Well that seals the deal. I was already worried by the politics and culture of the site like I said in my initial journal, but now it's a definitive and resounding NO! I'm never gonna make an itch.io account.

Since making that journal I rediscovered a few platforms that could be a good fit. First there's Gumroad, Gumroad infamously hosts a gladiator game that got banned from steam because its creator is a mega MAGA weirdo who repeatedly stirred the pot. It is also home to the grotesque Steve mod that got banned from most other modding platforms for being too freaky. Finally there are many nsfw creators on there. This probably ain't a good place to be discovered, but it's far more trustworthy than Steam and Itch.io and it's not just for games you can sell other goods on it. Nutaku is a gaming platform, but it's explicitly for outright pornographic games, I'm not sure weird cartoon tropes (like inflation, force feeding, flattening, farting yada yada) count as porn given how these cartoon tropes also show up on tv shows for children. Finally there's weight gaming, but I don't plan on focusing on weight gain or fat characters in particular so uh awkward. Mediafire is still an option I reckon. Subscribe is a good optionif I wanted to use a subscription service, but one-time payments like on steam is what I really wanna do.

I didn't look too much into it because I thought this was a group of anti-furs mass reporting steam to payment processors because I thought this had mostly affected furry and queer adult games by claiming it's zoophilia, but turns out my assumption was wrong. Kazeolion was a former artist on furaffinity who set their account to be pending deletion after the suicide of Mikayla Raines, an autistic girl with bipolar disorder who ran a ranch for foxes. They were active on a snark subreddit which is to kiwifarms what soft edgy (or whatever gen alphas call it) to edgy, it a forum that condones harassment just like kiwifarms, but because it tries to stick to sarcasm and irony they dont get moderated.

This forum, that they were apart of, directly launched a harassment campaign against that girl and you wanna know the worst part? They were on the same side of the arggument as kiwifarms because yes kiwifarms was also harassing and spreading rumors about that woman.

You know what the community did? First they bullied him and after that they banned him from events and and the bullying continued until he killed himself. In short when he clapped back at leffen for the bullying he was getting he got permanently banned while other bans for things that are way worse were usually 2 weeks long at best and 3 months long at worst, then other folks jumped on the opportunity to bully him more including gender diverse people like Julia p nyc and Greg turbo. Toby Fox literally has the same disability, imagine if those people went after him if he dared playing games a certain way.

There was also that situation where Xkeeper scolded and treated another editor like shit when they raised some concerns and that editor happens to be trans to make things worse, but anyhoo Xkeeper instead of handling this problem like an adult resorted to ad-hominems attacks and became unreasonable to the point where they blocked all crawlers from accessing tcrf. Literally only last week I saw a transwoman being very sassy and downright mean to somebody on steam. Not even because that other person was transphobic either, they just said something about a game that the transwoman didn't like. Well I was gonna stop it here, but i think i'm at least gonna mention their steam surname because I doubt that would trace back to their real identity and subject them to harassment, at worst they get blocked on steam by like the 5 or so folks who saw my journal. I'm getting so tired of artists and sites who destroy artworks. I only started becaming interested in archivism ever since an nsfw artist on google plus, who was posting to google plus primarily, I think their name was protagonart iirc. All their 1000+ posts gone in the blink of an eye when that forsaken website got shut down and rebranded for businesses.

It's not just websites either, it's also artists deleting their old art or moving to another accont and deleting their old one becuase they think their old art don't represent them now. You ain't working on a portfolio on furaffinity of all places, quit this bullshit thinking!

There are even some drawings without the cat oc that got lost in the melee, there was a drawing of kitty pooka as a reindeer that to my knowledge has never been reposted to furaffinity ever again and while the first part got caught by furarchiver.net (another reason why not to bother and just not be stupid because anything you post to the internet could be out there forever), the second part is now only downloadable form his x account and it compresses images badly.

Really love when artists don't have a shred of respect for their work, I don't care if you think what I draw is cringe, brainort or taboo none of it will willingly be deleted from my gallery, at best it may be improved or edited to comply with the site's guideline (I had an abdl drawing I edited because I was afraid it could get me banned, this was a few years ago), but any drawing you see in my gallery stays in my gallery I can guarantee that!

Even if I don't get many faves on my art I'm happy to have it being seen, the way that works I reckon is whenever the thumbnail gets loaded it counts as a view and the person seeing my piece can click on it to see it in full. So it's a surprise that my impressions went from 100-200 views per piece and with sometimes a comment or a few favorites down to only 30 views and no comments or favorites on my last 2 pieces. Does that mean only 30 people ever saw them on the homepage?

