FursuitSupplies updates, and a Kickstarter? (poll inside)
Posted 10 years agoHello all!
I realize I haven't posted a journal in quite a while. Been dealing with a lot in my personal life and business life as well. I'm trying to make some big improvements to the business for 2015, and wanted to highlight what we're working on for this year:
Fixing the issue of being almost constantly out of stock of popular fabrics.
This has been a constant issue as the business has been growing and I've been working to address it. It's been very difficult to keep up with the growth. I've been working hard on securing some external funding that will allow us to carry more inventory and hopefully have less of this continuing problem. I think we're getting close, and hopefully we'll be able to better keep up with stock levels in the coming months.
Offering premade fursuit parts (claws, eyes, noses, etc) again
We're working on fine-tuning our 3D printer and laser cutter so that we can start offering parts again. We haven't sold these in quite some time. As soon as we can get all of this stuff working, we'll be offering 3D printed noses, claws, and more, as well as laser-cut toony eye blanks and potentially even fursuit-sized dog tags and laser-engraved badges.
Now, for potentially the most important thing...Bringing new styles of solid-color furs to the fandom.
Right now everybody is stuck more or less using DF shag, which is something I know a lot of people want to see change. This is something I've been wanting to do for quite some time - we've already done it a couple of times (with all of your help, of course), but I think it would be great to have not just one new color, but a BUNCH of new fabrics made up. Sadly, the funding we're looking at getting won't do much more than allow us to stock more of our current lineup. This is where the kickstarter/indiegogo campaign comes in. I've drawn up a rough draft of what this would look like. We'd either try to have made several new colors of Luxury Fox or several new colors of Flokati Shag, depending on what you guys are most interested in. They would all be natural colors (black, white, gray, silver, brown, camel, caramel, ivory) since these are our best-sellers in the standard DF shag. We'd have a number of perk levels ranging from a simple $1 donation to one roll of each color of the new furs, and each level would come with some fun goodies besides just the fur :)
Is this something you all would be interested in, and if so, would you rather see us make a bunch of colors for
Luxury Fox: http://fursuitsupplies.com/index.ph.....amp;path=35_66
or

These are the main things we're working on right now, but lots more changes are coming this year. Hope to make 2015 the best year yet!

Looking to commission some icons :D
Posted 11 years agoAfter all the stuff I just went through, I'm trying to get sort of a fresh start. Might seem like sort of a silly/small thing to do as far as "fresh starts" are concerned, but I'd really like to get some new icons for my various online accounts. I've been using this sketch I doodled at furlaxation 2013 since early this year and I'd love something new. I don't really follow a lot of artists, so if you're open for such commissions, I'd love to see some examples!
Con Schedule Late 2014-Early 2015 (seeking hotel roommates)
Posted 11 years agoIn case any of you were wondering, here's my con schedule for the next 5 or so months. :3 I'm dealing at all of these (either as FursuitSupplies or Faux Paw Fashions):
Anime Weekend Atlanta 2014 (Dealing as Faux Paw Fashions)
Fur Reality 2014 (Dealing as FursuitSupplies.com)
Furpocalypse 2014 (Dealing as Faux Paw Fashions)
Nekocon 2014 (Dealing as Faux Paw Fashions)
Midwest Fur Fest 2014 (Dealing as FursuitSupplies.com)
Further Confusion 2015 (Dealing as Faux Paw Fashions)
Furry Fiesta 2015 (Dealing as FursuitSupplies.com)
ROFCon 2015 (Dealing as Faux Paw Fashions)
Furry Weekend Atlanta 2015 (Dealing as FursuitSupplies.com)
As the journal title states, I am seeking roommates for both Further Confusion and Texas Furry Fiesta. These cons are pretty far away from me, so I don't currently know anyone who goes to them. Looking for potentially 2-3 other people to share the room with for each con. If anybody is seeking a room for either of these cons, please feel free to contact me and we can discuss. I have rooms booked already for both cons from Thursday night through Monday morning.

