company server where "time moves when you move". Every action moves time forward so a firefight becomes a type of first-person bullet hell puzzle game. The controls are also really tight, allowing you to punch a guy, catch his pistol, toss it to another guy behind you, grab his katana, spin around to cut a guy in half, then toss it across the room at the guy with the machine gun across the room through a window.
The visuals reflect that mechanical tightness, with noninteractive walls and environments textured white, interactive weapons and objects colored black, and enemies colored red. Similar to Firewatch, the game's campaign can be completed in an evening, but completion unlocks endless and challenge modes that have had me shooting and stabbing for another 40 hours.
My favorite of the challenge modes was the Speedrun mode: Every level has a goal time and the clock moves based on time in the game, slowing down and speeding up with every move. This completely changes the way you played each level before, optimizing your route and the order in which you kill enemies to achieve the Red Time! There are even more secrets to find beyond those that I'll leave for you to explore.

Thoughts on top games 2016[PC] - Firewatch [1/7]
Posted 9 years agoHello beautiful bros and lovely friends: every day this week I'm going to share some thoughts about one of my most memorable games of 2016 (that I played through Steam). I rarely do these retrospective things because I have trouble remembering everything I played in a year, but these are all things I'm still thinking about by the end and I played them all on Steam. So there's some categorization.
You can learn more about any of these games by clicking on the title. If something catches your interest, give it a try and support developers that are trying something new!
Firewatch
One of the most striking things about Firewatch, other than the incredible writing and acting, is how by the end of the game you know your way around your sector of the Shoshone forest. The game gives you a generous map in your hand, a compass, a radio, and trusts you to find your way around. Without having a mini-map in the corner of the screen, you end up looking for landmarks and internalizing the world, which is just fantastic.
There are few games apart from the ones I played as a kid that asked me to pay attention like this, and as a result it brings back some of the feelings I had navigating the world of Pokemon in Pokemon Red on the Game Boy, which had a very low fidelity map and demanded that you learn the layout of most of its world to succeed.
The world of Firewatch is beautiful, and you'll want to take pictures with the little disposable camera the game gives you. The characters of Firewatch are beautiful and feel real in the way they talk to each other and the struggles they face. Firewatch respects your intelligence and your time. Look no further for an engrossing evening of gaming.

Join the Final Round shennanigans, VOTE NYXIS THE BAT!
Posted 10 years agoHey everybody! My friend defiance is asking for your vote to win in a comic contest. The winner gets a 6-page NSFW comic for their character! Here's her message to you below!!!
HURRY and vote before the clock strikes 6PM EST TOMORROW(6/23/15 Tuesday)! If Nyxis wins, there will be chances to get your character in on the piece as a cameo too!
Wait, what's happening?
A fun experience and experiment! Defiance entered her usually SFW bat character Nyxis into a contest for a 6-page NSFW folio, and she's made it to the final round of voting and needs your help! YOU WANT THE FANSERVICE, YOU LOVE THE SHENNANIGANS, GET IN THE RING AND HELP HER FIGHT!
So what do I do?
VISIT THIS LINK TO VOTE:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16899974/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16899974/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16899974/
And cast your vote for Nyxis and a theme of your choice!
Here is a little more on our lovely contestant from Defiance (And the theme she would personally like to see win, Asexual Empowerment!):
Nyxis is an akoiromantic; the fact that she falls in love with ideas(talent, success, the far-off prince or runaway princess archtype, or even the idea of love) instead of people and has a sex drive but finds it inconveniencing more than anything else, places her on the asexual spectrum.
I thought it would be interesting to see artwork of Nyxis expressing this sexuality/romanticism that I have rarely seen in not-safe-for-work images, or in much media at all.
So what I want to know is, is that even possible? Is it possible to show that she as an asexual can still be sexy and empowered, implicitly and self-evident in art like this? That's a huge concept; perhaps it has been a rare one because few have thought of ways to express it.
But if Nyxis wins, I'm going to push for this idea. If she wins, I am confident that Caribou's folio will at the most make a powerful statement, and at the least, be tasteful.

Hey fuzzies!
My bat friend

Hey, everyone! I am looking for volunteers to participate in an online survey on human perception in virtual reality. The broader goal is to improve the development and design of virtual reality applications. Your participation will involve answering questions about your perception of 3D models.
The amount of time required for your participation would be approximately 10 minutes. If you have a few minutes, please take the survey here: http://people.clemson.edu/~lorrain/.....nts/survey.php
If you have any questions, please email Lorraine Lin at Lorrain[at]clemson.edu with the subject line “Virtual Reality Survey.”

s0b: "Hm... Yeah, that never happened to me."
defiance: "It'd be different for you because you're a dude."
s0b: "... Gal's a dude too."
defiance: "Oh my god I forgot!"
Only the best of friends forget your gender.
I love you guys. X3

It's the end of the semester! I know lots of my friends are cramming in their last, hopeful for the freedom of Summer!

My project was a two-person group with the task of developing a mod that accomplished the goals I wrote in a proposal for Skyrim: Survival Mode. We were given roughly two weeks to build it so we only accomplished on developing about a third of our vision. I still think our final product succeeded in our goal though. I wanted to encourage players to try out different styles of gameplay and for the mod to direct the player's focus to the emergent systems in the open world of Skyrim that are underutilized in the main quest.
I worked like mad on our presentation video (8 hours straight) and I feel pretty proud of it. Let me know what you think in the comments below~
Also shoutout to

Without further ado, here is my presentation video: [YOU CAN WATCH IT AT 60FPS IF YOU WATCH IT ON YOUTUBE!!!]

Back to work so soon!
My friend Ayush and I are working on our final project for CPSC 4820/6820 class and we are developing a Survival Mode for Skyrim.
This video isn't much but if you're interested in seeing a little gameplay of us testing out different features we're developing, give it a look. We'll be presenting this video in class tomorrow and talking about what we've completed thus far and what we plan on implementing next.