I might have to start posting elsewhere. I don't trust Pixiv very much because it probably runs on an algorithm like deviantart and my account could get shadowbbaned or Inkbunny which is even less active than furaffinity. Well, still more active than weasyl and buzzly at least.

I'll continue to use furaffinity and advertise my games from there since many other folks do it too.

That said I still need to find somewhere to host my games, so my fans can easily find them and download them. I first thought of gamejolt and itch.io, but gamejolt is exactly like paypal, they hate the adult space. Itch.io is friendly toward furries and many of my favorite artists use it to host their games or their comics. However I don't fully trust them because of their politics , so I'm not sure I wanna use their platform. I might have to, but they're option B for the moment.

There's also the old-fashioned way, hosted on its own website or mediafire. I remember downloading many games from mediafire during the golden days of the internet, but there's a catch! mediafire can still delete your stuff and I don't know how likely it is for furry or adult content to get yanked off their platform. Maybe I'm overprudent (that's not a word, I know), but I'll give it a serious thought before signing up. That'd be my option A if there's no alternative made for furries and adults.

Finally there's patreon and I've only thought of it while typing this, but no that ain't ever gonna happen, fuck patreon.

It is a top-down adventure game zeldalike with castlevania elements like very basic platformer and the general vibe, castlevania was the first thing I thought of when I thought of this game and it even fooled me into thinking it was a metroidvania.

A new game coming out from a Kickstarter fundraiser. Unfortunately it's too late to donate, but I'm sure the devs like your support. It is a metroidvania with permanent upgrade, heavy story focus and many foes to battle.

Review : From the demo, a fun Metroidvania that lasted well over an hour. You fight enemies, bosses and there are platforming challenges. You know the drill if you play Hollow Knight. The gameplay feels good too.

A short and free rpg with an anthro mouse protagonist and crafting mechanics, has horror elements and a grisly soundtrack. It is not on steam, but you can find it on itch.io and related platforms. Luna's heart is its prequel or prototype apparently.

Review : The game could use some balance patches, only 1 class in the whole game matters and it's the starting class with which you can heal. The game was fun in a sort of exploration and discovery kind of way, but the battles are boring.

From the gameplay demonstrations it's easy to guess this game will be a DOOM or Wolfenstein clone. There will be references to past cartoons like Popeye and common cartoon tropes. The game will have half-life environmental puzzle elements in it like the falling piano in the trailers.

A cute pixel-artsy jrpg with small rodents. You play as a mouse and must save Rodentia. The bosses you battle are large predators like a house cat or more strangely a live octopus! The game plays exactly like you'd expect, it's a turn per turn rpg, nothing fancy like undertale.

You play as a mutant aquatic mouse in this cozy 3D platformer. The game is similar in spirit to super Mario Sunshine.

Review : A very calming, chill and casual game with nothing to bother me and with cute critters in it. I love thew hedgehogs as much as I love the mouse protagonist. A definite recommendation from me, one of my favorite games on the list so far. The only downside is it was a tad bit laggy for me, but most of the time it ran fine.

Despite the score, the game has a large number of folks complaining over its bugs. Some are gamebreaking and others corrupt your save files according to many complaints on the steam forums alone. To this day the forum still has at least 1 post complaining about the game on the fist page and most newsposts has at least 1 player shitting on the game. This is so bad that at its peak the game had only aggressively negative comments if not rude. Most surprising is the score, before doing more research I assumed it was a loud minority, but some players actually gave the game "pity recommendations". Basically listing only negatives, but saying they still supported the game.

Review : For the record I'm on unix with wine as the windows compatibility layer hooked to steam if a game ain't available for my os. I don't know if it matters all that much, but when I tried playing the game for the first time I got a blackscreen. It is the only game made with unity that did this to me. I could have probably fixed the problem and actually play the game, but after seeing some comments about the game I just refunded the game while I still could. I didn't get to play, so I won't comment on the game

A metroidvania, the third on this list. You fight enemies, you fight bosses, it is fast-paced and speed-oriented. It has a heavy focus on storytelling especially the premise, you and your crew was TF'd into big rats by a pirate witch.

Review : I played the demo for 5 minutes, but got bored due to the pace it was moving at and uninstalled it. The game took somewhat long to load a room (between 1 to 2 seconds each), it wasn't as bad as Sonic 06, but it was noticeable. I dunno if it's supposed to happen or not.

