Posted 8 years agoWith everything crazy going on, I'm so excited to be getting these planned ahead of time this year. I'm already registered for all of these and our sleeping arrangements have already been set, too: one staying at home, one in a tent, one in a hotel XD At GLFC, I'll actually be a dealer and the other two I'm hoping to get space in Artists Alley. I hope to see lots of fuzz faces there!!

Posted 9 years agoI was perusing my favorites and realized that a bunch of them were deleted by the original poster! I ended up getting rid of easily 100 pictures from my list of favorites because they just didn't exist anymore.... Very sad indeed. When I favorite a picture, its because I like it so much that I'd hang it on my wall. And when its gone... I don't even know what all is missing :(
Hotel Booking Adventure
Posted 9 years agoSomehow I ended up coordinating our group's preparation for Anthrocon, including budgeting, hotel, and transportation. I don't mind; I really like planning events and things like that. BUT, my cat almost made things very difficult.
Our cat can be a jerk sometimes. He's fluffy and adorable and lovable, but a jerk. He has a habit of climbing on the desk in our bedroom and trying to drink out of our cups. On this particular day (yesterday), I was sitting on the bed trying to get a room booked in a specific hotel (its our regular and the only one with a room big enough to fit all of us - 7!). I was almost done; I had already inputted our names and the payment information when... *SPLASH* My nearly full cup of apple juice was spilled all over the floor and our little heater and phone chargers. The cat goes running away, I go running to clean it up, and by the time I'm done, the webpage had timed out.
Well, it sucked but I figured that I could just start over again. So I tried again and NOPE. Apparently it was the last one and was no longer available. Mildly panicking, I message the group that there might be a big issue and frantically find the phone number for the hotel, hoping that maybe it was being held since I had gotten so far (literally seconds from pressing submit) and they could help.
So I call the lady and she was nice, but there was nothing she could do if I hadn't submitted it. She was offering other days/times, other hotels in the area, but nothing would work for us. Then, right before we were going to give up, she refreshes her page, and there it was! The exact room type that I had tried to get for the exact days! I jumped onto the website (so I could get the convention rate) and booked it immediately.
And thats the story of my adventure trying to get a hotel room for AC this year.

Posted 9 years agoSpent half the night in the bathroom, half the night trying so sleep (mostly on the floor). Super dehydrated and malnourished, but the dozen steps to the kitchen are torture. Blarg.

Mental Breakdowns Imminent
Posted 9 years agoNow, I'm very much not normally one to post a journal like this, or even to talk about this with people, but I need a chance to rant/vent/panic/hopefully get some support/advice.
Some back story: I graduated high school in 2010 with a 3.73 - without really trying. I showed up to class each day, doodled some notes, half-assed my homework, rarely studied. I took four AP classes and got 4s on all of those tests (best possible is 5, for those unaware). I was the "smart one" in our group and in the "college prep" track and had no issues whatsoever.
Fast forward to my fifth year of college: I'm studying my ass off day in and day out (on top of working two jobs because I am no longer eligible for student loans, so I'm paying everything out of pocket) and barely passing, usually only passing because of a curve given at the end of the semester. I still have a year or two to go, because I've only been able to go part time due to time, finances, and failing classes. I have tried every different study method that I can think of/find on the internet and nothing seems to help, including, but not limited to:
*hand writing notes in a notebook
*hand writing notes on a table
*typing notes on the computer
*taking notes in class
*taking notes from lecture recordings at a later time
*taking notes from the book
*taking notes from videos on the internet (especially Khan Academy)
*using notecards/flashcards
*using outlines
*using lists
*using diagrams (seriously, a whole wall in our living room has been taken over by a 6ft x 10ft map of organic chemistry reactions)
*using projects
The problem isn't that I don't understand the material. The vast majority of the time, I understand the concepts with no issues. The problem comes in when I have to rote memorize vast amounts of details. It just doesn't stick. I can sit and study for hours and hours and I just cant seem to keep up with the vast amount of information that we're required to remember.
On top of that, I constantly feel guilty if I'm not actively studying. In my head, I could do just fine in school if I just studied more. But its just not working that way. For example, the first exam in my chemistry class this semester, I didn't study too much but still got a 60%. Second exam, I studied all the time and still only got a 64%. I'm probably studying "the wrong way" but I've tried everything...
All of the stress behind trying to work and do well in school and still enjoy life a little has been taking a toll on my mental health. For the past several years, I've felt like I'm half a step away from a mental breakdown 24/7, and around exams/finals or other stressful times, I'm less than that away. My boyfriend has been incredibly supportive, but there's only so much he can do.
I'm honestly considering taking this next semester off. Not completely tho; I wouldn't be enrolled in class, but I'd still be studying on my own, at my own pace. But I want to be done with school already. I've been in school constantly for the past (almost) 20 years (some of univeristy has been year round, too). We're trying to wait to get married until I'm done. I want to get a "big girl" job so that I can start pulling my own weight with the bills (I pay my part based on income proportion). The boyfriend wants to go back to school, but he can't until I'm done and have that big girl job. So there's a big push for me to finish ASAP.
I just don't know what to do...
tl:dr University is kicking my ass and I'm gonna lose it.