Trying times
Posted 11 years agoI'm not going to go into detail, but I've been having a pretty seriously hard time here lately. Suffice to say I went through a fairly traumatic life event and am currently in the recovery stages. Normally this isn't the kind of thing I'd write a journal about, but I'm having a lot of trouble sleeping at night/frequently feeling ill and as a result things at work are moving slower than usual.
I am making sure to stay on top of filling orders (I've enlisted the help of my parents for this as well) but I felt it was only fair to post some warning that things are moving a little bit slower than usual right now. I'm hopeful it's not enough to be noticeable, but I wanted to say something just in case.
Recovery is a slow process, but I'm hoping to be back to my normal self and routine here before too long.

That's all for now :P

Considering selling my Miltank suit - anyone interested?
Posted 11 years agoDue to some unexpected financial circumstances I am heavily considering selling my Miltank fursuit for some extra cash. I know in the past several people have expressed interest in purchasing this suit, so I'm just trying to gauge interest right now. Also trying to determine if it would be better to put her up for auction or just sell her outright to someone.
The suit is still in pretty good condition - I only wore her on a couple of occasions. Here's some pictures if anyone is interested: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/8024777/
She is 2 years old, but again, hardly worn. Made to fit me (so a person who is 5'3 and 260 lbs), but can easily fit someone who is slimmer/taller. If you want to keep the chubby look you can always use padding. Feet are US womens size 9, but I'm pretty sure I used slippers, so they can probably accommodate a size or two larger or smaller. Vision is decent, ventilation is excellent.
Anyways, if anybody is interested or has any questions, feel free to note me or email me (wolfeh@wolfehworks.com). :) If I get super a lot of interest I will probably put her up on FurBuy.

Updates - Moving again, conventions, charcoal fur!
Posted 11 years agoTime for another update journal!
First off, I am moving again in about 3 weeks. Not far, just across the street basically - not even to a different apartment complex, just a bigger apartment. I wanted to move into a 2BR apartment to begin with, but I wanted to make sure I could afford a 1BR before I sprung for a 2. I've been feeling pretty financially sound so far, and I know it's going to be at least another couple years before I look at buying anything, so I'm just going to go ahead and transfer to a larger place so I wont have to move again for a couple years. The rent difference isn't really that much, and I think it'd be worth it to have the extra room + loft. This new apartment is almost twice as large as the one I'm living in now, so I'm pretty excited! Having the extra room also will open up the possibility of an eventual roommate, which I think I might like to have since I've discovered living by myself is very lonely. :X
Tentatively looking at using the spare bedroom in the new apartment as a sewing room, so I may be able to start offering more commissions again. Having all my sewing stuff over at the workshop is nice and all, but usually inspiration to do projects strikes at night and I don't really feel very inclined to drive 30 minutes each way back to the workshop just to sew.
On that note, so far I am not at all regretting my decision to quit school. I've been so much less stressed and have been able to spend more time on things I enjoy, including the business, and I have been able to travel a lot more. I know I've been posting about going through a struggle (which is very much still happening), but that is totally unrelated to going full time on the business stuff.
Also, recently got confirmed for a few more conventions for this year. I have booked and paid for dealer's tables at FA:U and Furpocalypse (Formerly known as FurFright), so I'll be at both of those dealing as Faux Paw Fashions. All of these are pretty far out still, but just thought I'd say that I was accepted for these.
Another update, this time regarding FursuitSupplies - currently working with a new fur supplier (the one that supplies the white flokati shag on the website, if you've seen that) to make a charcoal gray 4" pile MM-fox style fur. This will be a custom run, but this company is a lot more flexible than others in that they won't make me take all 300 yards at one time. This means I won't have to do preorders, and I will be able to offer this fur a lot faster than past custom runs if it ends up looking good. :) I know a lot of folks are seeking charcoal gray fur, so this is very exciting! Will post more info on this when I have it.

Last minute trip to MCFC
Posted 11 years agoDue to some pretty rough stuff happening recently, I decided to book a last minute trip to Motor City Fur Con this weekend to help clear my head and maybe take my mind off of some things. Not going to be dealing or anything, just hoping to use this as a chance to let my hair down and have some fun. :)
Will be hanging out/rooming with
doctoralgebra and his friends. If you will be there also, maybe we can hang out. :) I'm bringing my Isabelle fursuit (basically the FS.com mascot) so I'll probably wear her around a bit.
I'm not leaving until tomorrow afternoon and I'm coming back Sunday night so there shouldn't really be any delays in shipments while I am gone. Probably won't have a lot of chances to answer emails while I am gone though.
Anyway, hope to see you there if you're going!