Anything else is trash based on personal experience. From search results I got a generic whiteboard which really ain't a drawing tool. It's called Canva if you're really curious, but it's not meant for art. Everything else is javascript adverts ram leak hell with a premium subscription or forced login to download your image apps. Too many of these are predatory and not worth your time. The others are straight-up just paid apps like photoshop. I'm not a big fan, but I still understand why anyone would use them. My directory only includes free tools.

Cat Burglar: A Tail of Purrsuit
A free stealth game about a cat that steals. Who wouldve seen it coming? In this game you raid a tower. The game is split into many levels that can only be completed by getting keys and opening a large door with locks on it.

Review : The gameplay is very similar to Sly Cooper or Metal Gear where you have to not get spotted by anyone, but there's is less of an action element in this game than the other 2 games. The game is also cute and the gameplay is good. Since the game is free you should absolutly give it a try, even if you might not like it!

Stars In The Trash
A classic animated video game with a feral talking cat in it and it has the Disney magic all over it. It is a cozy puzzle platformer with nothing violent happening in it.

Review : I'm glad I discovered it by watching random youtube animations late at night. It's right now a demo, but I reckon the full game will be cool. The controls felt a bit stuff, but otherwise it was fine. I was slightly offput by the dialogue portrait, though. It was uncanny and looked stiff. That's something the developers can improve on.

There's a lawsuit from Bad Dragon against SinSaint for 'plagiarizing' dildo designs. If you look at the dildos made by both companies you can easily see it's a bold.faced lie, they're completely different. #Vivziepop: Creator of Helluva boss, Zoophobia, Hazbin Hotel and the music video Die Young. I am not too sure why she is controversial? All I know it has something to do with Hazbin Hotel. She is a feminist and a progressive after all, so I dunno why would anybody want her down. Update 2024, I added this bullet point when I intially wrote the journal years ago when she was canceled for no reason, but I don't support underpaying or abusing artist and will not add another bullet point for her newer drama. She desrves all the criticism as far I know.
#Foshu: Years ago, they made a drawing titled "Pedovore" and it was based on the joke that pedophiles are predators. It was made in jest, but despite that fact this artist was labeled a pedophile by proxy for, I assume, the comment section that was acting very creepy. FA admins have since deleted the drawing off FA and temp banned Foshu.
#Carpetwurm (now going by Kitwran): Because he is a Christian and he used the word "cumf*gs" to describe pervs. I am one of those cumf*gs, so I am personally hurt, but now it's all about homophobia and him being christian which is wild. #LupisVulpes: Because she is christian and because she refused service to somebody or she did a poor job at it, I don't know. i might remove her from the list if she refused service specifically because they were gay. !Update! She issued an apology on YouTube and faced false accusations of homophobia. She lost her guest of honor title at Tails and Tornadoes Fur Con.

Preface

Hello everyone, it's Wolfmanfur.

So you might be asking the following questions that I'm gonna answer immediately:

Q: Why do you rant about Deviantart?
A: Answering that question would spoil the rant.

Q: What's the thing you hate the most about Deviantart?
A: The trolls in it.

Q: How are you?
A: I'm fine.

Now, I have never wrote any rant before, so if needed you can give me some feedback, any type of constructive criticism is encouraged.
Anyway, let's start the rant shall we?

Administration on Deviantart

Let's be honest, the administration of Deviantart is both ineffective and unfair.

Why ineffective? When a troll joins Deviantart, they often stays there for a while before getting banned, sometimes they never get banned. Often people get their artworks stolen and in some circumstances stolen content will never be taken down.

Why unfair? On Deviantart there are many art thieves as I said earlier, but sometimes they'll steal your artworks and DMCA take down your original work and it happens so frequently that it's to the point where I think "Do the staff even care about doing their job properly or are they just playing a guessing game (Is it stolen or nah?)." It is also possible to mass report artworks and artists as such innocent people often get their artworks marked as mature content or their entire account banned for no reason, just because they got mass reported by assholes/trolls.