[PERSONAL 11/11] Still Alive... and updates
Posted 10 years agoYep, not dead. Just busy enough that sometimes I wish I was just so that I could get some rest. Sorry I haven't been very active here.
However, I will be going to Midwest Fur Fest this year! I missed out last year due to the Christmas show with the company with which I dance/act, but this year the show is a week earlier so I can make it! So excited to go again. I don't think I'll be trying for Artists Alley this time, but I am planning on a making a discount available for all collar/badge pick-ups at MFF, so keep an eye out for that!
Also, I've recently acquired Photoshop, so I'm planning on updating ALL of the badges that I currently have available. I used to use this online knock-off of Photoshop, which was awful. But everything is in that file format, so I have to redo them to make them PS compatible. So, those will be up....eventually.
I've cleaned out a lot of my old journals, just because I don't like having a cluttered list. So if you're looking for something old; its probably not there anymore...
Life's been pretty good overall. Very busy, but its all a part of the adventure. We've been reminding ourselves that its all temporary and will be worth it in the long run :)

They're so close to being done tho!! they're both foamed, furred, and the sole is about half done. So after about a foot and a half of foam, a foot and a half of fur, probably about 50 hot glue sticks, and two or three cans of plastidip, I'll have feets!!!

[FURSUIT] JUST MY LUCK
Posted 10 years agoI was going to order my new fur last night, but decided to wait until we re-did my DTD to make sure that we're getting exactly how much we need of each color. BUT, lo and behold, when I checked on it this morning. Its sold out!! I can't find the right color ANYWHERE else on the internets :( Idk what I'm gonna do :(

[CON COMMENTARY] MCFC 2015 Day 2 and 3
Posted 10 years agoSaturday and Sunday were basically the same as Friday: wake up too early, sit in Artist's Alley all day, then have a bunch of fun at night :)
Spent a little time in the pool and hot tub (mainly to minimize the knee pain), had some really good chicken fajitas at On The Border (the restaurant right next door), got to watch Uncle Kage and Alkali get too drunk, and just enjoyed the shinanigans with new people too :) I didn't get to dance as much at the rave as I wanted, as I have knee problems that occasionally act up, but it was still fun.
However, the programming itself a little on the lame side, which is why i didn't mind spending three days upstairs in the artist's alley. There were a lot of stretches with nothing going on or very very specific (i.e. one was all about bunnies... o.O)
Next year, we're gonna go again anyway. Almost definitely going to register as a sponsor and considering getting a table in dealers den. Idk if it'll be worth it, but I have a year to decide.
Now its just time to start getting ready for AnthroCon in July!!!

Posted 13 years agoI randomly feel that I should explain the meaning behind "Blaez Rhoswen"
To start off with my explanation, I have to give a bit of back story. I am very particular when I chose names for anything. It took me about a year after discovering I was a furry that I chose the name "Blaez" for my fursona. Back then, I wasn't a fox; I was a red wolf. So, I had spent hours and hours pouring over dozens of different websites, looking for the perfect name; one that described both me and my personality, but still sounded the way that I wanted it to. I knew as soon as I discovered "Blaez" that it was the name for me. Its an Old Celtic name that means "wolf", so that was an obvious fit. Keeping that in mind, I continued looking for a last name. Again, I found another Old Celtic name that fit perfectly: "Rhoswen". It means "the white rose". The first thing that I thought of after reading that was about how a rose blooms and how it is very similar to the way that the moon blooms as it waxes, immediately reminding me of the werewolf side of me.
Putting the name together, "Blaez Rhoswen", sounds very elegant as it is, but the when I combined the meanings, I knew that's what I wanted my name to be. When put together, it directly means "The Wolf of the White Rose". ^-,-^