Seeking semi-realistic foam canine fursuit head base!
Posted 11 years agoYep! I need to make a new head for
static418 and he's told me that he'd like something a bit more realistic. Realism is not really my strong suit, so I'd like to have someone else make the head base for this if possible. :)
Basically just looking for a semi-realistic canine/wolf head base, preferably one that would work with acrylic/resin eyes. The expression needs to not be super goofy - something more serious would be preferable. I can draw sort of what I mean if it would help.
Also, it really needs to be foam because I am very intimidated by working with a resin base for some reason :p Budget is somewhere between $50 and $150. Can be a commission or just something you have already if you've got something that meets these requirements.
If anyone would be up for this, please comment with examples and pricing!

What I've been up to and upcoming things
Posted 11 years agoIt's been a while since I posted an actual update journal - regrettably I have been dealing with some rather serious and dark personal stuff which has been seriously distracting me and resulting in decreased productivity for the last couple of months. I won't go into too much detail; all I'll say is that it's bad, and I am not sure when it will be better. Right now I am just doing my best to be optimistic and power through it.
The good news is that while I haven't been making much progress on new stuff, I have been at least able to keep up with the existing stuff. I have some cons and things coming up that I am getting ready for. This weekend I am heading to Los Angeles for a textile show, where hopefully I can meet with my existing fur suppliers and possibly meet some new ones. That should be exciting. :) This may mean that Fursuit Supplies will have new fabrics soon, depending on who I meet there and if my suppliers have any new products to speak of.
Immediately after I get back from that, I'll be off to Baltimore for Fur The 'More. I am dealing there, so if you're going, look for my tables. :) I'll be rooming with
thatlldosammy and one of her friends. Should be pretty fun.
The week after that, I'll be at FWA. I have 3 dealer tables for that one, so again, if you'll be there, come by and see me.
Although I'll be away quite a lot this month, I have found some trustworthy people to continue processing FS.com orders for me while I am gone. So if you want to order this month, don't worry, things will still be getting shipped out in a timely manner. :)

Great Lakes Fur Con!
Posted 11 years agoHey guys!
If you will be at Great Lakes Fur Con next weekend, I have a booth there for Faux Paw Fashions (http://www.fauxpawfashions.com/)! I won't actually be attending the con (too far away, sadly), but my awesome friend
doctoralgebra will be running the booth for me. :)
If you are going to be in need of very reasonably priced paws, ears, tails, LED collars, or balaclavas at GLFC, be sure to check it out! :D
If you won't be there, fear not! I have a very jam-packed con schedule for the rest of 2014. Going to be doing 3 cons in March alone, and if GLFC goes well,
doctoralgebra will be helping me with running booths at other midwest cons in the future. :)

Silver MM Fox Faux Fur Preorder form is live!

Silver MM Fox Faux Fur Remake? :O
Posted 11 years agoHey guys!
It has recently come to my attention that a LOT of people want to see the silver MM fox faux fur remade. I'd be happy to organize a preorder of this stuff again if you guys would be interested. It would be the same deal as last time - a custom order of fur requires 300 yards of quantity, so I'd buy 100 yards of it myself, with everyone else collectively preordering 200 yards of it. This way there would be a supply of this stuff available for 8-9 months if it sells on my site at the same pace as before. Preorder price would be $20/yd before shipping (A discount of $7.99 when compared to the retail rate), and no payment would be due until the preorder goal has been reached. Shipping charges would not be due until the fur actually comes in and is ready to ship. I spoke with MM about it already and they said they would be able to produce the same style with the same lead time of 4-6 weeks.
The fur in question: http://fursuitsupplies.com/index.ph.....product_id=125
Would anyone be interested in this? If so, I'll set up a google docs form and we can get going with this. :)