Trolls on Deviantart

There are too many trolls on Deviantart, those trolls also get banned, but come back or just never get banned.
There are 5 types of notable trolls:
1. Edgy Trolls: Your average troll, they insult you for no reason, they upload swastikas or other unfunny memes like 9/11 and are here for the sole purpose of harassing. Most of the trolls in this category gets banned within a month.
2. "Cringy" trolls: Probably the worst type of troll, especially by the fact that they NEVER GET BANNED. They could also be considered satire trolls because they act as if they had mental issues and they'll often post obscene or otherwise "cringeworthy" drawings to get attention, furthermore most of them are just there to make fun of furries/bronies/Sonic fans/FNAF fans/Undertale fans with as I said purposely bad artworks, they also act up against you and can get you banned if you say anything, this include giving out a feedback.
3: Raiders: These trolls are often there to mass report you or massively attack one single artist to the point where they have to temporary disable their account just to get rid of them. The worst about that category is that they often attack when they are properly prepared to do so which makes them rather dangerous.
4: Spammers: Like the raiders, but less prepared and they often rely on alt accounts.
5: Art stealing trolls: Like the art thieves, they steal artworks, but they don't do it because they are bad at drawing, but rather to get attention, sometimes to DMCA attack the artist they targeted. They also get banned rather quickly luckily.

Harassment inside Deviantart

When you are a beginner and don't know very well how to draw or if you draw fetish art (because you like it) you are very likely to end up being harassed by many people, including trolls and normal people who aren't trolls.
I have seen a lot of times people saying "You don't like it, then don't look at it", but has that ever worked? Humans are assholes most of the time and more we get forward, more we can see it. If they don't like something they will keep talking about it until said something they don't like gets deleted.

But it's yet not the worst things about this website and its intolerant userbase.

Harassment outside of Deviantart

You should know whenever you upload an artwork on Deviantart that the general public doesn't like, it is very likely to end up on websites such as encyclopedia dramatica or Youtube, if it ends on Youtube it will be in something called a "cringe compilation".
By pure curiosity I typed "deviantart cringe compilation" and I swear that most of the cringe compilation either had badly drawn drawings or fetish artworks and honestly I really don't understand what's the deal with beginner artists or fetish artists, as I said earlier everybody just cannot get over the fact that they could simply ignore the artists they don't like.
On Furaffinity you can block guests from viewing your gallery, so if really they want to make a cringe compilation and include your artworks they'll have to make a Furaffinity account and it's not likely happen if especially they got banned earlier.
I also heard about artists who got harassed outside of DA because of what they've posted there. An artist who uses both Deviantart and Twitter received death threats on Twitter (unfortunately cannot remember the name of the artist, but I'm willing to add more artists if you have had followed an artists that got a similar issue). What I've said can also be avoided if the artist uses Furaffinity and locks their account so guests cannot view it.

Security and Privacy

It's outstanding to see how terrible the security of Deviantart is. It even got its database leaked once like for Yahoo.
The security on Deviantart is so bad that many people lost their accounts. I don't have any example because I don't remember well, there was a Pokemon artist that was into feet that got its account hacked and used to spam Deviantart.
I also looked up "hacked accounts on deviantart" just to add more proof to my article that it's a real problem and I found multiple websites talking about it, notably Deviantart itself on their #660 FAQ.

It really doesn't seem that uncommon, but it still happens to often.
The problem is that to get into someone's account all you need is a password bruteforce tool and the username of the victim (Deviantart should only use the email address to log in) and it's really just a standalone log in form, there's not even a recaptcha which would be very effective against robots and bruteforce passwords crackers.
It also puts your privacy at risks because if you get hacked, you'll get your email address and your ip address exposed.

Some nitpicky problems about the site (honestly skip that part)

1. It looks ugly, compare Deviantart to Twitter. How long has it been since the visuals of the site have ever been updated? Other art websites do a better job with the visuals so why does the administrators of Deviantart cannot even polish their website after years?
2. The mobile app of Deviantart is awful, better not have made one at all.

My tip

Hopefully, I convinced you that it was not good either for you or anyone else to use Deviantart, my tip is that you back up all your drawings on Furaffinity and delete everything on your gallery on Deviantart and it's better if you delete your entire gallery before deactivating your account because I probably forgot to cite it, but Deviantart is unable to do a basic task like removing everything related to you from the database if you happen to close your account (I swear, it is sad).

You can also share this journal to all the artists you like who use Deviantart and insist that they use Furaffinity (Especially if they are beginners or they are into fetishes).
Deviantart was maybe good back in 2005, but it's not anymore and honestly I'm worried for all the people who use it since DA has many security holes and especially an administration that doesn't work.
Furaffinity is not perfect, but it's a lot better than Deviantart and it has arguably the most tolerant userbase on any website ever.

You can also invite non-furries to use Furaffinity since it is open to everyone. There are actually many non-furries that use Furaffinity just to enjoy the company of furries like whitecougar (https://www.furaffinity.net/user/whitecougar/) who draws primarily humans.