Finished moving in/considering opening commissions soon!
Posted 11 years agoI am finally moved into my new apartment! It's a pretty nice place, actually - ended up being just enough space for me. :) I've got it all decorated, with lots of faux fur accents. :P Now that that's all done, I can start settling into my new routine. Planning to be packing Fursuit Supplies orders more or less every weekday now (with some exceptions for travel, etc), which should be an improvement over what was happening while I was in school. Also hoping with some of this new found time on my hands, I can start working on new products and improving the business overall.
Also, since I won't be in class or doing school at all now, I'll have a lot more time to work on stuff in general. That being the case, I am seriously considering reopening for commissions after about 9 months of being closed. Probably not full fursuits or heads, but maybe parts (handpaws, tails, hats, etc). Would anyone be interested in me reopening commissions? Prices and examples can be seen here: http://www.wolfehworks.com/
Anyways, very excited about all these positive changes! 2014 is off to a great start :D

Personal updates/Interest in a furry crafter chat room?
Posted 11 years agoMade a lot of progress regarding the journal I posted a couple of weeks ago. Just finished up with finals - I'm pretty sure I passed all my classes, though I am a bit worried about Calculus. I just finished moving out of my dorm room yesterday. I'm pretty much completely finished with college now for at least one semester.
I've settled on an apartment to move in to, and submitted an application last week. I am glad to say that I was approved! I was kind of surprised, to be honest, since I have so little credit history and I had to prove my income as a self-employed person. Thankfully I was accepted with no conditions whatsoever. Tentatively moving in at the beginning of the year. :) Pretty excited! It's a little small at 750 sq feet, but it's only going to be me, so it should be plenty of space. Certainly more space than I had in my dorm :P
As for the other portion of the title of this journal, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in some kind of a furry crafter chat room, on DA or Tinychat or Skype or something? I'm thinking something online could be a good first step to restarting my social life, and I used to run a couple of active DA chats in the past (they are now long dead, lol). I've also been kind of interested in meeting some other crafty people in the fandom. If this idea has already been done, could someone point me in the direction of where that is happening? If not, would anyone be interested?
Big Changes (non-business stuff)
Posted 12 years agoCurrently going through some pretty big changes in my life. I've made several important decisions recently, which I am stuck with, for better or for worse.
With how badly school has been going, I have decided to withdraw. I am not sure if it will be permanent, but I am taking at least one semester off. Trying to do school at the same time as growing FursuitSupplies was a mistake, and has resulted in me neglecting myself and my social life. I haven't had much time to relax between the two, making it increasingly obvious that I need to pick one and go with it.
I am planning to take this time to focus primarily on my business. I feel like I can get a lot more done, and hopefully I will be a lot happier if I can do business without having to worry about when homework is due and when I need to be in class. I am planning on doing shipments every business day (M-F) as soon as the semester ends instead of the current schedule of Tuesdays and Fridays, and I should have more time to work on product development and customer service as well. I'll also be able to deal at more conventions with no Friday or Monday classes to worry about.
I'm also going to try and take some of the time where I won't be in class to work on rebuilding my social life and to work on my anxiety issues. Over the last few years, with being so busy (social anxiety didn't help), I allowed most of my real-life friends to fade away and didn't make time to find new ones.
I will be moving into an apartment in the next month or two - I feel like I won't get much done if I live at home, and the added expense of an apartment will be extra motivation to be working. Not to mention it will be really nice to have my own space, and a place I can invite people over to once I have some local friends. :)
Here's hoping that things will be improving for me soon, and that I haven't made a huge mistake. Worst case scenario, I will go back to school for the Fall 2014 semester.

Anyone going to MFF in need of some storage shelves?
Posted 12 years agoHi people!
Having a slight dilemma with MFF logistics - I need to have some shelves for my table display, but shipping the ones I currently have and then sending them back isn't very economical (we're flying to the con this year, and these shelves are rather large). I also won't have access to a car at the con so I can't pick any up once I get there either.
I was considering ordering some from Amazon and sending them directly to the hotel as an alternative. I won't really have a great way of getting them home, however, so I was just wanting to see if anyone going to the con who lives close to the con would be interested in taking home some plastic storage shelves. I'll be paying $30/set and will be ordering 4 of them, but would be happy to let them go at the con for $15 or so.
The shelves in question: http://www.amazon.com/Plano-Molding.....+plastic+plano
I may possibly do 2 of these instead of the 4 shelves: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0.....A2L77EE7U53NWQ
In either case, I'd be selling them all off at the end of the con for about $15-$20 each.
Basically how it would work is you could pay me any time at the con (or ahead of time, if you prefer), and you can pick the shelves up close to when the dealer's room closes on Sunday.
Please note me or comment if interested!

Soul Searching
Posted 12 years agoWarning! This is a long journal with a serious (somewhat negative) subject matter. I just wrote out my thoughts on my current situation to try and get them sorted out on paper. It helps me organize my thoughts when I do this.
If you don't want to read this, please click the back button. :)
I have been in college for almost a semester now. I went in uncertain that I would like it - I don't know that I would have even gone without pressure from my parents and fears of what would happen without a college degree under my belt.
I thought maybe since I would not be in class as much as I was in high school, it would be no problem to work on my businesses and do school at the same time. However, I am finding that this is not the case. October especially, though it may have just been an unusual influx of orders due to Halloween, was really a struggle. Right now it feels like everything I am doing is, to put it bluntly, half-assed. I am not fully invested in anything I am doing, and I am spreading myself far too thin. Between class, work, and trying to hold on to something resembling a social life, I just don't feel like I can manage it all. I think I have reached a crossroads where I need to decide what is important to me.
I will be honest, I am not enjoying college so far. The classes feel disturbingly like high school, with an even more strict attendance policy. I haven't made any friends on campus; I am not sure if this is just because I haven't had the time to invest in forming friendships, or because of my social anxiety, or both. I can't say that all schools would be like this, but I don't feel any special connection with the school. I also have been too tired from and busy with other things to really invest myself into my classes, settling for C's and D's, still stuck in the mentality of the only thing mattering being the degree at the end. Taking a step back, that doesn't actually make any sense. I don't think I was planning to get a job with whatever company at the end of my college career, and the whole reason for me even being there was for the knowledge. What I am doing now feels like a waste of time and money.
I think, at this point, the only thing keeping me here is that I am scared of what will happen to me without a degree. I am so afraid of that because it has been ingrained into my mind since I was very young that you have to have one or else you'll work at McDonald's for the rest of your life, or worse.
Looking at my finances, though, my income has been pretty steady with an upward trend over the last several months. Calculating my living expenses and business expenses and how much would be left on average after that yields promising results. Not a life of luxury, by any means, but enough. I feel like it would be feasible for me to be self-supporting, but again, I am scared. I don't know what will happen if I can't do it. These are things I need to figure out, and soon. I am needing to do some serious soul searching, as I am wasting far too much energy on this issue and need to decide one way or another what I am going to do.
As a side note, it's interesting how many parallels I noticed in this journal and the one I wrote back in March or April when I was trying to decide if I should even go to college in the first place. Evidently I felt about the same then as I do now, almost word for word in some instances. Just some more things for me to consider.

Rust Luxury Fox Faux Fur preorder form is live!
Posted 12 years agoCalled the supplier and got the missing info, so now I am ready to start taking preorders for this fur. No payment is required at this time, and will not be required until the goal of 200 yards worth of commitments is reached. Based on the silver fox fur run (took about 5 weeks to gather enough interest, but we also had the slight bump in the road of the fur not being the exact color I had thought), I'd estimate that it will take at least 3 weeks for this to happen.
Here is the form, lots of details can be found here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1wc.....milo4/viewform
Preorder price per yard: $20 ($7 off retail)
Turnaround time: 6-8 weeks once order is placed with manufacturer
Image of fur: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hg9bqm0vu.....024_194707.jpg
Length of fur: 1.5", denser than MM fox and DF, mix of matte undercoat and shiny guard hairs
Info copied from the form:
Have any questions or want to see a sample of this type of fur? Email me at wolfeh@fursuitsupplies.com. I am happy to provide very small samples for color along with larger samples of readily available colors of this fur so that you can see the texture/style/length for $1 (you will receive both a small piece of the rust and a 3x3" sample of black or white luxury fox fur).
How this works:
1. Interested people fill out this form for how many yards they would like to commit to preorder. No payment is required at this time, and payment will not be requested unless the goal is reached.
2. Once the goal of 200 yards of preorder commitments is reached, everyone on the list will be notified. I will request that you confirm your PayPal email address, and invoices will be sent out. These invoices will be for the FUR ONLY, and will not include shipping charges. All invoices must be paid for before the order can be placed with the manufacturer.
3. Once all 200 yards are paid for, the order will be submitted to the manufacturer. At this time, nothing will happen for 6-8 weeks while the fur is manufactured.
4. After 6-8 weeks, the fur will be shipped from the manufacturer to our warehouse. All customers will be notified, asked to confirm their mailing addresses, and shipping invoices will be sent out.
5. After your shipping is paid for, your specific order will be mailed out to you. :)
By filling out the form, you commit to pay for the amount of fur requested. If you need to cancel your request at any time, please email me at wolfeh@fursuitsupplies.com.

Misc updates - Custom rust fur, weight loss, cons, & more
Posted 12 years agoHaven't written a journal update in a few weeks, so I figured I would write one while I had a minute to do so.
First off, some sort of exciting news for
fursuitsupplies.com - I had asked my supplier to investigate production of a custom rust faux fur in their luxury fox style (very luxurious and realistic fur, better than MM fox in my opinion, although it is shorter) a while back. I thought that they forgot about it, but a couple of days ago I received a sample in the mail and it is perfect. More than likely I will be looking to organize a custom run of this stuff similar to the custom run of the silver fur we did about a year ago. More details on that are forthcoming - unfortunately my supplier didn't really include any pricing, minimum qty, or turnaround time info with the sample. Here's a pic of the sample for anyone who is curious: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hg9bqm0vu.....024_194707.jpg
Most likely the pricing on that will be similar to the MM silver custom run preorders, if not a little bit less. Will post details when I am ready to start accepting preorders.
Secondly, in personal news, thanks to lots of love and support from my mate,
static418, I have been successfully losing weight for the last month or so. I haven't been able to do dieting for that long ever in the past, so this is some significant progress. I have lost almost 15 lbs already, down from 260-ish to 246-ish. :3 I'm hoping I can stick with it and get down to a more healthy size!
Lastly, I'll be dealing at Nekocon in Hampton Roads, VA next weekend if anyone is planning to be there! I'll probably primarily be there during the day for dealer room stuff - we're not staying on-site this time. Will be dealing as Faux Paw Fashions and selling lots of costume stuff. :3
I think that's it for now! Now it is time to work on packing Fursuit Supplies orders :P

Posted 12 years agoNCSU furries? / life updates
Posted 12 years agoBeen a while since my last post! I've been extremely busy with starting up at school, moving in to the workshop, selling at Furlaxation, and more.
With how busy I have been, I slightly ended up neglecting trying to develop a social life here on campus in the first few weeks. Now that things are beginning to calm down (slightly), are there any furs at NCSU looking for someone to hang out with? I'd really love the chance to meet some people - I'm very very shy at first, but if you get to know me I'll stop being that way.
Updates on my life:
Business - We've more or less moved everything over to the new workspace. I've been packing and shipping orders out of it for the last couple of weeks, and I must say, it is SO MUCH BETTER than shipping out of the small extra room at my house. We're still trying to get organized, though.
Lots of furs on FS.com are unfortunately currently out of stock; been having some issues with our supplier recently. I reordered ~12 rolls from them almost 3 weeks ago and they just shipped yesterday. Please bear with me if you are waiting to be able to order fur! We're also currently working on implementing some new infrastructure that should make out of stock issues and availability issues less frequent.
Personal - College is way more hectic than I would have guessed. So far it's really been a struggle trying to manage my business, college, and personal stuff simultaneously. What I was afraid of happening is pretty much what happened - the expectations at college are far more significant than they were in high school. Even though there is less time in class, I feel like more of my time is dominated by school than it was before. Hoping things will get better as I get into more classes directly related to my major, which hopefully will be enjoyable. (Calculus and chemistry, not fun!) I'm still trying to figure out how to make this work!
Also, I am somewhat trying to lose weight again. I haven't had any success sticking with anything in the past; we'll see how well it goes this time around.
